Our cricket team this year is indeed very unique, in that we have some of the best bowlers, all-rounders and wicketkeepers, but not many specialist batsmen. Nevertheless, you can just feel this is the year Sylhet might do something, with hardly any dependency on the absent National and Under-19 players.

Wk: Mushfiqur Rahim, Mithun Ali, Golam Mabud

Adding to your list - Nazmul is from Habiganj, Abul is from Moulvibazar and Golam Mabud is from Sylhet. Mushfiq is from Bogra and I think Shuvashish Roy is also from Rajshahi so no not all of them are from Sylhet.

lol...ok, I might have made a mistake on that one. Will fix it.. I just thought, with my parents liking it so much, that it couldn't be any other district.

You guys like the team I got above? We seem to be a batsman short. Just like the national team. But we got the best bowling squad. If the Under-19's didn't have the WC now, we'd have creamed all the teams.Would be interesting to see how the other teams look without the national and Under-19 players.

My only concern is Why is Sylhet so crap at cricket specially when it comes to FC cricket? By having few players that have played or will be playing for national sides is not enough.

We have beautiful stadium which is not as good as SBNS,Fatullah or Chittagong but better than some districts. Sylhet also have good communication with other major cities and with in Sylhet.

We have so many positives and facilities but we dont utilise to its full potential because of our negative thinking. Some modernisation like purchase of bowling machine and better indoor practice facility for elite players from the region will make it a bit better.

Most importantly we need better organising body. We need competitive local league. If not 3-day atleast 2-day (2 innings tournament). Give the young stars taste of longer version cricket because thats the only way forward.

Yes, that is a bit disappointing. I especially do not understand how we do not have any well-known batsmen other than Rajin and Kapali. Having so many rich Sylhettis overseas, you would think the local clubs would not have problems finding donors. Outside Dhaka and Chittagong, seems like a lot of the districts in Rajshahi and Khulna region are producing good cricketers. Sylhet seems to be far behind. There has to be proper School, Thana and District Level competitions established, including 2-day matches. I honestly do not know what is there, but the lack of cricketers indicates its nothing significant.

Every new BCB big boss talks about decentralising cricket. Hope they do it before we lose the test status, khoda na khasta. The people of Sylhet deserve better cricketing infrastructure. At the moment, they are all coming from two Sylhetti schools from what I hear.

P.S: Lot of ppl seem to take their shutki very seriously, so there, I fixed it at the top:)

In Nabil, Enam and Kapali we have an "A-team" quality spin attack. In Taposh and Shvashish we have two of the better pacers outside the national team, with Rezaul being a 3rd bowler. Surely, with this bowling attack, and the very strong No.3-5, we have a great chance of making the 2nd round. Once we get there, We'll have Abul Hasan, Saikat Ali & Shaker Ahmed available in February as well. Those three will make our line-up the most balanced, and possibly the strongest, in the comp.

Kapali not being picked and Nafees and Aftab both being picked has given Sylhet's chances a tremendous boost..Barisal and Chittagong will prob be the first ones to be knocked out, with Sylhet surviving...
Here's my prediction for Barisal's Xi:

They will really miss Shahriar Nafees..Taibur is inexperienced with only 5 list-A games..they can include Sajidul Islam who averages 21 with bat and 27.5 with ball.

Each team plays all other teams once in January in Round 1, and top four play each other in Round 2. The top 2 of round two play in a 5-day final.

Time to bump this thread up...I hope we can win three games. Two against Barisal and one against Chittagong. As Isam bhai already pointed out, we have a massive disadvantage since Sylhet's local cricket competitions are non-existent and youths more interested in overseas trips.

My dream is that I will keep bumping it up till one day we have actually become a championship winner and a dominant team..hopefully in the next 3-4 years. Then I can say "who opened the thread again?" :)
