ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Teams & Groups
West Indies Team ProfileThe closest the young Caribbean side has come to winning the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup was in 2004 in Bangladesh when the side led by Dinesh Ramdin lost to Pakistan by 25 runs in the final.

Since then it has not had a tournament record to boast of, losing to Bangladesh by four wickets in the fifth place play-off semi-final in Colombo in February 2006 and being placed ninth in the 2008 event in Kuala Lumpur, after being eliminated by the eventual finalists, India and South Africa, in the group stages.

Andre Coley, the former Jamaica wicket-keeper, has been appointed as head coach for the tournament, following his success at U19 level with the Jamaica three-day and limited-over sides, and will be looking to skipper Andre Creary for inspiration on the field of play.

The West Indies prepared for the event by taking part in the President’s Cup in October 2009, alongside senior territorial teams. Although it failed to win a match the preparation was valuable and it came close to defeating Barbados, losing in the end by two wickets.

Left-handed opening batter Evin Lewis topped the batting averages for his side in that event, being the only player to pass fifty, while spinner Akeem Dewar showed promise with the ball, although the matches were hampered by bad weather.

Facing Pakistan, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea in the group stages, it will be a tough challenge to make it through to the quarter finals.

However, the tournament has a very good track record for being a first international sighting of future stars of the West Indies team. Previous events have featured Jimmy Adams, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan, so there will be plenty of fun for the spectators in trying to spot a future legend!

PLAYER PROFILE

Kraigg Brathwaite –

This highly Barbados batter, who made 73 on his first-class debut last year when aged just 16, is expected to be a huge star for his team at this tournament. He was called up to the West Indies Test squad against Bangladesh in July 2009 and was awarded a contract by the West Indies Cricket Board later in the year.

This is the scorecard between Pakistan vs West Indies where West Indies gave Pakistan a scare and a good chase!! Look at the 2 openers of theirs.....and also I would say nember 3, 4, 5 did all go on 0 or low that day, but you know how you flop one match and then come back strong the next one, if you know what I mean!

I am sorry I couldn't copy and pasted it very well.

1. Kraigg Brathwaite - 92* 125 balls 4(4's) 0(six) 73.60 SR
2. Trevon Griffiths b Usman Qadir - 84 55 balls 11(4's) 3(six) 152.73 SR
3. Evin Lewis b Muhammad Babar 0 2 balls 0(4's) 0(six) 0.00 SR
4. Andre Creary (C) lbw b Muhammad Babar 0 6 balls 0(4's) 0(six) 0.00 SR
5. Yannic Cariah b Usman Qadir 11 27 balls 0(4's) 0(six) 40.74 SR
6. Shane Dowrich (W) c Azeem Ghumman b Ahmad Shahzad 19 18 balls 2(4's) 0(six) 105.56 SR

This game will be a great one....two evenly matched teams....WI have the strength in their batting....

I'm watching out for the hungry Kraigg Brathwaite as well as Trevon Griffith......reminded me alot of the Gayle/Shiv opening pair.

Yannic Carriah the exciting all-rounder and skipper Creary are due for some runs.

From Bangladesh I'm looking out for Amit Majumder.

Only matches being played on Lincoln will be shown on TV. For a low budget tourny like this, you can't expect the broadcaster to set up their equipments in more than one location.

Star cricket don't have a choice here as they are merely buying feed from whoever broadcasting the match.

Our complete team preview....

ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Teams & Groups
Bangladesh Team Profile
Bangladesh has the potential to make a significant impact at this tournament and progress through to the latter stages of the event.

Unlike some of the other leading sides, its U19 players have had an opportunity to play as a team on a regular basis in the build-up to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, with a hectic schedule against some of the world’s leading teams.

This has resulted in a number of notable series victories which illustrates the potential of this team at U19 level.

It thrashed Sri Lanka 4-1, with a string of impressive performances that included a masterful 129 not out from Amit Majumder. Fast bowler Kamrun Ikmal finished the series as the leading wicket-taker.

It followed up that victory with a dramatic series win over England, clinching the series at Hove with a thrilling one-wicket triumph in the deciding match, when the home team failed to take advantage of a run-out opportunity, although it did lose the Test Match series 1-0.

To prove that the limited-overs series was no fluke, it comfortably beat England 5-2 in the return series, winning the opening four matches of the seven-game series, with Tasamul Haque the leading run scorer with 210 runs and medium pacer Saikut Ali finishing as the top wicket-taker for the series.

Zimbabwe was then subjected to a comprehensive 5-0 whitewash, with Mominul Haque and Anamul Haque in excellent form with the bat. The only blip for the young Bangladeshis has been failing to make the final of a rain affected tri-series competition also involving Sri Lanka and Pakistan in December, losing two matches, although it did record one victory over the host nation in Colombo.

Some of the side already have experience of playing in an ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, suffering a disappointing defeat to South Africa at the quarter-final stage in 2008, although it had defeated England in the group stages of the tournament.

And the opportunities to try and win a place in an inconsistent senior side, currently going through a transitional face, are also on offer for those who can inspire Bangladesh to glory at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

KEY PLAYER (HEADSHOT PHOTO AVAILABLE)

Amit Majumder - Centuries against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in 2009 have illustrated the talent of this exciting right-handed batsman, who made his debut in first-class cricket in 2008. He played just one match at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, but the teenager, who turned 19 on New Year’s Day in 2010, is sure to feature regularly in this edition of the competition

i'd agree he's one of the most consistent but generally he'll score 20/30 runs and take 1 or 2 wickets, in that regard he often holds the team together because he is a steady performer (consistent) and he often with the bat plays a crucial role when it comes to holding the innigns together even if it's not a match winning innings in the usual sense (boom boom century type of thing or taking 5/6 wickets). i think he's a really solid player but not sure if he'll become a more than solid player, shabbir however looks like he's going to turnout a really quality allrounder.
