Win, loss, white wash..... really, I don't mind.

I want to see at least 250 runs per innings, ODI or Test.
Would like to see solid percentage of runs coming from the top order.
I want to see them bowling line & length with variation.
I want to see pro active captaincy.
I want to see excellent fielding.
Good body language. Mental toughness.

Wins will come. We just had a baptism of fire. A one-off match. Let the kiwis gloat over it. I already saw the chink in their armor. Their line-up could be very vulnerable to our pace and spin. You can't get lucky every time. This was such a bad match, we just about made all the errors in the book in one match. It's over now.

Let the real show begin.

I know we are a much much better side than the T20 scoreline suggests. BD had a very wrong approach to the game, its a 120 ball game, not a 20 ball game. Batsman can have the luxury to settle down for a change!.
Anyways, expecting a much better performance from the team

Shafiul

Pls no Rubel, he is a very costly bowler. And guiss i honestly think Aftab shouldbe forced to play in onedown. Its a very tricky position to play in and it is too harsh on Aftab as he came back to cricket after soo long. give him some time to settle in and than he can play onedown. I am guesssing that Roqibul is going to be on the squad so why not try opening? he is a defence minded player and he would do fine with an agressive Tamim. It will be a good combo. Some ppl have suggested Mushfiq as opening and i think Roqib is same as Mushfiq when it comes to ODI. Mushfiq can play towards the end to back up a "Dhosh" if it occurs. We need Razzaq. Its clear and its always been that Seamers are no gud for kiwies. Best of luck Tigers. Lets not worry about T20. BD was never gud in it and and its not an important game.

bangladesh lost to a 2nd tier west indies team in twenty20. they lost to ireland too.

bangladeshi players get very hyped up during twenty20, they get out.

but ODI is different. they play better in ODI i think. tamim needs to make a good score, someone from the middle needs to score some quick runs.

zainab
February 3, 2010, 01:02 PM
Let's hope that the boys have learnt a bit of a lesson here, and they approach this ODI in a different mindset, that is to play the balls and stay at the wicket.

i am pretty sure if they bat first, they will bat out the 50 overs, dont know how many runs they will score, but hoping for more than 200 runs.

A word of caution fans, expect the unexpected, dont raise your hopes and expectations, or else you will only have heartbreak and frustration.

wasi90lkv1
February 3, 2010, 01:07 PM
they need to bat second, if they want to win (i think).

bangladesh does not have a very good pace attack. rubel has pace but he leaks too many runs.

new zealand has a very average team now, bangladesh should not get whitewashed.

You are missing the point. No one in here rates T20 that much, but it is still a cricketing format just like ODI is. It doesn't mean you go and get blown away in this format of the game too. Its not like we win tests and ODIs.

finally, someone who gets it.

who cares about 78 all out in garbage cricket? thats 78 runs too many if you ask me. instead of that t20, they should have added another ODI, or hell why not scrap everything and make it 3 Tests?

but enough with the sissy whining about a format of the game we suck balls at...yes, lets admit it, the afghans would school us in 20 overs cricket. but lucky for us, 50 over cricket and then the 5-day affair are things we're a little bit better at. plus, the kiwis are one of the weaker test teams and susceptable to quality pace attacks. the real games begin Friday at Napier...4 real games, and most likely we're gonna go 0-4. but hey, we bloodied some indian noses (or fractured some jaws to be pedantic about it) and if we can continue to fight, WINs will keep coming.

but yes, adjusting to NZ conditions is going to be tough...but we can't make excuses and pansy out of it. grab your cup, and score some runs...fight it out, graft if you have to.

our top order doesn't need much, one big innings from a tamim, ash, or shakib...and the lower order of rahim, riyad, and chokka will do the rest.

we'll do better than last time. guaranteed.

they need to win at least one ODI, this is not even full strength kiwi team.

need to get out of this mindset.

full strenght means all your AVAILABLE players are fit and in the squad. zimbabwe sans ervine, blignaut, et al is not full strength.

Bond has retired. he's not in the ICL, he's not injured, he's on Mashrafee's list.

by this logic, pakistan have been fielding a B squad for the past half decade since Wasim and Waqar have inexplicably refused to suit it up.

OK so bond only retired from tests...fine this is slightly weakened NZ side. but we're missing mash and rasel due to injury and coach's ill-decision (the only real siddons flaw, asides from perhaps persisting with Rock).

Important match for Bangladesh. Good way to gauge how they RESPOND not REACT to the pressure they're under ATM because of totally unacceptable batting as a unit. If they respond well, they can replicate some that success more consistently and go on to build on that. If they react well, we'll see some good individual performances and maybe a win before the one-step-forward-two-steps-back nachon-kudon starts all over again.

Good opportunity for Moyna to grow as a leader.

That said, Joy Bangla, Bangladesh Dirghojibi Hok! ... :fanflag:

KP, if you have seen the T20, you saw how the ball moves. Not only on the pitch, even on the outfield. It's a faster world out there. Tamim, Riyad & Nadim - only these 3 have natural bat speed to deal with it. The rest have to make a lot of adjustment very quickly. This means that we might see better batting as the series progresses. If they adjust to conditions better, they might end up with a surprise or two. Realistically speaking - this is too short of a series for our batsmen. So, you might be in for a disappointing series. Nothing new though, history repeats itself.

There is however, a brighter side to this - our bowlers will enjoy bowling there, specially if the pitch behaves the same way. Seam, reverse swing & spin - all will be enjoyed. As a coach, I would keep a keen eye, so our greenhorn pacers don't get too excited and injure themselves.

It has been a year to forget so far for Bangladesh, slumping to big defeats in each of their seven matches across all formats, topped off by the thrashing in the Twenty20 on Wednesday. And there's little to cheer them from their past record in New Zealand as well, brushed aside by the home side on every occasion.

To make matters worse, one-dayers are New Zealand's strongest suit. Their previous two assignments were a surprise run to the ICC Champions Trophy final and a series win over Pakistan in the UAE. All that makes a New Zealand victory on Friday seem as certain as a Meryl Streep Oscar nomination.

What will hearten Bangladesh, though, is that New Zealand are missing four first-choice one-day players: Jesse Ryder, Grant Elliott, Shane Bond and Kyle Mills. Also, while it was not on evidence during the walloping in Hamiltin, this is a much-improved Bangladesh side from the one that visited in 2007 - with a lot more experience, a world-class allrounder in Shakib Al Hasan and possessing the ability to shock top sides on their day, as Sri Lanka and West Indies found last year.

For New Zealand, this series will be a loosener for the big home contest coming up, the trans-Tasman clash with Australia.

Bangladesh LLLLW

Watch out for
Peter Ingram: The Central Districts opener has had to wait nearly a decade after his first-class debut to get his chance on the international stage, and he got a chance to ease himself into the top level during the straightforward chase in the one-off Twenty20. A clean striker of the ball and not too fussy about his footwork, Ingram has been prolific in domestic cricket over the past few seasons and knows his game well.

Mohammad Ashraful: His international career is as long as Ingram's first-class one, but though there have been occasional flashes of brilliance, consistency has eluded Ashraful all along. With more than 150 one-dayers under his belt, the time has come for him to deliver the performances expected of a senior player. The coach Jamie Siddons had said during the series against India that Ashraful was fortunate to still be on the national team, so another series of failures in New Zealand could mean the axe.

Team news
While New Zealand haven't made any announcement yet on their XI, the left-arm quick Andy McKay is likely to be the one missing out in Napier.

New Zealand: (probable) 1 Brendon McCullum (wk), 2 Peter Ingram, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Neil Broom, 6 Jacob Oram, 7 Daniel Vettori (capt), 8 James Franklin, 9 Ian Butler, 10 Daryl Tuffey, 11 Tim Southee.

Bangladesh relied heavily on their spinners during the promising run in 2009, but the slow bowlers have had little impact in Napier over the years, meaning the visitors will have to bolster the pace attack. Rubel Hossain is their fastest bowler, and could get a look-in ahead of one of the three pacers who played on Wednesday.

Bangladesh: (probable) 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Aftab Ahmed, 3 Mohammad Ashraful, 4 Raqibul Hasan, 5 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 6 Mushfiqur Rashim (wk), 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Naeem Islam, 9 Shahadat Hossain, 10 Shafiul Islam/Rubel Hossain, 11 Nazmul Hossain

Pitch and conditions
Napier has traditionally been one of the better pitches for batting in New Zealand - teams batting first have generally managed to get close to or above 300 over the past six years - and Friday promises to continue that trend. Rain isn't expected to interrupt the match on what promises to a pleasant day, maximum temperature predicted at 22 degrees.

Quotes
"In the last series against India and Sri Lanka we consistently made around 250 a game so this is a very good sign for us."

Shakib Al Hasan puts on a brave face ahead of the one-dayers despite the thrashing in the Twenty20 match

"We're under no illusions that these guys are capable of knocking us over at any given time so we have to play as well as we have done [in the Twenty20]."
Complacency, what's that? Asks Brendon McCullum

Bangladesh Should use another opener...

Junaid is gud opener and gave a gud start wid tamim..

Pressure on Ashraful,aftab,roqibul,sakib..

Should make runs to be in the team...
We can give some rest to roqibul and tested him in every part of the game..

He is a gud player he need some time to come back in place of him v can use another player who is in form..

I think CI preview was a bit too harsh on us. I doubt this was a year to forget[so far]. in the TriNation, it wasn't India/Sl who beat us, it was the dew in most cases. In tests.....well we played #1 team and had our moments. As we play more tests we will make the moments into matches.

I saw a bit of the repeat match when BD was batting, the ball was indeed rising very much, Aftab was swinging away without connecting, I thought the batsmen were complacent in not watching that rising ball very carefully, and this is what did them in. Tamim was batting well, until he could not resist a wild swing again and the ball hit his gloves and Mccallum took took the catch. They wanted to slug every ball, forgot that they had 120 balls to play.

That was a brilliant strategy by the team management for the only T20. They intentionally played shite so that The Kiwis are complacent and we can catch them off guard in the ODIs....after all thats our target ... WINNING the ODI series!

I think so. NZ wanted to judge our strength and weakness. I think BD very smart thing, knowing that was their warm-up match. It is similar to losing to Zim in warm-up match. Haven't I said that BD need to play sensible cricket.

Let’s be honest, Bangladesh has a long way to go before it is even considered a threat internationally.

Their bowling attack is flimsy, at best, at worst, it is more brittle than polycrystalline iridium (trust me, that is brittle).

Shahadat Hossain has gone for close to nine an over in his four T20 internationals so far, Shafiul Islam is yet to make his T20 debut and Nazmul Hossain made his debut mid-2009 against the West Indies failing to impress with 1/15 off two overs.

Interesting now we have to request to train our players so that they understand why their bowling is like polycrystalline iridium. May be that will develop the chemistry knowledge they require to improve.

The description I am hearing of Aftab and our top orders who were just swinging at everything is really dissapointing...At this level of cricket adjusting to line and length is important even you fail in first few attempts. Opportunities do not wait for long, if they are still at this stage take so much time and wrong approach, when they will learn?

I would imagine Rakibul would be a better choice instead of Aftab in this game since we need a "250 ball 20 run" type player when considering the seeming conditions of NZ....we can't play pace that well...!!! And I am kinda confused abt whether Shahadat or Shafiul would be a better option...Shafiul was getting quite a bit of pace in the T20...he bowled quite a few deliveries around 138,139 km/h....!!! but Rubel should be out of it...!!!

I had enough of Kayes's bad Payesh and Raqibul's Bull...If Imrul Kayes can score 30 runs today, I will stop mentioning his name for one year but I dont think he will past 20 at the most. The rationale for that remark is his sheer inability to play high rising balls which will force him to be caught out for sure if he isnt out trying to play cross bat and get out the first 2 overs. For Napier pitch, I think they should not have Aftab or Imrul rather have someone like Ashraful open. But that aint gonna happen.... For Raqibul, the same thing, he is crealy out of form and our management team is in pure denail or doesnt know how to get players out of their form by helping them out with an alternate strategy than continuing to select them for the international matches.. But man, if I see Shakib playing his stupidest shots again for the umteenth time,, I will open the hate thread before he even returns to the dressing room!!!

Well, they have dropped Aftab after one game. That is a boost to his confidence. I dont think he will do worse than Imrul. Anyhow, hoping that BD better their lowest score in NZ 2008 when Mccallum really thrashed them single handedly.

i really bad for rasel . he got injured when he was playing in NZ (practice match). Siddons seems to never like him for some reason. after the injusry he played against pakistan in pakistan in a batting paradise wicket. he is unlucky. next game he was dropped.
