View Full Version : Your pick for #3

My pick - Naeem Islam. He was an opener/one-down batsman early in his career, but later moved down. I still think he got necessary ingredients to take up the #3 slot in the ODI team.

In tests, naeem or rajin saleh...

Aftab Ahmed - as a short term solution.

Mushfiq/Naeem - in the long term. I wish we get a decent wicketkeeper batsman for the national team as it would permamnently solve number 3 position for both Tests and ODI. I would play batsman Mushfiqur at number 3 in both Tests and ODIs.

Naeem for limited over. Zunaid for test cricket. Naeem can play middle order in test cricket.

Whats worng with zunaid as number 3. Although he's average may not be something which picks up the eye at present he has the makings in him to be yet another tamim but with a little bit more patience. Although he's not had many huge scores himself, hes helped many other players make tons etc and has everyone forgotten the partnerships of 150-200 likes he occasional has with Tamim. I think he should play number 3. Undoubtdely. New need to get any new players in as i think our team is slowley starting to gain experience together and gel. ash en aftab need the axe and naeem and rokibul to be brought back in. Atleast c how it goes for 1 or two games. This is for both odi en test.

I would not mind to see him back at #4, if he can get his confidence back. But enough with experimenting him at #3.

Even Sharapova is a better choice going by performance. Enough of your Ash kissing. He don't deserve a spot even at #9.

Ash is best at no 5. So, find a no3, let Shakib come at 4 like he did in WC and let Ash bat at 5 in ODIs. And this ENG series will be his last chance. If he scores 2 50s, he stays. Otherwise, dump for unknown period.

In test team, Ash has no place at all. PERIOD.

Mushfiqur might be handly in spot 3 followed by Shakib, Ullah and Naeem. Time to promote one step of each of later batsmen. There is no way Ash or non performing batsmen should hold the critical spot.

I dnt undastand the unusuall butt kissin of naeem islam all of a sudden. Dnt get me rung i am much of a fan of chocka naeem as a die hard fan but i jus dnt undastand how he can be batting that high up with the way he plays., i mean im yet to be proved rung but doesnt naeem onlii play slog strokes , i mean iv not seen him once plaay a decent cover drive of a genunine test level batsmen., so how can he be playing the most important position role of a batting line up !! :umm: if he cnt play cricketing shots rather then jus sloggs.

I fink tha best man 4 tha job rite nw is junaed himself., i wuz pulling out tha hair on my head the way he wuz playin the last tym he wuz in the odi team ., constantly playin shots in the air and eventually holdin out to 1 of the fielders with onlii scorin 20 odd runs but nw since he got dropped his seemed to relli work hard on his game nd looks a different player nw., evn tho his runs duzen suggest so but u can see the difference., he has sum flaws with hs front foot movement but over time that can be sorted out wiv our evergreen coach siddons ,@tm he shud be the man 4 the job required @ number 3.
im hopein he will prove me rite inshallah xxx

Actually, Nayeem is more of a typical "copybook" (if I may) batsman than a slogger. He is the kind of guy who likes to settle down, work the ball around, get his ones and twos and blast out near the end. He's a builder and a good one at that. He averages 36 in FC matches with 5 centuries and 17 fifties with a strike rate of 44. In the past, he has performed as part of the academy team as well.

But like most others, he has been subjected to play a different role in the national team than the ones he has played all his life. The only reason he slogs in ODI matches is because he comes in so late.

i really don't know what naeem is like batting in the top order, he's done ok lower order internationall but i would be more comfortable seeing him in the middle order first, same goes for riyad and mushy.

of those not in the team i guess it's between faisal, farhad and jahurul. i havent' seen any of them play so really can't say much about them but maybe we should be bringing one of them in. everyone talks about faisal's poor technique so maybe he shouldn't be the one brought up, jahurul opens and farhad bats a 4 usually so jahurul seems like the pick but for some reason i just have this feeling about farhad.

definitely don't want aftab, would prefer not to have raqibul at #3 (like him much better at 4) and although ash has done alright in ODIs over the last couple of years he's looked horrible recently so probably shouldn't have him at 3 either.

i guess the my main contenders would be ash, raqibul, farhad and jahurul. i think realistically raqibul won't be given the #3 spot but ash and aftab will be considered, i doubt they'll bring in a newbie so i think it's down to aftab or ash atm.

mushy/riyad/naeem are possible long term #3's.

yeah seems like the thing to do, i mean mushy, riyad and naeem probably aren't quite ready at #3 and because of that they are more valuable in the middle/lower order at this point. ash and aftab just aren't cutting it and it's useless continuing with them at this stage, raqibul really isn't a number 3. so a few face seems like it could be the right move in whcih case it's faisal, farhad or jahurul, unless you want to pick an opener and play them at 3 in which case nazmus sadat might be in the running in one-dayers (not in tests though) or even rony talukder or uttam sarkar. i guess junaid is an option but he hasn't been cutting it, alok is always in the mix but he's shown no reason to be picked as a #3.

ok i get the point ur tryin to make bro .., but do forgive my ignorance can he actually play cover drive shots because the amount of time iv seen him bat he alwais seems to work the ball on the on side . not seen him play alot of shots on the off. n if he is to bat @ number 3 shuden u hav a decent technique along wiv not all but atleast a few shots up ur repetuarr ( rung spellin i knw ) :shh: ,
i am not undermining wat he had to adjust to in his brief but exciting career so far but
im sure ur well aware of the intensity of international cricket compared that to the domestic fc matches and the level of it too ., so in his case i gess im just gnna have to wait n see if he can prove me rung and bat higher up not sure bw # 3 tho :-*

I can't remember watching him play the cover drive, but again, he hardly gets the chance to bat for long enough in ODIs as he comes in at #8.

Btw, I don't want him batting at #3 either. Check out the poll - I want Mushfiq there. Like Gowza, I too would like to see Naeem bat in the middle order.

i guess if i had to pick one of riyad, naeem and mushy to bat at 3 it would be mushy, it's unfortunate that they're not willing to try these 3 higher up the order rather than lower order, sure mushy abts a 6 nowadays in ODIs but that's a massive difference from the #3 slot whereas if we got to see him at #4 we'd get a much better idea of whether he's ready for #3 or not.

Interestingly enough, his stats are better batting in the top 3 than at #4. Then again, we've never given him a long enough run in any of those positions.

what u must remember tho my fellow tigers is that mushy also has to keep throughout the day !! i dnt knw bot u but evn sum1 hu was bigger and taller in stature wud find it demanding neva mind our lickle body ov mushiqur ! lol
he evn sed so him self ., i fink we shuden mess with the lower order leave it as it is ,
to quote our beloved coach siddons riyad has onlii started n needs time to develop
as a batsmen so experimentin with inform playas n their positions can stun that development., and leave them bemused ., wich is a verri bad thing 4a new player on da block , learnin things about himself.

it wud actually help alot if other players such as imrul , roqibul and peter pan n aftab actually stood up and showd sum heart and some cojones . insted ov reliaing on tamim, shakib,n riyad to kum up with the goods.

Aftab seems the best choice at the moment. bring up Mushy, MM, SAH, Naeem as 4 - 7, If Mash is back at 8, thats pretty solid. Not much you can do if that order fails by padding the tail more.

IMO its riyad. With his strike rotating abilities and secure shot selection I think he is the right man for the job, especially in tests.

Padding the tail is indeed a pretty defensive strategy. Shows that you're playing for a respectable defeat.

Riad is a good batsman with testy temperament, he can be a good hitter during powerplay as well.
He can be accompanied by Shakib, Ash can take Riad's place to go berserk along with Naeem.

I don't think Aftab is a good choice. He is almost like a thing of the past, like Ashraful. Even if he is given a chance at #3, 4 or 5, I don't he can sustain for more than 6 months by clear him away from the upcoming talented performing players. He will have hard time fighting against these new talented performing players. Selectors can do him favors for few matches only. Lets bring some new talented performing players from NCL/DPL. As because some players have been selected and played in the national team, does not mean that we have to pick all of them in round robin fashion. You don't perfom in international matches after giving enough chances, go back to domestic. You want to come back, be on the top in domestic matches, otherwise be happy with domestic matches and leave rooms for new talented performing players. Only talent means nothing if someone cannot perform. I rather like to see the statistical numbers behing their runs and wickets than the hype called talent or prospect.

I didn't vote for him because I don't want to see him playing at 3 anymore. He is good at 4/5/6. Plus don't want to see him playing in this series or the following one. Want to see him playing hte domestic leagues and get his confidence back.

Want to see how the Bangladesh team do without him.

Voted for Aftab. He was our best player at no.3 before joing the ICL.

he is solid. Playing him at no.6 position is complete waste as he is not big hitter. He needs some time to settle in but once he settled he starts to score freely. We need this type of player at no 3 who will support and control Tamim from brain fart by reminding him his duty after every delivery.

voted for mushy...but waiting to see if ash flops or flies in the england ODIs.

a friend of mine spoke to akram khan, chief selector last week...seems as though BCB is not going to be making any wholesale "drop aftab/ash" type changes in the forseeable future.

fingers crossed...

For tests, definitely not Mushy. Though he may be very capable, the poor kid would be dead tired after keeping for long periods, hence he should bat at the earliest around #5. In ODIs, by all means, stick Mushy in the #3 slot. I'd love to see Naeem up there, but he hasn't even had the chance to play higher than #7...big risk, and possibly denting his confidence if we put them there, watch him fail and throw him out of the team. Zunaid for tests I suppose, he hasn't done too badly.

yeah not mushy in tests, for that to happen he first has to succeed in that spot in ODIs and he needs to drop the gloves in test cricket.

Well the poll is for ODIs, but if we must talk about Tests, I'd like to see the following in the top four:

1. Tamim
2. Imrul
3. Zunaed
4. Naeem

In that order.
