i think we should use aftab during the batting powerplay. so 7 would be his original position and we may promote him depending on when we take batting powerplay

Yeah I think that could be a good idea. We can utilise his skills during the powerplay when the fielders will pbe in and he can smack it to the boundaries.

Assuming we use Aftab for Powerplay, then my lineup would be:

1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Imrul Kayes
3. Mushfiqur Rahim
4. Mahmudullah
5. Shakib al Hasan
6. Naeem Islam
7. Aftab Ahmed
8. Suhrawadi Shuvo
9. Mashrafe Mortaza
10. Shafiul Islam
11. Rubel Hossain

fantastic thread. if u check my post in another thread, this is the exact team i posted. i just changed rubel for razzaq.
aftab should definately bat lower down the order, he can do the same job as yusuf pathan is doing for india.
mushfiqur is an innings builder, who when set, can play the big shots and accelerate. what he cannot do, however, is come in and start slogging straight away. so let him face alot of balls, let him 'rotate the strike', let him be our number three

I would love to see someone like Mithun Ali take the gloves off Mushy and be given the task of slogging in the powerplay overs. I don't know how good his wicket-keeping skills are though.

I am more comfortable playing Aftab in the vacant one down position.Since i am not going with Zunaed there are not any players in the team who would be more suitable for this position.Mushy could have been the only answer but he struggles with the seem and new ball.

I used to like Aftab, but currently I don't see a place for the mindless slogger anywhere in the team. I will take Zunaed over him.

I am also ok for now with Aftab at #3, if he can give us 35+ quick runs. Now (with Ash @3) we were getting single digit run with SR 40+ which was pretty much killing us from both end ( runs as well as SR).

Plus I am not so comfortable with brining back Junaid yet.
Now that we already bought Aftab, I am still kind of "wait and see what he can do" mode

aftab shouldn't be in the the squad let alone the team atm, same with junaid. we are batting them at #3 and they haven't cut it, time to try and find a decent #3 before the WC, that means leaving these 2 out of the squad and bringing in a couple of different batsmen.

THis is a good idea if he is able to connect the bat with the ball. In the test match and the ODI's against NZ, it was dreadful to watch him flash at every ball and keep missing.

me too!

But if he is included in the team despite his limited capability (especially to new/moving balls) I would like to see him at 6/7. I don't see how ppl prefer him at 3!!!:o 20~25 quick runs with some mindless slogging with giving 3/4 lives on that 20 some runs of his, will only encourage the bowlers and we the supporters along with the other players will be cringed in shame during that period. How about that for a moral boost? Plus how often we have seen scores like 60/0 then 150 all outs!! I would prefer steady runs on the first 35 overs then slogging...we need singles and doubles in the middle part of the innings not couple of 4s/6s and then out.

And realistically speaking he rarely scores 25+ runs! So actually we are looking at single digit figure with that mindless slogging. He is no diff from Asrafool... may be worse...

I somewhat agree with this point. Currently, we are lacking a solid 3 and this has been the reason the team is not performing and we lost couple of games from wining position. Ash with his experience could have been the best choice but he has shown remarkable consistency in his unwillingness to learn. So, the best choice for me is Shakib (only if he keeps his cool). He is among the few members of the team who can rotate the strike. This is very important if we want compete in the top level. But again early part of the innings Shakib is not so good with the moving balls as well. That's why we are forced to experiment with originally side benchers like junaid/aftab.:(:hairpull: we need to sort out this problem b4 the WC.

One good thing about Aftab is he does not waste any balls. He is better off at number 3.
If we get 20-30 runs in 15-20 balls, I would say thats a bonus.

yes agree. if aftab plays or junaed--they should bat at number 3. we should not mess up with our already fixed 6, 7, 8 position. according to rafiqul alam--- we have the best 6,7,8 in the world and i agree with him too

adding shuvo in the team will make the team perfectly balanced. very good decision, hope he can meet our expectations..

adding shuvo means-- we can drop razzaq and without losing batsman or bowler
shuvo can replace junaed/aftab and we will have extra bowler and allrounder

Aftab shouldn't bat at all, not in the national team. If he must, then it's high time he starts piling up the runs, unless he wants to go play street cricket with Hannan Sarkar.

Let's open with Aftab and have him hit every ball until 4th over with 3 lives, and he gets the fastest 50 in the record book after playing 11 balls.

4 . 4 . 4 . 1. 4 4 6 1 4 4 6 . 1. 4 . 6 ...his 50 comes at the 20th ball of the match ........:floor:.....:floor:....:floor:

we have just got rid of our deadwood. now need some change in batting order to stabilize the top order.

The thing is, even if Aftab comes in at #3, he will still be in powerplay and can play a similar role. Only this way his early boost can ease the way for others and provide Mushy/Riyad some time to settle in and then play their game.
Plus, I think moving Riyad/Nayeem from 7,8 can really disturb their game.

Lets face the fact, Aftab is NOT in the team to build an innings, he is in the team to cause dent against opposition hope, if it is at all. Better to try him later down if needed than at the begining.

I know a few people are claiming that our batting has severely weakened because of the (potential) exclusion of 2 batsman, but 1) #3 and #4 hardly scored any runs anyway. 2) Shuvo and Mashrafe (if he plays) can bat a bit which would probably be equivalent if not better than the score of #3 or a #4. 3) The reason we couldn't win any matches in the tri-series was because we couldn't take any wickets, so hopefully with the inclusion of an added bowler will make our bowling department a bit stronger and we can create pressure simply by having good economy rates.

u r right. if we play shuvo at 8 followed by 3 bowlers, we have a good balance in team.
