View Full Version : I think Ashraful deserves a test spot- As a bowler :D

Yeah I know I am gonna get KDPP but ohh well. I mean he was our best bowler throughout the whole match (highest wickets in a single inning). 3 wickets, including 1 each of Pietersen and Bresnan. He was also able to bowl 21 overs. He also scored a handy 30, good enough for a number 8 or 9 :P

And remember, he has always said he likes bowling. Heck, I think I read somewhere that he likes it more than batting. He came into cricket as a bowler, then became a bowling Allrounder then a fluke century against SL and he became a genius/prodigy (thought back then) and became one of the main batsmen for the team and was put into a lot of pressure. He did deliver some Eid-innings, but thats because he was made to work on his batting. I personally think he never really enjoyed batting and lost his concentration most of the times because he wasnt interested in it.

I have seen before when he was handed the ball and most of the times got wickets. Its not like we have a very big amount of leg spinners. We havent had a decent leg spinner for a long long time. Maybe if he enjoys bowling, and he is encouraged to work on it more, I am sure he will be good. And he is still comparatively young considering some International players. He still has a lot of time if he wants to rediscover and redefine himself. Maybe its time??

It takes alot of hard work to master leg spin, and you need a wicket taking delivery like flipper, a top spinner or googly, He only has a Average Top Spinner at the moment ... Also you need to be able to think, and force the Batsmen to play shots and set them up.

if you get it wrong one day you'll go 0-112, because leg spin is always a bit expensive but usually produces has the highest SR in terms of spin bowling

If he want to be a spinner, than he needs to build his stamina to bowl long spells, you can tell in the NCL match where he took 4 wickets, he couldn't bowl post follow on because he didn't have the stamina.

You need to be able to bowl 20-25 over spells and be prepared to bowl up 50 overs per innings

Looks like I am a minority here... but if you ask me....

I think Ashraful deserve a test spot as a wicketkeeper instead.

You may ask me how you know?

My answer would be , You never know unless you try... and our national team is a perfect place to give it a try..... for the sake of Ashraful

I agree. But he bowled 21 overs in that match. And thats pretty good considering he is not used to it. And he does pull off a flipper type googly sometimes. And talk about technique, even without much practice, if he can get a batsman like pietersen out, I am sure if he tries he will probably be able to get similar wickets. And who is not expensive?? Maybe except for Mediums??

And Shardul bro, thanks, I expected it ;), as I said in the opening post :D

Perfect! He should play as a spinner and come in to bat at number 9.

Forget about batting, leg spin, and wicketkeeping, that Dooshraful alone should have sealed his place in the test side forever.

if he wants to be a specialist bowler then he needs to do a lot more bowling to demonstrate his skills

Not a bad idea. If you ask me, his real talents are behind non-striker's stumps as an umpire. I would have him umpire Bd games instead of Moni.

Poor Ashraful. I feel bad for him. Hopefully he will come back strong. He just needs to settle his mind, perhaps meditation would help him.

A leg spinner-allrounder turned into a specialist batsman on his debut test match with a sparkling test century; used to be called the future of the batting line up of Bangladesh - turns into an allrounder again.

And his name is none other than Mohammad Ashraful.

Lets you wonder why we started calling him the future of our batting line up with just a one century.

Well, at that time we had none who could score 50 against Murali. Why shouldn't we call him batting future? Matter of fact he also scored only 100 against AUS in ODI. He also has other contributions as well. Don't deny now.

More importantly, he has class, he is similitude of Lara.

Nice joke, Ashraf.

Ash has potential to be a champion legspinner, just like I have potential to be ambidextrous. My left handed mirror writing ain't that bad, just looks likes the writings of a four year old, but legible nonetheless ;)

buddy, that wasnt supposed to be a joke. A player should be played the way he wants to play, not the way the coach or the fans want to play him. Only then you can reach his potential. Some of you cant accept changes...

I blame siddons for the bad form of Ash, since he became coach, Ash's batting has gone downhill,
think about it. I feel Ash should hire himself a different batting coach.
because he has tried to change the way Ash bats, because of this, he is confused, tries too many things, dont know when to be defensive or attacking, his mind is all muddled and loses concentration and confidence.

Siddons and everyone here who hates Ash should be congratulating themselves that he is out of the national team.,but is'nt it this guy who made a blistering 94 against the Brits in 2005?and won the game for BD against the Aussies?
I also feel that Ash should become a bowling allrounder, he himself said thart he loves to bowl.

I don't think Siddons is actually harming Ash. I don't think JS is capable of pinpointing the problem he needs to work on. Technique was never Ash's problem, with the tiny backlift, late reacting, blah blah he managed to score some unbelievable knocks.
Ash's problem was/is consistency, I believe what Ash needs is a sports mentality coach rather than a batting coach.
If he can play those 94(50) innings once every 10 innings, I'd take that, which means he wins us one out of 10 games, the remaining 10 players can work on winning the other 9.

Check the mirror ;)

Well ok fiine, You wanna forget totally about Ash?? Then why open threads like master blaster and ****?? He isnt a master blaster. I opened this thread to raise awareness about the pressure from the coach and the board on players. And how it can ruin their careers. And look, Rock retires. Good thing I opened this thread before that news :D

And by changes I didnt mean to keep bringing back Ash as a batting failure. I said just try something different on him. Its not like we have much better leg spinning AR prospectrs.
