View Full Version : Could Jahurul islam be considered as the wicket keeper for BD team ?

As we all are frustrated about Mushy's wicket keeping, could Jahurul Islam Aumi (the highest run scorer in this year's NCL) be tested as the main wicket keeper for BD team? I don't know very well about his wicket keeping ability. But testing him as the wicket keeper would also give our batting line up a bit more depth. if Mushy bats up the order (purely as a batsman) and an inconsistent top order batsman (i.e Aftab Ahmed) is dropped, I think, our batting line up would be more strong and stable. Thus the line up could be some thing as follows:

Tamim
Imrul
zunayed
Shakib
Mahmudullah
Mushfiq
Nayeem
Zahurul
Shafiul (I would prefer Mashrafe as he can bat a little bit)
Enamul Jr/Razzaq
Rubel

What do you guys think about this idea?

As athar ali khan said on commentary yesterday, having Jahurul take over the keeping duties is certainly a viable option.

He is a top order batsman in domestic cricket who is in-form, so he could easily come in for either imrul and aftab. Each batsman could shift up one position and Jahurul could slot in at no 7 or 8, which shouldn't be too daunting for a debutant.

The only question is, is jahurul good enough to keep wicket in tests?

I'd definitely drop razzak and bring enamul in. I'd also be tempted to replace rubel with shafiul. He's not as quick, but he has better line and length.

SWOT analysis could've easily been done there. no wonder, the Mods have come up with an open threat against threads.

sincere apologies again if i mean to hurt your feelings.

i do like your idea. but the problem is, jahurul has lost his gloves to Dhiman Ghosh this season and was merely confined to the role of a batsman esp. as an opener with an exception of one or two occassions!

he is not a regular WK for rajshahi.

as a batsman perhaps he is best an opener

Look if he's not aregular keeper for Rajshahi, no way is he taking gloves away from Mushfiq. We need a full-time keeper to do the keeping. His batting can be attrocious, as long as he's the best keeping option. Batting only comes into the equation when you cannot separate two candidate's keeping (obth being much better than Mushfique)

He didn't keep regularly for Rajshahi. Actually Rajshahi have 3 WK. Pilot, Jahirul and Dhiman the big mouth.

No. Johirul has shown promise as a top-order batsman and that's where he should play.

Dhiman for specialist keeper.

hmm..... looks like it is a bad idea. but we need a wicket keeper who is better than mushy and also handy with the bat.

No point in having two players who can bat and keep a bit. We need a quality keeper and jahurul can be tried instead of imrul as batsmen. Saghir should come in instead of aftab as wk and swap batting position with naeem.

Agreed.

I am totally against a part-time wicket-keeper. We need the best wicket-keeper just like when you select a fast bowler you don't start thinking about his batting - that may come later in the nets etc.

Think about it: you drop a catch of Tendulkar [ as we did ], Kallis or any reasonable batsmen. What 's the cost in additional runs ? It pales into insignificance compared to the additional runs a batsman-wicket keeper might score.

However, if the first choice wicket-keeper is a good batsman anyway - so much the better.

Dhiman is a pretty good bat anyway.

I think its time to give Sagir hossain a chance since we are building for future,, dhiman is poor as batsman now, I still want no traitors in the team : NO SHAHREER NAFEES, NO AFTAB, AND NO DHIMAN!!
people forget so easily...

this is my line up, no faisal,, cos he is too old, even if he is 28.

tamim iqbal
johrul omi
junaed siddiqui
roquibul hasssan
mushfiqur rahim
mahmudullah
naeem
shakib (his role will mainly be as a bowler, so he can concentrate on bowlin and when needed can produce fast runs)
saggir hussain (wicket keep + runs)
shafiul islam
Mashrafee Mortaza (we dont have time for him to play in local league and come back, we have to risk it now in international arena)

If we want a specialist Keeper, Dhiman is the man. Despite everything, I never watched a BD keeper as athletic as him.

But If we were to d├ębut Omi, It might not be such a bad Idea to let him keep and bat at the lower order. But would that be fair to him? Does he consider himself a WK or a Batsman?

We can't afford too many mix and match. Naeem as a bowler and tail-ender is bizarre enough.

I rather see a competent keeper holding onto all the catches and helping us to win than bother about what bs came out of his mouth in the past.
