View Full Version : Pick your 4-MAN seam attack for England

The stage is set! The playing pitch is a green minefield, the surface is hard, yet moist. The cloud conditions are very overcast. The ball is bound to swing, seam and bounce.

The pacer's paradise. Now assuming all Bangladeshi players are 100% fit, including mashrafe, who would you pick.

There are too many pacers in contention, so there I decided there should be no poll.

I would pick

Test
1. Mashrafe (edit would like Sajidul if Mash cant cope)
2. Robin
3. Shafiul
4. Rubel

ODI
1.Mashrafe
2. Syed Rasel
3. Shafiul
4. Rubel

1 and 2 are opening bowlers, 3 is 1st change, and 4 is second change.

not bad, like the test picks but would also consider subashis and sajidul (if he's fit). for one-dayers maybe pick subashis over rasel...

English pitches wont be that dry. it will have moisture.

anyway our tests are at old trafford and lords. old trafford will be typical green pitch. lords is actually a good for batting.

odi's at nottingham (the best batting pitch in england i think), birmingham (good for bowlers) and bristol (not sure about this one.)

whatever the condition be u will see our batsmen struggle and then get out.

but u wont see english struggle that much but even if they struggle they will get set and score big.

our bowlers who grew up bowling in slow low flat pitches dont know the art of bowling in those kind of pitches. any way still i think this should be the line up provided all are fit and in form.

mashrafe/shahadat
nazmul/robin
rubel
shafiul

It will all depend on what the plan is. If we are looking to win then selecting the best pacers make sense. If we have already given up on the tests by planning for draw then just choose allrounders and batsmen.

I know Robin has picked up wickets this season, but they were pretty costly. What was his accuracy like in general? Anyone watch?

Without Masri and Rasel at their peaks, it will be very difficult for us to pose much of a threat with our pace attack. I'd probably go with Nafi's line-up.

Fail. It won't be a minefield. I think that Razzak should be dropped for Robin.

Is Mash lost his bhuri? How hard is Watmore going after Mash at the nets? Any IPL followers here?

'No news on Mashs bhuri. He's not in the 23-man squad, so they leave him behind when they go to play in other cities. His dad says he's training hard with Wasim, but that's just his dad.

You should visit the IPL forum more often. ;)

Once the game becomes F5, you will see me all over the place. Yes, that is the future of cricket. :-*

We need a lefty pacer in the mix. My four man : Rubel, Shafi ( I think he will have the best series ), Sajidul ( what happened to him? ), Mash ( fitness required )/ Robin.

Good one Nafi bhai.

Also Sajedul can be considered. He is an excellent seam bowler with good swinging ability.

Mash can be considered for the ODIs, not for tests because a bowler will have to bowl over 25 overs in test matches especially against a team like England. Mash only has to bowl 10 overs in an ODI.
Even Malinga after a serious injury and a layoff for a year was not pushed into bowling in a test match. Mash's body will not handle it as he had both knees operated on. Come on guys, it is not even a year since he has had this misfortune, he will return in his own time when his doctor, trainer and physio feels that the time is right. We prefer a better, fitter Mash.

Yeh in an ideal world I would have an inform and fit Sajidul to replace vulnerable mash for test, but the guy has been out of cricket for so long.

I don't think we would pick a 4 man pace attack in Tests and ODIs. I can only see places for 3 pacers.

Even in the bouncy pitches of England, I will go with two pacers only.

That was my initial reaction too. But then other than Shakib, who do we have to bowl spin and be successful in adverse conditions?

No one other than A. Razzak for ODIs.
So we have no other way but to take 4 pacers and 3 might play.
Even though highest possibility is 2 pacers would be in the best eleven.

1. Tamim
2. Shahadat (this is a good way of getting a few runs, he offers a bowling option)
3. Big Z
4. Jahurul
5. Riyad
6. Mushy
7. Naeem
8. Shakib
9. Shafiul
10. Robin
11. Rubel

Naeem and razzak are not going to get any test wickets.

This kind of attitude is not going to win us matches....'maybe' draws.

Majority of pitches in the UK are not green minefields nowadays. They offer a 50/50 balance between bat and ball, and offer swing till lunch on the first morning, and every morning for the first hour when there are overcast conditions. Edgebaston. Cardiff. Old Trafford are flat, batsmen friendly pitches. Even Headingly isn't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, there's always something for the bowlers in England but nowadays what Nafi was saying in his original post is a rarity. Headingly used to be a seamers paradise but that is slowly dieing away.

Birmingham btw is a batsmen paradise, flat track, remember Ponting's toss 2005....Oval is the same. Lords offers a good contest between bat and ball but bowlers struggle with the hill there. Chester Lee Street will be bowler friendly, Old Trafford is 50/50 on the first day, and becomes spin friendly later on. Roughens up alot on days 4 and 5, again remember the Ashes there in 05, last time cricket was played there IIRC

However any swing for us will be lethal
