View Full Version : Who/What is your Bias?

Rubu
March 25, 2010, 08:50 PM
I think we all have our biases toward some players or type of players.

Some of us know that we have this bias, some of us don't.

To be clear though, this is not the same as favorite players. The word bias has a negative connotation to it. That is, you know that it might not be the best option but still prefer it.

I'll tell you mine: the ones that are less talented than others but works harder than others to overcome what they lacks there. The late Rana was a prime example of that. (actually, this whole thought process started when I was thinking on 16th march, why I liked him so much). Actually, that is my favorite group not only in sports but everywhere else.
Other example would be Rajin Saleh and to some extend Mohammad Rafique.

so who/what is your bias and why?

my bias tends against fans who glorify overachievers without much talent :) A team should have 1-2 at most of such players. To win consistently, you need ideally talented players who slog their a__es off (Mushy, Shaki, Tamim). But you can/should still accommodate 1-2 super-talents who are perhaps not the best role model (Gower, Lara, Botham, Ganguly). Note I don't list Ash in any of the categories. Ash is a middling talent who thinks he's a genius and lacks IQ to boot.

My bias is toward having one or two batters who can stick to the crease like glue, even if they are not strokemakers. SriLanka, in its early development stage, had Roy Dias, Dilip Mendis who would spend a lot of time in the crease to assure a draw. We lack that kind of batsmen, and the closest ones I can think of are Mushy, Rajin Saleh and Roqibul. And, that is why we need Rokibul back.
We also need to have more batters who can play rising deliveries. Ironically our 5-feet-tall Mushy plays better than any other.

I hate Ash probably he is the most talented batsman Bangladesh have ever produced. He is a gifted player.Despite everything gifted by God he failed to make the talent turn into performance simply because he is a person with low IQ.Sorry i can not support make my team retarde anymore.

my bias is agasint ashraful. thank u for ur services, but ur career is up son. yes u may be 26, but u spent 10 yers in international criket, and most cricketers spend 10 yers n theyre done. so ur doen regardless of age. he neva got around to discovering consistency around his talent. maybe an education n some wisdom will do him good.

my bias is with tamim n shakib. in these 2, one can see leaders, future leaders of our team. the way they conudtc themselves- professional, confident, and visionary are all signs of maturity and growth.

these 2 and ashraful are complete opposties. ashraful cud never emulate the personalities of these 2.

Ashraful!Ashraful!!Ashraful!!!
I don't care how often he fails, how quizzed he looks I will always be a HUGE fan of this bloke, because I have seen flickers of his capabilities. No other Bangladeshi batsmen[maybe tamim] has the capability to reap through an English/Australian attack in England.
So, when I think Ash should be out of the team, it means he should be left alone in the Sundarbans for 14 years, where he will find some half man, half horse, get married and stay happily ever after.

tendency to like some players despite their mistakes which cause failure to them, in this context. The dont like biasness is how well they perform still they are not good enoug in my eyes, in this context.

If there were 11 Bd players in a lineup, I'd shoot them in the following order of least favorite to most favorite:

11. Rubel - cost us too many times with his short n wide deliveries
10. Shahadat - ditto
09. Roqibul- technically he should be the first one to be brush-fired for his rong-dhong but he's a great grafter so he survives for three seconds
08. Razzak (probably singlehandedly cost us the England test series)
07. Kayes (terrible test opener and his 100 still didnt do anything for me in ODI)
06. Junaed (meh- in the middle, had to get shot sometime).
05. Riyad (sort of like Bevan of our team, hard worker and hence gets to survive)
04. Mushfiq (hard worker, gets to survive in my watch)
03. Shakib-al Hassan
02. Tamim Iqbal
01. Ashraful

Yup admit it, love him or hate him, your life is meaningless nihilistic void without Ashraful.

Basically the current bangladeshi team..gotta admit tho i really have a bias towards roqibul "the rock" hasan..because of the fact that he is a very different batsman compared 2 everyone else..even his boundaries are nothing flashy..he just gets the job done by building partnerships..also have a bias towards players that are not very popular on the forum..some people like mushfiq and mahmudullah ive always had a bias 4..also gotta admit i have a bias against aftab and alok and pretty much the iclers not because of when they left but because they were just overrated players that were getting 2 much praise..have a bias towards ash but have lost hope 4 him to be honest..hope he really proves me wrong because hes such a great talent..

In terms of Bangladesh Cricket, it will be Javed Omar.

In my native West Indies, the bias is much worse because we are all from different countries, it is rare to find a West Indies fan willing to back a player or even a team who is of a different nation.

I do not, did not, and never will blame anyone for their bias. Doing so will be against human nature.

I agree with all you said here..im actually kind of like that 2..i feel like players that dont get enough love should get more support..imrul isnt very popular here but i really like this guy..agree fully though he should not be in tests but in ODIs however hes a good player..a hard working player who has come a long way 2 becoming a good solid player 4 us..ive liked zunaed always..thought the kid has the talent 2 be a good batsman..has failed 2 live it up in ODIs but in tests hes turning out 2 be a solid batsman..i think hes gonna stay in the team 4 years 2 come..of course a lot of people dogged on rock here so i really wanted 2 defend him..hes a player we really need and also i really liked his mentality as well in the interview..hes a gritty type of player that can stick out a long innings..now he is gonna be even more unpopular because of what hes done but i think hes gonna come back strong and bat well..the kid is a class batsman and in the future he will be a star batsman 4 us..

I may be paranoid but I sense this weird paradigm that all the bc mollahs are against Ash. Is it because he falls under typical Islamic/bangla judgement of:

-beshi praise payiaa mathay uthse
-he is arrogant or cocky which is an anathema because you are not supposed to stomp your feet on the ground haughtily
-Ash is sort of a womanizer
-etecetera similar stereotypes and judgements

If the bias is AGAINST him because of all these judging of a person and his character then you know what to all the Ash haters.. YOU CAN ALL GO TO HELL! And this gives me more the pleasure to continue supporting him....

In that case I hope he stays that damn arrogant sonofawic that he is and keeps on giving all ya haters the moddhom finger.

Yes he has many technical faults, but who doesn't? He is in a very bad slump and although removing him has done good but to constantly gang up on him just because the onus should be on him to score 100 runs every innings making it seem like scoring that is a mundane affair like getting milk carton from k-mart or else he is a big failure...then it really shows the juvenile nature of you haters.

I fully echo Sister Zainab's sentinment that in this time he needs our support even more. Talent doesn't come to all everyday. It's nurture not neglect that he needs.

Sh-t if I was Ash and if I retired now at least I'd have the last laugh knowing that I achieved more for my country than all yer sorry donkeys could do in your entire lifetime.
