I think it's not right to open a match thread for our next to next game. We should have just waited for the Pak game to finish. Also there is still 6 days to the game. I think it's a bit too premature.

This is absurd really. We haven't finished a match and here some newbie opened a match thread for the one after. It's really getting out of hand now. And don't talk as if this thread is owned by you. Opening a thread doesn't entitle one to get a stake on that specific cyberspace. It is used by all and therefore you must exhibit some decency if you wish to get along with the rest of us. I propose that this thread be locked up until the first match is finished, like it was done before.

^^ I agree with Tonoy bhai. nothing against you purna didi but everyone was hating on nadim when he started reserving match threads early in advance. we already have enough threads leading up to the game, so lets leave the match thread until it gets closer to the game maybe a day or two in advance.

zimbabwe shows us that both our opponents are beatable. well may be it was pracitice matches but still we can take heart from it.both the teams will have some nerves coming into the match agaianst us and the defeat against zimbabwe will play into their minds.

though zimbabwe have some good spinners who dont bowl legside and short balls often thata helps them to defend scores in slow and low pitches. will our spinners be able to bowl tidily ???

On a serious note, I am actually looking forward to them Aussie bowlers. Due to lack of series between us and them haven't got chance to watch their bowlers actually. Wonder if the barrier of 160 can be broken again. Prepare for some gore. It will get ugly. Today they pounded Windward Isles by 101 runs.

We need them to win or lose very badly so that their NRR gets raped. And then we need to win this one obviously.

My XI:
Tamim
Mushy+
Ashraful
Shakib
Riyad
Aftab
Naeem
Mashrafe
Shafiul
Razzak/Rasel

Imrul won't be able to handle the pace. So no point in playing him. Razzak bowled a really good over at the end. I am torn between him and Rasel.

pace wouldnt be a problem UNLESS it seams around and does stuff. the pitch isnt too pace friendly and my expectation is that the extra pace might help players like tamim and riyad as they are better players of pace attack. But back of the mind i know its wishful thinking and im really underestimating aussie pace attack. They are really good in pace business.

i didnt at all think pak bowling did the trick. Although amer was good but overall it was sort of OK. They had a good total on board and they just did enough to defend it. The turning point was shakibs wicket. Thats what cost us the match towards the end.

At the point when we needed 50 off 30, it was a mental game. No side could afford to break. Had Pak bowlers panicked, our job would have been a lot easier. Now one doesn't need a screaming inswinging yorker at that stage, a dot ball can do almost equal damage. Sami refused to yield, so Shakib had to take risk. That was the point when we lost the plot. If we had a Pollard coming after Shakib, though, it would have been another scenario entirely. Ultimately we have to rue the lack of big hitter down the order.

so basically youre sayng given the same bowling attack, if pollard had come in after shakib during that stage we had a chance ? You just proved my point then.
Plus i dont think shakib got out because sami and co was firing in remarkable good line and length but because he was tired and didnt time it well. their bowling was fair not remarkable.

Let's spare the selectors on this one, really!!! How would the selectors know that a seemingly proven/veteran SLA bowler bowl aiming the leg stumps?? But saying that I wonder if Mashrafee is ready yet to bowl at his best. If not, why not wait and play somebody who is truly match fit? We all wish and pray that Mash is playing but it does no good if he cannot contribute the way he himsel would like to. Hopefully he just was off-color in the first match and be much better in the next one. God knows how desperately we need few good opening overs from our bowlers.

How about the wicketkeeper open the innings with Tamim? Be it Mushy or Omi? It will open up one slot in the playing eleven for ????? Aftab, Rasel? And why Shuvo, how will he contribute?? With bat, or with ball? I don't think with either at least not yet!

And on Mushfique, many grammatically correct batsmen have opted to open the batting in T20, probably because they get that extra 2 overs to settle in or for whatever reasons. [Jack Kallis, Dravid, M. Vijay, Jayawerdene, Tendulkar etc] So I think Mushfique may be given a go in the opening slot, plus if we are using Imrul as an anchor to go with Tamim, don't you think Mushy would make a better anchor than Imrul?

You forgot about the man who revolutionized it. Mr Kallis. That man was dropped from SA T20 team, and he went to IPL and opened the batting and showed what he got. Aftar that, every 1 was like, hey thats not a bad idea, lets open with Mahela, Vijay, Laxman, Dravid, all that slow guys

Bhai it's an awesome format and in future this will dominate mostly in cricket, we just suck at this format, hurts i know. Trust me Ash is going to thrash the Aussies then T20 will be your favorite format.

P.S - Dilscoop, you should open more threads man, fantastic job.

Good to have a break.

It's still 3 days to go for the Tigers to counter the Aussie.

Shafiul was good with his bowling. Mash was right on money. Looks like he is regaining his 100%. Ash and Shak also shown their class. Tamim missed the party due to probably his injoury. I Hope whinin these 3 days he would be re-shaped again.

Reality is we have only 4 batsmen who are capable to bat according to T20 demand. Ash, Shak, Tamim and Aftab. Rest are just filling spots. Big Z was a good clean striker of the ball. Why he is not in the team it's a mystery.

Back in old days I was always wondering while watching UAE or Kenya playing. There were always some players who used to bat at lower order and didn't bowl too. I was searching for the answer why they are in the team?

At present we are also having the same thing in the Tigers lineup. There are always some players who have nothing to do due to the format of the game. It's not their fault rather it's the selectors to blame. The selectors just don't have any idea whom to select whom to reject.

Australians succumb to the slow bowlers, we have seen it in the past when they were destroyed by the Sri Lankan slow bowlers in the ICC CT in 2002. Their opener Warner is not good at slow bowling but he fires he gets pace. Most of them like the pace of the ball.

Changes:

Rasel must come in as Aftab should. Razzak and Shuvo (or some one else) must be left out. We badly need a win to give a good answer to our critics.

We need to think seriously about Imrul. He has not been comfortable at all against quality bowling and if he is left out then we need to re-arrange our batting order.

It starts at 6pm BST, 14.30 is local time (WI).

For this match I would drop imrul and have Ash open with tamim. Shakib can come in at 3 with Naeem (that's right, naeem, not mushfiq or mahmudullah) at no 4.

I'd also be tempted to drop Shuvo and replace him with aftab, who's medium pace will probably be more handy than Shuvo's underdevloped off breaks...

It wasn't Sami, but it was Aamer. That guy was simply amazing. 16 runs in 4 overs...what accuracy. I just wish Mash could learn something from this guy.

Our bowling was toothless. It was just a shame watching such bowling. Before it was our bowlers who used to give our batsmen the lead. Now it's our batsmen who are slowly becoming competent, but the bowlers are losing it.

Sakib bowled extremely bad. Shafiul's last over was good. Other than that, everyone else sucked.

I did not even know that there was so much love for Pakistan hidden deep in my heart!
Hope they will not disappoint this secret lover!

We lost yesterday because of pretty ordinary bowling performance. Our bowling attack was pretty much toothless. Mash who is suppose to be one of our best bowlers gave away too many runs. Razzak was also ineffective. Overall we failed in the bowling department and as a result allowed Pakistan to score way too many runs which I am afraid our batsmen were simply not capable of scoring. We really need to tighten our bowling if we are to beat Australia tomorrow.

It's can truly be an uneven contest the other way around. The cat can be doomed if that little rat carries rabbies with it!!

I expressed my love for Pakistan, but they conceeded 191runs!
It is like my dream girl putting on 191 pounds of weight---no love for fat girls!
Now I hope Pakistan goes down really really big.

haha... Although that analogy doesnt work because the rat dies either way. But I guess its better if we both go down :umm:

btw, are you suggesting we infect our players with rabies?

really? I would have thought in order to go thr' we will not only have to beat the Aussies which is unlikely but beat them with big margin which is extremely unlikely. Besides, Bangladesh was targetting Pakistan to beat, we are not even thinking of the Aussies.

It gonna be tight, were gonna have to win w/ about 1 over to spare or win about 10 runs

We have to win Australia by atleast 9 runs if we bat first.
If we bat second then we have to maintain 0.45rr superiority than Aus

I cant really corroborate whether the margin is 25 and over, but I know that we dont have to beat them too soundly. It'll be a three way tie with NRR being the deciding factor.

As far as I know, if we beat Aus by even one run, we should be able to edge Pak as they lost to Aus by more than we lost to them by...

EDIT: Disregard what I've said, because I'm assuming Rafi and cricman know more about the subject than me...

And if we are chasing?

cricman
May 2, 2010, 04:05 PM
And if we are chasing?

Win by 5 balls to spare

So it's win by 9 runs (8 runs would make us tied with Pak in NRR and they'd advance) or with by 5 balls to spare

Zeeshan

^ In that case in my lay opinion I'd say if we win the toss it's better we chase.

or with by 5 balls to spare
I think that will be depended on targets set by Aus. If they scored 120 then a win by 5 balls to spare would not be enough.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 21 runs
Australia defeated Pakistan by 34 runs

if Bangladesh lose or the match is tied Pakistan will advance to the next round

Bangladesh is in -21 now and Pak are -13

Bangladesh Points are: -1.050
Pakistan: -0.325

if Bangladesh wishes to quality they will have to defeat Australia with at least 14 runs

Russell2k7

Basically if we chasing then we need to keep AUS within 160 to have a chance. But all these equations won't matter if we get pummeled by the Kangaroos.

EDIT:

Chasing 200: 19.2
Chasing 161: 19.1

I guess the point you missed is:
19.1 over = 19.16667 over
19.2 over = 19.33333 over
19.3 over = 19.50000 over
19.4 over = 19.66667 over
19.5 over = 19.83333 over
19.6 over = 20.00000 over

If you consider the above,
Chasing 200: 19.1 overs (19.16667)
Chasing 160: 19.0 overs (19.00000)
Chasing 100: 18.5 overs (18.83333)

This is the same ground where we played England in last world cup. I remember, England casued trouble for most of our then top order batsman with short pitch ball.
This is a bouncy pitch....so players with inability to handle short-pitch balls should nnot be in the top order. That makes Jahirul a prime candidate for batting order promotion. Last time I saw Imrul, he was not that comfortable with short pitch balls. So his position as an opener should be reconsidered. How is Aftab in dealing fast short-pitch balls?

Pace has never been a problem for Aftab and he always looks at ease whether it's short pitched or pitched up. It's the brain that he lacks but I still want him in the end. atleast he is capable unlike Imrul who can't qualify as an Australian number 9.

This game now reminds me of the SriLanka game in the 2009 tri series, not only did we need to beat them, we needed to win a very large margin. Thanks to Australia, we don't need to win by a large margin, just a win should do. Let's see if the tigers have enough fight in them to pull this one. I think they do, hopefully the players think the same!

Things need to be done if we want to win this game:
1.Sakib should open bowling with Shafiul. Or else two W's will hammer oue pacers like they did to Sami,Aamir.
2.Riad should be given chance instead of nayeem.Razzaq,Riad, mashrafee in the middle overs needs to bowl by varying speed,of the ball..
3.Watson,Warner must be out before 5 ovrs.
4.Australia must be restricted to 155/160 if they bat first .
5.If we bat first,we have to score minimum 50 runs in powerplay, also not to loose more than 1 wkt. We have to get atleast 170.
6.Aftab should be given chance instead of Kayes in the opening.Left-Right combination can cause prb in line, length of Aussie bowlers.
7.Sakib & Ash needs to deliver it again.
8.Nayeem,Riad,Johurul/Suvo cant play like ODI.They must show the selectors, why they are in this team.
Sounds like dream...but dont forget We are the boys of that nation where Salam,Barkat,Rafique,Jabbar sacrificed their lives for mother tongue...that nation which sacrificed 30 lacs lives to achieve freedom..we are Bangladeshis...we can do this.:fanflag:

Realisticaly speaking, #4 and 5 looks like a fantasy (seeing how we lost so many wicket chasing 50 runs with 8 wicket remaining against PAK). I think it would also be wise to let AFTAB play the match this time. If the 2 W's gets out within the first 5 overs we might be able to restrict them to a resonable score but then again all of their batsman till Johonson is a power SLOGGER!

Well, Aussies might not go full throttle, they are already almost guaranteed a place[unless to lose to BD by 60 runs or something]. And this my friends, is the chance we have to take, we must snatch every half chance we get and make sure we win this one. They may have players with big, huge names. But it's not the reputation that plays the game, its the players. I believe we can pull this one off! Joy Bangla, Bangladesh Jindabad

Guyz, please gain attention to this thread, I think winning an ICC Trophy is utmost important for our team, for our country.

If we do, think of what would happen:

1) Our players, both national and domestics will be very highly paid
2) We would have a more organized domestic structure
3) We could hire better team management members, for A and Academy team as well
4) There would be more stadiums throughout the country
5) Our players would get chance in foreign tournaments
6) Cricket would be more popular, and our people would focus more on cricket than EPL stuffs

its funny some people on here are saying "australia might not give their all in this match just to knock pakistan out" you're forgetting this is T20, australia already facing embarassment of losing to minnows zimbabwe even though it was a warm up game...im sure they wouldnt like to repeat it again

australia arent guaranteed a place in the super 8s yet and cant afford to lose this as much as the tigers, lets say if australia goes into the game with a losing attitude and do lose but by a bigger margin ie 47 runs or more, this would knock themselves out based on NRR, it would make them look like fools...

For Oz to be knocked out they would need to lose by 47 runs or a net RR of -2.4 which is extremely unlikely.

I don't think anyone expects Australia to approach this game as an opportunity to eliminate PAK but moreso a relaxed attitude knowing that barring a major meltdown their place in the next round is already secured.

They can, however, chose their 2nd round opponents if they want:

If PAK is eliminated : SA, ENG, NZ or if BD is eliminated SL, WI & IND

i dont think they'll be any relaxation in their apporach, it has happend to them before rewind back to the first t20 world cup in 07, they took zimbabwe lighlty and ended up losing with all the humiliation, happend again just last week although it was a warm up game...

a "relaxed attitude" could back fire and bite em in the a**, especially in the 20/20 format, and losing to bangladesh would be another humiliation (could be the first of the tournament if it does happen) and could hurt their confidence moving ahead in the tournament...

as for chosing their opponents for the super 8s, i dont think they'll care who they face...with the batting power/bowling attack they possess they can defeat anyone of those teams

i mentioned this before the t20 world cup, ruzzak n rubel will make u lose. this is wat is happening. razzak is a prdictable bowlar now, his tricks don't work any more. rasel would be a good option since we don't any other choice. i would have had nazmul if he was in the squad.

after changing his action it looks like international players find it very easy to attack him and also he himself helps the batsman by offering legside line and full tosses

Ok this post is just for the sake of my curiosity. I was not sure on which thread to post my comment on nor did i want to open a new thread so I'll post it in this one ...

Lets say that Aus decided to throw the match away to us then we would need to beat them by 8-24 runs (if my calculation was incorrect please do provide the correct calculation) or chase it down by 19.1 over to knock PAK out of the competition and keep AUS alive. Realistically speaking, AUS would benifit more if BD ends up in the next round instead of PAK because they have a higher chance to knock the stuffing out of us in a fair game later on in the stage than PAK. Call me NAIVE but this looks like a very DEVIOUS plan when one thinks toward the future to take the cup ...

What's your opinion on this matter?

If you dont know, the team is concentrating more on the England tour rather than the T20 WC and to kind of think of it, going to the 2nd round in such an event is more than whitewashing a good team

lol you're funny, this isnt street cricket, these are professional athletes and they're paid to win, i made a response to comment like yours earlier australia would never take chance and "throw the match" just in the spite of knocking pakistan out? it could very well back fire and what if they lose by more then they caculated for? ie 47 runs or in 16 overs? this would eliminate themselves out of the super eights based on the NRR

besides the'ye already lost to zimbabwe in the t20 in south africa and more recently in a warm up game, having to face all the embarssment, the last thing the aussies would want is a another loss to bangladesh and be humiliated with the first upset of the tournament...

All these calculations of the victory margin will end up fruitless. The duckworth lewis method is going to come in and ruin everything. I'm not complaining. We have a better chance of winning in a shortened match. If a repeat of WI-Eng happens, with us in WI's position, we're all but certain to make the super 8s...

I just hope it doesnt get washed out completely, which would mean Pak and Aus go through (with 2 and 3 points respectively)...

What dreamers here! With the big hitters and the best bowlers inthe Aussie team, not to mention fielding, how can BD even dream of defeating them by 14 runs? Let's hope that they better England's score of 120 against the Irish today, I will be happy with that, and a lot of supporters would not be too angry.
The best shot BD had was to beat pakistan and they failed, so they have to go down fighting, pack their bags, go to England and play some good cricket for a month.

Who Said Tamim Isn't playing?

Utpal Shuvro in Prothom-Alo report.
Tamim felt pain during the pakistan match and he does not want to take any risk.
Imrul and Ashraful will open and Aftab will come in the team in place of Tamim.
Also Rubel will replace Shuvo.

Tamim is not playing--may be he does not want to take any risk in a match that they think is near to meaningless match (I guess). It appears from the report that the team has a wrong idea about the run rate situation---they apparently think the situation is near to mathematical impossibility.

Does anyone in BC have contact with the team management or any Bangladeshi journalist in WI? If so, someone needs to convey the correct message to them about NRR.

This WC is so phetatic. All the following matches are going to have rain. Ireland could have won today but the rain ruined it completely. Imagine what will happen to us tomorrow if we are sent to bat 2nd or infact no play. I rather we go out of tournament fighting then freaking rain kicking us out ... WI should stop holding WC matches around this time of the year ...

NRR.

Its better if he sits out. Don't worry the lad is only in his 20's so plenty of cricket left in him. No point of letting injury win the battle... Either way an injured player will just be a burden in the team.

What do you mean by usa time? usa does not have a single time zone. play will start at 1:00 PM local time which is same as EST. So if you are in NYC it will be at 1:00 PM or if you are in Dallas it will be at 12 noon if you are in denver, colorado it will be at 11 am or else if you are in LA it will be at 10 Am. Well, they did not say beating Aus by huge margin was the problem, they said the problem was beating Aus. Which seems very unlikely, specially considering the form Aus are in. But if I was the coach, i would tell them, this is the most important T20 match they will play in a long time, i would tell them i believe we can win it and try to go to the next round. But I think JS is just being realistic and concentrating on the much more important Eng series.

So if you are in NYC it will be at 1:00 PM or if you are in Dallas it will be at 12 noon if you are in denver, colorado it will be at 11 am or else if you are in LA it will be at 10 Am. Hope it helps.

thanks for your idea, but i mean, bangladeshi news paper saying game will be start bd time 7.30 p.m. so that means, it should start local time 9.30 a.m, not 1.oo p.m.

I checked cricinfo and 100% sure that match is scheduled at 1:00 PM local time which is 11:00 PM BDT.

i read BD needs to beat Aus by more than 8 runs (if bat first) or chase by 19 overs (if bats second) assuming Aus wont score more than 160 odds. So if we fans can calculate required NRR to go through next round, why is the team management in dark about NRR ? Every time they are saying, we need to beat Aus by huge margin but tht is not the case ! Do they really know how to calculate NRR or anything about D/L method ! Our players may be brainless or illiterate but what about our System Analyst, Coach or Asst Coach !?? :@
