Not everyone is Viv Richards or Javed Omar (no pun intended). :) There are many greats who found it difficult to tour England. Some had many county experiences yet couldn't find it a smooth going. Not to mention coping in the early summer weather. Always difficult to play at England. I think our boys did an excellent job overall in this away ODI series. I would compare few among the many greats that I followed who had trouble at England despite their vast experience in playing in English conditions.

Well, the averages has to be taken in context. Playing for defeat with a boost in average means nothing. For e.g., Riyad averages 35, but those runs came when we were playing for Sommanjonok porajoy. Another point is the sample number. Those greats have played much more innings and still avearged in high 30's.

These are good stats but nothing to be excited about or to be compared with the greats.

Very unfair comparison.

Those greats have played so many games in England but our idiots only a few except Ash (he played 7/8 games).

It would be nice if you add the number of games each played. :)

Unfortunately we won't have the luxury to compare after many games, unless you want to revisit this 20 years after, but in 20 years it will be about time that some of their kids get into the national side... So we will probably will have to be satisfied with this comparison..

Its a matter of great shame that we are not touring england until 2010. a real shame!! BCB should do something about this.

Pakistan at Lords in 2010 and Bangladesh at Lords in 10 would be another fair comparison.

the greats haven't really struggled, just performed below par for their own standards. because even after all this most of them have avg same or higher than the BD top3. all except hayden and I don't consider hayden great or watson either.

Lol exactly! That's the whole point of an average. Another point to be noted, our boys played against what may possibly be the strongest limited-overs England side ever.

Dear Al,
Three zeros were right on the money. That is why I included Hayden 18 and Shane Watson's 28 average stat.

The mystery is why the greats mentioned could not concur England they way they did others?

Definitely our boys average will rise, whereas, the greats average would not go up. I am not saying our boys are better than the greats. It is just they didn't do that bad as being potrayed in so many other threads.

Tackling difficult conditions is not easy.

It means Tamim and Shakib are our only greats .... :-D

I would compare [B]few among the many greats that I followed who had trouble at England despite their vast experience in playing in English conditions.

1) No offense to OP, but you need a course in elementary stats.
I have no clue what this has to do with the topic? Offensive posts are just that, offensive. If you think you are posting an offensive post then don't bother typing "no offense". I agree, I don't have the vocabulary and English background to make you understand what I'm trying to say here.
2) How does avg of 40 a struggle in England?Where was that comments made? Reading is fundamental. You have a creative mind. Making up things from thin air is similar to lying no matter how one sugercoats it.

I have no clue what this has to do with the topic? Offensive posts are just that, offensive. If you think you are posting an offensive post then don't bother typing "no offense". I agree, I don't have the vocabulary and English background to make you understand what I'm trying to say here.
All right sorry don't take that comment too seriously.

Where was that comments made? Reading is fundamental. You have a creative mind. Making up things from thin air is similar to lying no matter how one sugercoats it.
In your opening post. In fact that's what the thread is about. You could've included Graeme Smith instead of Tendulkar. And why didnt you include Raqibul Hasan who has avg of 76 against ENG in ENG?

..

The thread title says "England's away ODI tour batting summary (stats)"
It is not essential to illustrate statistics of all greats in such summary thread. For example, he also excluded likes of Javed Miandad, Gavaskar et al irrespective of their stats.

Furthermore, Roqibul played only 1 odi, therefore, his statistics has no significant relevance. For example, the England football manager recently rated the performance of his squad members but he refused to rate number of players who had played little part, i.e Peter Crouch (played approximately 67 mins).

However, it would have been fair to include Roqibul's stats because Mushi's stats have been included despite he played only 1 odi.

TE,
this is what I call abuse of Statistics. I myself do this kind of things. There is an excellent book named how to lie with statistics available in most of the academic library of the USA. You can not simply compare a 40+ average with that of 20+ average and on the basis of it improvement. If I were you, I would have put difference as % not raw number. Thus you could conclude Junaed performed 139% better than his career where as Tendy performed 88% worse than his career. But the missing point is tendy's worse is still 7.5 run better than Junaid's best. Anyway if you want to glorify our stat compare to the other cricketer than happy. I hope JS could your this as evidence we are improving or Tendy, Lara, Ponting has highest score 0f 54 where as three of my posse has higher score than that. I would conclude by quoting this

No kidding, but don't you think it makes sense to include Smith rather than Tendy who basically hammered England in England just as bad as his other opposition?

Precisely he played 1 ODI, and you think that 3 ODI somehow has more significance? Yes he included Mushys innings but did not include Raqibul's. I wonder why?

Why didn't I put up Smith and others has none of your concern. If you wish to put up their stats then put it up and prove that English conditions are easy as breeze. Jottoshob.

Point well noted and agreed. However, that is not what I wanted say!!

I wanted to compare generally that the great players I saw time to time struggled (which means played below their potential in English conditions despite having more experience of playing in such conditions). On the other hand, without a single county contracted player our players did perform better than expected (their average). I wasn't comparing our players with the greats one on one. My point was they didn't perform that bad. Adapting foreign conditions is not easy.

As just for argument sake can you do an analysis on GG, Matty Hayden or Watson? Thanks.

Pathetic, may be. But misleading? You think all conditions are very adaptable by all players, great and not so great ones?

One can see the glass half empty. And at times I do see see it that way on certain issues. This time I am trying to see it half full. Just different angle and nothing MISLEADING. Again, it is my shortcoming that I couldn't make you all understand what i was trying to say.

@ tiger bhaia....the reason I thot it doesnt give the readers a vivid idea s becoz the number of games played iznt included. Where Tendulkar, dada and the likes may have played 25+ games in Eng...our players (most of the ones mentioned here) have nly played 4-5 ( foe few this was the first time there). Therefore, let 'em play that many matches, then we can conclude wheather or not they are better than the greats in a particular condition. If that was not the case, Rakibul and others here would be on top!!

I am concluding nothing. I had an observation that our players performed not so bad as they were being potrayed by many in other threads. 30+ average in a series at England is not bad. I have been following cricket before BD started playing meaningful cricket. Supported subcontinent teams while BBC radio use to broadcast. I know for the fact it is not easy to play early summer games at England for any foreign country. Most of them were packed with superstars anyways and even then. Do not get bogged down with the losses. Eventually the wins will come at our home conditions. NZ and WI, the unlucky teams.

OBSERVATION:

-The selection of statistical information was not biased, i.e, the thread poster has right to submit (freedom of expression) his preferred players for stats

- There was no unfairness, in that, players who performed well in England has been omitted from stats, i.e Smith, Roqibul et al. But the members have exercised their right to dispute those omission and facts; therefore, there was equal representation, equality of arms.

- It can not be said that these have led to misleading the audience, because the facts of dispute have been established by the members and the audience are alerted, therefore, no misleading occurred.

After beating England in England the luck is running out for most teams per se.
