With a world cup coming up bangladesh is set to lose all matches.
What is it 2 wins in 16 games.
Heads should roll.
New coach,new bowlers,some new batsmen.
Old heads should play in A series or domestic cricket simple as that.
Its just not working.

I humbly disagree as I think it would be a way too rash a move to go through with.

While I do agree with replacing the coach. However, we shouldnt be replacing the players as that would be suicidal, especially not the batsmen, perhaps bring in Nazimuddin instead of Imrul and find a new, better finisher, or experiment and tinker a little with the batting order. But I dont think we need to replace any of the batsmen in the team, its much better to make them bat where it suits them best.

However, we do desperately needs bowlers like a replacement for Razzak, back-up fast-bowlers, genuinly fast pacers, work with Rubel and Shafiul and make them bowl at better line and lengths so they leak alot less runs and become kmore economicaql, in other words polish what resource we already have.

IMO, here's what we need ---

1. Head Coach -----who will be someone tactically very sharp and a good strategist and will be willing to swap the order around according to changing match situations, and above all will have to have a positive mentality and be able to instill blood-lust in the tigers as we seemed to have lost the fire that used to drive us. I believe, we no longer need a Head Coach who would have to teach the batsmen how to bat or teach the bowlers how to bowl as Siddons really has created a genuine core of good batsmen who are techniqally quite good and capable.

So now we need an innovative coach like Bob Woolmer, John Bucanon, Andy Flower or even Whatmore(who didnt have quality players to work with in his time but now the case is different as he has a core group of quality batsmen to plan his strategies around). The Head Coach will also have to be able to work in synchro and as a team with his bowling and fielding coaches, and keep an eye out at local leagues and players. Also will needd to be a "people person" and be good at handling media, and needs to openly state what he intends to do. The coach needs to stop the players for only boosting their own averages and make them aware that cricket is a team game and the team comes first.

2. Bowling Coach --- We desperately need a good fast-bowling coach, who would be able to see the flaws in our pacers, as well as recognise their strengths, encourage bowlers to maintain discipline while bowling, teach them how to use their brains and find a batman's weakness, teach them deatover bowling, bring more control, and if possible find new talented bowlers and polish them.

I would want someone like Aqib Javed, Pollock, Walsh,Wasim Akram or Andy Roberts. Someone who has had alot of international experience, exposure and has bowled in different conditions. And please we need someone who was known as a bowler, not anymore "NO-Names" and no more of this temporay crap, as we need someone for a longer term and more permanent

3 Fielding Coach -- Someone who would teach them, train them and above all make them feel that fielding needs to be enjoyed and the coach needs to be there for a long-term and not just on a temporary basis. (this is from personal experience, I used to stay back after team practices and keep my little brother and make him throw balls at the roller or a wall to make them reflect back at me from hard-to-guess different angles to increase my reaction times and I used to love fielding) But when I see the bangladesh players it seems like none of them actually enjoy fielding and its one of those things in cricket that you dont really need to have a talent for.

Everyone can become a more than decent fielder if they try hard enough, irrespective of their stature, I know it from experience but what seperates and excellent fielder from a decent one is god-gifted physical abilities like hand-eye cordinatioan and strength but nonetheless everyone can become an above-average fielder with enough training and enthusiasm, if not an excellent one.

The South African team under Cronje or the Srib Lankan team under Ranatunga is a good example or even the Zimbawean team under Heath Streak were a good fielding team. I mean even our past team had some players who looked like they enjoyed fielding or were hungry to improve like Alok Kapali (before he grew fat), Rajin Saleh, Javed Omar (he was good at diving forward to take catches and throwing) but the present team is filled with players whose bodylanguage say they dont wanna be out there.

4 . Batting Coach --- This position isnt really a necessity anymore but if possible I would prefer Siddons to continue working with the batsmen as their batting coach or have someone like Jonty Rhodes who was good one-day specialist batsman and good at rotating strikes. But I believe we really shouldnt let go of Siddons if he wants to stay on, because he should be really useful as the academy batting coach and would ensure us a future generation of techniqally good batsmen for years to come

5. Finishers --- We desperately need some big hitters, to end the game, someone who wont be selfish or worry about averages. Someone like Klusenar, Moin Khan. I believe Ashraful could be groomed to be a good finisher with proper guidance and proper orders like letting him play with complete freedom as Tamim does at the top. I mean even Rafique was a better finisher than Mahamudullah

6 Bowlers -- A genuine Fast Bowler, a good spinner to support Shakib, if possible, I would prefer a leggie or a good off-spinner over just another ordinary left-armer.

Sorry for the very long post

Ya, take a 15 years project of buying Sperm of the great players of the world, make test tube babies, employ a coach from age 4 (Nursery) or direct feeder to Bat/Ball in case of carribean breeds. :) 15 years project, not that long. One year production time and next 14 years to make a debut at the age of around 14, like some greats have done. We will have all greats in one team. Now we can have a breeding plan and which origin should we use for which position.

Man, just because a coach couldn't deliver, we started undermining our own abilities. I didn't know that people were expecting miracles from JS and got it in the opposite direction. What were your basis of such blind expectqation, just because he was Australian? or you thought he was the architect of that great australian team? Man, he was just helping the players in practice by throwing ball, not teaching anything. I wish he just did that instead of talking and trying to make strategies... he never had any experience in life of doing these things.

Infact 2 years back we had discussions in BC, I and a couple of others were predicting these oucomes since his attitude and approach were all weird and beyond all conventional wisdom of cricket, but most of the people wanted to give him at least an year before any conclusions, but it was all quiet for 2 years and 8 months. Now you can see where we are going. Some good performances do come and will come when the opponents mess it up or players play out of teaching when they are stuck with the wall.

JS can't be credited for that. Not a single of his policy is workable. But don't worry, When a new coach comes, it may take a little bit time but it will be ok. I have faith in our players, they just need to be guided in the right direction, they will look different. I'm thankful to the unrecognize people at the domestic levels, who have provided us with some reasonaly good guys amidst all the short comings of our facilities & infrastructure. Have faith guys

BCB has alot of money but they spend it on officials accompanying the team abroad or on corruption or on useless stuff. And its not like we didnt have that many coaches. I mean we had a bowling coach (Champaka), a fielding coach (Slauddin) working not too long ago. Also even the ICC and the ACC are providing some funds. But its spent on filling Lotus' protruding belly.

If a zimbawean club team can hire Jason Gillespie as a bowling coach, surely the Bangladesh National team can afford to have a bowling coach?

@BANFAN, atleast give credit where its due. JS did work on our batsmen and its really a fact that the batsmen who listened to him doesnt have puny averages like Aftab or Ashraful, atleast the stats look better on TV when they show up and I dont have to hide in shame. I m a neutral, so neither an Anti or Pro but I atleast acknowledge how Sidoons' worked with our batsmen and worked on their weaknesses. Imrul and Junaid are a living proof, they learnt how to handle the short ball, for instance (not that I m a big fan of Imrul..mind you as I prefer Nazimuddin to have his chance but the fact is Imrul has been scoring runs)

Last thing we need is to change the players. We all know how feeble our domestic structure is, and most of our players are still riding the learning curve when they start playing international cricket. And the current bunch has some very good cricketers and if given time should be a very competitive unit. I am not saying everyone is a match winner, but we have all seen that these guys are capable of making inroads in international matches more often than not.
bringing in new guys will leave us as a "young team" forever and we will always be hoping for a better future. I say lets stick to the current bunch for the time being, dropping them would mean throwing away all the money/time spent on them.
And if we are to become a winning team, we need a change in attitude. Our players must show the determination to win which they showed against England in the 2nd ODI. If same level of intensity can be kept at a constant basis, we would beat G8 teams thrice out of 10 games.

that is a good observation Dilscoop; this next Domestic tournament we have will be a crucial one for sure because people like Shuvogoto Hom, Shahriar Nafees, Shuvo, and possibly Nazimuddin are a couple of NCL centuries/a coupleof 5+ wicket hauls away from a national call up. the next domestic season willl determine which players get selected for the world cup, at home!

of course, guys like Naeem will also be working hard for his own sake too to come back to the national team as a batsmen!
