sounds good...asides from this neutral venues crap.

national teamers should also get to play the 2nd half of the season.

8 FC matches for each team, sounds like a fair number of matches.

i like that the final is a 5-day match like the FC leagues in most other countries.

we have 8 teams :P?? And bro, I think the bottom 2 teams will get 5 games
I also think the first round should be home an away[i.e. 10 games per team] and then the round 2 and final format should be as it is.

The more longer version matches the better it is for players, BUT -

If these matches are played in neutral venues and if BCB continues to do so, how they are going to attract crowd? If there is no crowd, there is no interest and the result is, lack of competition. How interesting it is for Sylhet people to watch Rajshahi vs Khulna match?

Also wondering about the quality of pitches outside Dhaka. It is a problem since NCL launched and not fixed after years!!

Mo vai, could you arrange a prediction game for NCL like Worce Forum Prediction game. It will be great fun.

Good idea. Only problem is, in WCCC forum they were only predicting 1st innings total score, top run scorer and top wicket taker for Worcestershire only. We can modified their idea so that we can predict for all six NCL team. But if we make it to complicated than some people wont join. And instead of going for the whole season we should only do it for phase 1 of NCL only. If it goes well and people like it than we can try for DPL also.

For Example for round 1. Predict for first innings only for each game. You will pick Top scorer and top wicket taker from both team. You will also pick reserve batsmen/bowler just incase in last second before the game starts your main player is rested/injured having a reserve gives you another chance. please see example below reserve player in bracket.. You only score for your main selection.

Date Match Venue
29 Sept. - 02 Oct. 2010 Rajshahi v Sylhet Shamsul Huda Stadium, Jessore (SHS)

Top run scorer Rajshahi: Farhad Hussain (Pilot)
Top wkt taker Rajshahi: Saqlain Sajib (Shazada)
Top run scorer Sylhet: Rajin (Alok)
Top wkt taker Sylhet: Enamul (Saju Dutta)

And you do the same for each game. Now every round there are 3 games if it is too much too predict all the game we can only predict 1 game from each round. We can decide which game to predict. e.g.

Round 1
29 Sept. - 02 Oct. 2010 Rajshahi v Sylhet ,Jessore

Round 2
05 - 08 October 2010 Chittagong v Khulna SKS, Rajshahi

Round 3
11 - 14 October 2010 Chittagong v Dhaka SKS, Rajshahi

Round 4

To be announced: To keep it interesting we will choose a game involving the league leader or important games

Round 5

TBA.

Points: You receive 5 points for each correct prediction and Zero for getting it wrong. So maximum points we can get is twenty (5 X 4 = 20) from each round.

Now lets see how many people are interested. Any idea is welcome.

It's a shame they get so little games.

They could've done 1st phase home and away so that everyone plays 10 times.

2nd phase round robin at neutral venues.

final contested between teams with most points at the end of both phases. Final to be held in dhaka.

That means everyone will play at least 10 times, 2 teams play 13 times and 2 teams play 14 times.

The downside is that 2 teams will play each other 4 times in a season but that's what you get with such little teams. I think in future they can create more teams and have a home and away format like county cricket.

Lastly they have to play the current format at home, it's ridiculous to play these matches on neutral grounds.

UNB, Dhaka

The 12th National Cricket League (longer version) will start on October 4 instead of September 29 as scheduled earlier.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) tournament committee in an e-mail message today (Saturday) said persistent rain and inclement weather across the country have rendered the league venues unfit for holding the matches.

The tournament committee will announce the revised itinerary of the league soon.

its really sad actually..by now we should have had way more triple centuries then just 1..forget about our domestic players..even most of the national team players don't have a double century to brag about..the real problem is temperament in our leagues and unfortunately only Roqibul could show the proper temperament to score 313*..what I thought was even more impressive was how he played 700+ balls..if our players just show more mental toughness then we could see more FC triple centuries..

thanks Miraz bhai..appreciate it..Ash scored a breezy century..hope he continues the good work..Hope Shuvagoto Hom and Anamul score centuries..Hom is such an impressive player..hope he continues to score centuries..who knows if he scores 4 centuries in the next 4-5 matches then we could possibly see him against Zimbabwe..Nazim continues to be a domestic bully..good that he keeps on scoring and getting the selectors to look stupid..he should have really been taken instead of SN..

Shuvagoto is a star. He is carrying on from where he left off last year. 81 from 161 and still unbeaten. For my money he is batting too low. He should be ahead of gadhas like Mehrab. Also great to see Anamul playing well. I didn't expect him to start. If he has a good season he can overtake Sahagir, Dhiman and Mithun as Mushy's understudy earlier than we expected.

And kudos to Ash. But I hope his fanboys don't start shouting for his immediate return. He needs to show consistency.

this thread needs to be a sticky...

was just talking to Sohel bhai...i wanna remind us all of the important thing about the NCL. its quality is "atrocious", but there is still some value. large individual innings have no meaning or merit, unless part of a pattern of consistent run scoring. it is the average that needs to be looked at, the number of 100s or 50s a batsman scores.

but at least the pipeline has given us Jahirul and Imrul...somewhat decent guys we can work with in teh absence of better players.

Too early. Let him play for a-team, academy team, club teams and divisional teams for another 2/3 years before selecting him for the National team.

I was going to respond to this comment with something like: if he's good enough then we should fast track him to the national team, but then I checked his profile and found out he is just 17 years old, same age as Asif Ahmed (actually according to cricinfo he is 1 day older than Asif) all this time I thought he was around 22 years old! In view of this, I completely agree with you that he should be given time to develop by going through the proper steps and only promoted when he shows he is above that level, same with Asif Ahmed. Hopefully in a couple years time these two will be atleast on the fringes of the first team, and should only makes their debuts in a home series, maybe against the like of Zimbabwe or Associates team. I think we are passed the days when we had to have 16 year olds making their debuts in the national team.

True..thats why scorecards can tell us only so much..was Rasel and Dolar pounded because of Ash's great batting? Or was it because of pure rubbish bowling by those 2..I'm assuming its a bit of both..I think Ash will win it but just pointing out that Shamsur should be a candidate as well for his 100 run partnerships with Ash and saving Dhaka's face in the 2nd innings playing a one man show..

The tournament committee yesterday postponed the ongoing 12th National Cricket League due to inclement weather and unfavourable forecast across the country for the next few days.
"As the venues won't be in playable condition and considering the importance of the next round of matches, we have no other option but to postpone the league for the time being," said committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain.
The committee will soon release a revised schedule for the remaining rounds

Ashraful's captaincy was also imaginative and he was not shy in taking the ball in his hand when others couldn't make inroads.

Sharif na Khulnar captain?
You mean Dhaka. And I thought so too. There is another error in the article as it suggests that it was Shuvagoto's maiden FC ton which is not the case.

So when does the NCL resume. Looking forward to another Shuvagoto special.

^^^ Yeah Dhaka I meant.

Btw, first phase of NCL is postponed to February. NCL ODI will be starting soon.

The shift to the NCL one-day schedule would mean the country's only first-class competition would be shunted back to February and March next year during the World Cup, when the second phase will also be held.

"We will try to fit it around the Bangladesh matches of the World Cup," said Gazi Ashraf Hossain, tournament committee chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Only reason they are suspending the NCL is because they are way behind in preparations for the World Cup and so need as many resources and as much money as possible. Weather is just an excuse...

Really poor decision...how is Ashraful and the like going to get match practice? How are we going to find another Tamim Iqbal for the World Cup this time around?

Agreed..weather seems like a lousy excuse..I was hoping ash could be consistent and prove himself b4 the WC..and also have shuvagoto prove himself again and get a shot in the zim series..but this is bd so wat do you expect haha

What is going on? It started yesterday and only Newagebd.com is the media source to provide some score after day 2.

While the entire country is engrossed in the World Cup, National Cricket League, the only first-class cricket competition of the country, resumed on Tuesday after a huge gap of five months amid runs galore in all three fixtures.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had postponed the four-day version of the league after the first round in October and instead completed the one-day version to facilitate the national players to prepare themselves for the World Cup.

Farhad Hossain starred on the first two days of the second round scoring a huge 186 runs to help his Rajshahi division declare their first inning on 434-9 against Barisal at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.

Farhad, who faced 376 balls and stayed more than seven hours at the crease, added 156 runs for the seventh wicket with Dhiman Ghosh, who also scored a century. Dhiman made 101 off 133 balls before being the last batsman out. At stumps on Day Two, Barisal made 132-2, still trailing Rajshahi by 302 runs.

At the Sylhet divisional stadium, Khulna declared their first innings on 359-9 riding on 114 from wicketkeeper-batsman Sahgir Hossain. Resuming at his overnight score of 100, Sahgir could add only 14 runs.

Chittagong are on course for a vital first innings lead after ending the second day’s play on 261-4. Foysal Hossain and Nazimuddin were unbeaten on 80 and 74 runs respectively adding 120 runs in their unbroken fifth-wicket stand.

Dhaka have already secured the lead against Sylhet ending the second day on 273-7 after their bowlers restricted Sylhet to 234 all out at the Rajshahi divisional stadium. Shamsur Rahman (61) Mehrab Hossain (63) and Shubhagata Hom (65) all made a half-century for Dhaka. Earlier, Imtiaz Hossain of Sylhet was out for 99.

Yes there are franchises for the 20-20 league, the first edition took place last year in May-June (I think). You must've missed. And there were foreign players as well.

But please realize that the 4 day league is far more important than the 20-20 league for our cricket's development.

Only 13 4s in an innings of 124*. And he still maintained a SR just below 70. This guy is FIT!!

I thought he scored 19 fours in his innings? Well either way the guy is a run machine. Hope he continues to score against the SA A team.

:notworthy:

Those batting average looks daunting and promising but the bowling table reveals the sorry state of our pace potentials. All of the bowlers are pretty much slow left arm or players who past their prime..
