Ticket goes digital
The Daily Star, October 3, 2010 (http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=156985)

The ticketing system goes digital for the five-match one-day series between Bangladesh and New Zealand to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from October 5.

“Ticket will be available in different outlets of Grameenphone and for the first time we have introduced an e-ticketing system which means that fans can now buy ticket through their mobiles. It is similar to how they buy tickets for train journey,” informed GS Hassan Tamim, chairman of the ticket and seating committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

BCB has printed less than half its capacity this time because of ongoing renovation work ahead of the 2011 World Cup.

Tamim informed that the official capacity of the stadium - which will host six World Cup matches including two quarterfinals - is 26,000-plus but the BCB have issued only 14,000 tickets for each match of which 2000-3000 will be complimentary.

"For the greater interest, we have to accept some difficulties for the coming series. We have allotted limited seats because there is a safety concern due to renovation work. But the series against Zimbabwe in December would be a dress rehearsal for World Cup,” said Tamim.

6000 gallery tickets have been allocated for each match and the price is fixed at Tk 25 while the price for VIP is Tk 1000, International Gallery Tk 200 and Club House (North and South) Tk 100.

Following the first ODI on October 5, the second, third, fourth and fifth matches are scheduled for October 8, October 11, October 14 and October 17 respectively.

Due to the cancellation of the two warm-up matches NZ were allowed to practice in the centre wicket where the first ODI will be played, this is the first time ever that a visiting team has been allowed to practice in the main pitch. Understandably NZ were very happy with it and they believe it will really help them in the series, what morons we have in BCB, simply no common sense whatsover!

NZ gave options either arranged a practice match in diff venue (other than BKSP) or get them a chance to practice in main wicket. I was shocked to find out that BCB officials can't find another ground to arrange another match.

WTF IS WRONG WITH EFFIN BCB?

When Bangladesh toured in New Zealand last year, did they allow BD to practice in the match-wicket because Bangladesh didnt have any practice matches prior to that test match? NO

Why does BCB put themselves down in the face of foreigners. They are a disgrace. APart from that, they are giving NZ an advantage.

Nonetheless, good luck to the Bangladeshi team

I'm going to be honest here - I despise the New Zealand team, and want them crushed and humiliated. I'm expecting a series win even without Tamim. As long as they stay positive and BELIEVE they can win, they will. Get in there boys. :flag:

Thanks for the important post. I guess a 3-2 win for NZ wont make significant changes in the ranking as well.
According to our current strength......4-1 for NZ is more likely...
But hope at-least 3(nz)-2
And....pray 3 (BD) - 2 (NZ) [imagination will cross the limit after 2015....inshallah]

Average and strike rate of current players who have 30+ avg:

Name: Innings // Avg // Strike rate
Imrul Kayes 22 // 30.50 // 67.03
Jahurul Islam 6 // 31.20 // 73.58
Mahmudullah 47 // 30.21 // 68.90
Raqibul Hasan 41 // 30.63 // 62.74
Shakib Al Hasan 90 // 32.86 // 75.75

Their average strike rate is 70. If you give 50 balls to each (5 players) = 250 balls, they will score 175 runs at 70 Strike rate.
Probably we will get another 50 runs from other 50 balls (with extra). Can we defend the total?

So, the total should be 175+50 = 225.

guys, dunt be dissapointed if we loose the series.
The coaches did not get enough time to work with the boys. Tamim is out and bunch of players are slightly injured. anything can happen.the squad might be,

Imrul
Nafees
Zunaid
Jahirul
Sakib
Mahmudullah
Mushy
Naeem
Mash
Razzaq
Shafi
12th Rubel

I dunt see why we should play with 3 pacers as Mash mentioned and the history of this ground, and the weather, this track is not built for speed. Shafi and Mash will do good with their swing but thats it. I would take Naeem who can slog and is a better bowler than Mahmudullah.

I agree with you bro..SN should not be the XI in my opinion..Naeem or Shuvo should've been in the squad instead..Naeem is 1 of our best bowlers against the top 8 and can bat really well on his day..also its time to put Shuvo to the test..having 8 batsmen is really pointless..

His ODI career is over IMO...coz their r plenty of spinners on the pipeline just waiting to get the chance(Nur, Mahmudul, Shaker, Sanjamul, Shuvo...) ...

Yeah, we need more bowlers in our squad. Most of our bowlers can bat as good as our middle order batsmen

WTF is wrong with our batsmen? SHakib and Riyad looked like they were in the form of their
life batting wise and but they sucked against England. I hope these two bounce back.

Whatever happened to Chokka Naeem. He used to be really good with both the bat and the ball but he hasnt had that many chances with the bat because he bats so low down the order hence he always had to slog. But the last time i saw him bat, he looked toothless.

I was browsing some stats and found that mushy has 2 of the best scores this year at #4 a 76 gainst england and 40+ also against england. Both were at good strike rates, which made me think why we demoted him? Was it because other players were coming into the team instead?

So far the top 3 have shown promise, but we don't have too many big scores from our #4s this year only mushy and raqibul have scored more than 50, both hit 76 against england. Jahuruls hit a couple of 40s and Mushy has hit a 40 as well, but nothing major. I think it's about time Raqibul got out of his 30s and 40s phase and started hitting centuries. His highest score is 89 and I expect him to beat that this series. I think he's going to need to get his strike rate up as well as the competition for #4 is hotting up with the likes of Jahurul and Nazimuddin hot on his heels as well as possibly Shariar Nafees if he has a good series with the bat.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the #4 position is the only one not to have produced a century in either format this year. Obviously excluding tailender positions.

Mushy should come up the order but thanks to our team management he probably won't..I really don't understand why we keep playing 8 batsmen..we really shouldn't be playing both Jahurul and SN in the lineup..its gonna ruin the team chemistry..I say have Jahurul open with Imrul and bring Mushy up to #5..and then use Shakib as a finisher at #7..

No SN in the team please. Open with Jahurul. I am tired of seeing bunch of random guys just walk in and take up a position, when there are other guys in the team for that job. In this case, Jahurul + Siddique. Only time SN should even come near playing XI is, if those 2 fails badly in 1st 4 ODIs, or we already won/lost the series, or if one of them is injured (allah na koruk). Other then that, they can't just walk him into a team.

No Razzak either... He sucks thats why

It still doesn't make sense to play 3 pacers when its a spin track and spin is our strength. I know some of you guys were like we need 5 full bowlers but honestly, do u think Nazmul will be able to bowl 10 overs without giving up like 80+runs??? So why not play Naeem and have an extra batsman?
This match depands on Mash now with no Shafiul and an unbalanced Rubel.

You guiss are pushing it too far with Nafees. Before Tamim came in, he was our best opener and he is still pretty good. Dunt think that the coaches have commented that he is good without any evaluation. He wasn't given any chance at ODI after his return from ICL and its been a long time since he played an international ODI. Be patient. Ashraful played for years before he was dropped. Nafees should be given at least 2-3 chances.......

Tickets for first ODI all sold out
The Daily Star, October 5, 2010 (http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=157181)

The tickets for today's first one-day match between Bangladesh and New Zealand have all been sold out.

Hence tickets will not available at the booths of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The official capacity of the stadium - which will host six World Cup matches including two quarterfinals - is 26,000-plus but the BCB have issued only 14,000 tickets for each match as the capacity has been slashed due to ongoing renovation work for the World Cup.

Grameenphone is selling the tickets of the five-match series from their different outlets and fans can now buy ticket through their mobile.

The second, third, fourth and fifth matches are scheduled for October 8, October 11, October 14 and October 17.

The price is fixed for gallery at Tk 25 while the price for VIP is Tk 1000, International Gallery Tk 200 and Club House (North and South) Tk 100.

After Tamim, Rubel and Shafiul already out, Mushfiq has got fever. It will be difficult for Bangladesh even to compete. It will require an extraordinary effort from Bangladesh to challenge New Zealand with this half fit team.

I think the practice schedule has been too intense ahead of the series resulting in too many injuries.

Here you go. Its all Siddons fault now. Tamim had to have his surgery, it was not Siddons fault he accidently hurt his wrist lat year. @ Mushy anyone can have fever. And as for Shafi and Rubel, I dont think they wanted to risk by playing them. Those injury aren't serious.

I don't think thats the case to be honest..Tamim was already injured, Mushy's sickness obviously isn't related to training and Rubel gets injured a lot due to his action..this is the national team and this series is very important so they needed to train hard..

It may be difficult but a team shouldn't have to rely on a handful of key players to perform. There are 15 men to choose from in the squad and each player should make their position as strong as possible. The fact that a team needs to rely on some key players is the epitome of it's weakness. And I don't think it'd require "extraordinary effort" to challenge if not win; each remaining player can stand out on their own on any given day.

I just saw video footage of Mash, Rubel and Shafiul bowling normally in the nets today. I don't know but maybe all the injury talk is just to keep NZ guessing?

And now training is being blamed! I guess after returning from UK the boys should have sat at home and built flab. What next?

They should be professional enough to deal with it. Every professional outfit goes through "intense" training every week. They are lucky it's just started for them. And we don't know for a fact that it is intense.

juhurul should replace mushfiq--either mushy is injured or not. his keeping is awful and batting in ODI is not even up to mark. i think its blessing in disguise. if its test match, scenario would be different. i think future belongs to anamul hauque.

This definitely is a bowl first condition. Try to get the most out of the morning moisture in the pitch and then bat on a wicket that was baked under the sun for hours.

Well then the conditions seem well suited to our boys. Here's hoping they don't screw it up. :flag:

Well you never know with Bangladesh, they might win the toss and still choose to bat first. Remember the day-night game against India at Mirpur in January where it was obvious to everyone that the dew would make it very difficult for the spinners of the team bowling second. Hell, even Shakib mentioned this at the end of the match ceremony of a previous game against Sri lanka, that the dew made it difficult to bowl second, which made it even more confounding when Shakib replied to Ravi Shastri's query of " You're obviously going to bowl first" with "no, actually we are going to bat first". Needless to say Bangladesh lost that match.

I completely and wholeheartedly Disagree. Sorry dude, not when it's our ground, on a hot & sunny day, in an ODI.....

I am going to disagree on this point, I think Bangladesh played their strength in the India game. If you manage to score 296, regardless of the conditions, the opponent's bound to be under some pressure and gives you a chance of winning the game. Any test quality bowling attack would have created some pressure, instead our bowling was horrible that day and let the Indians cruise through.

Well billah, I actually want Bangladesh to bat first, so that I could watch the batting and hit the bed after the inning. But I just think bowling in the afternoon heat will be much worse than bowling in the morning.

I have to agree with you here..at 1st I wanted them to bat 1st but bowling 1st seems like a better idea..put the Kiwis to bat and really have them under pressure in foreign conditions..if we can get them to a low total then it gives the batsmen confidence..it worked last time they toured us..

Initially we put great pressure but let it completely slip..fielding was poor as well and Shak dropped a crucial 1 that pretty much sealed the deal..when playing a G8 team you just cant afford to drop catches..they'll make you pay

the weather is so hot and humid that it would be tough batting or fielding in the morning and also afternoon.

the team fielding 2nd, may get 20% more hot weather than the morning but the team fielding first will be absolutely exhausted when they bat 2nd. because its already so hot that it feels like its already afternoon here in mirpur.

i dont think there will be any early morning moisture because its not winter it was sunny for the last few days and it was sunny from 6-30 this morning and game will start at 9. so whatever moisture was there it wont last when game starts at 9.

in summary its a very tricky decision what to after winning the toss. it may be a god tosss to lose.

but i feel. win the toss. bat first in a hard deck with batsman fresh and exhaust the opponent fielders. put a big score. then lets the exhausted batters chase in a hotter afternoon.
