^^SBNS has good drainage but 14 hours of rain may just be too much....

SNBS has very good drainage which endures no stagnant water on the field. but to get the wetness removed, we need some sunshine.

problem is the whole last night it rained and it is still raining 11 clock in the morning. so to have any chance of a play we need rain to stop immediately and then sunshine for whole day and also from tomorrow morning. still i feel we may get only a 20 over game if starts shining now and the whole tomorrow

on bad side of SNBS drainage system is that all the water that is drained out from SNBS actually inundates the neighboring area specially the 10 no GolChokkor and the fire brigade campus because the local drainage system gets overflowed all the water inundates the area around the stadium

I wouldn't let Imrul get anywhere near the XI. I wish I could drop Riyad and Naeem as well, as they're completely clueless now and lost it. But now that there is no option left, they should just be ordered to play aggressively, if they go in to bat around 35 overs. Naeem only knows one way, that used to be slogging, he should get back to that. Riyad can build an innings and still have a good SR. I miss the old Riyad+ Naeem.

I wish I could drop Razzak, but instead I will drop Rokibul. Nothing against him, just a team combo issue. If he bats, Rahim bats too low, and that's a huge issue. Rahim needs to bat at #4. Rokibul can't and shouldn't bat anywhere else but 4. So it's either Rahim or Rock.

Though I highly doubt they will change the "winning combo", but what you think?

1. Abir: will look good initially and quickly go past 30 with 1 or 2 streaky shots, then Mofees time as usual.

2. Bhimrul Omar Belim 2.0: will throw his wicket away at 25 max.

3. Junaid Imroze Saleh 3.0: will go past 50 after painfully reaching 35.

4. Natok-Raj Pathor Saleh 2.0: painful 25 with accidental singles and a streaky 4 or two, then exposed in all of his glorious limitations.

5. Shakib "the only man" Al Hasan: will reach 100 if he manages to get past that cursed 96. 2 to 5 wickets and outstanding field placement.

6. GoBoy: may reach 50+ if he doesn't throw his wicket away in the 30s. Will drop a catch and blow a stumping.

7. Jahurul Omi: Riyader bhat marar chance with 35+. Will drop a catch.

8. Nayeem: will try to make amends with the bat but is likely to fail like Rokon used to. One big shot and then Khoda Hafez. Will have a couple of good and a couple of shite overs.

9. Shuhash: will score valuable runs and bowl well.

10. Nostrilamous "all rounder" Rex: 50-50 chance the prototypical Hudmah will deliver an acceptable performance without chucking. 100% certainty he'll fail with the bat, fail once again as a fielder while the ball continues to find him no matter where he is, and fail to bowl 6 solid deliveries in a row during any of his overs and spells.

11. RBX: will bowl a good 3rd over. Maybe lethal in the middle overs.

Moyna will win it again for us InshAllah ... :fanflag:

</td> </tr> </tbody></table>
The Big Picture
While the cricketing world had its eyes firmly focused on the riveting action from Mohali (http://www.cricinfo.com/india-v-australia-2010/content/story/479976.html), Bangladesh were quietly adding a chapter to their own history in overcast Mirpur. Their victory against New Zealand in the first ODI was their 13th against top opposition (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/team/25.html?class=2;filter=advanced;opposition=1;oppos ition=2;opposition=3;opposition=4;opposition=5;opp osition=6;opposition=7;opposition=8;orderby=start; result=1;template=results;type=team;view=results). Seven of those wins have come in the last two years and, though the list includes three wins against a depleted-by-dispute West Indies, it indicates a progressive improvement in Bangladesh's consistency.
While they are capable of the occasional flash of brilliance, Bangladesh's problem has been their inability to build on the winning momentum. Barring those three games in the West Indies, they have never managed to string two upsets on the trot. The euphoria of their other famous win this year, against England in Bristol (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/426404.html), quickly evaporated when they were squarely thumped in the following game (http://www.cricinfo.com/england-v-bangladesh-2010/engine/current/match/426405.html). Can Bangladesh buck that trend and hold on to their early lead in this series?
Heavy rain is forecast over the next few days in Bangladesh, so much so that the National League matches scheduled to start on Sunday have been rescheduled. Even though Bangladesh haven't managed to string together two wins on the trot against strong opposition, the weather could help them enter the third match of the series with a 1-0 lead.
This is not the first time New Zealand have started a bilateral series in Bangladesh with defeat. In 2008-09 (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/361755.html), they managed to reverse the scoreline with convincing wins in the two remaining games. This series, being a five-match affair, gives them even more elbow room, but that does not mean Daniel Vettori will take Tuesday's defeat lightly. Despite his singling out Shakib Al Hasan as a threat, New Zealand seemed without a plan against Bangladesh's talisman allrounder in both departments. Vettori has said the tour of the subcontinent will give his side an advantage when the World Cup comes, but another defeat here will only create self-doubt ahead of tougher tests in India.

Form guide
(five latest completed matches, starting with most recent)
New Zealand: LLLWW
Bangladesh: WLWLL
Watch out for...
Despite their middle order's stumble against spin, New Zealand were in the game as long as Ross Taylor (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/38699.html) was at the crease. Bangladesh did well to deny him boundaries, and his dismissal, going for his favourite slog-sweep, tilted the balance in the hosts' favour. Taylor is unlikely to perish twice on the trot to his pet shot, but can he find a way past the spinners' stranglehold to make it productive?
Shahriar Nafees (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/56153.html) returned to the ODI side after over two years, but his touch and timing at the top of the order suggested he had never been away. With 1892 runs in 61 ODIs, Nafees is sixth in the list of highest run-scorers for Bangladesh (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;te am=25;template=results;type=batting), but of all their batsmen to have scored over 1000 runs, he has the highest average. Bangladesh can do with stability at the top, and Nafees, along with the currently-injured Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes, can give them a formidable top three.

Team news
Bangladesh will be without their first-choice seamers, Mashrafe Mortaza and Nazmul Hussain, who picked injuries (http://www.cricinfo.com/bangladesh-v-new-zealand-2010/content/story/480285.html) during the first match. The squad is, however, not short of fast-bowling options. Left-arm seamer Syed Rasel will expect to make the cut, while the remaining spot could be a toss-up between Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam.
Bangladesh (possible): 1 Imrul Kayes, 2 Shahriar Nafees, 3 Junaid Siddique, 4 Raqibul Hasan, 5 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 6 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Naeem Islam, 9 Abdur Razzak, 10 Rubel Hossain / Shafiul Islam, 11 Syed Rasel
Grant Elliott, BJ Watling and Shanan Stewart contributed two runs between them, in a passage of play that cost New Zealand the opening game. Kane Williamson should expect a call-up, but he is coming off a forgettable streak (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/277906.html?class=2;template=results;type=allround ;view=match) himself. Daryl Tuffey could be in line to replace Andy McKay whose nine overs went for 51 in the opening game.
New Zealand (possible): 1 Jesse Ryder, 2 Brendon McCullum (wk), 3 Ross Taylor, 4 Grant Elliott, 5, 6 Kane Williamson / BJ Watling / Shannan Stewart, 7 Daniel Vettori (capt), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Kyle Mills, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Daryl Tuffey

Stats and trivia

Mahmudullah has become the 15th Bangladesh batsman to reach 1000 runs (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;orderby=runs;te am=25;template=results;type=batting)
Kyle Mills, with 27, has taken most wickets (http://www.cricinfo.com/bangladesh-v-new-zealand-2010/engine/records/bowling/most_wickets_career.html?class=2;id=25;id=5;type=h eadtohead) in clashes between these two sides. Vettori comes second with 25. Shakib is the first Bangladesh player in the list, with 17
Quotes
"We had a reasonable start and to restrict them to less than 230 was a good effort. We expected to win, but we let ourselves down in the second half of our batting effort. "
Daniel Vettori knows where it all went wrong

It's a hard choice today. Should I stay up 'til 11:30 and find that game is delayed by an hour. Then 2 hours an then, before I know it, its 3:00 in the morning, no match has been played and I've to go to work in 3 hours.

Or, go to sleep and miss the game if there is any.

Its a lose-lose for me, as it seems. What are you guys going to do, who has similar problem?

I say take a nap after work and have the alarm at 11:00 sound..then see the update on the match and stay up..and Saturday is coming up so you can sleep all day if you want..so I would just sleep a little before the match and pull an allnighter..thats what I do for college haha..

Interesting report
Source The daiy Star

Sports Reporter
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to work very hard to convince Shakib Al Hasan to lead the team in today's second one-dayer of the five-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
It was learnt that the world's number one all-rounder, who almost single handedly guided his team to nine-run victory in the first one-dayer and successfully led the side in absence of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, was reluctant to take on the responsibility.
According to sources, the Magura-lad requested the board to give the duty to any other player. Although he finally consented to lead the team in the second match he expressed his unwillingness to continue the duty till the last match of the series.
Although he has, in the past, told the officials that he is not interested in the job for the next couple of years, he apparently confessed to not being happy with the makeshift duty, rather admitting that he was in favour of a longer term settlement, or at least until the end of next year's World Cup.
He was not even interested to carry on as a vice-captain.
"As a makeshift captain I will lead the team in the next match because the time for decisions is very short. In the meantime the board will definitely take a decision for the rest of the series and then I will give my opinion," said Shakib diplomatically when asked about the captaincy issue.
BCB's media committee chairman Jalal Yunus was also queried about the issue and he did not elaborate much: "The technical committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the captaincy issue. We have to take a decision also about the vice-captain."
According to sources, there has been a strong sentiment that the time has come for the board after Mashrafe's latest injury to take a firm decision about the captaincy.
Many believe that it's risky for the team to give Mashrafe some additional burden when he is uncertain about his career.

The guy in the maroon shirt is even carrying Vettori's cap. A bit too excessive I think. Sending escorts with them is fine to ensure their safety and to guide them but having them do meager chores for the players is unnecessary. I'm disappointed with Vettori for allowing them to do it.

Interesting... very interesting. It's only fair Shakib ask for permanent position in order to get teams respect and all. If he can do it then why the hell not? I don't see any other option. Raz is Haba....(not habibul bashar haba... modon haba) and Mushy needs to hold on to the catches first. I say make Nafees VC. If he can score some runs then we can get rid of Vimrul and have Tamim and Nafees open.

On top of that he was very much into the contest of becoming BD's next captain after Habibul Bashar. Shahriar was the VC when Shumon was captain. But now its really too early to make him a VC . let him settle in the team first. I think Junaed will be a better option for VC. Mushy is ok too.

Have some laugh, people.

In many respects, Bangladesh resemble a village cricket team. They really only have one reliable batsman who, needless to say, opens the innings. They have a guy who fancies himself as a bit of an all-rounder, who isn't as good as he thinks he is but who it is pretty hard to get the ball off if he fancies having a bowl. They have a captain who regularly injures himself, the tiniest guy in the side gets to keep wicket and the rest of the team is made up of seven players whose only discernible reason for selection is that they weren't doing anything else that day. All of those seven bat and bowl, but none of them do it very well.

If this sounds like a slightly harsh description, it can almost equally be applied to their current opponents, New Zealand. The Black Caps also have only one truly classy player, who is their main bowler and their most reliable batsman. They have the village cricket side's mandatory fat guy, several sloggers, and at least one guy who only takes a bat to the crease because he'd look silly without one.

duckworth lewis is pretty fair...obviously not perfect since there isn't any way to predict the future, but its fair.

we chased 166 in 25 overs against Kenya to win the ICC trophy when they had only scored 250 in full 50 overs. 250 in 50 overs is worth more than 125 in 25 overs.

duckworth lewis is pretty fair...obviously not perfect since there isn't any way to predict the future, but its fair.

we chased 166 in 25 overs against Kenya to win the ICC trophy when they had only scored 250 in full 50 overs. 250 in 50 overs is worth more than 125 in 25 overs.

Really, i thought that BD won because it rained. Bangladesh scored 228 in 49.3 overs and they had a target of 210 in only 37 overs. This obviously pressured them to score quicker

Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live match coverage of the 2nd ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand from Mirpur, the venue for all 5 matches in this series. I am Avi Singh and will be on commentary for the duration of today's game. Unfortunately bad news as it is raining at the ground currently. Inspection is planned at 10am local time if it stops raining soon. No toss as yet.

there target was higher because they had lost so many wickets.

the theory of DL is that both wickets and overs are resources used to score runs. that is why, they lost 13 overs, but only gained 20 runs.

Vettori just whines too much..DL is a part of the game and there's nothing you can do about it..don't get me wrong I like Vettori a lot and enjoy his bowling but some of his comments that he makes gets me annoyed..like 1 time he said we show 50% of our potential and we'll win against BD..and pitch isn't good enough..

D/L only went our way because we got the two wickets in the 15th over, if we did not get those wickets then NZ would be chasing 180-190 in 37 overs. So if you think about it, Shakib's double strike was the turning point.

No need to belittle the victory saying that D/L saved BD. They played without their key pacers, Tamim, and Mash got injured in the very first over. So NZ had great advantage playing with a full strength side.

No one's trying to belittle the achievement. I was just saying resorting to D/L as an excuse would be nothing but sad for a team. It was Bangladesh who played with 4 bowlers, without their #1 batsman and took advantage of the conditions. One team outplayed another, and resorting to D/L to find the cause of the defeat shant be done.

Oh another thing about what the Aussies/Kiwis/British complain about; the pitch.
It is our god**** home ground, we will put in holes in the pitch if that suits us. If we go to WACA and get destroyed by the pace and bounce and then complain about it, we will be tagged as whiners. But when an Aussie complains about Indian pitches being too slow/low, everyone asks for more sporty pitches.
A home team will make the pitch whatever way it suits them.

9.40am Still raining at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, so there will not be any inspection until the rain ceases. Frustrating for all concerned, particularly the New Zealanders. Coach Mark Greatbatch was seen talking to the groundstaff. Athar Ali Khan on air says the drainage system is good, so fingers crossed for enough time to at least get a 20-over game in.

there target was higher because they had lost so many wickets.

the theory of DL is that both wickets and overs are resources used to score runs. that is why, they lost 13 overs, but only gained 20 runs.

Nicely encapsulated. Due to D-L no one really complains as much about rain-impacts other than when a clearly superior team has to split points because the game got washed out.

As al Furqaan said, the basic premise of DL is that the total runs scored by a team is a function of two resources - this function is derived statistically. The two resources are the "number of overs to recieve" and the "number of wickets at hand". At any point in time, a team's ability to score depends on a combination of these two resources and the DL charts map this correspondence. Given the states of the two teams at the time of the interruption, the charts allow one to calculate the runs needed to score to achieve parity now that the resource of over's available has been reduced for the second team.

At times the D/L method can come up with counter-intuitive results and like all statistical models, they need to be updated over time. There are some criticisms to the underlying formula - wickets are given a much higher weight than overs and that the batting and fielding restrictions do not play into the equations.

Moving amond tall haycocks lightly piled,
I enter alone upon the stubbled filed,
From which the laborers' voices late have died,
And in the antiphony of afterglow
And rising full moon, sit me down
Upon the full moon's side of the first haycock
And lose myself amid so many alike.

I dream upon the opposing lights of the hour,
Preventing shadow until the moon prevail;
I dream upon the nighthawks peopling heaven,
Or plunging headlong with fierce twang afar;
And on the bat's mute antics, who would seem
Dimly to have made out my secret place,
Only to lose it when he pirouettes,
On the last swallow's sweep; and on the rasp
In the abyss of odor and rustle at my back,
That, silenced by my advent, finds once more,
After an interval, his instrument,
And tries once--twice--and thrice if I be there;
And on the worn book of old-golden song
I brought not here to read, it seems, but hold
And freshen in this air of withering sweetness;
But on the memor of one absent, most,

That's a bad idea, considering how our bowlers go in death over, and knowing our history with last_ball_thrillers_gift_the_win_to_the_other_team , lets not make a new history of last ball 12. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOsJ3lqB_KI)
