Yes.

Now - how hard did you have to resist temptation to not use the word "official' in the title. ;-)

Thank you for staying true to your sig.

^ Boss... I am sure there are plenty of official fans out there... but I like my title better. :smug:

he was always tipped as the best SLA of the reserves ... he got few early chances in difficult condition or match situation but could not make use of it. today he did the job. this could be the confidence booster for his career. hope he continues to improve and give raj a challenge for a place in team.

McInnes was very fond of Shubho - I hope Shubho finally starts to show the promise he had. He can bat quite nicely too...

And how many people wanted him dropped ? Shuvo just needs a few more games to get settled into the international scene.

I think he's broken Rafique's record against Australia in 2006.

Rafique 10-?-15-?

The Bangladeshi openers come out on the back of a brilliant bowling effort which was only slightly blemished by the Batting Powerplay. Shuvo bowled with unrelenting parsimony, while all the bowlers picked up a wicket.

This was one of the tightest, best displays of ODI/containment bowling I've ever seen, period. I pray to GOD that he can sustain this type of performance. The unrelenting pressure from his end created opportunities for others. WTG Md. Suhrawardi Shubho, Hujur 2.0 :applause:

He is our beard-walla Vettori, without glasses.

But I feel he was this successful because NZs probably never heard of him, and never faced him either. So they kinda got confused. But if he can keep this up, we now have replacement for Naeem and Riyad, and can rotate the trio Naeem-Riyad-Shuvo around in the late order.

His line and lenght of bowling was brilliant. That was missing against England, may be due to pressure of being newcomer. Excellent stuff from SS.
Btw dont forget he is an allrounder who will be really handy in batting PP situation.

He is our beard-walla Vettori, without glasses.

But I feel he was this successful because NZs probably never heard of him, and never faced him either. So they kinda got confused. But if he can keep this up, we now have replacement for Naeem and Riyad, and can rotate the trio Naeem-Riyad-Shuvo around in the late order.

if that was the case every debutant ever would take 3-14 off 10 overs...everyone debuts at some point...

naeem and riyadh ar mainly batsman and occasional bowlers, whereas Suhrawardi is mainly a bowler and handy batsman.

anyway we may not need both naeem and riadh at the same time.

anyway Shuvo can certainly push raj now for the 2nd SLA spot supporting Shakib. and i think shuvo should have already replaced raj in test matches.

Shouvo is not debutant. Not always a debutant does well, as they get excited or nerves.

But like I said, may be it's the case, may be it's not, if he can keep doing it, good for him. We can drop Razzak!

Shuvo finally got his break and I couldn't be happier. I want the legside-dart-througher Razzak out and Shuvo can nicely stand in for him.

But more than that it;s a good omen. Players like Shuvo, Riyad, Kayes are our made man. They aren't super talents, but they worked in our Domestic Structure and their hard work payed off. It's definitely a good sign for the future.

Take it easy guys. This was the first time he has shown any tenacity in international level, so no one should be convinced just yet. I'd like to see him play similarly in the remaining two games, as well as the Zimbabwe series, before considering him for our World Cup line-up.

don't forget razzak has had just one bad over this series, and has done fairly well in the last 3 series including this one.

but if for some reason we have to consider only two SLA for addition of third seamer or extra batsmen or other variation, then shuvo may get a nod over Raj. both of these SLA now have to really perform well and perform consistently to keep their place

exactly my thoughts. Today NZ batsmen targeted him to make quick runs but eventually got out in rush shots. No doubt, he made NZ batsmen to fall under his traps but its too early to treat him highly.

Lets see how he bowls in upcoming matches.

from cricinfo: (Player Profile)

Suhrawadi Shuvo is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, like his favourite bowler Daniel Vettori, who began playing cricket in 1999 and impressed for Rajshahi Division when he made his first-class debut in 2004-05. He was part of Bangladesh's Under-19 World Cup squad in 2006 and took nine wickets in six matches in Sri Lanka at an average of only 14.44. He went on to lead Bangladesh's U-19 World Cup campaign in 2008, and was handed his ODI debut in the second match against England at Mirpur in February 2010.

What an amazing Blessing from Allah that this guy, not only owned Vettori(his supposed favorite bowler) but also got him caught and bowled and owned his teammates as well... and got man of the Match :o

he was always tipped as the best SLA of the reserves ... he got few early chances in difficult condition or match situation but could not make use of it. today he did the job. this could be the confidence booster for his career. hope he continues to improve and give raj a challenge for a place in team.

he was part of our dream team of 2006 u-19 world cup
Shakib, Mushfiq, Mehrab, Dollar, Tamim, Rokibul, all were part of that team and was considered one of the very best of that lot.

Apart from his bowling, his batting is a major asset for the team he plays.
However, his form in Domestic cricket too was a bit frustrating for the last 2 seasons.
his bowling lacked bite and his batting lost the gloss. I was actually shocked to see him in the team

For once, I am happy to be proven wrong!

I was always saying, drop Nayeem and play another bowler and it has paid off.
Well-done Shuvo. He needed this and now his confidence will be high and will start feeling at home in international cricket. Inshallah we will go with 3 left-arm spinners in 2011 WC as well like we did in 2007.

I have always found it ridiculous that despite having one of the bowlers batting at #5, we opted for 4 specialist bowlers. Hopefully we will go for 5 specialist bowlers from now on.
Also, the bowling attack for WC is shaping up nicely, Mash, Shafi and then the trio of Shuvo, Shakib, Lalla. These would be even better than our 2007 WC bowling line up. Mash=mash of 2007, Shafiul> Rasel, Shakib[2011]=>Rafique, Lalla=Lalla[07], Shuvo=Shakib[07]

absolutely!...Naeem was one of the key architects for the 1st victory, then again he was also the first bangladeshi player that i've ever seen walk out with 'bhua' chants all around the stadium when he got out in that match, his batting and his fielding were all over the place, but he really got it together with his tight, accurate bowling, well, bangladesh aren't really missing him as it seems at the moment, but Riyad needs to do something,he isn't himself at all!

Take it easy guys. This was the first time he has shown any tenacity in international level, so no one should be convinced just yet. I'd like to see him play similarly in the remaining two games, as well as the Zimbabwe series, before considering him for our World Cup line-up.

Ditto. He was superb today - there is no doubt about that. But let us not elevate him to a super hero based on the performance of just one match.

man weget too excited over little stuff. Relax guys. Long way to go. I see people already making comparison with our last world cup trio. How many times has razzak shakib and shubo played for national team together? Im not taking anything away from him but its just one match lets see him do that for the rest of the series and on.

Leave the legend ALONE. What more he has to do to prove himself?

Suhrawardy came to scene as a hero.He got selected for the national team after getting proper maturity. But when first i saw him i was just demoralized such a bad bowler rules our domestic cricket?Really i got confused about standard of our domestic cricket. It was Jahurul who saved me from that situation.
Anyway now really i am happy with the performance of Suhrawardy as he has also started to show that all his domestic wickets were not gift from para cricketers.Wish he will be more successfull.

They should be careful with Ashraful because he might slap them hard.

I am happy to see the rise of Shuvo. He'll put more pressure on Riyad and Nayeem to perform for sure. This is a win win situation. I like :)

Ususally it takes time for new spinners to make a mark in the highest level. It (this trend) happened in the past with Rafiq and Sakib.

It may also happen with spinners like Naem (as a bowler), and Suhrawadi Shuvo if we are patient enough and stick with them. I don't care who we bring as a new spinner, but when we do, we need to be patient with him as long as we see sign of progression in the right direction.

Great Job SS, you looked completely different when we saw you last time. Whatwever you are eating... continue eating, whaterver you are doing...continue doing.

Shuvo is 100 times better than Flop Naeem, Naeem is only good against Zimbabwe while Shuvo proved he can hit late sixes against G8 and pick up wickets at crucial moments, I hope he gets a test call as he can create a lot of damages along with Shakib, he can back Shakib up, he flights the ball more thus creating more wicket taking opportunities unlike Mr. Rajjak. Razzak though should be in the odi side without a doubt.

Naeem Islam is a good cricketer no doubt. he is going through a rough patch currently.

He was always made to bat in #9 when in fact he is an excellent domestic batsmen.
His off-spin has only be effective due to our variation in spin department and he has developed in that area over the last 2 years.

I just don't know what happened to his batting? I mean, He used to be very aggressive.

There is still hope for Naeem. it is just that now our team competition is fierce. so basically, IF bangladesh continues this winning momentum, then players who are not "superstars" will get dropped easily, which is good for our cricket

also, Naeem has been constantly with the team for over the last two years, he has more international experience with him than Shuvo. I am not going to compare who is better than who, that is not my job. However, we shall see once Shuvo inshaAllah gets drafted into the test team.

Also, Riyad used to bat very aggressively not too long ago. He too is seriously out of form!

There are similar praises for Naim in this forum. Occassional performances cannot be the basis for any conclusion. Who knows SS will not turn into Nayeem 1.1 after this series? We need to give him time and scope to play in different conditions to judge him.
