All I have to say is wow..I'm actually still in shock..I can't actually believe we beat a full strength test playing nation so convincingly!! I just wanted us to play a competitive series with the Kiwis but they have definitely done more then that..Who would have thought without Tamim and Mash that we could beat the Kiwis 3 consecutive times!! First guy I have to applaud is Shakib..this is the 2nd time this series where he has carried the team with both bat and ball..there's a reason why I get mad at him when he wasn't batting well..this guy is such a talented batsman..the way he scored today was just brilliant..he rotated the strike, put the bad balls away and played low risk shots..Have to applaud the whole Bangladesh team for working hard in practice and playing as a unit..GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BANGLADESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, his technique looked a bit crappy (in county) as well.

Something was indeed wrong with his bat during the season. It might be coz of the long season, or just off-form. Or Jamie's help on the net. Who knows! :-|

But hopefully, he will do much better with the bat next season for Worc (if he is picked) ;)

Just going to paste below what I wrote in the match thread. Don't want to miss out in our first series win celebration thread against a top team. :) It's Epic! For the first time we won from a losing position!

I watched BD bat, but was really disappointed that Shakib did not utilize the powerplay when he and Riyad was set. The score of 241 did not look unachievable to me. It was all looking like a familiar sight - losing from the position of advantage. So, I went to sleep as I had to wake up early for work. When I woke up in the morning my heart was filled with joy. It was a great b'day gift for me, and it was not the first time tigers won on my b'day. Epic win! It showed the character of boys to hold nerve, and will power to win the game. Props to the bowlers. I hope this is a begining of a new era, and we never look back. Prove your consistency boys, and make it 4-0! Now, Tigers, go and finish the job!

Think of it guys, this is what we have been waiting for here is BC for the last several years. I remember I joined on the day when we beat India in BNS on boxing day 2004. And since then, so many victories here and there but never something like this, our wait is over and we have to fully enjoy this moment. What a day, I cannot stop crying, this is too much.

Come on Tigers... enjoy this moment and keep working hard and like today, results will come.
and Thank you, you make us proud

I've always wanted to win the world cup at home. Not my fault that the takla didn't want to win and his sissy productions didn't have the vision and got home sick the minute they stepped out of the house and went on to lose against associates.

We've been a team of ODI status for a little over a decade now and nothing other than the world cup matters.

I do, and they are improving though NZ are weak as well. Over the last 2 years they've been regularly putting up close fights, with totals of about 250 and close finishes. A bit like Pakistan who for a while over the past year weren't finishing tight matches, though I still think Pakistan is a better team

Well done you Bangla boys--hopefully the first of many to come

Btw the cricinfo commentary for this match was hilarious, never missed an opportunity to mention India:

Elliott to Shakib Al Hasan, 1 run, Dhoni-like whippage but not to the same extent, out into the covers

Shakib Al Hasan to Williamson, no run, tries a wristy VVS Laxman flick but yet again hits to midwicket, a man in demand

Similarities with Kapil Dev's running catch in the 1983 World Cup final

Danny Morrison on air remembers Mark Richardson's cramp attack at Mohali in 2003, says it was similar to this occasion

Much depends on the injured Kane Williamson to carry his side through in the same manner as VVS Laxman did at Mohali recently.

Breathless finish here as the Bangladeshis go on a lap of honour to celebrate this historic moment, with the crowd screaming in delight. Reminiscent of the scenes at the Oval in 1971 after India's first Test win in England

I hope they realize after a while there's more countries than just India playing the game

I think we are on the cusp of becoming a true cricket force, but a few things have to happen.

Having wickets in hand always helps to accelerate toward the end. Our total could have been higher if SN, JS, and RH did not fail completely. Then again, it may not have mattered. See the next point.
We need to make better use of powerplay. I thought, even after losing 4 wickets cheaply, that we could reach 270. Adding only 16 while losing the last 4 wickets was bad and could have come back to hurt us. We need to understand that you can score 8 per over with 2 singles, 2 twos, and 1 boundary. All you need to do it pierce the 6 fielders inside the circle. This should help with T20 as well.
Raqib should go. Until Tamim is back, Jaharul could take his place. With Jaharul, Mush can play as a specialist batsman. Even after Tamim is back, Jaharul should be in the team and should replace any out-of-form batsman in the 11-men team.

A few more things:

What a knock by Shakib. Shakib has become a more patient batsman after his stint in county cricket, without much reduction in strike-rate. His average should go up.
What a catch by Razzak!
Both Shafiul and Shakib were expensive, but provided key breakthroughs.
Who thought Rubel would be so miserly.
Ryad might be regaining his form. Very good news.
SN finally failed. ;-)
Both Junaid and Shuvo were a bit unlucky. Junaid fell to a great catch. Shuvo hit the ball on the nose, but hit it to one of the three fielders outside the circle.
I am impressed with Shuvo. I think he is a keeper in the ODI.
Razzak seems to have regained his ODI form. Finally.
Imrul is growing up right in front of us. I am generally correct in assessing a new player's temperament. But, I was wrong about him. He may never be Tamim, but he should become a useful contributor.

Need to get back to work now.

A couple (or more) of more items:

That run out of Mushy was simply horrible and they would have got the single comfortably if he responded immediately. If he was there toward the end, we could have accelerated better. He always starts slow, but has the capability to seriously accelerate once he is set.
Shakib probably could have got a bigger score, but he succumbed to tiredness. I know I am nitpicking, but this is our weather. Shouldn't our players have better fitness for this weather?
Batting powerplay should have been taken right after Shakib's ton. We might have been all out by 47th over, but Shakib probably could have provided a few more boundaries and our score could have been 10-20 more. In the end, it thankfully did not matter.

Shakib is a little bit sick. I read it in PA that Shakib was vomitting just before 1st match started. He didn't get any rest due to county games. He should naturally be tired for such a long season.

I am definitely going to go overboard with this post, but I can't think of a better place to share my feelings right now.
I have been following Bangladesh cricket since 1997 ICC trophy, there have been so many dull periods that I had to experience. I never lost faith, during the 5 year win-less period. I always hoped, rather than believe that one day we will have a strong team as well who will dominate the top teams.
Many potential game changers came, starting from Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali and several others, none really did what was expected of them. Bangladesh stayed lingering between the top flight and the associates, they were the 12th man of world cricket, not really fitting anywhere.
Today, when my flight landed in Queensland and I opened my mobile cricinfo, I had only one thought in mind, "will the headline say 'Kane Williamson pulls one back'?" But to my greatest pleasure it read "Shakib Stars in historic series win". A sudden shout came out in a plane full of Aussies, cheering my heart out, albeit silently.
Bangladesh cricket team, you have made me ecstatic beyond imagination. All those years of torture of watching bangladesh surrender to big teams are suddenly worthwhile, suddenly the Bangladesh jersey on me doesn't look that odd. Hear of teams being lucky, once and sometime twice, but never have I heard anyone being lucky thrice, Bangladesh have sent a message to the world cricket that they have [finally] arrived. Once again, thank you bangladesh cricket team.

I have been following Bangladesh cricket since 1997 ICC trophy, there have been so many dull periods that I had to experience. I never lost faith, during the 5 year win-less period. I always hoped, rather than believe that one day we will have a strong team as well who will dominate the top teams.

Believe me, it was more difficult for me. I have been following BD since 1978, when Sri Lanka, not yet a full ICC member toured us and trounced us. 32 years is a long time, but it is better late than never. Growing up is hard...

Which NZ player once said BD needs to be kicked out? Martin Crowe was it. I think even Sinclair said once playing a series against BD is worse than net practice before Australia series as it lowers your standard. Funny we had to get our first series win against NZ.

I am definitely going to go overboard with this post, but I can't think of a better place to share my feelings right now.

Couldn't have said it better myself, it's exactly the same with me except I've been following since 1999. That feeling when you're loading the CricInfo web page, wondering what the headline is going to say. All those years of relying on CricInfo commentary before there were 'links'. Reading a match until the wee hours of the morning. It's all worth it, because we've seen them grow and evolve for the better! No matter what, we'll always love this Bangy team. I just hope against hope they can maintain this! (All these years haven't made me forget what they're like). But for now just enjoying being the crystal clear better team for once!

Btw welcome to Queensland! Enjoy your stay. Our weather isn't usually like this, I promise.

Last night in a joint statement both the Yankees and the Mets management said after last nights massive Shakib innings they are sending scouts to BD in search of the next Sammy Sosa AL Hasan.

What can i say - i am speechless. This is a proud moment not only for BD cricket fans and followers but all cricket fans in general. That it did so without a couple of prominent stars (Tamim and Mashrafe) not only makes it all the more worthwhile but also throws clears indicators to the world cricket on what awaits them when they face BD next.

Shakib was a prominent BD star from the day that he made his entry to the BD cricket - and mostly lives up to his billing as the numero uno all-rounder. That some others in the BD team have started to lend him a good helping hand (Shuvo for example) is a good development and the most important aspect of this series win.

It is time for 'Pagla Baba'r mazar'e Pani Pura'.

Congratulatios all the way!!!!

Tokoni Bolsilam na...

Without the cancer, BD will be a "better" team.

Even without "performaing players" (like Tamim and Nazmul), we are still playing like a confident team.

Good bye to free rides ... and welcome to winning attitute !!!!

On second thoiught, almost good bye to free rides... as Rakibul is still in the team.

Otherwsie, the rest is, more or less, contributing one way or another.

jahirul need to be given a chance in last ODI. Its a shame that we are wasting opportunity here to make the batting order even better.

This could be that watershed moment in our cricket! We have finally arrived as a quality ODI team. Now our boys need to take care not to relinquish the momentum and make sure no one ever refers to them as the minnows again!

hardly missed attending any of the BD home series matches at the stadium in Dhaka (be it BNS or SBNS) ever since BD got the test status......and my bad, I couldn't be a part of this historic moment along with the thousands of fans who were jumping around at the gallery....:( wish, I was still there in BD,,,,:'(

Nevertheless, my Indian flat mate and Indian house owner was there with me to watch the whole match......and all I said to them was, get ready for 19th of February, 2011......!!!!

hahaha....Pakistanis should get the fact.....no matter whether or not, we lose 8 out of 10 matches, we always play as a unit....we don't fix matches, we don't do spot fixings and our board doesn't suspend players for the entire life time and then bring them back again within 72 hrs.....:P:P.....So, they are just too good to make fun for anybody....:saint::saint:
