What has been our best year so far?

(kudos to Razi and BD_SY for the idea from the 2010 Performance Monitor thread)

2007 : Warm up win vs. NZ, wins in WC vs. IND & SA (loss to IRE), win vs. WI in T20 WC
2008 : Win vs. NZ
2009 : Win vs. SL, reached finals in a multi-national tournament and lost in a heartbreaker, whitewash of a strike-riddled WI team in Tests and ODIs. Embarassaing loss to IRE in T20 WC and WI in T20
2010 : Win vs. ENG, at least 3 wins and a series vs. NZ and losses to IRE and NED

Add to that we have 6 more ODIs left this year and I hope to win at least 4. If only we could have won one or two more against England and knocked either Ind or SL then it would have been really obvious which is the best year.

2010 = players groomed well, few personal achievement,Shakib's country success, great victories like series win vs NZ,new better bowling and fielding coach & a CEO recruitment etc

Best year for tests ( I know, no results ), but I am not quite sure if this is the best ODI year though. I still will have to give the nod to the '07 WC year, just for the sheer fact who we beat and the stage and magnitude of those matches. This is surely the second best, if not the best, but I still think '07 was better ( ODI's ) .

Welcome to Banglacricket.com, where dreams come true as long as you keep your poll options below a 100 chars and stay away from challenging Ireland to a five-match duel.

2006

*Shariar Nafees ends up being the 6th highest run maker of the year in ODIs.

*Mortaza takes 49 wickets(including all-time Bangladesh best 6/26) in the calender year, making him the highest wicket taker of 06.While Abdur Razzaq was the third highest with 45.

*Bangladesh record their maiden victory over Srilanka at Bogra.

*Bangladesh maul Kenya in a home series, beating them 4-0,also whitewashing them in the return series later in the winter 3-0.

*That unforgettable Australia tour of Bangladesh took place that year.1st test match,Nafees scores that brilliant century, the rest is history.

*Bangladesh tour Zimbabwe, lose 3-2.The series included that unfaithful match where a six from Taylor's bat off the last ball decided the fate of the series. But that same year,In Zimbabwe's tour of Bangladesh, the hosts rampaged to an unstoppable 5-0 whitewash.

*The Shere Bangla National Stadium,Bangladesh's 'home of cricket',was opened

*Bangladesh ended up the third most sucessful team by winning 18 of their 28 matches that year.

For me personally 2007 was the most enjoyable year however I have to admit that in terms of achievement this is our best year yet. I think a new era of us dominating at home has begun.

well, on topic,

2007 was definitely the best year. It announced the arrival of Bangladesh into the big league(with sheer proofs)

This year, would have been the best had we beaten the likes of India/Srilanka(several golden opportunities blown :() earlier in the year.

there are too many failures in this year to be dubbed "the best" IMHO. this recent success in my opinion has largely to with hiring coaches like Ian Pont and Julian Fountain.

You can certainly tell that this post summer 2010 Bangladesh team does not have the same mentality from Summer 2010...

we wasted too many opportunities this year!
We should have beaten India at least once(FAILED!) given the circumstances....

2010 must have been the best had BD not lost to the Associates badly.

This year is not over yet. Wait till ZIm series.

but currently, it's a toss up of 07 and 09 ( out of 07, 8, 09)

It is a toss up between 2007 and 2010, but I will choose 2010, because BD recorded their first ODI win against a lethal England attack, gave the Brits a hard time in the test matches and now, to top it all off, a series victory against NZ. Can you fans remember in 2008, when Brendon Mccallum single handedly thrashed BD in NZ. I still cringe when I think about the embarassment and total failure our tigers must have felt to survive a defeat like that. Also, earlier this year, when they were defeated by NZ. I am ecstatic that the shoe is on the other foot now., and BD has earned respect from Vettori and Co.
All the G8 nations feel that BD is their whipping boys, it is high time that BD turn the tide around.
I am hoping that they can keep up the good work and that their coaches will instill this winning mentality all the time.

yeah definitely 2010. Our performances have improved greatly and with a bit more luck could've pulled of a few more wins.

2007 - we caused an uproar in India and embarrassed the saffers. The effect of those wins were more heavier and our expectations were lower than current year.

Also we got some respect after 2007 and other teams were taking us more seriously After that world cup.

^But we lost other matches badly. There was no consistency. That's why I rate the series win against NZ higher.

Your logic fails like a cat taking a shower on his own.

In 2007 we lost to Ireland too.

2007 ftw. What a glorious year that was.

Losses to Netherlands and Ireland, as well as some embarrassing performances against G8 teams, makes this year an embarrassment (besides the NZ tour).

A series win against a top-flight team wins hands down.

This raises expectations for WC11 - so hopefully BD can make 2011 their best year in history...

PS: Also, don't forget Tamim winning Wisden cricketer of the year as well in 2010...
