The Daily Star weather update:
>>>>>> Depression crosses Orissa coast
The deep depression over west central Bay and its adjoining northwest Bay moved westwards and crossed Orissa coast of India near Gopalpur.

The depression now lies over Orissa and its adjoining areas as a land depression, a Met Office bulletin said on Saturday.

It is likely to move in a westerly direction and weaken gradually by giving precipitation, the bulletin added.

Under its influence, steep pressure gradient persists over north Bay.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and squally weather is unlikely over north Bay.

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to lower signal.

Important

I don’t if you guys notice NZ played our spinner really good last (4th ODI), what they do is come out of the crease where ball is going to pitch and play the ball taking away LBW issue, in the process they show the wicket. Things need to be done next game for our bowler:

1. Have strong fielder on leg side
2. Spain the ball well
3. Ball him on leg side.

LOL

If we can be positive in our batting and show some flexibility by adjusting our strategies according to match situations then I too will change my stance on JS.

Most importantly we must stop the trend of taking one step forward and two step back. We must crush Zim after this tour as well. Crushing Zim is an expectation and crushing Kiwis was an Aspiration. Lets hope the boys do not falter on the easier task.

The Big Picture

New Zealand's preparation for the 2011 World Cup has had a disappointing start that has dealt a considerable blow to their pride. Bangladesh are a team that Daniel Vettori's side, amid the customary pronouncements of "not taking the opposition lightly", would have been confident of conquering. But New Zealand have floundered against Shakib Al Hasan's all-round heroics and Bangladesh's array of spinners, enabling the hosts to achieve their first ODI series win against a full-strength Test-playing nation.

Greater challenges lie ahead for New Zealand, with a tour of India starting next month, and any further humiliation augurs badly for a full series in tougher conditions. Their batting has let them down with its inconsistency. The performances of the senior players like Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor have been erratic while the newer faces have yielded mixed results. BJ Watling and Shanan Stewart haven't had the best of series while Kane Williamson shone in the fourth ODI but was unable to complete the job.

The implications of another loss against Bangladesh are significant. A 4-0 defeat is effectively a clean sweep at the hands of a team that had, so far, been one of international cricket's punching bags - one that has now introduced a measure of consistency to its ability to surprise. And New Zealand, who were No. 2 in the ICC ODI rankings during the the tri-series in Sri Lanka in August, will slip down to No.7, while Bangladesh will move up to No.8, level with West Indies.

Form guide
(most recent first)
Bangladesh: WWWLW
New Zealand: LLLLL
Watch out for...
Daniel Vettori has been New Zealand's best bowler this series but has been less influential on the outcome than his Bangladeshi counterpart. Both, apart from being captains, are the best players of their respective teams and have borne a disproportionate amount of responsibility amid lack of support from the rest. Vettori's not had an impact with the bat this series, unlike Shakib, and has lost out in their battle. A winless series, however, will hurt and the New Zealand captain will be determined to salvage a success, preferably a commanding one to restore some confidence.

Bangladesh's spin attack has been the talking point with regards to their bowling but Rubel Hossain has led the fast-bowling department well, containing the scoring and using his variations, particularly the slower ball, intelligently in a good supporting role. Rubel's been expensive in his career so far with an economy rate of 5.99 but, in Bangladesh's series win on Thursday, he bowled one of his most economical spells.

Team news

Bangladesh would want to reinforce their dominance on their tour with a fourth win and Shakib is likely to go in with the side that won on Thursday.

Bangladesh (possible): 1 Imrul Kayes, 2 Shahriar Nafees, 3 Junaid Siddique, 4 Raqibul Hasan, 5 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 6 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Suhrawadi Shuvo, 9 Abdur Razzak, 10 Shafiul Islam, 11 Rubel Hossain.

New Zealand, too, would want to play their best-available line-up and that would mean Jesse Ryder returning to the top of the order after missing the fourth ODI.

New Zealand (possible): 1 Brendon McCullum (wk), 2 Jesse Ryder, 3 Ross Taylor, 4 BJ Watling, 5 Kane Williamson, 6 Grant Elliott, 7 Daniel Vettori (capt), 8 Kyle Mills, 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Daryl Tuffey, 11 Hamish Bennett.

Stats and trivia
New Zealand have been beaten 4-0 or worse in a bilateral series eight times. Bangladesh have swept aside Kenya and Zimbabwe in four and five-match series.
There have been 25 instances of players scoring a century and grabbing three or more wickets in the same ODI. Shakib Al Hasan, on Thursday, became the first Bangladesh player to achieve that double.
Quotes
"We should have adapted quicker than we have. We put ourselves in tough positions with the bat. One game left, it's a must win for us. We must restore some pride in the last game."
Daniel Vettori

"If we can maintain the winning habit then we will be in a great state of mind when the World cup arrives and here we are a match for any team and capable of beating any side, particularly those that are not from the subcontinent."
Shakib Al Hasan

First of all a hearty congrats to the wisden test player of the year "TAMIM IQBAL KHAN".

Rest Abdur Razzak and give Naeem a chance.Playing at vital 3rd & 4th positions.Junaed & Raquibul batting has been highly frustrating. I want these two batsmans to perform well.Except Shakib ,to a extent Imrul and Nafees none of the others performed for the team with their bats.Mushfiq & Mahmudullah also needs to perform well.Fielding has been excellent but still there are few places to improve. The throws to both striker and the non striker's has been little wider.Bowling is also good but there needs much more improvement to compete with teams like ENG,SA,IND,AUS,SL.I want both the fast bowlers to bowl their full 10 overs to check their consistency throughout the innings.

EXPECTATIONS:
1.Wants Junaed & Raquibul to perform well.
2.A century and a 50+ from any of the top 4 batsmans or atleast two 50+.
3.Either Rubel or Shafiul should take a 4 wicket haul with a good economy rate.
3.Batting & Bowling in the last PP needs to be improved.
4.Don't get bundled out if bat first.Rather I want to see scores like 275/4.
5.Score 270+ if bat first.Restrict NZ within 240 if bowl first.

There is a possibility that BD team may turn to old self by loosing to NZ by big margin. NZ will bring their best to play for pride in the last game. BD performance at 4th game is concern, specially when they let the newbie make a century (whos average score was 5). The new bowler also took 3 wkts and bd were all out in 48 overs after faltering the PP. The series win may have overtaken the weakness but long way to go for bd to be consistent

in my opinion, let the non-performing players give one last chance, for those people who are asking for Axing a certain few players, if they fail in this ODI, which has absolutely no pressure at all for bangladesh(play freely) since series is Alhamdulillah, already won! they can be dropped after this series.

although i wouldn't mind seeing guys like Jahurul Islam being tried and tested for experience.

I have a feeling Shuvogoto Hom will debut against Zimbabwe.

Actually I think Jamie has a weakness abt Right Handed btsman & it's true that most of our reliable btsmen r lefties so may be Jamie is trying his best to establish a solid & consistent Right hander for BD which isn't a bad idea.
I think before he did the same for Ash.

Js likes rok a lot but likes jahurul a lot as well..in 1 article he said they'll both eventually become world class players..so no question he loves both but ya jahurul shouldve gotten at least 1 chance 2 prove himself..but lik rifat says these guys hv 1 more chance 2 prove themselves and if they fail again then the next series they should be rested..rok and zunaed hv really been disappointing..roks been worse and has jus one 50 this year but zunaed has been pretty pitiful this series as well..thre it away 1st game, couldn't finish off the 2nd game, and 3rd game threw it away again..rok threw it away 1st game, 2nd game couldn't even get taylor away and 3rd game got out because of him sighting the ball 2 late..we are lucky nz batting has been bad or else we would be in trouble..our 3 and 4 should not be playin so poor..

Yes I am a raptors fan. Yeah I know, Miami is a scary team eh ? But they certainly aren't unstoppable. It feels kinda empty now when I see the preseason games. Bosh is a great player and I guess he did what was best for him. I don't really blame him for going to Miami, the raptors failed to put the right pieces around him. We had enough time to do that (7 years) but we couldn't do it. I guess its time for tanking and getting a top 3 pick. Maybe we can get Harrison Barnes of Kyrie Irving for this seasons draft, that'll change our franchise for sure.

McKay getting a lot of movement off the pitch. Hopefully we can play cautiously for the first 6 to 8 overs and then attack the New Zelanders.

Abir's woes against quality quicker deliveries continue. Like the Mofees of olde. Good opportunity for Bhimrul to cement his place with a 50 here.

The ball pitched outside off and darted back in low to beat Nafees' attempted prod, struck on the kneeroll on middle and leg, possibly going on to hit leg
