I beleive the way we play our cricket has changed vastly in recent times. Not to long ago we played to win 1 match out of 10 played. If i am not wrong this 1 match used to be won by us in the form of extra ordinary batting from ashraful. But now that is a thing of the past. We have the strengh of winning 5 out of 10 played against tougher opposition then why should we settle for the old 1 out of 10. Its time to say our gratitude to ASH and give him a honorary retirement.

What Sakib said yesterday might do harm as a team or as a player to himself in future. But what he said was truly for the sake of us getting forward. I hope this chaos will not affect his form in the coming matches. :flag:

That is a very important point.

Ashraful excelled in his role when we were not expected to win games. So when he failed this was swept aside as Bangladesh were going to lose any way and when he did succeed, he was hailed as the bangladeshi version of Tendulkar. As you said, Bangladesh Cricket has evolved now and we are now expected to compete and win more games. We need consistent performers, not these once in a blue moon players.

Also we need to play players in their right roles and start thinking about having different squads for Test cricket and ODIs.

Players like Riyad, Naeem, Mushy are top order batsmen that are struggling down the order, play them higher up and if they still fail then drop them from the ODI team. We have highly talented and promising youngsters that should be groomed and given a few games to let the older ones know that if they fail then they lose their place in the team.

if he is dropped it indicates that the board is clueless as to what to do. jahirul getting dropped without a chance and then ashraful brought back for one game and then dropped. they should not have selected him to begin with if the Asian games was their criteria for selection. they should have picked Roman and Naeem.

wrong criticism. Jahurul Islam is not available in the squad. Rakibul is only option to replace the Dhut-Vat.

Then take Naeem in place of Ash. Why take Raqib? Naeem is useful as a bowler too. He is a top order batsman.

Ironically he may be the one left behind for today's second one-dayer against Zimbabwe after his indifferent performance in the first match on Wednesday. Photo: STAR</small><span class="byline">Sports Reporter</span></div><p>Mohammad Ashraful and Mahmudullah Riyad are likely to be dropped for the Tigers' second one-dayer against Zimbabwe at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today.</p><p>The exclusion of Ashraful means the 'automatic choice' over the past decade has become surplus to requirements, especially after he flopped in the first game of the series that the Tigers lost by nine runs. Ashraful scored only six, but again his dismissal begged the question of his state of mind. The right-hander scored a couple of hundreds in domestic cricket recently, but it is clear that such runs would not guarantee a place in the national team.</p><p>Ashraful will be replaced by Rokibul Hasan, another right-hander who adds his good fielding to the side. Rokibul is also not among the runs in international arena, scoring only 51 runs in the New Zealand series, but the batsman who hails from Jamalpur would be hard-pressed to beef up the middle-order that has in reality not done well even in the 4-0 whitewash last month.</p><p>Jamie Siddons however is not in favour of changes, the head coach preferring to field the same side.</p><p>"I am reluctant to changes on the team. I think everyone should get a second chance," said Siddons while talking to reporters yesterday.</p><p>"A lot of the players didn't play well so you can't change the whole team. I'm not sure there will be any changes," he added.</p><p>Like Ashraful, Riyad was also benched ahead of the crucial second one-dayer, Naeem Islam being his replacement and chief selector Rafiqul Alam said that Riyad's form off-late has not been satisfactory.</p><p>"Riyad has not been playing well for the last six months, so we decided to bring Naeem [Islam] in," said Rafiqul.</p><p>Riyad's last ODI fifty came in January this year although he usually bats as low as number seven and never above number five in the batting order. Naeem, on the other hand, recently played an important innings in the Asian Games final against Afghanistan when Bangladesh were in trouble of embarrassment.</p><p>Siddons, the 46-year-old Australian, was disappointed with the Tigers' performance in the first game.</p><p>"We had a bad game. We batted badly, we bowled bad and we didn't field well. Lots of areas to work on but one bad game doesn't make that much difference. Our record is now four out of five," he said.</p><p>Grant Flower, the visitors' batting coach, was also of the opinion that Bangladesh needed to improve if they were to level the series.</p><p>"I am not sure about their [Bangladesh's] game plan. They have to improve and so does Zimbabwe.</p><p>"They have to get better in various areas. So it will be a good game," said one half of the famous Flower brothers.</p><p>He arrived in town after the first one-dayer which Zimbabwe won but Flower believes they have a good bowling attack for these conditions.</p><p>"It won't be a high-scoring game, as the past suggests. The team that handles pressure will do well," said Flower, who recently made a comeback for the South Africa ODI series before retiring from the top level.</p><p>As for team news, Flower said Hamilton Masakadza could very well sit out the second match in the series. "I wasn't involved in the selection process but I think they wanted to give young Regis [Chakabva] a go and the lad did well. I am not sure if Hamilton will play tomorrow [Friday]," said Flower.</p> </div>
