Yes, you. You, there. Reading this. We know who you are.

Hey, listen.

This is a great site. I think so. I hope you do too. This is great because of fans like you. After all this site is by, for and of the fans.

Once again, the call goes out for our members to write articles and help with match reports.

If you see the article section, we used to get and publish tons of articles from our members. In addition to the dynamic and quality discussions you see in the forums, the articles we publish also add to the depth in quality of BC. For the last several years, I am sorry to say, outside participation has stopped to a trickle.

Let's turn this around. Go and talk to your muse and send us your articles! We publish articles both in বাংলা and in English. Send your article to editors@banglacricket.com or PM to me, or any other admin/staff/mod.

We also need tour reports we can publish with our tour coverage. If you go to the front page or the tour section, you will notice that we've been trying hard to maintain a comprehensive coverage. But - we are all volunteers here and have our day job. Even if you might think so, we cannot (though would like to) devote 24/7 to BC.

So do send me your tour reports. A few paragraphs that will be published with your byline. If you go to the front page, we are kind of behind.

Expecting a good year end review of the tigers from someone.

I think unless you are a journalist or someone in contact with the key people it's hard to come up with refreshing stuffs to keep readers interested. For this reason most of my pieces tend to be fluff pieces. And as far as technical aspects, well sometimes I find it weird that unless people have first class experience they comment on such stuffs like so and so has poor or great hand-eye coordination. Seriously? That's like a virgin reading erotica novel and bragging to his friend about sex life.

Having said that I love the diversity of articles in BC archive. Many are much better than some of the CI pieces, reading the latter seems like a big frikkin chore.

p.s. One World: drop your piece man...

I am happy to say we got a number of submissions for articles this time around. This is good but not quite enough. I want to have our pipeline primes with great articles that we can publish on a regular basis. So do keep the articles coming.

Just to let you know what happens once we get submissions. We have an editorial process and an articles moves through a number of steps in the workflow before publication.

We do proof the articles and may make changes that may concern spelling, punctuation, grammar, usage, style, organization, and (if necessary) content. We try to make minimal changes and do our level-best to keep the voice of the author. After all, is is YOUR article and not one of our EDITORS. And we all are volunteers here and do not really have the time we want to devote to this process and so we prefer articles that require minimal edits. And, of course, we do not wish to rewrite your article at all!

On occasions, the changes that need to be made are so much that we might have to pass the article back to the author for rework and resubmission.

We will acknowledge receipt of all articles and will let you know within a week or two the status of your article. I believe I have acknowledged all articles received as part of this call but if I have not, do accept my apologies and ping me.

I would urge you to read William Strunk's "The Elements of Style" when writing an English article.

Some of the common pitfalls we see in articles are

Very long run-on sentences where umpteen phrases are strung together by commas. If you do need more than two commas, consider a new sentence?
Incorrect usage of vocabulary. Two words may mean the same thing in isolation, but only one is appropriate in the context of the sentence. Just looking up a synonym in a thesaurus to find a polysyllabic word can be fraught with problems. The KISS adage is always true - Keep It Simple Stupid
Unfortunately, English not being our first language, our writing is often stilted. Our idiomatic usage would seem very strange to native language speakers. Direct English to Bengali translations do not normally work.

There are more, but these are what came to mind as I wrote this.

Cheers....

Not speaking of the current set - yes, we do pick and chose and not ALL articles submitted are eventually published. Some have nothing to do with the quality - they may not be appropriate for BC or the article is no longer timely.

We've been very shorthanded - so I am slowly checking off the articles one by one. Thank you all for all your submissions and I believe I have personally responded to all of you. If not, my apologies and do send me a ping via PM or email.

Those articles that we have decided to publish, we are unveiling them as appropriate. For example, Raynman's 2010 review needed to go out day before yesterday. I took some short-cuts during the editing so as to get it out fast.

Some of the other articles in the queue are timeless and we will definitely publish them after the WC.

Right now, we are hoping to get a slew of WC related articles. We are getting ready with a WC preview to be published very soon.

Thanks for your patience. We all have our day jobs and bills and sponsorships to pay. :)
