Pretty much so! The selectors are more likely to have their eyes on Sabbir Rahman in the future, provided he maintains his domestic performance standards up to the mark.

Do you guys think that ash will actually play at number 7 as many of us are saying he should? And I think Shahriar nafees at numbr 4 will be quite good, he is a good player of spin :)

Most of us would agree with the fact that Shahriar Nafees is a good option for no.4. However, in reality, Raqibul will be there to grab that spot due to the fact that he's one of Siddon's favourites! The only chance for him to lose that spot is if he doesn't click in 3/4 consecutive innings.....and in that case, it's more likely that Ash will be chosen ahead of Nafees. SAD BUT TRUE I guess :(

No surprise there. A very defensive squad, as anticipated. Ash was a forced inclusion, Mash was never wanted in the team. Happy that Junaed is in. After Tamim and Shakib he is the only one with real urgency to score some runs. Wishing them all the best to make us proud.

Our Habibul Bashar was once critisized for being selected as a player of our WC squad, was he a looser ? Not everybody could be Shakib or Tamim. and what so speacial about them. What are the last five match score of Tamim in International cricket ? Shakib as a captain lost a game by 10 wkt in DPL a few days ago. Why u guys acting so crazy about only Ash ???

As usual no one to accelerate towards the end. I was hoping they would correct this for the World Cup. Oh well guess we'll have to settle for more 240s when 280+ would have been possible because of a lack of a finisher.

Inclusion of all these 15 members are justified. Over the past two years they were the one who played for our country with heart-out (with exception of Shahriar who was only in NZ series). They were in WI, ZM, ENG and home series. They have the experience of how to fight it and win it. However, our opponents all mapped out our weak points. The less we make mistake the more success we will get. May Allah give our players strength, courage and ability to defeat all our opponents, ameen.

Masha Allah! Right squad picked, possibly, with one exception. I wish Naeem all the best and hope he does well for the country, team and himself. Glad that Mash is not risked and Ash is picked. We needed some experience in a squad which is relatively still very young. Despite not being the most mature person in the world I believe the inclusion of Ash will bring a positive influence on the squad. World Cup is not just another tournament and Ash has seen it all before. He adds extra batting fire-power IF he fires at all. Insha Allah, I have a feeling he WILL fire this time providing he bats at 6/7. I like the inclusion of Shuvo. This boy has a very bright future, insha Allah. At U19 levels he was out-performing (with the ball) Shakib himself. We have to use him just as the genuine third spinner. He would be a much better option than Naeem. Somehow, I still wish Mash recovers in the nick of the time and makes the team. But his longterm career and health is much more important than a World Cup.

Hmmmm...

I had been with the team for over a year and a half. I had seen divisions within the team even then. I am now on the outside - but I do hear things.

If a player is late for practice even with permission, he gets a earful. On the other hand, if another player is late without notice, he gets away with it. That's because he is the coach and captain's favorite.

Ah yes. Dirty laundry. Great time to air it. Just great.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Junaid Siddique, Shahriar Nafees, Raqibul Hasan, Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim, Naeem Islam, Mahmudullah, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Suhrawadi Shuvo.

I like the team overall.... here is why...

1) Tamim Iqbal Khan (vc): Automatic choice.
2) Imrul Kayes: After great 2010... he is set to be Tamims partner.
3) S.Nafees: I think he is the wild card... He scored heavily in domestic. Plus he looks much more mature than before. So lets GO!
4) Mushy Rahim: (wk): Also scored heavy in that position in domestic. Remember 2007 WC?
5) Shakib Al Hasan (c): Automatic choice.
6) Mohammed Ashraful: Dude.. see ball.. hit ball.
7) Nayeem Islam: He is a better bowler than batsman... if top 6 cant do much.. then don't expect much from him. However, looking forward to his tight spinning option.
8) S. shuvo: Exciting and tight bowling!!! Reminds me of Rafique/Sakib/Razzaq combo.
9) Shafiul Islam: Ready to lead the pace attack in absense of Mashrafe. Hope he can hit some runs as well... Jamie, make him into a hard hitter.
10) Abdur Razzak: Time to show Zim wasn't a fluke and u can continue good form.
11) Rubel Hossain: Try him in practice matches to see if he can put the ball on the right spot... otherwise Nazmul.
12) Raqibul Hassan: Back up batsman... fielder.
13) Junaid Siddique: Sorry bro... SN just outdid u in domestic..
14) Nazmul Hossain: 3rd pacer... perhaps 45/55 balance with Rubel just because of the lack of pace.
15) Mahmudullah Riyad: We dont need a batsman in # 7/8.. play him at top 6 or don't play him. His bowling is nowhere close to Naeem.

Missing out players:
1) Mashrafe: Sad.. but the right decision. Mashrafe has another 60 years to live (inshallah)... cricket is not the end of life. He will understand one day... I ask fans to consider this.
2) Jahurul: Feel bad for this guy.... he earned his spot in the team.. but didn't get enough chance... he should've scored few more runs when he had the chance.
3) Kapali: Just few performance in domestic doesn't secure his spot. There was questions about his fitness... He didn't play competitive cricket before that for months if not years.
4) Shabbir: COuld've been a ideal number 7/8... but I feel selectors got it right... WC is not a place to debut.
5) Shuvagoto: THought he could've been a wild card hard hitter same as Shabbir on 7/8... then again..no debutants in WC is good.

It isnt easy to be so close to world cup and miss it. Especially at home ground. All the players that were not included in the final 15 must be bummed because.. after all this is being played at Mirpur where the players know each grass of the field...They were so close yet its so far..

For Mashrafee it is even harder because he just got back his rythm and is losing the spot due to a peculiar kind of injury.. he tried his best to be in the squad.. Our stupid selectors remains dumbos as they are. While injured and recently operated Indian and Australian players are included in the squad, Mashrafee is not. As if the game is starting tomorrow and ends on February 19th. They forgot that there will be 6 matches and the fact that he was already bowling from the 19th makes it pretty clear that he would have been fit in a month... but then again, its a bangladeshi selector, I didnt expect a brain or brilliance from them..

And he also said:

Lets be real here. JS, the selectors and BCB wants us to do well in WC. They are in our team! And they picked the best possible squad. They are happy with it. It's obvious that we all may not agree with it. This wasn't my possible XI either. But we should support the team instead of try and create unnecessary drama.

According to prothom-alo Mushy has a chance to bat at # 4. If he really gets to bat there, then we may have a solid batting order.

"ব্যাটিং অর্ডারে মুশফিক ভাইয়ের (মুশফিকুর রহিম) চারে উঠে আসার একটা সম্ভাবনা আছে। প্রিমিয়ার লিগে উনি চারে ব্যাট করে খুব ভালো করেছেন বলে এই সুযোগটা আমরা নিতে পারি।"

That's good news, but they should have tried it in the last series... I don't think we should be experimenting too much during the world cup.

I've been CRYINGGG for that. Go through my posts.
Dude, I've been crying for it ever since he was 16. Ash/Rock can take a hike. After Imrul and Junaed, we desperately need some stability and rotation of strike in the middle order and Mushy has been the man all along. Moving him around at the management's will throughout his career hasn't allowed him to reach his peak, but I hope the management is finally coming to its senses. Otherwise, *whip* the takla.

It is understood why he is heart broken - playing in own soil is a lifetime opportunity. However, cricket lives in Bangladesh beyond this world cup. Lets hope he can come back in coming series. Mash is not forgotten. Lets hope and pray current team do some justice for their selection. I also hope Mash cheers the team in every match.

Selected 15 should see this and understand what it’s like to have opportunity to play for Bangladesh and not to waste or mess it up, never give or lose hope even at the end.

(There is no way you are 20ish. :-D)

#4 is perfect for Rahim. #3 was always tough for him, or any player for that matter. Siddiqui has done well there. So he stays there. Rahim can't open. I mean he could, but we already (or always) have 3-4 openers and possible openers in squad. #5 is for Shak, and #6 is was always too low for Rahim. He is not a slogger. He is a proper batsman, with good positive mind and techniques. If he gets the time to build his innings, he can score good amount of runs. And if he stays out there till the slog overs, he can even slog then. But asking him to slog from the word go has hurt him a lot. He could be avg above 35 right now.

Can't wait for this to happen!

Rahim joined the squad around WC 07, so that was around 4 years ago. He batted at 3 for a while then at 6. But you couldn't have cried right away, as soon as he joined the squad. So I say add 3 to that 16, so you are 19? But then you could have been 16 years 200 days, so around 20ish. Wait a min something feels wrong. *scrolls down to look at that post again*

Damn it! you said "since HE was 16" I read "since I was 16"

Mushy should never have been removed from number 4.

England in Bangladesh, 2010:
2nd ODI:
Mushfiqur Rahim 76 (88), SR: 86.36

This is the ODI that we should have won had Morgan been given out at least one of the three times he was actually out. So in effect this was a match-winning innings.

3rd ODI:
Mushfiqur Rahim 40 (43), SR: 93.02

And despite this he was pushed back to number 6 in the very next series to accomodate the likes of Rokibul and Ashraful.

Sometimes I wonder what goes on it that "think" tank of ours.

From that article you can tell the differences between the 2. SN seems like a very mature professional who is a very hard worker. It seems that he could go a long way with his good attitude. Good to see he bounced back after the icl exodus. Ash on the other hand doesn't seem to have a good attitude. Ashraful could replace Shuvo with his off spin and bat at No. 7/8 and score more runs than Shuvo could. This would keep Tamim-Imrul-Zunaed-Rakibul-Shakib-Mushfiq-Riad in their usual positions. Putting Ashraful in No 3/4 didn't bring much success.

So, all these journo's are full of just guessing and speculation just like Dhaka Stock Exchange..If you rewind past couple of months.. the final 15 that is announced is pretty much the same 15 anyone could've came up with without any drama or thinking whatsoever.. World cup or a team against Afghanistan-Kenya series, The selectors wouldve picked the same team...

So who was dropped? None.. Who was picked? None.. How did Shubho get it? doesnt matter he was in the last two series, so he is in (He is not the leading wickettaker in DPL anyways)Who is the backup Wicketkeeper? We don't need one, Junaed will figure it out if he is in the playing Xi. Who are the allrounders for powerplay? What is powerplay? we need only 220 runs and dont need power for that..I mean,, the selectors pretty much sipped their tea and was already decided on the 15 and the drama was just for selling news papers..

I feel Mash has a fare share in making all the hoopla. He cannot just accept he is out of the WC team. Why it is so hard! Can you remember when was the last time you play a full series? When was the last time you were injury free for a good amount of time? If you look back in last two years or so, you will find majority of time you were injured and in rehabilitation process.

Except that this time he should stay in #7 and let others hold onto their own positions!

a batsman of any real class should average 40+ from #7 with a healthy dose of not outs. may not get to play many MoM worthy knocks, but his avg should be solid.

if Ash can do that for the next year or two, and if someone needs to get the boot from no. 4 (Rock, whoever) then perhaps he can be promoted. but he has to earn it. even the great tendulkar batted at #6 in the test lineup for a long while.

i want to see mushy settle into the #4 i know he can be. SN perhaps will take no 3, fight out with Jahirul (but i know Siddons will want sissy Junaid). so ideally...

I don't think going with three pacers would be wise under our conditions... We have always relied on spinners to do the job so why change a formula that has been successful in the past. We know India are better players of spin... but on our flat pitches they will be even more dangerous for our medium pacers...

I think playing Shuvo would mean that our tail will be a bit long... we would have Rubel, Shafiul, razzak and shuvo as the last four batters and thats a problem... Suppose we need 70 off the last 10... banking on these guys to get it for us won't be possible...

This is why I foresee Mahmudullah and Naeem both playing in the lineup along with Shakib and Razzak

so the squad i wud like to see is:
1. Tamim
2. Kayes
3. Nafees
4. Mushfiq
5. Shakib
6. Mahmudullah
7. Ashraful
8. Naeem
9. Razzak

One of Nafees/Zunaid will make in final 11, Nafees being 1st choice.
One of Ash/Rock will make in final 11, Ash being 1st choice.

Two of Mullah/Nayeem/Shuvo will make in final 11, Mullah & Nayeem being 1st choice.
Two of Shafiul/Rubel/Nazmul will make in final 11, Shafiul & Rubel being first choice.

Rest combinations of above players should depend on their performance in WC games, and should be as simple as that.
