Pakistan should bat first if they win the toss to make ful use of 50 overs .Gul and shoaib, younis and misbah should be rested and should play much harder game against England. However Junaid khan is a difinite pick.I've heared a lot about this young exciting left armer.Ajmal also needs some match practice.

This will be the test for batsmen and Powerplay. Without a good PP it is almost impossible to beat an aggressive team like Pakistan.
Our pacers will have to push hard as spin isnt going to be as effective against Pakistan.
Please Shakib, Let mahmudullah bowl more... how much more does he need to do to prove he is a great bowler?

I just hope and pray that he's not gonna be the usual ''Javed Omar Riad'' during the batting powerplay or the later stages of the innings!

On a serious note, however, he may not be a great bowler, but yeah he's definitely better than Shuvo I would imagine. He was unlucky not to have given the ball on his hands on a much more regular basis recently, but whenever he was introduced, he kinda gave us a breakthrough. So yeah, I think ''Captain Fantastic'' should look up to this matter this time.

Bat first put 300 on the board and spin them out for less than 200. Dew or no dew Shakib and Razzak should be unplayable. Shafiul will give us early breakthroughs and Rubel will blast out the lower order.

That he can. The man may be a major typoist, but he still knows what he's thinking. And when he thinks ban, it's hardly ever a miss.

Now an obligatory on-the-topic comment: If we can't beat Pakistan, we're royally screwed, as far as our chances of going all the way are concerned. But if we want to remain content with losing to associates and finishing bottom of the table, then they may as well let Ashraful and Raqibul open tomorrow. :D

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/259551.html Profile.

Here is his profile....Seems to be a very fine bowler. Just read on the cricinfo.

Former Test spinner and selector Iqbal Qasim, who first picked him for junior level, believes he has immense potential and was impressed initially by his pace as well as stamina. Some observers, at that early stage, felt Khan might make it to the national side before Amir, though he hasn't, they say, developed as swiftly. But he has been playing for the Pakistan A side regularly now, and is familiar at least with where Pakistan will play their first game of the World Cup: last September he took nine wickets in a 'Test' against Sri Lanka A in Hambantota.

Personally I would depend more on Nafees than on Zunaid. Nafees should at least be tried in the practice match. And, Ash is definitely better than Raqibul at no 6 as a gambling wicket that might click sometime. Lets see how it rolls out tomorrow.

Prevention? You mean to say no other sub-continent country has dew?
Dew factor is part of game. It doesn't require super sponge/super sob, unless you want to play in indoor stadium.

Match preview from Facebook
Bangladesh Vs Pakistan

Are we back in 1971? No, but this game will hold a prejudiced rivalry between the 2 South Asian countries. While Bangladesh is expected to perform moderate in the world cup, Pakistan remains a mystery and an unexpected team. Although this practices match, both team will look forward to performing here because this ought to be even matchup. Bangladesh will look to go into the world cup with 2 victories while Pakistan will want to make a good start to their world cup campaign.

Team News

Bangladesh:

Nothing went wrong during their match against Canada. They finished the game with barely any competition due to their strong bowling attack while the dashing opener Tamim Iqbal finished the job in a hurry. This helped their already strong confidence as they take on Pakistan. However, their powerplay solution and their batting order is yet to be tested which they will look forward to in tomorrow’s game. Powerplay handling will be crucial in the world cup specially against aggressive teams like Pakistan. Bangladesh would feel a lot more confident going into the world cup knowing they finally got a replacement for the allrounder Mashrafee Mortaza. Their pace attack including Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain and Nazmul Hossain showed top class bowling and had every variation a pace attack needs to be successful. So will Pont’s prediction of the pace attack being equally important come true? Well pace attack will definitely the key as Pakistan is no chokers against spin.

Pakistan:

This is the side that is a danger to everyone in the world cup at their best days. Their all round attack like Bangladesh is aggressive and almost always is the key to their success. While Shahid Afridi is very optimistic of Pakistan going into the semi-finals, he knows it is not going to be easy. Their new pace attack remains a mystery for the world cup as Pakistan misses the talented Mohammed Amir, Mohammed Asif. However, their fans will see hope as the speed king Shoib Akhter leads the attack with Umar Gul. So the question remains, will they be able to stop the ferocious Tamim Iqbal? Pakistan hopes to continue their form recently against the Kiwis throughout the world cup and create some stability within the team and boost their morale.

Watch out for!

Tamim Iqbal:The opener and vice captain of Bangladesh that is not scared of any bowlers in the world. It will be every body’s mind the promise Tamim Iqbal made about making his first century of the tournament in his home town Chittagong. So will he fulfill his promise against Pakistan? Well the condition is set up for him as a big total from Bangladesh is expected in tomorrow’s game. Having won his coach confidence and earned the right to play absolute independent cricket, this young opener feels much more freedom which is likely to reflect on his batting. Pakistan will have to work an extra to get rid of this tiger because the alternative could be disastrous for them.

Shahid Afridi: The captain and the finisher for Pakistan. Afridi has a lot of responsibility under his belt. He not only needs to guide the whole team and try to regroup but also perform both with the ball and bat. While Shahid Afridi is inconsistent, at his best days he punishes every bowler with his fireworks. A good aggressive performance will definitely help their batting order. Shahid Afridi will look to continue his late form against the Kiwis. His brilliant knocks helped Pakistan sealed the series. Afridi will also need to provide some bowling attack as he remains the most experienced all rounder of the team.

Squad:

Bangladesh:
It became rather obvious that Coach Siddons simply does not want change and prefers stability. Well why not as he continues to be successful with his carefully controlled squad. It is unlikely that any changes would be made although players like Shahriar Nafees badly need some match practice.

Tamim Iqbal (VC)
Imrul Kayes
Junaid Siddique
Mushfiqur Rahim (Wk)
Shakib Al Hasan (Capt)
Mahmudullah Riyad
Naeem Islam
Abdur Razzaq
Shafiul Islam
Nazmul Hossain
Rubel Hossain

If they decide to play with 12 squad, Mohammed Ashraful is likely to get the call.

Pakistan:
Pakistan will also want to continue their current squad which have been very successful recently. A slight change is although expected as the fast bowler Sohail Tanvir is missing due to injury. Pakistan will undoubtedly want to test their rookie Junaid Khan.

Mohammed Hafeez
Ahmed Shehzad
Kamran Akmal (Wk)
Misbah ul Haque (Vc)
Younis Khan
Umar Akmal
Shahid Ahridi (Capt)
Abdul Razzaq
Shoib Akhter
Umar Gul
Junaid Khan

Interesting fact: The “projapoti” delivery invented by Ian Pont and Julien Fountain is yet to be seen in action by the fast bowlers. There is a possibility of seeing that invention in tomorrow’s match.

I am hoping to see us get meaningful batting practice in this one with the intended batting order. I think the bowlers will keep it simple, for the simple purpose of not showing India our hand in the deck. So, if the bowlers get a little stick, I won't be terribly worried, but our batsmen need some meaningful time in this game. Practice matches scare the hell out of me for fielding sides. Your instinct is not go 100% on the field to save yourself from possible injuries, and more often that's when injuries occur. So, get some batting practice, keep vanilla with the ball, and hopefully get out of the game without any mishaps.

BD needs to play for win always including match against Pakistan. Thereafter, any weakness that may arise should be addressed.

If there is no 100% effort, you can't assess really, can you? However, a win will not give any indication of winning against India or vice versa.

Seaman, from my point of view, in order to win against India, we have to play our absolute best and India it's mediocre game on Sat. It's a tall task. Whether there are video footage or not, and I am sure India will keep an eye on the game somehow, I think the less we show against Pak is better in this case, which may or may not give us a competitive advantage. Winning or losing vs Pak has zero implications for the match vs India.

Really, at this point in the game, video footage will not win or lose the game for us. Ability to execute on our plans will. Against India this means:
1) Pacers don't let She-wag and G^2 get to a fast start. Ideally we grab one of them and Kohli in the opening 10-15 overs
2) Spinners keep tight and force them to take risks. Plus a few jaffas
3) We execute to our plan during batting powerplay and blow slowers and yorkers, etc.

Really simple if you think about it :)

The game does not start till early morning here in the US.
However, the ZIM-IRE game starts at 11PM EST. I will be eager to see how Ireland performs today. Their 277 against NZ got me little concerned. I did not expect them to bat like this in subcontinetal conditions. They showed strong batting against NZ, but gave away 4 wickets to Vettori. Considering the number of spinning options, ZIM has better resources than NZ. So it will be interesting to see how IRE fares today against Ray Price, Cremer etc.

must have been a flat indian wicket unlike the one where IND-AUS played. either that or the NZ were just going through the motions after piling up 310 due to being warm up. fielders and bowlers prolly took it easy to avoid injuries.

remember we gave up 265 to Canada in a warm up...and we beat NZ too, only to get hammered by the kiwis in the super 8s.

ireland with Morgan were soundly thrashed 3-0 last time in BD. they have some exciting new players in stirling and dockrell, but still.

I have a concern that how much video footage of Irish palyers is available to our coaches for analysis of their recent performances.......If the warm-up matches were telecast, it could have been easier for our coaches to address their strengths & weakness based on recent match...
However I feel our spinners will easily crack the Irish batting order... :fanflag:

The downfall of Aus was because of all these overload of video footage, and non-cricketing matab-borri. Go out there and play some damn cricket. (Not word per word but his main idea converted into my tone).

Since when cricket became so depended on video footage? If 90% of the game is played on the mind then what are the percentage of video footages making a difference in the result of a game? You can stuff the players with video footage, but he can't win you matches unless he scores or picks up wickets. Yes, video footage does help, but it's not the MAIN idea of how to win a match.
