View Full Version : Your preferred new ball openers?

Mashrafe is not available. Rubel was expensive in both practice matches esp. the latter giving away 73 runs despite bagging three wickets (which I read were tails). Do you still believe Rubel should open given he is wayward with the new ball?

My personal preference should be a three-pincer combo with Rubel, Nazmul and Shafiul given we go with all these pacers in the team. That way Rubel would not get too many overs to be expensive.

Yes, granted stats don't give a true picture and yes, Rubel is devastating with the old ball, but would you still want to open with him?

Thoughts?

Don't open with pace from the other end, start spinning with razzak from one end and shafiul from the other end.

i think we should operate with sofi and nazmul with the new ball and let rubel operate with the old ball..this strategy is only for india..i still think we should go with 3 spinners vs sa/enf/wi which leaves out nazmul of the team

Pace on one side... Shafiul is your man...
Spin on the other... Razzak is your man...

voted for Shafiul and Nazmul. Both earn early wicket.

Wait....you guys really wanna open with spin (Razzak) in PP overs versus likes of Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir?

I wanted Shafiul and Mash but for now Shafiul and nazmul. Rubel is more effective with the old ball

Shafi and Rubel without any doubt. Nazmul is a hit-me bowler.

Shafi-Naz to open, Rubel as the first change against India.

Shafi-Raz to open, Rubel as the first change against all other teams.

I really wanted to see more of Nazmul in these two practice games. He seems to keep things pretty tight. He reminds me of Rasel in the same way Shafiul reminds me of Mashrafe. Rubel can't keep giving away a run a ball even though he's been amongst the wickets... Rubel should come in first change, but I don't think we can afford to carry three pacers. Its tricky.

Man... I'd have loved to see Nazmul get a couple more overs today...

Rubel will get hammered by Shewag and co all over the place. I would bring in Rubel as first change bowler, or operate him in the middle over and maybe later on at the end if a lot of wickets are down cause he can clean up the tail.

I hope Bangladesh use Shafiul, Nazmul, Rubel, Shakib and Razzak as the 5 bowlers. India are the best at playing spin so I don't want to see Riyad, Naeem, Shuvo etc getting demolished by the Indian batsmen. Shakib and Razzak are two of the best ODI bowlers so they should be good enough to limit the Indians. I want to see Shafiul and Nazmul open the bowling and also these two should be bowling the "death overs". Rubel should predominately bowl late on when the old ball is reversing. With Razzak and Shakib filling in the middle overs. Something such as this:-

0-14 overs: Shafiul (7), Nazmul (7)
15- 20 overs: Razzak (3), Rubel (3)
21-30 overs: Razzak (5), Shakib (5)
31-34 overs: Razzak (2), Rubel (2)
34-44 overs: Shakib (5), Rubel (5)
45-50 overs: Nazmul (3), Shafiul (3)

I voted for Shafiul and Nazmul. Rubel has not yet found his touch after the most recent injury.....and we shouldn't take chance with Rubel against the Indians in the WC opener.

ofcourse we should give rubel atleast one or two overs when the ball is shiny and sometimes he'll surprise us if he's in good rythm like the nz game.against india, nazmul 'll get hammered more than rubel.
