I think that was what made the difference today. Against NZ and ZIM we were in some tight situations but managed to win. This gave us the idea about how to keep our head cool in these situations.

IRE fan must be feeling what we used to feel so often, losing a crucial game from a winning position.

So, in my mind there was two valuable lessons to be learn from today's game:

1) It is important to have the winners mentality.
2) We have vast area of improvements. If we did not get the pitch the way it suit us, the Irish would give us some very good run for our money.

There is also a side note to the lesson store:

a) Do not waste your referral against Alam Dar.

What carried the Tigers through was they earned that winners mentality in the New Zealand series - the knowledge that when the chips are down that we can win.

The Tigers always knew a winners mentality was important, and now they have it.

Remember, this game wasnt about creating upset, which is something the Tigers have been able to do for a decade or so. This game was about *preventing* an upset, and todays game was a good example of how a cool head and belief can be kept.

I never thought I'd say this, but Mohammed Ashraful scored one run and had a great game.

This is one of the important areas we have improved 'winning from a losing position'. And this the real difference between current Team and previous team when we used to lose from the winning situation.

Shakib was great with his way of rotating the bowlers. Great captaincy during the bowling session. Against New Zealand also we defended low totals.

I totally agree with you. Having a winners mentality definitely helps. But not when it turns into over-confidence.

The players should keep a winners mentality while remembering that there is still alot more work left and not just give up/choke (like our ever famous collapses) halfway.

Agreed, We are fighting till the end. Our boys now believe they can change the game at any time of the match.

They believe and so should we. Just they need to believe in their batting.

TBH after our batting I did not believe.

I was thinking the same.
And my fellow students have the same opinion as well :)

Just after that 14 runs over, the equation looked like -

End of over 33 (14 runs) Ireland 140/5
(66 runs required from 17 overs with 5 wickets on hand)
(RR: 4.24, RRR: 3.88)
KJ O'Brien 33* (29b 3x4 1x6)
AC Botha 6* (15b 1x4)

Most importantly, IRE needed only 41 runs in last 10 overs with 4 wickets in hand. This was brilliant to see how Shafiul's bowling was talking at that time. He is an art to watch (when it works)! He did it before, he has done it again. I still can not understand how on earth TIK was elected as MOM (not that I care a lot). His final spell was 6-1-10-4!! Dream run!!

To make winning a habit, we just need more match winners. 1 more match winner in the side now, and most importantly, with ball.

Shakib is not a good tactician. Yet. But, he is getting better.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is a hard habit to break. But, we have made strides.

Learning to win is the key. A few decades ago, India was a laughing stock of cricket. The same was true for Pak and SL. Somethings take time, hard work, and morale-crushing defeats.
