Junaid's 30 -35 runs anyday over Ashraful's 1 or 5. Also Junaid is a pretty sharp slip fielder whereas Ashraool will atleast drop 2-3 catches and make someone run out. Fool never changes. :notworthy:

Those saying WI don't have any motivating factors are very very wrong...If they qualify 4th, they are probably going to have to face Australia...

If I were the Windies, I'd be busting my gut, trying to ensure I faced one of the more mercurial teams in the group(who I might catch on a bad day, and enhance my chances of progressing further in the tournament.)

I also think England will win, but it won't be because the Windies lack motivation.

As for us, who knows....after the beatdown WI gave us, all I wanted was for us not to be equally inept against England, and the team surprised a lot of us, by winning. So I suppose, as unlikely as it is, I dream of yet another upset.

The South African team that played against India looks unbeatable by Bangladesh. SA really has to perform way below their mark and Bangladesh has to play even better to have a chance for Bangladesh.

Cannot miss catches like we did today. Cannot just bowl and expect the batsmen to make the mistake. Have to bowl wicket taking deliveries. Have to find gaps by using the wrist and footwork.

A few things. If SA wins against Ireland, they will be on a more relaxing mode because they will be already thru. Secondly, the pitch that they played against India suits them, and not going to be the pitch at Dhaka. Not to mention, we'll have the army of SLA's to suit the pitch that India did not have. So, if we play at the best of our potential, we can challenge them regardless of their level of play.

Tamim and Shakib needs to fire and we'll have a game on our hand. It SHOULD not be a walk in the park for SA.

SA will still go for the win to top the chart and play the number 4 of the other group, they do not want to play Australia/SL in QF.

The ball movement by Steyn, Morkel worries me. Our batsmen still not up there to face such moving deliveries. Their reflexes are not that quick yet.

Win the toss...i say bat first, try getting around 230/240 mark, should be enough on a mirpur pitch and defend it...moreover, i guess Tsotsobe will be played against us, given our relative weakness against left arm pacers...

SA could not chase 161 even after 1st wicket partnership of 60+....we can take a lot of inspiration from that game....

South Africa crumbled against England 170 and we beat England pretty fair and square. We did beat South Africa before. They have very fe weaknesses. But they have one that is massive,,, they choke. The real threat is Ab Devilliears and Duminy,, if we can contain them with some magical butterfly spell or something called Arm ball ( that we forgot almost), we are in contention.. South Africa is the semi-finalist team and beating them isnt the easisest task but that's what World Cup is all about,,, any given day any team can 'Choke' :)

What will be the key factor to negotiate SAF?- Steyn n Morkel? (bar our usual team idiosyncracies)

South Africa is a team that has all their departments pretty much to notch. They have the number 1 and number 2 batsman ( #1-Amla, #2-De Villears), best bowlers ( #2-Steyn, #3-Morkel), best allrounder(Jaques Kalls) and as a whole they are the most strongest team Bangladesh will face on the 19th. From bowling side, our bowlers will do well in going for wicket to wicket or extreme spin but for batters,,, the players really have to go with the Aussie, SL, SAF approach of batting slow for the first 20 overs and then start to play. Even Tamim's license should be revoked so that he can also start his game after 10 overs when Morkel/Steyn is off...

And how many players think BD can beat SA? I highly doubt the WI players will be losing sleep abt that game.

To put it simply if Eng loses that game they r out for good but WI can still go through even after losing that game.

Its a knockout game for england & after losing against BD they will come hard

Agree SA is packed with top class cricketer and this will be the most hardest game for BD...they need a big plan to tackle them...though we are trying our best to go through the wining instead of relying on a game...we should just think about the must win and play our best...I don't want to make comments about WI and Eng game...but as mentioned earlier for Eng it is a must win game for them...so I think they will give their 100% and will win the match whereas WI has options

Do you guys think South Africa will be playing the revenge match like India did, beating Bangladesh in front of their home crowd for the loss in 2007 World Cup?

Batting wise the South African team is more or less the same as in 2007 (inclusion of Amla,Duminy, exclusion of Gibbs). Bowling wise it is much stronger with younger and faster bowlers like Steyn, Morkel, Tahir, Tsotsobe and Botha. The 2007 bowling of SA were hitting the retirement age.

So what is the strategy, bowl first, bat first, what we can defend and how many we can chase? What are the weakness of South Africa we should focus on? The only thing that South Africa lacks is after Botha departs, they hardly have anyone to put runs on board or chase a target.

SS
March 14, 2011, 02:55 PM
This will be a completely different game than last few games that we won in WC. This will be a game like we played with Ind. Ateleast our batsmen clicked on that game. It will be a high scoring match and our bowlers will not be lucky like last game. Our missfileders will cost us the entire game and our batters will experience world class bowlings. At this point, we can all hope for the best and hope our batters won't give away their wickets and spinners will not leak too many runs and get crucial wickets when it it is needed...on skill level we are no where near to Proteas but on that day if all our players can give all their best and play their best games..something can happen...In this world cup I only see few players perform to that level but shocked to see many players still riding on contributions from other key players or combine team effort. Non performs have to contribute more.

And how many players think BD can beat SA? I highly doubt the WI players will be losing sleep abt that game.

To put it simply if Eng loses that game they r out for good but WI can still go through even after losing that game.

Its a knockout game for England & after losing against BD they will come hard
<br />Posted via BC Mobile Edition (Opera Mobile)

So you think the WI players wouldn't be that bothered losing to Eng, as they can easily beat India, and if they don't beat India, no problem as Bangladesh have no chance against SA, who possibly might already be through and so might rest a few key players?

I know the WI have a stereotype of being chilled out but i think they might prefer to beat England first and then relax, rather than relax first then lose to England, hope to beat India, and if that fails then hope Bangladesh don't beat a weakened SA side

I think WI will take revenge for stone throwing in their bus and will lose to England.

So we better win against SA, if we want to go to the next level.

South Africa lost to England against quality bowling of Bresnan and Broad. We do not have their equivalent in our team yet.

Rubel might be expensive against South Africa, since his line has not been that sharp, most of the yorkers are sliding down the leg side. May be we should have tried Nazmul today. I do not like experiment or changing player combination every other match but I will not be surprised if we even go without Rubel and have all spinners against South Africa.

It SHOULD not be a walk in the park for SA.

yes YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!

BD needs to review the game against IND, where it went wrong. BD needs contain SAF. They will emulate IND against us. However, there are 2 folds of problem playing against SAF - 1 SAF has as good batting unit as IND and they have even better bowling unit than IND. Bangladesh not only has contain them, also bat well, every player has bat good.

Inshallah we'll win. Shahkib, please refrain from using negative words like "nervous" or "thought we would lose" ... like shot selection - word selection is equally important. Especially when you are a captain, you will radiate positive energy in your words and in body language. Lot of your fans are still disappointed because of your gesture to public but you can easily set it aside by apologizing to the fans. Nothing wrong to say sorry even it's not your fault. It shows strong leadership.

Daaamn, this is some match thread!

Bismillah! Allah Malik!

Go Panthera Tigris Tigris!
Go Bangladesh! :flag:

Bengal Tiger - Panthera tigris tigris
http://www.tigerhomes.org/animal/curriculums/images/bengal-tiger-pc.jpg

The Bengal Tiger is a strikingly beautiful and regal animal. The Bengal Tiger is the second largest cat alive today with males weighing an average of 440 lbs and they have been recorded to reach over 10' in length. However, a male Bengal Tiger was killed in 1967 weighing a tremendous 857 pounds! CLICK HERE TO SEE ANIMAL WEBCAMS

The Bengal Tiger population is the largest of any of the five remaining subspecies alive today. It is speculated that there are approximately 3000 to 4800 Bengal Tigers existing in the wild today. The Bengal Tiger is a highly adaptable feline with living in a wide range of habitats. The majority of live in the hot steamy mangrove swamps of the Sunderbans in Bangladesh and India. The Sunderbans is the largest patch of mangrove forest in the world providing cover and the prey necessary for the Bengal tigers to survive in the wild. These animal range as far as the high cold altitudes of the Himalayan forests in the wild and sparse populations do exist today through Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Efforts are currently being made to take an adequate census of the animals population in India by physical sightings in this rugged, dense terrain by the tracking and study of their pug marks which are unique to each animal. Scientists have also used infrared cameras whereby the animals trigger a "self portrait". These camera "traps" are strategically positioned along their normal territory bounds which the tiger is known to patrol on a routine basis.

The Bengal Tiger subspecies prefers to hunt large prey like the sambar deer and wild cattle. The Bengal Tiger has also been observed hunting and eating pigs, monkeys, birds and even snakes! Even in India, encroachment by humans and loss of natural prey due to habitat destruction, domestic livestock now factors as an ever increasing part of their diet. In extremely rare instances because of this conflict with humans and destruction of the Bengal Tiger's natural habitat and resulting lack of prey, some weak and elderly animals have been known to become "man-eaters" which is very rare. Of all of the five living subspecies, the Bengal Tiger has the worst reputation as a "Man Eater"! Jim Corbett, the author of Man-Eaters of Kumaon, states that no more than three out of one thousand tigers were guilty of attacking humans. The culprits of human attacks were in most cases geriatric or injured cats, living in areas with diminished natural prey. In most cases, the tigers kill adult male humans traveling through the mangrove forests. Since tigers are hunters based on vulnerability, they attack the last person in line traveling amongst the group. It is standard practice now for the person last in line to wear a mask with bold eyes wide-open staring backwards to ward off the risk of any attack. This reduces the tiger's ability to stalk the men because it appears is if the human is looking in both directions. As funny as this mask wearing technique may seem, when used it has proven to reduce attacks to ZERO!

Bengal tigers have been hunted heavily by poachers for their fur and tigers body parts are sold as medicine in China. Conservation and efforts are being made to protect the Bengal Tiger by the WPSI (The Wildlife Protection Society of India) and they have realized the extreme value of preserving this subspecies in their natural environment. Many people travel to India from all over the world to have a chance to observe and photograph these magnificent animals in the wild. This form of economic stimulation, called EcoTourism is a growing source of revenue for the Indian people. There are also many international captive breeding programs in place to secure a genetically sound future for the Bengal Tiger.

Scientific Name: Panthera tigris tigris
Range & Habitat: Primarily the mangrove swamps, humid forest and swamplands of the Sunderbans in India. Sparse populations exist in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and China.
Average Weight:
Female: 125 -147kg (275-325 pounds)
Male: 172-238kg (380-525 pounds)
Size (Length):
Female: 2.3m - 2.9m (7'-0" - 8'- 8")
Male: 2.5m - 3.2m (8'-7" - 10'- 0")
Diet: All tigers are carnivorous. Bengal Tiger prefer to hunt large prey like the sambar deer and wild cattle. They will however hunt and consume a wide variety of hooved mammals (ungulates) including deer, antelope, wild boar, wild pigs etc. The nature of the Tiger's hunting method and prey availability results in a "feast or famine" feeding style . Tigers gorge themselves often consuming 40-60 lbs of meat at one time as they may not be successful hunting again for several days.
Gestation Period: 100-119 Days (Averaging 103 Days)
Cub Maturity: 18 months - 2 Years
Cubs Per Litter: (Usually 2-3 cubs) Cubs are born blind and weigh 2-3 pounds. 18-26 month intervals.
Lifespan: 14-18 Years
Predators: Man. Particularly in the remaining Tiger subspecies, by poaching the tiger particularly in the Asian marketplace in spite of its protected status as an Endangered Species. Tigers are illegally poached for their beautiful fur and body parts. Tigers are revered to have mystical, magical powers by ancient culture and every single part of the tiger is used in the illicit markets that threaten their survival.
Social Structure: Solitary, except during mating season. Male territory may sometimes overlap.
Territory Size: 400km (250 miles)
Population (Wild): 3,000 - 4,800 primarily in India
Captive (SSP): 1,200 In 1995 the U.S. government wildlife management agencies formed the "Save the Tiger Fund" to protect wild tiger populations. To date, the fund has spent U.S. $10 million dollars on tiger research and conservation, funding 196 programs in 13 countries.
Conservation Status: CITES Appendix 1. (All wildcats are listed on CITES Appendix I or II). All tigers were protected under the auspices of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 although this is difficult to enforce and poaching continues to this day. It was recently estimated that there is at least one tiger a day being killed in India for trade on the black market by poachers.
Special Mention: India has an extensive conservation program which includes Corbett National Park, where there are over 100 Bengal Tigers. Tiger conservation programs are in place in Ranthambore National Park, and Kanha National Park in India. Along with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), India has set up "Project Tiger" a nationwide project to help the preservation and conservation of tigers in the wild.

Just realised this...

if Eng gets beaten on Thursday, we must lose this match 'deliberately' to be on the fourth place and play in Dhaka to face the Aussies :D
if Eng wins it, we will have to beat SA, then we will be in the third place and have to face SL in Colombo.

I would rather face any team in the home soil and in Colombo!!

S Africa has comprehensively beaten the Irish and has progressed to the quarter finals. I am hearing S africa is planning to rest a couple of bowlers for the match against Bangladesh. I think Tahir and Steyn won't play. Sotsobe will come in . I really really hope De villiers won't be risked against us. If that is the case, we should have a 60% chance of winning this. At the press breifing, Smith sounded like he is not worried about the BD match. He said that their part for reaching Quarter final is done and they want to focus on the other matches,, something sort of that. Today, they didnt play their pacers much either which could be a hint that they did take the game easily and preparing already for the QF matches. I dont think South Africa will be wanting to lose but BD match is their perfect occassion to try their reserve players,,,just as we did against the Dutch..

Amla, Smith, Kallis, Duminy will defintely go for big ones against us...and now the new ones vanwyk, F du Plessis, Ingram are really good too...pretty much all their 7 batsmen can play spin and also score and in Mirpur I don't think that will be an exception as they adjusted pretty well in all sorts of pitch...they are no longer chokers!...so I wish they are kind enough to rest some of the key batters and including giving break to Steyn and Morkel..(amar mama barir updar)

I say play 40 overs of spin and starve the Saffer chokers of runs. Play Shak, Raj, Naeem and Riyadh. No Shuvo as the Saffers have a good mix of lefties and right-hand bats. Also drop Rubel, bring in Nazmul, take pace off the ball and bowl straight as s***. Restrict RSA for 200-250 runs in 50 overs and then set ourselves up for a Tamim/Imrul special.

PS We better not be playing on the same pitch as vs. IND!!! I want the same pitch as we had vs. IRL.

We give the springboard to Eoin Morgan, Harmison, Lehman and other likes...I just hope that we don't do that on the 19th and give birth to our own stars of Shafiul, Nazmul, Nafees...:)

If Nafees, Ashraful, Shubho got a chances,, Nazmul deserves one too. The problem is Rubel and Shafiul are both doing really well with the ball... unless WI beats England where the SA match becomes academic, I dont see how Nazmul will get a chance. But I agree that he is the one that SA has not yet researched on and could be the factor that bring wickets. Besides, he is a good hitter of a ball too..

yes. a very good idea indeed.

However, I want to also play Naeem Islam. He hasn't been praised much in BanglaCricket but Alhamdulillah! i think he has done a FANTASTIC job with the ball this world cup in every game he has played. his off-spin could be very handy.(we would have a nice attack with a lot of variations!)

Tamim
Imrul
Riyad(he should bat up the order...he is more of a partnership builder than a PP slogger)
Nafees
Rahim
Shakib
Naeem
Shafiul
Razzak
Rubel
Nazmul

12th man: SunnahMan

Ashraful, Roqibul, Junaid

I am playing with less batsmen this time because many times we have a top order/middle order batsmen who is a walking wicket anyway. so why waste a spot?

If junaid is included he should demote to #6/7 i feel he is the answer to our powerplay problems :)

I also think Mahmudullah should bat high up the order, but I think we should just leave things as it is for now, lets' keep the same team that beat Netherland. Junaid Siddiqui hasnt done that poor at 3, he gets good starts, can play aggresively, can take the game to the opisition, I think he has done ok at 3. Going with 3 sla could be a good thing cause south africa has quite alot right-handed batsmen in their batting line-up.

If we win the toss (InshAllah bangladesh will) then I think we should bowl 1st, I think we are better at chasing.

I think WI will take revenge for stone throwing in their bus and will lose to England.

So we better win against SA, if we want to go to the next level.

:-/
a. Mature people don't think that way.
b. Professional sportsmen don't play that way.
c. WI players do not confuse a few whack-jobs with real fans or fans of any sort with the country they are playing against or the country with the team they are competing with.

Bad news

South Africa expect to be back to full strength for their final group match against Bangladesh on Saturday. AB de Villiers, Imran Tahir and Dale Steyn have recovered from their respective injuries and will undergo fitness tests on Friday to confirm their availability.

"We will have a fully fit 15-man squad to choose from," Mohammed Mossajee, the team manager, said in Dhaka. "It's been a busy couple of days managing everyone but they're all fine now."

Whatever is supposed to happen, will happen. Just go out there and support and cheer...from the last ball till the last bal...

The victory wont depend on your going or not....but your cheering will make a difference. Perhaps a world of difference.

Screw those who talk about the jinx.

lol wtf man dont be silly, go for the match! Have people here gone Insane?! You're telling someone not to go to watch a match coz of some silly made up superstition?! This may be BD's last match in this WC, you should definately go, can't believe people are so superstitious here, and so selfish too...millions of people(like me) would die for a opportunity to watch a BD WC match but cant coz of certain reasons-no ticket, no holiday to fly to BD,etc, and you're telling someone with a ticket to not go?! Simply Insane and really selfish...If Allah wills it we will win Inshallah, whether you go or dont go doesnt make a difference to the result, we need your support

ps. people ought to believe in only Allah and his will, not some superstition or jinx, that would be shirk

Of all the teams we planned to beat, South Africa was not in there. Before the cup even started, we wanted to avoid South Africa. And fate and our own efforts ( or lack thereof) has brought us here. Now, we are at a point where we will win to go to the Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals or we lose and start our remorse....Simple as that.

Every game is a new game, every day is a new day.. Maybe this is the day that we see Tamim, Razzaque and Shakib flares up their brilliance.. or maybe this is the day not to be...
