Sarker discontent at ticketing issues

Sports Minister Ahad Ali Sarker yesterday thanked all related to the ICC World Cup for the successful completion of Bangladesh's part but vowed to form a probe committee to explore the World Cup tickets scam and the failure of the national team in two matches.

more (http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesign/news-details.php?nid=179526)

But this is really why:

Sarker however, seemingly felt insulted that he was not treated properly and given proper honour by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He was not asked to attend any prize giving ceremony of World Cup matches and he was given only one ticket of the third quarterfinal match.

Poor man. Given only one ticket. All those real fans who lined up for hours and did not get a ticket should be given a cricket bat and show our esteemed minister what they think of him getting even ONE ticket.

World Cup cricket: Bangladesh probe into team failure

By Ethirajan Anbarasan
BBC News, Dhaka

Bangladesh did win matches against the Netherlands, Republic of Ireland and England

An investigation is to be launched into the Bangladeshi cricket team's failures at the cricket World Cup, the government has announced.

The team managed to beat England but was trounced by the West Indies and also lost to South Africa and India in their first round matches.

Bangladesh are one of the co-hosts of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Eight matches were staged there.

The other hosts, India and Sri Lanka, did qualift for the knock-out phase.

The Bangladeshi team came in for strong criticism after they were bundled out for just 58 runs by the West Indies. Later, South Africa bowled them out for just 78.

On a more positive note, in addition to their famous win over England they also recorded victories against the Netherlands and Republic of Ireland.

It meant they narrowly missed out on a spot in the quarter-finals.

'Debacle'

"We are trying to find the causes behind these humiliating defeats. We shall take necessary measures to overcome these weaknesses," Bangladesh state minister for sports, Ahad Ali Sarkar, said.

"We will certainly investigate into the reasons behind the debacle. We also want to see the Bangladesh Cricket Board to be more transparent and accountable," Mr Sarkar said.

The defeat by West Indies also sparked angry reactions among fans who stoned a bus carrying the West Indies team.

Officials said the fans thought the Bangladeshi team was on the bus instead.

"It will be good if they find any fault," Mohammad Ashraful, one of the senior players in the Bangladeshi cricket team, told the BBC. But he refused to comment further.

Meanwhile Bangladeshi Cricket Board officials said there was no need for any inquiry as success and failures are part of any sport.

"There is no need for any inquiry. The Cricket board will discuss with the players and try to find out reasons for the shortcomings and we will address those issues," Mr Manzur Ahmed, the chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board told the BBC Bengali service.

"If the government formally approaches us with any questions then we will respond to them," he said.

fault,"
What on earth did Sir Ashraful mean by that! They ll find faults, few players will be thrown out of the team and he will get into the team cheaply. Is this what he wants? Well, thats so not gonna happen sir ash!

And divided they fall! Nice to see Phor-Tu-Jiru 1 breaking ranks with Phor-Tu-Jiru 2. I wonder how Tutul, Phor-Tu-Jiru 3, is reacting to all this. Faruki couldn't have written this any better.

The government really thinks something was wrong or they emulating the Paki disease of suspecting match fixing whenever the team loses.

Basically, its a traditional political speech.. what did he think? this was a BFF match? All the ticket sales are reported to ICC and all of them were individually marked. There is absolutely not scope of fraudulent practice with the World Cup match tickets..

The guy who didnt even know ( along with our on-rabble PM) the year is 2011 and not 2001, thinks he can investigate our cricketing failures? Egg-jagtly!

I have serious doubts about ashraful's commitment to team BD, is he really interested in the team's progress or his own success? Even during the WI game, ashraful was grinning his head off when he came to bat. I don't know why he was grinning, perhaps he saw something funny or had a hyperactive facial nerve or realised this was the first time perhaps in months he had the chance to top score without going past his average but hoping for faults to be found isn't the best way to put it. Sure feedback would be good, there is no doubt that there were glaring flaws as the 58 and 78 show.

Shakib doesn't want ashraful in the team, there is no doubt about that. Despite shakib's failigns in certain situations (pointing at the crowd which i did not see but seems to be taken as reality by most if not all) shakib gives his all for BD. Ashraful IMO has been distracted with advertisements etc and did not become what he promised before-before I hoped he would be BDs de silva but now he is simply Bangladesh's F rated advertiser and tv star. What a waste

Revenge won't get BD cricket anything positive. I've never liked politicians interfering in cricket, it should be left to the experts. If people want to engage our former players in something they should be involved in not coaching but issues such as administration because i think they will know the weakneses of the system better than most.

They shouldn't get any tickets let alone one. They should que up like everyone else

This so called investigation will never see the light. The moron was expecting to be in the prize giving ceremony??!!What has he done so far as a sports minister other than taking photos or giving pose with the female volunteer of Commonwealth games?

I agree.

However, when the government endorses and gives a 473 Crore spend on cricket for the World Cup and all they get back is a ticket, you can imagine how they feel a little hacked off..

It would also be interesting to see what BD cricket has left as a 'legacy' for that investment.

Ahad Ali Sarkar's comment was basically driven by vengeance and nothing else. he just vented his spleen as he was not treated properly by BCB. Whatever he has stated about the investigation etc etc is another political hoax.

I remember having this same feeling. Here I was, a mere Bangladesh supporter, but feeling very grim with horror at the quick wickets falling. And there was Ashraful, grinning!! What was that all about? Doesn't he even have the maturity yet to recognize a serious situation? Did he not feel some self-respect, responsibility, and pride for representing his country? How can a player be smiling at a match situation like that? Is that lack of match temperament or just commitment to the team and country?

I wouldn't mind him failing if he had shown focus and seriousness. At least show some attempt at grit.

Let's have Sarker's income and asset probed. Surely we will find some skeletons.

Let's have the whole goverment investigated for not having solved power shortage, food shortage, rampant crime and corruption.

Leave the cricket alone!!!

A report came out after the SA game that two of our 'core' players went to a wedding party the night before our final match. And we also saw how those 'two' players performed against South Africa. One of them clearly looked 'sleepy' and tired while the other one had a terrible day on the field giving away several runs.

No player would dare to go to a party when they have a WC game which starts within 12 hours except our captain and vice captain. No surprise that Jammie Siddons was furious after the South Africa match, no wonder he instructed the players to become more disciplined!

Now the question is how a team's captain and vice captain go to a party late at night when they have a game starting at 9-30 am?? Both of them were flop at that match. Don't tell me that the captain was our highest scorer in that match.

Even this isn't true..you gota admit that few players are not disciplined at all..after the success of NZ there are other reports about other stuff which is true....and even after WC debacle, they are not getting accountable for their deeds..atleast hope they will realize their mistakes, admits it and fix it in upcoming matches

Proof, please.
Proof that C and VC went out.
Proof that they stayed out too late.
Proof that Siddons was furious with them for staying up late.

Trust me or not it's up to you, but I got this news from a source very close to the team. And my 'source' should not lie. Moreover visit here http://www.eprothomalo.com/index.php?opt=view&page=22&date=2011-03-22

It's difficult to trust a newspaper but it's not difficult to trust someone whom you know for a long time. It was our two 'core' players who did that.

Few players are simply reluctant about daily life discipline. Willingly or unwillingly they tend to overlook it. That's the truth.

I love my team and I love our players but discipline is discipline- you have to stick with that.
