Zimbabwe switch focus to fast bowlers

Zimbabwe are re-adjusting the focus of their bowling attack from spin to seam in preparation for their return to Test cricket against Bangladesh in August. Spinners have increasingly become Zimbabwe's mainstay in limited-overs cricket, but national coach Alan Butcher believes that in order to be successful in Tests good fast bowlers are a necessity.

"We are working with about 14 fast and medium-fast bowlers hoping that they will be fine-tuned to get them ready for the Test matches," Butcher told The Independent in Zimbabwe. "In the limited-over games we would get away with playing three or four spinners and one fast bowler but for the Tests we will need more of the fast bowlers.

"We have a number of young bowlers that we have brought in and we will have to fast-track some of them so that they are ready for our first Test against Bangladesh. It is a big challenge and Test matches are more challenging but we are confident we can get them ready well in time."

Before the series against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will face Australia A in two four-day matches and a one-day tri-series also involving South Africa. Butcher pointed to the first-class games, in particular, as being vital to Zimbabwe's preparations for home Tests against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan.

"If we win those matches then it means we will be well ready for the Bangladesh Challenge. They [Australia] selected a very strong squad, never mind the 'A' tag, and if we can win against such a team I am sure we will be able to beat Bangladesh. We will also play a triangular 50-over series that will include South Africa and it will be important that we compete because these are two very strong teams that we will be facing."

Chris Mpofu, Shingi Masakadza and Ed Rainsford are Zimbabwe's senior fast bowlers, but they were away on national duty for much of last season and in their absence a younger crop of largely untested seamers has come to the fore, some of whom could well feature in Zimbabwe's Test plans.

Tendai Chatara, a 20-year-old seamer with both pace and movement at his disposal, topped the Logan Cup wicket tables with 55 scalps at 17.69. Chatara has already played for Zimbabwe - in a Twenty20 against India last year - but it is his commendable first-class record that will grab the selectors' attention.

Also in the running for a Test debut is Matabeleland Tuskers allrounder Keegan Meth, who does not have Chatara's pace but whose control and ability to move the ball brought him 54 wickets at the eye-catching average of 13.31 in nine first-class games last season, culminating in the extraordinary match figures of 13 for 109 in the Logan Cup final, won by Tuskers.

Ian Nicolson, probably one of the fastest bowlers in the country, appeared out of his depth against South Africa in October but had a strong domestic first-class season. Tuskers' Njabulo Ncube has developed into a skiddy, attacking fast bowler and, though he did not play any first-class cricket last season, Kyle Jarvis could yet force his way back into national reckoning. Jarvis, 22, bowled with impressive pace before picking up a stress fracture in his back before Zimbabwe's trip to the Caribbean early last year. After a lengthy rehabilitation, Jarvis secured a club contract with Burwell in the East Anglian Premier League and was then picked up by Essex to play in their Second XI, starting impressively against MCC's Young Cricketers.

Nat'l camp from June 4

The national cricketers will start their fitness training from June 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The Akram Khan-led new national selection committee will pick a 30-member preliminary squad for the camp in their first assignment. The camp will be conducted under the guidance of trainer Grant Luden for the Tigers next assignment against Zimbabwe in July-August.

“We will consider the performers for the camp, especially the national league performance will come under consideration. But we will focus on those players who have a chance to play for the national and A team,” said Akram.

Shakib Al Hasan's men will play one Test and five one-day internationals during their month-long tour in Zimbabwe.

Hope the likes of Shuvagoto, Nasir, Anamul, Shabbir, Noor are selected in the preliminary squad. Training with the national team players, facilities and the new coaching staff will do them a lot of good.

According to Akram, they (selectors) are not going to pick Academy players like Anamul. Not sure about others though.
I thought Nasir is with the Academy!

According to Kaler Kantha Akram Khan said that he is worried about #4.That means isnt Riyad interested to play at #4?If so then its a big problem for us.Why Riyad dont want to play at upper middleorder?Is he weak against semi new ball and pace?If Riyad not interested then we can think of:
1.Mushy
2.Kapali
3.Naeem
4.Rock
5.Ash !!

No point taking batsmen like Junayed, Rock, Ash who are waste of space. Nafees recent performance has earned him a chance back to test. Mahmudullah is probably our only original test batsman so he is good. Mushfiq, Shakib, Naeem are more than capable of resistance if needed. Looks like a strong all round attack. We need 3 pacers! Shahadat, Rubel, Shafi will do great together! We can add another spinner maybe Sajib, Enamul. I would even take Razzaq because he is Zimbabwues worst night mare even at day time

I actually like that XI and add Enamul in there and that's my test XI. I disagree with you about Zunaed though. In ODIs, yes he's inconsistent but in tests last year the guy hit a 100 against England at home and then hit 2 50s against England in Lord's. SN is the better man at the #3 but at the opener's spot his record is better then Imrul. I wouldn't mind if he's there instead of Imrul at opener. And would rather have Shuvo in there then Sajib.

Imrul will get better. we knew him as a defensive player. Suddenly he turns more aggressive than Tamim! Shows he has the capability in him to play at different style. Junayed had a bad A tour. So it doesnt make sense to include him at all... Give him time, see if Imrul works good, play some early NCL matches, if Junayed improves than we can give him a shot against West Indies or Pakistan.

Well about Razzaq, i guess now is the best time to experiment his test position. I agree, let other player try

rinath you can't be serious about Zunaed. After Tamim he was our second best batsman in Tests last season. And he has done enough to get a recall to the ODI squad as well.

Ok, so here's a question to the Bangladeshis here from an interested but not particularly well informed observer, how do you rate your chances in this series? Without wanting to sound complacent or dismissive to the Zimbabwe side you guys should clean sweep this, or at least not lose a game, shouldn't you? Or have I been inhaling too many fumes from passing cars?

A bad A team tour? The guy was the highest scorer out of both the teams. He averaged a 53 with a SR of an 82. Yes he could have turned that 96 in to a match winning 1 but then compare him with our other batsmen. Shamsur, Nazim, and Jahurul were lucky to last 10-15 deliveries. And like Equinox said, he was 1 of our best batsmen in tests last year. I believe he should be back in both ODI and test teams.

maybe take shuvagoto, dhiman has put his hand up to get a chance as the keeper batsman. as far as spinners go i prefer looking for someone from the younger generation rather than razzak especially in tests, i guess shuvo or sajib are in line atm, but shaker ahmed has been impressive and it's not unlike selectors to go for someone off just a couple of impressive performances (though i expect shaker to be a long run option in 2-5 years). if they are to bring in a new allrounder then nasir is the choice, the others need more time to develop i.e. sabbir (has an impressive start but hasn't kept it up) and mahmudul (hasn't shown any of his potential really) etc. too early for anamul, i'm sure he will contend for a spot in years to come but let him develop first, we still have rahim and dhiman, let's not forget mithun ali has an impressive start, not to say mithun ali won't be any good but he had a great start and is struggling now.

On second thought, I'd prolly take Shaker over Razzak in my fifteen. Dunno why someone has mentioned Robiul Islam, as Tapash Baisya has a better chance of being selected. In fact, with Naeem and Riyad both certain to play in the starting XI, we may not need another SLA to go along with Shakib. Naeem and Riyad are both decent spinners, and that should be enough to take 20 wickets against Zim at a good cost of runs.

You basically picked the stock team bar anamul and a few changes to the player roles.

I don't think its wise to go for wholesale changes in what has so far been the most successful test team we've had. Wholesale changes occur in times of crisis ala India after WC 2007.

I think that most of our "Siddons core" will actually be amongst the best longer version batsman in the country now. Only reason I'm adding Anam is because Zimbabwe aren't the strongest of opposition and its good to give guys the best ease into the top level.

2.If we dont take Farhad and want a spin heavy attack in that case how about playing Naeem/Nasir in place of one SLA ?

1. I agree with you about Shakib. I would rather have Mahmudullah up at #5 then Mushy though since he can play pace better then him and also will not have as many bowling responsibilities as Shakib and wicket keeping duties like Mushy. I would then put Shakib at #6 and Mushy at #7.
2. I wouldn't mind honestly if Shuvo gets the nod over Enamul since it is Zimbabwe. We could see what Shuvo has to offer for the test team. We have a 4 day game I believe right before the 1st test. So we could see how they do.

ODIs
1. I actually forgot about Nazmul. He could easily replace Zunaed. On the Zimbabwean pitches, from what I remember have very hard, flat wickets. So having an extra pacer wouldn't be a bad idea. It would be a good test for our fast bowlers.
2. I believe that Naeem and Shuvo can easily swap each other. I put Nasir in there mainly to get him a game or 2. I don't think he should be our 1st choice offbreak. If the series is wrapped up then I would like to see him in action to see what he has to offer. Or if Alok Kapali fails miserably, then we could try Nasir out for more games.

Having said that, will there be a 'Biggest bhuri measuring competition' between the selectors and players?

Come on players don't let the selectors win hands down. Compete sincerely. I hope the prize of this competition should be MORE goru'r Mangsho, Dal and gorom Bhat. May I add khati gawoa Ghee. I recon Lotus is running out of some ghee. He needs some good malish. Vegetables hishabey kacha boro morich hoiley aro bhalo hoi (balanced diet boiley kotha). We will be on the back foot on the first day I expect, but will be ahead in the remaining 4 days. Then we win.

কোচ অ্যালান বুচার খুবই খুশি। ছয় বছর পর টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে ফেরার আগে জিম্বাবুয়ের প্রস্তুতিতে অন্তত কোনো খুঁত থাকছে না। হারারেতে বাংলাদেশের বিপক্ষে জিম্বাবুয়ের ‘প্রত্যাবর্তন টেস্ট’টা শুরু হওয়ার কথা ৬ আগস্ট। তার আগে ছয়জন টেস্ট খেলোয়াড়সমৃদ্ধ অস্ট্রেলিয়া ‘এ’ দলের সঙ্গে দুটি চারদিনের ম্যাচ খেলার সুযোগ—এর চেয়ে ভালো প্রস্তুতি আর কী হতে পারে!

আর বাংলাদেশ? জিম্বাবুয়ে ছয় বছর পর টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে ফিরছে, বাংলাদেশের জন্যও তো এটা ফেরাই। ১৪ মাস পর টেস্ট! টেস্ট ক্রিকেট থেকে এত লম্বা ছুটি আগে আর নেয়নি বাংলাদেশ।

বাংলাদেশ-জিম্বাবুয়ে সিরিজ বললে সম্ভাবনার পাল্লা বাংলাদেশের দিকেই হেলে থাকে এখন। কিন্তু টেস্ট থেকে বাংলাদেশের দীর্ঘ বিরতির কারণেই সেটি এবার খুব জোর গলায় বলা যাচ্ছে না। জিম্বাবুয়ের বিরতি পড়েছে আরও বেশি, সর্বশেষ টেস্ট ২০০৫ সালের সেপ্টেম্বরে। তবে দীর্ঘ নির্বাসন শেষে প্রত্যাবর্তনটা স্মরণীয় করে রাখতে চেষ্টার কমতি নেই আফ্রিকার দেশটির। অস্ট্রেলিয়া ‘এ’ দলের সঙ্গে প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ তো আছেই, টেস্টের জন্য রীতিমতো গবেষণাগার খুলে খোঁজা হচ্ছে ক্ষুরধার পেসার।

বাংলাদেশ সর্বশেষ টেস্ট খেলেছে গত বছরের জুনে। ওল্ড ট্রাফোর্ডে ইংল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে তিনদিনের সেই টেস্ট শেষ হয়েছে ৬ জুন। এরপর বিশ্বকাপকে ধ্যানজ্ঞান করে ওয়ানডে নিয়েই বেশি ব্যস্ততা। অন্য সব দলই বিশ্বকাপের আগে টেস্ট খেললেও বাংলাদেশ টেস্ট খেলল না ওয়ানডে খেলা ভুলে যাওয়ার ভয়ে! মজার ব্যাপার, বাংলাদেশে নির্ধারিত টেস্ট না খেলে ওয়ানডের সংখ্যা বাড়িয়েছিল যে নিউজিল্যান্ড, বাংলাদেশ সফরের পর ভারতে গিয়ে তারা ঠিকই টেস্ট খেলেছে।

টেস্ট ক্রিকেট থেকে দীর্ঘ ‘নির্বাসনের’ অভিজ্ঞতা আগেও একবার হয়েছে। ২০০৬-এর এপ্রিলে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে হোম সিরিজের পর ১৩ মাস বাংলাদেশ কোনো টেস্ট খেলেনি। প্রত্যাবর্তন ২০০৭ সালের মেতে। ওই দীর্ঘ বিরতি কতটা ক্ষতি করেছিল, সেটা শুনুন তখনকার অধিনায়ক ও বর্তমানে নির্বাচক হাবিবুল বাশারের কাছ থেকেই, ‘আমরা যতটুকু এগিয়ে ছিলাম, তা থেকে অন্তত দুই বছর পিছিয়ে যাই ওই বিরতিতে। ১৩ মাস পর টেস্টে ফিরে আমাদের আবার প্রথম থেকে সবকিছু শুরু করতে হয়েছিল।’

শঙ্কাটা এ কারণেই, জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে একমাত্র টেস্ট ম্যাচটি এবারও একই অভিজ্ঞতা উপহার দেবে না তো! টেস্ট তো নয়ই, মাঝের সময়টায় বাংলাদেশ দলের ক্রিকেটাররা দীর্ঘ পরিসরের ক্রিকেটই খেলেননি সেভাবে। জাতীয় লিগে দু-একটা ম্যাচ খেলার সুযোগ পাওয়া গেছে বিশ্বকাপের পর, সেই ম্যাচগুলোও আবার খেলেননি সবাই। টেস্ট ক্রিকেটটা খেলোয়াড়দের কাছে এখন তাই অচেনা মনে হতেই পারে। বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা কমিটির প্রধান এনায়েত হোসেনও সমস্যাটা স্বীকার করে নিলেন, ‘এটা ঠিক, এই গ্যাপটা আমাদের ক্ষতি করেছে। তবে কিছু করারও ছিল না। অস্ট্রেলিয়ার সিরিজের পর ছেলেরা সবাই বিশ্রামে চলে গেল। কোচিং স্টাফদের মেয়াদ শেষ হয়ে গেল। বাড়তি খেলার কথা চিন্তা করতে পারিনি।’ কিন্তু প্রশ্নটা তো অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে সিরিজের পরের সময়টা নিয়ে নয়। এর আগে এত দীর্ঘ বিরতি কেন পড়ল, প্রশ্ন হলো এটা। যে প্রশ্নের কোনো যুক্তিগ্রাহ্য উত্তর নেই।

যা হয়ে গেছে, তা নিয়ে আক্ষেপ করে তো আর লাভ নেই। কিন্তু টেস্টে ফেরার আগে বাড়তি প্রস্তুতির কথা কি ভাবা উচিত ছিল না বিসিবির? এনায়েত হোসেনের দাবি, জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার পথে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় থেমে তাদের ‘এ’ দলের সঙ্গে একটি চারদিনের ম্যাচ খেলার সম্ভাব্যতা যাচাই করে দেখা হচ্ছে। সেটা না হলে ১৪ মাস পর টেস্ট খেলার আগে বাংলাদেশের প্রস্তুতির সুযোগ বলতে শুধু ১ আগস্ট হারারেতে শুরু তিনদিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচটাই। বাংলাদেশ দলের জিম্বাবুয়ের উদ্দেশে রওনা দেওয়ার কথা আগামী ২৭ জুলাই।

এক টেস্ট এবং পাঁচ ওয়ানডের সিরিজের প্রস্তুতি ক্যাম্পেও ম্যাচ অনুশীলনের ওপর জোর দেওয়া হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা প্রধান, ‘আমাদের ইচ্ছা আছে, ছেলেদের নিজেদের মধ্যে কিছু ম্যাচ খেলানোর। প্রয়োজনে জাতীয় লিগের চ্যাম্পিয়ন দল রাজশাহীর বিপক্ষে একটা চারদিনের ম্যাচ হতে পারে। নতুন কোচ এলে তাঁর সঙ্গে আলাপ করে এসব ঠিক করা হবে।’

এমনিতে টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে বাংলাদেশের পারফরম্যান্স বানরের তৈলাক্ত বাঁশ বেয়ে ওঠার গল্প মনে করিয়ে দেয়। এক ফুট ওপরে উঠলে এমন দীর্ঘ বিরতি আবার নামিয়ে আনে দুই ফুট। যে কারণে হারারে টেস্টে জিম্বাবুয়ে নয়, বাংলাদেশের আসল প্রতিপক্ষ টেস্ট ক্রিকেটের সঙ্গে ১৪ মাসের বিচ্ছেদ।

yes, the practice matches are very important at this point of time.

1) Naeem should be given a try as the no. 4 in the test team. his performance in the national league in the middle order, plus his experience in the test team makes us owe it to him. instead of trying someone completely new, he should be tried out. I just hope the new coach doesnt treat him as a bowler, rather a batsman who can bowl a bit. in test matches, he is very ineffective as a bowler.

2) Junaid has done enough to earn a recall in the test team. he has always been a solid batsman in the test team. while shahriar nafees is playing well, junaid deserved that no. 3 position more.

3) we should look for definite other options than Razzak in test matches. Enamul ke keno team e neowa hoitese na? i do not think throwing a new recruit to zimbabwe is the best of ideas, but anyone who is doing well in first class is better than Razzak in the longer format.

Agree that Zunaed should be in the test team and should be the #3, but I believe Nafees should be at the #4 ahead of Naeem. His test record for a BD batsman is already good and it's less risky then trying out Naeem. Also Nafees is overall a better batsman who has had more reps playing in the top order. On top of that, Nafees has also batted in the middle order in tests before. So it would be interesting to see how it would work out.

There is an argument for number 4 position. IMO Rajin Saleh can be selected at number 4 for test. Mahmudullah, Naeem & Sakib is enough as spin bowlers yet we can select one more pace bowler in zimbabwe condition.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to send the national team to South Africa to play a four-day practice match as part of their preparation for the Zimbabwe tour in July-August.

BCB's technical committee in its meeting yesterday recommended the stopover in South Africa for a four-day practice match as they believed that it would help the Tigers get reacquainted with the longer form.

During the month-long tour, Shakib Al Hasan's men will play one Test and five one-day internationals against Zimbabwe, who will end their self-imposed Test exile with the match against the Tigers.

“The Bangladesh team is likely to go to South Africa on July 19 to play a four-day match against South Africa's High Performance unit players. The committee recommended the match as we believe it will be helpful for our players who will return to Test cricket after a long gap,” said BCB's director and chairman of the technical committee Enayet Hossain Siraj after the meeting.

Siraj also informed that they are planning to arrange one four-day and three limited-over practice matches at home.

“The practice matches will be held between the national team and the Bangladesh A team. We will announce the 15-member final squad for the Zimbabwe tour by the first week of the next month,” said Siraj.

The national players are now doing their fitness training under the guidance of trainer Grant Luden, and they will go to Cox's Bazar on June 26 where the conditioning camp will finish on June 30.

When asked who they have in mind to conduct the skill training after the conditioning camp, Siraj said that they have decided to give Imran Sarwar the responsibility until the head coach is appointed.

“Imran will do the job and we will also involve the other local coaches. We are hopeful that we will appoint the head coach and other supporting staffs in time,” hoped Siraj.

BCB is now waiting for confirmation from Australian Stuart Law, who is all set to become the Tigers new head coach if everything goes smoothly.

In my opinion, it's a very good idea to play the SA A team. Not only will it prepare the boys, but it will also give them a great experience. I would take that over a Zimbabwe A team or a Zimbabwean domestic team. Also the national team playing the A team is a good idea. I wish they had played another 4 day match but still not bad. So no excuses for not having played enough tests.

But you have to think this series isn't place of experiment. This series is our prestigious issue. Normally with other strong teams we play for draw or sometimes prestigious lose. But here we have to win. Without win there is no other way against Zimbabwe.

So we shouldn't do experement in this series. We should take only those guys who are already tested.

Zimbabwe's new cricket captain Brendan Taylor admits he was surprised to get the job but says his form won't be affected.

"Yes I was surprised, but happy at the same time," Taylor said on Sunday. "I know it's different when you are captain, but I don't see it affecting my performance."

Taylor was named captain on Friday ahead of Zimbabwe's Test comeback against Bangladesh in August.

The 25-year-old opening batsman replaces all-rounder Elton Chigumbura, who resigned in April before briefly overturning his decision.

Taylor says Zimbabwe can perform at the highest level.

"We are all confident we can make it when we return to Tests, I think we've come a long way," Taylor says.

জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার দিনক্ষণ এখনো ঠিক হয়নি।

মাহমুদুল্লাহ বলেন, "অনেক দিন ধরে আমরা টেস্ট খেলি না। তবে ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে লাল বলে খেলেছি আমরা। আসা করছি, কোনো সমস্যা হবে না। এছাড়া জিম্বাবুয়ে প্রায় ছয় বছর ধরে টেস্ট খেলে না, তাই আমারাই এগিয়ে থাকবো।"

ছয় বছর আগে টেস্ট থেকে স্বেচ্ছা নির্বসনে যায় জিম্বাবুয়ে। বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে খেলার মধ্য দিয়ে টেস্ট অঙ্গনে ফিরবে দেশটি।

জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরকে সামনে রেখে রোববার শের-ই-বাংলা জাতীয় ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামে অনুশীলন শুরু করে বাংলাদেশ। দ্বিতীয় দিনের অনুশীলন শেষে রিয়াদ সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, "একদিনের ক্রিকেটে মানিয়ে নিতে আমাদের বেশি সময় লাগবে না। কিন্তু টেস্টে মানিয়ে নিতে একটু সময় লাগবে। টেস্ট খেলতে অনেক ধৈর্য্য লাগে।"

প্রথম দিন যোগ না দিলেও দ্বিতীয় দিন ক্যাম্পে যোগ দেন মোহাম্মদ আশরাফুল, আব্দুর রাজ্জাক, শফিউল ইসলাম, শুভগত হোম চৌধুরী ও ইলিয়াস সানি। অধিনায়ক সাকিব আল হাসান ও সহ-অধিনায়ক তামিম ইকবাল ইংল্যান্ডে কাউন্টি ক্রিকেট খেলছেন।

তিনি বলেন, "টেস্ট বলেই রক্ষণাত্মক খেলতে হবে এমন কোন কথা নেই। আমাদের স্বাভাবিক খেলাই খেলতে হবে। বাজে বল মারতে হবে। আমরা আমাদের সীমাবদ্ধতা জানি, তাই বলে মারার বল মারতে পারবো না, তাতো হয় না।"

"জিম্বাবুয়ের সঙ্গে মাঠে নামার আগে দু'টি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলবো। একটি দেশে আর অন্যটি দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায়। তাই মনে হয় না, মানিয়ে নিতে আমাদের কোনো সমস্যা হবে। আর জিম্বাবুয়ে নয়, আমরা আমাদের নিয়েই ভাবছি," বলেন তিনি

ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে পাঁচ নম্বরে ব্যাট করেন রিয়াদ। নিজের প্রিয় জায়গাও তাই। টেস্টে আট নম্বরে ব্যাট করেছেন। এবার উপরে খেলার কোনো সম্ভাবনা আছে কি না? জানতে চাইলে রিয়াদ বলেন, "দলের প্রয়োজনে যে কোন জাগায় ব্যাট করতে আপাত্তি নেই।"

টেস্টের তুলনায় একদিনের ম্যাচ বেশি খেলছে বাংলাদেশ। তবে এর পেছনে গত বিশ্বকাপকে প্রধান কারণ হিসেবে দেখছেন রিয়াদ। তিনি বলেন, "বিশ্বকাপের জন্য গত বছর আমাদের একদিনের ম্যাচ বেশি খেলতে হয়েছে। নিউজিল্যান্ডের সঙ্গে টেস্ট খেলার কথা ছিল। কিন্তু তারা রাজি না হওয়ায় খেলা হয়নি।"

আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট কাউন্সিলের (আইসিসি) নতুন নিয়ম অনুযায়ী, ১৬ থেকে ৪১ ওভারের মধ্যে ব্যাটিং ও বোলিং 'পাওয়ার প্লে' নিতে হবে। সাধারণ অবস্থায় বাংলাদেশ ৪৪/৪৫ ওভারের পর ব্যাটিং পাওয়ার প্লে নেয়। এতে কোনো সমস্যা হবে কি না? এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে রিয়াদ বলেন, "আপাতত আমরা টেস্ট নিয়েই বেশি ভাবছি। পরে একদিনের সিরিজ নিয়ে ভাবা যাবে।"[/বাংলা]

If we lose this match, we are both (BD/Zim) doomed 100% in the test arena. If we win, Zim is 75% doomed to make a come back in the test. But if the match goes to fifth day and we win, Zim will have a point to come back in test.

If we eat them live in 3 days (T_E); Zim will find it hard to come back in test cricket. But BD will completely justify playing test cricket with the big boys.

AND, Rubel isn't worthless at all. Rubel, Shafi and Shahadat in test cricket can be instrumental along with our SLAs to take 20 wickets & win test matches for us.

[বাংলা]যে দেশের দ্রতগতির বোলারদের কোচিং করাতে এসেছেন জিঅফ লসন সে দেশের জাতীয় দলের শীর্ষস্থানীয় একজন বোলার তাকে চেনেন না। নূন্যতম ধারণাও নেই। চিনবেন কি করে, তিনি তো অনেক আগে অস্ট্রেলিয়া জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটার ছিলেন! তবে পাকিস্তান জাতীয় দলের সাবেক কোচ সম্পর্কে নূন্যতম ধারণা রাখেন না বাংলাদেশ দলের একজন ক্রিকেটার, শুনতে খারাপ লাগে।

সত্যিই লসনকে চেনেন না জাতীয় দলের পেসার শফিউল ইসলাম,“উনার সম্পর্কে আমার ধারণা নেই।” চেনার উপায় কোথায়, লসনের বিপক্ষে তো শফিউল খেলেননি।

“দুঃখিত লসন, মনে কষ্ট নেবেন না। শফিউলের না চেনায় আপনার খ্যাতি কমবে না। বাংলাদেশ দলে হয়তো আরো অনেকেই আপনাকে চিনবে না। তবে আপনি নিশ্চিত থাকেন ভবিষ্যৎ জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটাররা আপনাকে মনে রাখবে। যাদেরকে আপনি পেস বোলিং সম্পর্কে জ্ঞানী করছেন। আপনি শফিউলের জন্য দোয়া করবেন সহজ সরল এই ক্রিকেটার যাতে উত্তর উত্তর উন্নতি করতে পারেন। কারণ তিনি যে এখন জাতীয় দলের প্রধান বোলার।”

সিপসিপে শরীর নিয়েও দারুণ বোলিং করেন। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে শফিউলকে অনেক দায়িত্ব নিতে হবে। রুবেল হোসেনকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে বোলিং ওপেন করবেন তিনি। মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজা এবং সাহাদাত হোসেনের অনুপস্থিতিতে টেস্টে অনেক ঝক্কি পোহাতে হতে পারে দ্রুতগতির ওই বোলারকে। যদি শফিউলের দাবি,“চাপ হবে না। পেছনের দিনগুলোতে আমরা ভালো করেছি। ভালো ভাবে অনুশীলন করতে পারলে আমরা ভালো করতে পারবো। মাশরাফি ভাইয়ের সঙ্গে আমি বোলিং করতে পারিনি। রাজিব ভাইয়ের সঙ্গে খেলেছি। রুবেল ভাইয়ের সঙ্গেও খেলেছি। বিশ্বকাপে বেশিরভাগ ম্যাচে আমি আর রুবেল ভাই বোলিং করেছি। কোন সমস্যা হবে না।”

প্রায় একবছর দ্ইু মাস পরে টেস্ট ক্রিকেট খেলতে যাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ। বিশ্বকাপ এবং দ্বিপাক্ষিক একদিনের ক্রিকেট সিরিজের জন্য জাতীয় লিগে প্রথম শ্রেণীর ম্যাচও খেলার সুযোগ হয়নি। প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেটের ফাইনাল ম্যাচটি অবশ্য খেলেছেন শফিউল। জিম্বাবুয়েতে খেলতে যাওয়ার আগেও খুব বেশি চারদিনের ম্যাচ নেই। একাডেমি দলের বিপক্ষে একটি ম্যাচ পাচ্ছে জাতীয় দল। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় একটি তিনদিনের ম্যাচ খেলার কথা শোনা গেলেও শেষপর্যন্ত তা নাও হতে পারে। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা না গেলে বাংলাদেশ দল জিম্বাবুয়ের উদ্দেশে রওয়ানা হবে ২৭ জুলাই।

প্রস্তুতির জন্য খুব বেশি সময় ক্রিকেটারদের হাতে নেই। অথচ শফিউলের এখনো বোলিং শুরু হয়নি। পায়ের চোট মুক্ত হতে বিশ্রামে ছিলেন প্রায় তিন সপ্তাহ। তারপরেও তিনি দাবি করেন ছন্দে ফিরতে বেশি সময় লাগবে না। “কক্সবাজারে যাওয়ার তিন চারদিন আগে আমি কন্ডিশনিং ক্যাম্পে যোগ দিয়েছিলাম। জ্বরে পড়ায় এখনো বোলিং করিনি। ছন্দে ফিরতে দুই-একদিন সময় লাগবে। একটু পরিশ্রম করলে ছন্দ পেতে সময় লাগে না। পরিশ্রম করবো।”

রুবেল হোসেন এবং নজমুল হোসেন প্রথম দিনই নেটে বল করেছেন। লাল বল হাতে নেওয়া হয়নি শফিউলের। যদিও সাদা এবং লাল বলের মধ্যে কোন পার্থক্য করছেন জাতীয় দলের এই দ্রুতগতির বোলার। “দু’টোতেই বোলিং করতে মজা। যখন যেটাতে আত্মবিশ্বাস পাওয়া যায়। যেদিন যেটায় ভালো হয় সেটা করতেই ভালো লাগে।”

একদিনের ক্রিকেটের চেয়ে টেস্টে ভালো খেলার বেশি সুযোগ থাকে বলে মনে করেন শফিউল। বলছিলেন,“টেস্টে অনেক সুযোগ। এক স্পেলে খারাপ করলে পরের স্পেলে ফিরে আসা যায়।”

জাতীয় দলের প্রধান কোচ হিসেবে স্টুয়ার্ট ল’কে নিয়েগ দেওয়া হয়েছে। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরেই তাকে পাওয়া যাবে। বোলিং এবং ফিল্ডিং কোচ নির্বাচিত হয়নি। এমনকি ল’র অনুপস্থিতিতে আপতকালীন কোচের দায়িত্বে আছেন সারওয়ার ইমরান। বর্তমান কোচের কাছ থেকেই বোলিংয়ে টিপস পাওয়া যাবে বলে মনে করেন শফিউল,“ইমরান স্যার এখন আছেন। ইমরান স্যারের সঙ্গে আমি একাডেমিতেও কাজ করেছি। একাডেমিতে অনেক উপকার পেয়েছি। আমার মনে হয় উনার কাছ থেকে সাহায্য পাবো।”[/বাংলা]

[বাংলা]বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি)’র টেকনিক্যাল ও মূল্যায়ন কমিটি অদ্ভুত এক সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে জাতীয় দলের ফিল্ডিং কোচ হিসেবে সাইফুল ইসলামের নাম প্রস্তাবের সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে মঙ্গলবারের সভায়। অথচ জাতীয় দলের ফিল্ডিং কোচের দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন বিসিবির তরুণ কোচ সোহেল ইসলাম।

সোহেলের প্রতি এমন বিমাতা সুলভ আচরণ সম্পর্কে মুঠোফোনে বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান এনায়েত হোসেনের কাছে জানতে চাওয়া হলে তিনি বলেন,“ফিল্ডিং কোচ হয়তো চলে আসবেন। যদি না আসে তা হলে সাইফুলকে পাঠানোর সুপারিশ করা হয়েছে। সোহেল কাজ করছে সাইফুলও কাজ করে। এটা কোন বিষয় নয়।”

সম্পূরক প্রশ্নে জানতে চাওয়া হয় জাতীয় দলের সঙ্গে সম্পৃক্ত না হলেও সাইফুলকে জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে পাঠানোর সুপারিশ টেকনিক্যাল ও মূল্যায়ন কমিটির দায়িত্বশীল কর্মকর্তারা ইচ্ছেকৃতভাবে নিয়েছে কি না। তার উত্তরে এনায়েত হোসেন বলেন,“এটা চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নয়। পরিচালনা পর্ষদের সভায় আনুষ্ঠানিক সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হবে।”

জাতীয় দলের কোচিং স্টাফদের মধ্যে প্রধান কোচ হিসেবে স্টুয়ার্ট ল, সহকারী কোচ হবেন সারওয়ার ইমরান, ফিল্ডিং কোচ সাইফুল ইসলাম, ফিজিও না এল বিকল্প হিসেবে যাবেন বিসিবি চিকিৎসক দেবাশিস চৌধুরী। ল শ্রীলঙ্কার সঙ্গে সব সম্পর্ক চুকিয়ে আগামী ১৭ বা ১৮ জুন ঢাকায় এসে পৌঁছাবেন বলে টেকনিক্যাল ও মূল্যায়ন কমিটির সভা শেষে ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগের ভারপ্রাপ্ত ম্যানেজার সাব্বির খান জানান।

টেকনিক্যাল ও মূল্যায়ন কমিটির মঙ্গলবারের সভায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সিদ্ধান্তের মধ্যে ঢাকা প্রিমিয়ার ক্রিকেট লিগে পুলের বিষয়ে আলোচনা হয়। সাব্বির খান জানান,“সর্বশেষ প্রিমিয়ার লিগ থেকে নতুন মৌসুমের দলবদলের ৪৫ দিন পূর্ব পর্যন্ত যারা জাতীয় দলের হয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক ম্যাচ খেলেছেন তারা পুল ভুক্ত হবেন।”

তবে সিসিডিএম এর সুপারিশ মেনে টেকনিক্যাল কমিটিও পরিচালনা পর্ষদের কাছে সুপারিশ করেছে আগামী মৌসুম থেকে তিনজন করে বিদেশি ক্রিকেটার খেলানোর। পেস বোলারদের পুলমুক্ত রাখা হবে কি না এনিয়ে আলোচনা হলেও কোন সিদ্ধান্ত আসেনি সভা থেকে।

এদিকে অতিরিক্ত খরচ এবং বৈরি আবহাওয়ার অযুহাতে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় জাতীয় দলের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ বাতিল করার সুপারিশ করা হয়েছে। সেক্ষেত্রে জিম্বাবুয়েতে প্রস্তাব পাঠানো হয়েছে তিনদিনের ম্যাচটি চারদিন করা এবং জিম্বাবুয়ে এ দলের সঙ্গে একটি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ আয়োজনের সুযোগ করে দেওয়ার জন্য। ফতুল্লাহ খান সাহেব উসমান আলী স্টেডিয়াম খেলার অনুপযোগি হওয়ায় একাডেমি দলের সঙ্গে চারদিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচটি মিরপুর শেরেবাংলা স্টেডিয়ামে করার জন্য সুপারিশ করা হয়েছে। সভায় সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয় অনূর্ধ্ব-১৯ ক্রিকেট দলের পাকিস্তান সফর আপাতত স্থগিত করার বিষয়ে।

বর্ষপঞ্জিতে সামান্য পরিবর্তন আনা হয়েছে। প্রথম বিভাগ লিগের প্রস্তুতিমূলক টি-টোয়েন্টি প্রতিযোগিতার পরিবর্তে একটি একদিনের ক্রিকেট টুর্নামেন্ট আয়োজনের সুপারিশ করা হয়। এছাড়া আট দলের জাতীয় লিগ এবং আন্তঃজেলা ক্রিকেটকে জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ করার বিষয়েও একমত হয়েছে টেকনিক্যাল ও মূল্যায়ন কমিটি।[/বাংলা]

বাংলাদেশ দলকে নিয়ে জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরেই যাচ্ছেন স্টুয়ার্ট ল। আগামী ১৭ বা ১৮ জুলাই আসবেন তিনি। জিম্বাবুয়েতে তাঁর সহকারী হিসেবে সারোয়ার ইমরানের নাম প্রস্তাব করেছে টেকনিক্যাল কমিটি। চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে বোর্ড।

বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা ব্যবস্থাপক সাব্বির খান জানিয়েছেন, জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার আগেই এসে যেতে পারেন নতুন ফিল্ডিং কোচ ও ফিজিও। সম্ভাব্য দুজনের নামই গোপন রাখছে বিসিবি। তবে শেষ পর্যন্ত না এলে বিকল্পও প্রস্তুত। বিসিবির চিকিৎসক দেবাশিস চৌধুরী যাবেন ফিজিও হিসেবে। ফিল্ডিং কোচ থাকবেন সাবেক পেসার ও ডেভেলপমেন্টের কোচ সাইফুল ইসলাম।

জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার আগে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলার কথা থাকলেও সেটা আর হচ্ছে না। আর্থিক সীমাবদ্ধতার বাইরে টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট চূড়ান্ত না হওয়া ও দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় বৃষ্টিকেও বলা হচ্ছে কারণ। জিম্বাবুয়েতে একটি তিনদিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলার কথা থাকলেও এখন বিসিবির পক্ষ থেকে অনুরোধ করা হয়েছে জিম্বাবুয়ে ‘এ’ দলের বিপক্ষে দুটি চারদিনের ম্যাচ খেলার। [/বাংলা]

Whatever excuse they give, not going to South Africa is a good decision.
Our boys have never done well in South African and there is absolutely no need to have the season starter in a tricky land.
Facing Zimbabwe, last thing they need is a dip in their confidence.

The technical committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recommended for arranging an additional longer version practice match in Zimbabwe rather than sending the team to South Africa.

In it's earlier meeting the technical committee had suggested to send the national team to South Africa to play a four-day practice match as part of their preparation for the Zimbabwe tour in July-August but in yesterday's meeting, the members of the committee recommended for the cancellation of the stopover.

“Considering the budget, weather conditions in South Africa and the unavailability of the team management, the committee recommended for cancellation of the tour. It's also suggested to make the lone three-day practice match in Zimbabwe to a four-day game and also try to arrange another four-day match at our own cost,” informed Sabbir Khan, the manager of cricket operations committee, after the meeting.

He also said that the committee also gave their suggestion about the team management for the upcoming Zimbabwe trip.

Head coach Stuart Law is likely to join the team on July 17 or July 18 while Sarwar Imran will accompany the team as an assistant coach-cum-specialist bowling coach.

“Tanjib Ahsan Saad has already been made team operations manager for the tour. The committee hoped that the board will get specialist fielding coach and physio before the tour but if it does not happen, then (former national pace bowler) Saiful Islam will accompany the team as the fielding coach and Dr Debashish Chowdhury as physiotherapist.

“It's confirmed that the team is not going to get the specialist bowling coach for this tour,” informed Sabbir.

The technical committee has recommended that one club should be allowed to field three foreign players in next season's Dhaka Premier League but it could not decided on how many players a club will be able to register.

“It's suggested that the foreign player should have first-class experience,” said Sabbir adding that the committee also fixed the timeline for the pool players.

The committee also gave go-ahead to the proposed domestic calendar with some slight adjustments.

[বাংলা]জাতীয় দলের বোলারদের জন্য এ মুহূর্তে আলাদা বোলিং কোচ প্রয়োজন নেই বলে মনে করছেন শফিউল ইসলাম।

মঙ্গলবার বৃষ্টির কারণে বাংলাদেশ দলের অনুশীলন নির্ধারিত সময়ের একটু আগে শেষ হয়। সে সময় রাজধানীর শের-ই-বাংলা জাতীয় ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামে পেসার শফিউল বলেন, "এ মুহূর্তে আলাদা বোলিং কোচের প্রয়োজন নেই। ইমরান স্যার (সারোয়ার ইমরান) আছেন। একাডেমিতেও তার কাছে আমি প্রশিক্ষণ নিয়েছি। আমার মনে হয় উনিই যথেষ্ট।"

চোটের কারণে পেসার মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজা ও শাহাদাত হোসেন রাজিব জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের প্রাথমিক দলে না থাকায় পেস আক্রমণে নেতৃত্ব দিতে পারেন শফিউল। এই মুহূর্তে অবশ্য তিনিও সুস্থ নন। বলেন, "জ্বর ছিল বলে এতোদিন বল করিনি। আশা করছি, বুধবার থেকে বল করতে পারবো।"

শফিউল বলেন, "ছন্দ ফিরে পেতে সময় লাগবে বলে। তবে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করলে হয়তো সময়টা কমিয়ে আনা সম্ভব।"

মাশরাফি, রাজিব না থাকায় পেস আক্রমণ একটু অনভিজ্ঞ হয়ে পড়বে বলে স্বীকার করেন শফিউল। তিনি বলেন, "অভিজ্ঞ দুই পেসার না থাকায় আমাদের উপর চাপ বেশি থাকবে। ওই চাপ কাটাতে আমাদের বাড়তি পরিশ্রম করতে হবে।"

নতুন বলে সঙ্গী হিসেবে শফিউলের পছন্দ রুবেল হোসেনকে। বলেন, "রুবেলের সঙ্গে অনেক ম্যাচ খেলেছি। বিশ্বকাপেও খেলেছি। তার সঙ্গে আমার মেলে ভালো।"

লাল বা সাদা বলকে আলাদাভাবে দেখছেন না শফিউল। বলেছেন, "দুই রকম বলকে আলাদা করে দেখার কিছু নেই। প্রস্তুতিটাই আসল কথা। লাল বলের সময় এক রকম খেলা আর সাদা বলের সময় অন্য রকম খেলা। আসলে অবস্থা অনুযায়ী ব্যবস্থা।"

১৪ মাস পরে টেস্ট খেলতে যাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ। তবে কোনো সমস্যা হবে বলে তিনি মনে করেন না। বলেন, "যখন যে ধরনের খেলা সে রকম প্রস্তুতি নিতে হয়। আমরা সেটাই নিচ্ছি।"

একদিনের ম্যাচ থেকে টেস্টকে এগিয়ে রাখছেন শফিউল। তিনি বলেন, "টেস্টে ফিরে আসার সুযোগ থাকে। কয়েকটি 'স্পেলে' বল করা যায়। এক 'স্পেলে' ভালো না করলেও অন্য 'স্পেলে' ফিরে আসার একটা সুযোগ থাকেই।"[/বাংলা]

The pace bowling is a department which has become a spot of bother for the Bangladesh think-tank ahead of the coming Zimbabwe trip. The Tigers will definitely miss the experience in the pace bowling when they play their first Test in 14 months in Zimbabwe. It had been confirmed long ago that pace spearhead Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was going to miss the tour but things got worse when another experienced campaigner, Shahadat Hossain, was ruled out from the trip due to an injury he sustained during the recently concluded conditioning camp.

The selection committee led by Akram Khan has already expressed their anxiety over the shortage of pace bowlers in the pipeline, fearing that it would be difficult for them to bear another injury.

With only five Tests to his credit, right-arm paceman Shafiul Islam will have to lead the Bangladesh pace attack in the coming series along with Rubel Hossain. The 21-year old paceman from Bogra was however as confident as he could be while talking to reporters after the training session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“I don't feel any pressure. We performed well in the last few series. I didn't get the opportunity to play with Mashrafe but I have a very good understanding with Rubel,” said a confident Shafiul.

Shafiul was hardly bothered with the fact that the Tigers are going to play the longer version of cricket after a long break; instead he was excited to bowl with the red ball.

“I think there is a lot of scope in Test cricket. You always have a chance to come back after a bad spell. It doesn't matter whether you bowl with the white or red ball, because the important thing is whether you can bowl well,” explained Shafiul.

The young bowler informed that he started running yesterday and he was hopeful of getting back into rhythm within two-three days.

“Yes, I was out of action for the last few days as I suffered from fever. But I am confident that it will take two-three days to get back my rhythm once I start bowling tomorrow,” said Shafiul.

The Tigers are now without a head coach as the newly appointed Stuart Law is yet to join the team, while the board is yet to announce the names of the specialist coaches. Shafiul, though, was happy with the guidance of Sarwar Imran, who is conducting the skill camp in absence of the head coach.

There was however an opportunity for the pace bowlers to take some tips from Australian coach Geoff Lawson, who came here to conduct a short course at the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy but Shafiul said that he has 'no idea' about Lawson.

[বাংলা]আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে দেশের হয়ে খেলাই ইলিয়াস সানির স্বপ্ন।

জিম্বাবুয়ের সফরের জন্য ঘোষিত ২৩ সদস্যের দলে রয়েছেন বাঁ-হাতি এই স্পিনার। অনুশীলনে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে দলে জায়গা করে নিতে চান তিনি।

প্রাথমিক দলে এবারই প্রথম নন সানি, এর আগে টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপের জন্য ঘোষিত প্রাথমিক দলে ছিলেন তিনি। সেবার খেলা হয়নি, এবার খেলার ব্যাপারে আশাবাদী তিনি।

জাতীয় দলে জায়গা করে নেয়ার জন্য প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচগুলোতে ভালো করতে চান তিনি। বলেন, "অনুশীলনে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করছি। প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচগুলোতে ভালো করতে হবে, এর কোনো বিকল্প নেই।"

সানি বলেন, "বাংলাদেশ দলে ডাক পাওয়া এখন অনেক বড় ব্যাপার। খুব ভালো লাগছে। উপভোগ করছি। এটা একটা স্বপ্নের মতো। সব ক্রিকেটারেরই স্বপ্ন থাকে দেশের হয়ে খেলা। আমারও স্বপ্ন তাই।"

প্রায় ১৪ মাস পর টেস্ট খেলতে যাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ। তবে ভালো করার ব্যাপারে আশাবাদী তিনি। বলেন, "আমরা চারদিনের ম্যাচ দিয়ে ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেট শেষ করেছি। খেলোয়াড়রা খেলার মধ্যেই ছিলেন। লাল বলই হোক আর সাদা বলই হোক, মানিয়ে নেয়া কঠিন হবে না। ভালো ফল পেতে চাইলে ভালো খেলতে হবে। সে জন্য আমরা কঠোর পরিশ্রম করছি।"

এক মাসের ক্যাম্পে থেকে 'ফিটনেস' আগের চেয়ে বেড়েছে বলে মনে করেন তিনি। বলেন, "ওই ক্যাম্প আমাদের বেশ কাজে দিয়েছে।"

সানি ৫৫টি প্রথম শ্রেণীর ম্যাচ খেলেছেন। এতে ৩ শতকসহ ২৪.৭৫ গড়ে ১৯০৬ রান করেছেন, সর্বোচ্চ ১৭৬। তবে বল হাতে আরো উজ্জ্বল তিনি। ২৫.২০ গড়ে নেন ২০০ উইকেট। সেরা ৭/৭৯।

জাতীয় দলের উদ্বোধনী ব্যাটসম্যান ইমরুল কায়েস জিপি-বিসিবি একাডেমি মাঠে বুধবার ঘাম ঝরানো অনুশীলন শেষে বলেন, "আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে নিয়মিতই রান পাচ্ছি।" তাই বলে নিজেকে জাতীয় দলের প্রতিষ্ঠিত খেলোয়াড় ভাবছেন না। প্রতিটি ম্যাচকে দেখেন নতুন একটা সুযোগ হিসেবে।

এ প্রসঙ্গে তিনি বলেন, "আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে সব সময় চাপ থাকে। নিজে প্রতিষ্ঠিত খেলোয়াড় কী না, তা নিয়ে ভাবি না। প্রতিটি ম্যাচই নতুন। রান করার চাপ সব সময়ই থাকে।"

উদ্বোধনী সঙ্গী তামিম ইকবাল নটিংহ্যামশায়ারের হয়ে ভালো খেলছেন। সুযোগ পেলে আপনি কি পারবেন? এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে ইমরুল বলেন, "পারবো না কেন? আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটের চেয়ে আর কোথাও রান করা এতো কঠিন নয়। ধারাবাহিকভাবে রান পাচ্ছি। একদিন সুযোগ পেলেও পেতে পারি।"

বিদেশে খেলার সুযোগ পেলে অনেক বড় খেলোয়াড়ের সঙ্গে খেলা যেতো। অনেক কিছু দেখা যেতো বলে মনে করেন ইমরুল।

বুধবার জিপি-বিসিবি একাডেমি মাঠে বাংলাদেশ দল অনুশীলন করে। এ সময় তিন নির্বাচক আকরাম খান, মিনহাজুল আবেদীন নান্নু ও হাবিবুল বাশার সুমন উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

একাডেমির পিচ নিয়ে ইমরুল বলেন, "পিচ একটু ভিন্ন, ঠিক টেস্ট পিচ নয়। এতে বাউন্স একটু কম, টেস্ট পিচে বাউন্স আরেকটু বেশি থাকে। ঘাসের পিচেও ব্যাটিং করছি। তবে বাউন্স ঠিক থাকে না, কখনো বল উঠছে কখনো নিচু হয়ে যাচ্ছে।"

প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচের ঘাটতির কথা বলা হচ্ছে। প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচের জন্য কোনো মাঠই প্রস্তুত নয়। একাডেমির মাঠেই হয়তো প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলতে হবে। এ মাঠে খেলা যাবে কি না সে প্রশ্নের জবাবে ইমরুল বলেন, "আমার ধারণা নেই। তবে আমাদের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলা দরকার। এ মাঠে হবে কী না জানি না, তবে আমাদের খেলতে হবে।"

দলে জায়গা পাকা করার জন্য সব খেলোয়াড় মাঠে ভালো খেলার জন্য মুখিয়ে আছেন বলে বলে উল্লেখ করে তিনি বলেন, এজন্য সবাই কঠোর অনুশীলন করছেন।[/বাংলা]

"বৃষ্টিই আমাদের পিছিয়ে দিচ্ছে। আমাদের সামর্থ্যরে সবটুকু ব্যবহারের চেষ্টা করছি। কিন্তু বৃষ্টির কারণে পারা যাচ্ছে না," জিপি বিসিবি একাডেমি মাঠে বুধবার বৃষ্টির কারণে বাংলাদেশের অনুশীলন বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ার পর দলের প্রস্তুতি সম্পর্কে সাংবাদিকদের একথা বলেন বাংলাদেশের অর্š—বর্তীকালীন কোচ সারোয়ার ইমরান।

জিম্বাবুয়ে দেশের মাটিতে অস্ট্রেলিয়া 'এ' দলের বিপক্ষে দু'টি চার দিনের ম্যাচ খেলবে। এ ছাড়া দেশে তারা বেশ কয়েকটি চারদিনের ম্যাচ খেলেছে। সে কারণে প্রস্তুতির ক্ষেত্রে কিছুটা হলেও এগিয়ে আছে। আর আমাদের সামনে বাধা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে বৃষ্টি।

অনুশীলনের জন্য দু'জন কোচ যথেষ্ট কি না? এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি বলেন, "ফিল্ডিংয়ের জন্য আমি একজনকে চেয়েছিলাম, তাকে পেয়েছি। সোহেল ইসলাম ফিল্ডিংয়ের ব্যাপারটি দেখভাল করছেন।"

প্রতিপক্ষ জিম্বাবুয়ের আগে নিজের দল নিয়ে বেশি ভাবতে চান ইমরান। তিনি বলেন, "আমি নিজের দল নিয়েই বেশি ভাবছি। প্রতিপক্ষের দুর্বলতা নিয়ে কাজ করতে হলে অনেক বেশি দক্ষ খেলোয়াড়ের প্রয়োজন হয়। তাই আগে নিজেদের শক্তি ও দুর্বল দিক দেখে নিচ্ছি। তারপর প্রতিপক্ষের শক্তি ও দুর্বল দিক খতিয়ে দেখা যাবে।"

"তবে আমাদের শক্তি ও ওদের দুর্বল দিক মাথায় রেখে ম্যাচের কৌশল নির্ধারণ করা হবে," বলেন তিনি, "এ ব্যাপারে কাজ চলছে, আমরা হোম ওয়ার্ক শুরু করছি।"

অন্যদিকে নির্বাচকদের একজন সাবেক অধিনায়ক হাবিবুল বাশার সুমন বলেন, "জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের আগে বাংলাদেশ অন্তত দু'টি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলবে। যে সময় আছে তাতে দু'টির বেশি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলা সম্ভব নয়। এর মধ্যে একটি খেলা হবে জিম্বাবুয়েতে।"

[বাংলা]স্টুয়ার্ট ল দলের সঙ্গেই জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে যাবেন তা নিশ্চিত হয়ে আছে। তবে প্রথম সফরটা পূর্ণাঙ্গ কোচিং স্টাফ নিয়ে যেতে পারবেন কি না বলা যাচ্ছে না। আশা করা হচ্ছে পারবেন। অর্থাৎ বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি)’র প্রধান নির্বাহী মঞ্জুর আহমেদ চেষ্টাতদ্বির করছেন ফিল্ডিং এবং ফিজিওর নিয়োগ সম্পন্ন করতে।

বাংলাদেশে কাজ করে যাওয়া দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকান ফিজিও ড্যারেন ভিনসেন্টকে পাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা খুব বেশি। আলোচনার অগ্রগতি হয়েছে। তিনি রাজি না হলে বিকল্প জনকেও গুছিয়ে রেখেছে বিসিবি। ফিল্ডিং কোচের বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত হয়নি। আগামী সপ্তাহের মধ্যে ফিজিও এবং ফিল্ডিং কোচ চূড়ান্ত হবে বলে বুধবার বাংলানিউজকে জানান মঞ্জুর আহমেদ। বলেন,“আশা করি আগামী সপ্তাহের মধ্যে ফিল্ডিং কোচ এবং ফিজিও নিশ্চিত হবে। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরেই যেতে পারেন তারা।”

[বাংলা]টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে ফেরাটা স্মরণীয় করে রাখার ইচ্ছে থেকে অবিরাম পরিশ্রম করে যাচ্ছে জিম্বাবুয়ে ক্রিকেট দল। প্রতিবেশী দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার কাছ থেকে সহযোগিতাও পাচ্ছে। প্রোটিয়াস ‘এ‘ দলের সঙ্গে প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচ খেলে খেলে বড় দৈর্ঘ্যের ক্রিকেটে অনেকটা অভ্যস্ত হয়ে উঠেছে জিম্বাবুয়ে। সেখানে বাংলাদেশের অনুশীলনে গাঁছাড়া ভাব। যদিও আপতকালীন কোচ সারওয়ার ইমরান এবং সোহেল ইসলাম সাধ্যের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশ দলটাকে গোছানোর চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছেন। কিন্তু টেস্ট খেলার জন্য পর্যাপ্ত অনুশীলন পাচ্ছে কোথায়।

বাংলাদেশ দলও তো টেস্ট খেলার মধ্যে নেই ১৩ মাস ধরে। এক বছর দুই মাস পূর্ণ হলে একটি মাত্র টেস্ট খেলার সুযোগ পাবে। এক অর্থে বাংলাদেশেরও টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে প্রত্যাবর্তন। ক্রিকেটারদের ভাষায় প্রমাণের টেস্ট খেলবে বাংলাদেশ। অথচ যে উইকেটে অনুশীলন হচ্ছে তাতে তৃপ্ত হওয়ার মতো নয়। উদ্বোধনী ব্যাটসম্যান ইমরুল কায়েস যেমন বলছিলেন,“টেস্ট ক্রিকেটের মতো উইকেট না। ঘাস থাকলেও বাউন্স কম। কিছু বল লাফিয়ে আসে। কিছু বল নিচু হয়ে আসে। তবে প্র্যাকটিসের জন্য এটা খারাপ না।”

নেটের প্র্যাকটিস হচ্ছে তিনদিন ধরে। হয়তো আরো কয়েকদিন হবে। বৈরি আবহাওয়ার কারণে ফতুল্লাহ খান সাহেব ওসমান আলী স্টেডিয়ামে অনুশীলন ম্যাচও খেলা যাচ্ছে না। দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় গিয়ে যে প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচ খেলার কথা ছিলো তাও বাতিল হয়ে গেছে। জিম্বাবুয়ে দয়া করে একটু সুযোগ দিলে হয়। একাডেমির বিপক্ষে চারদিনের যে প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচ খেলার কথা সেটা না হলেও তো মাথায় বাড়ি। ইমরুলও মনে করেন যেকোন মূল্যে প্র্যাকটিস খেলা জরুরি। বলছিলেন,“আমি আগেই বলেছি আমাদের একটি প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচ খেলা দরকার। লম্বা সময় ধরে আমরা টেস্ট ক্রিকেটের বাইরে আছি। আমার মনে হয় একটা টেস্ট প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচ খেলা প্রয়োজন।”

অধিনায়ক সাকিব আল হাসান এবং সহ-অধিনায়ক তামিম ইকবার ইংলিশ কাউন্টি ক্রিকেট খেলছেন। সাকিব তবু চারদিনের ম্যাচ পেয়েছেন। কিন্তু তামিম তো শুধু টি-টোয়েন্টির মধ্যে। দলের অপরিহার্য দুই ক্রিকেটার তো অনুশীলন ম্যাচ পাচ্ছেনই না। জিম্বাবুয়েতে টেস্ট খেলা কতটা ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ হয়ে যাচ্ছে বলে বোঝানো যাবে না।[/বাংলা]

Batsmen jumping around at the crease is a rare sight in Mirpur these days. But a slightly lively wicket at the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy was enough to spice things up as the Tigers geared up there for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.

With very little to do in terms of preparation apart from hitting the nets, the Tigers had to be content with creating tough conditions.

"I asked for some grass on one wicket and to leave the other one as a normal track," said coach Sarwar Imran, the man in charge of the preparatory camp. "There was good carry and some bouncers were flying around. It was a good wicket and there was even bounce but with none of the movement that you usually get on a grassy wicket."

Several of the batsmen were hit as the likes of Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain and Robiul Islam enjoyed the bounce and peppered the batsmen.

Opener Imrul Kayes, after a long hit in the middle, laid a concrete block that covered a few bowling lengths so that he could replicate a fast wicket. Some others were seen giving special attention to the short ball.

The coach too was heard several times giving batsmen scenarios to bat in ten-minute sessions. "We don't have much time or space to get in all the scenarios but I gave them a few like batting ten minutes before and after the lunch interval, the first ten overs of the new ball, etc," explained Imran, who is set to accompany the Tigers to Zimbabwe as the assistant-cum-bowling coach.

While the Tigers cramped in as much skill training as possible, most of the Zimbabwe players are getting some much-needed action against South Africa A and Australia A in a tri-series at home.

Wickets during the southern hemisphere winter are slightly softer and according to those who have played in Harare and Bulayawo, there is need for a three-man seam attack. But apart from Shafiul and Rubel, only Nazmul looks a likely option.

The selectors are expected to name a 15-man squad by next week. Meanwhile, Jahurul Islam missed training yesterday due to an eye infection.

জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার আগে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলার কথা থাকলেও সেটা আর হচ্ছে না। আর্থিক সীমাবদ্ধতার বাইরে টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট চূড়ান্ত না হওয়া ও দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় বৃষ্টিকেও বলা হচ্ছে কারণ। জিম্বাবুয়েতে একটি তিনদিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলার কথা থাকলেও এখন বিসিবির পক্ষ থেকে অনুরোধ করা হয়েছে জিম্বাবুয়ে ‘এ’ দলের বিপক্ষে দুটি চারদিনের ম্যাচ খেলার।
টেকনিক্যাল কমিটির সভায় কাল ঢাকা প্রিমিয়ার লিগের পুলের তালিকা নিয়েও সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে। গতবারের দলবদলের পর থেকে এবারের দলবদলের ৪৫ দিন আগ পর্যন্ত জাতীয় দলে খেলা ক্রিকেটাররা পুলে থাকবেন। কেউ স্কোয়াডে থেকেও খেলার সুযোগ না পেয়ে থাকলে তিনি থাকবেন পুলের বাইরে। এক দলে পুলের কতজন খেলতে পারবেন, এই সিদ্ধান্ত অবশ্য হয়নি। তবে সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে, প্রিমিয়ার লিগে এক ম্যাচে তিনজন পর্যন্ত বিদেশি খেলোয়াড় খেলতে পারবেন, তবে তাদের প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেটার হতে হবে। প্রস্তাবগুলোর ব্যাপারে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে বোর্ড।

[বাংলা]সূর্যের আলোয় চোখ মেলে তাকিয়ে থাকতে কষ্ট হয় জহুরুল ইসলামের (অমি)। চোখের পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা শেষে বিশেষজ্ঞ চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন ভাইরাল কেরাটাইটিসে আক্রান্ত। দুশ্চিন্তার কারণ বটে। চোখের মতো স্পর্শকতার বিষয় নিয়ে তো হেলা করা যায় না। বাধ্য হয়েই অনুশীলনের বাইরে থাকতে হচ্ছে। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের আগে যে অনুশীলনে ফেরা হচ্ছে না তার, তা অনেকটাই নিশ্চিত। শনিবার চক্ষু বিশেষজ্ঞরা চূড়ান্ত পরীক্ষা করে হয়তো বিশ্রামে থাকার পরামর্শই দেবেন জহুরুলকে।

যদিও দু’জন চক্ষু বিশেষজ্ঞ মাহাবুবুর রহমান ও তৌহিদ আহসান (কর্ণিয়া বিশেষজ্ঞ) অপেক্ষায় রেখেছেন জহুরুলকে। দ্বিতীয় দফায় পর্যবেক্ষণের পরই তারা জানাতে পারবেন চোখের প্রদাহ থেকে সেরে উঠতে কত সময় লাগবে। প্রদাহ জহুরুলের ক্রিকেট খেলায় হয়তো বড় বাধা নয়। সমস্যা হচ্ছে খেলার সময় চোখে লেন্স ব্যবহার করতে হয় তাকে। প্রদাহ থাকা অবস্থায় কিছুতেই লেন্স ব্যবহার করা যাবে না।

চোখের সমস্যা না হলে জহুরুলের জাতীয় দলে ফেরার যথেষ্ট সম্ভাবনা ছিলো। প্রধান নির্বাচক আকরাম খানও তেমন ইঙ্গিত দিয়েছেন। বৃহস্পতিবার বাংলানিউজকে বলেন,“যদিও এখনো চূড়ান্ত দল নির্বাচন হয়নি। তবে অমি থাকলে ভালো হতো। ওর তো চোখে ভাইরাল কেরাটাইটিস আক্রমণ করেছে। চিকিৎসকরা বলেছেন ওটা সারতে নাকি সময় লাগে।”

মনের ভেতরে শঙ্কা থাকলেও জাতীয় দলে ফেরার যে প্রবল ইচ্ছে, সেটাকে দমিয়ে রাখতে পারছেন না ডানহাতি ব্যাটসম্যান। জিম করছেন নিয়ম করে। বৃহস্পতিবার বিকেলেও মিরপুর শেরেবাংলা জাতীয় স্টেডিয়ামের জিমে ছিলেন জহুরুল। মুঠোফোনে বলছিলেন,“আগের চেয়ে এখন একটু ভালো অবস্থা। শনিবারে জানতে পারবো খেলতে পারবো কি না। আমি আশা ছাড়ছি না। জিম করছি।”

অবশ্য বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি)‘র চিকিৎসকদের দুই বিশেষজ্ঞ চিকিৎসক জানিয়েছেন জহুরুলের চোখের প্রদাহ সারতে লম্বা সময় লাগবে।

কক্সবাজারে কন্ডিশনিং ক্যাম্পে থাকার সময় ধরাপড়ে ভাইরাল কেরাটাইটিস আক্রমন করেছে জহুরুলের চোখে। বিসিবি চিকিৎসক দেবাশিস চৌধুরী জানান, সেখানে চোখের চিকিৎসক দিয়ে চোখের পরীক্ষা করে নিশ্চিত হয় প্রদাহ হয়েছে। ঢাকায় ফিরে বিশেষজ্ঞ চিকিৎসকের সরণাপন্ন হন তিনি।

Nat’l team’s practice match today

The 23-member national squad splitting into two teams will play a two-day match starting from today at the GP-BCB Academy ground as the team management decided to give them some practice in match condition ahead of their month long tour to Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh will play a one-off Test and five one-day internationals during their month long tour of Zimbabwe in August. They have not played a practice match till date, though they will play Test cricket after a gap of more than a year.

Interim coach of the national team Sarwar Imran told New Age on Friday that two new balls will be used from both ends of the academy ground and there will be

no straight six because the distance is too short.

‘We have to play matches to provide some match practice to the players which is not possible by doing only net sessions,’ said Imran.

‘Though there will be some restrictions still it will be worthy as they will have to play in match condition,’ said Imran.

Imran was also hopeful that the pace bowlers will also get the chance to boost their confidence by picking up wickets as they will have a new ball from each end.

The imbecility of our board is driving me up the wall. They talk about not getting so-and-so from here or there. Well that's because they waited till the last minute to make arrangements. This thing was in the calendar for how long? Why could they not reach out to South Africa, Namibia or Zim board earlier and nail down some practice schedule.

I am very worried.
I fear our bowlers will struggle to take wickets with two top pacers out. And our fielders will drop catches as they will not be used to staying on field all day. I fear that our batters will be out cheaply in the first innings, especially after a break and then in the 2nd innings we'll go into a shell!

In short, I fear the worst!

ইমরুল কায়েসের মন খারাপ হতে পারে। বোলারের মাথার ওপর দিয়ে ছক্কা হাঁকানোই যার নেশা তাকে কি-না আজ ওই শট খেলা থেকেই বিরত থাকতে হচ্ছে। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের অনুশীলন করতে গিয়ে আজ থেকে দু'দিনের একটি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলতে নামছে জাতীয় দল। সেখানে নিয়ম করা হয়েছে, সোজাসুজি ছক্কা থাকবে না। মিরপুর ইনডোরের মাঠ ছোট হওয়ার কারণেই এ নিয়ম করা হয়েছে। এখানে সোজাসুজি তুলে মারলেই পাশের বাড়ির জানালাই গিয়ে বল লাগার আশঙ্কা রয়েছে। 'উইকেট বরাবর একাডেমীর মাঠটা ছোট। সে কারণেই নিয়ম করা হয়েছে, সোজাসুজি ছক্কা থাকবে না ম্যাচে। তবে আড়াআড়ি ছক্কা মারতে পারবে ব্যাটসম্যানরা। জাতীয় দলের অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন কোচ সরোয়ার ইমরান মাঠ সংকটের বাস্তবতা মেনে নিয়েই প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচের নতুন নিয়ম করেছেন। যেখানে ৪৫ ওভার পর নতুন বল নেওয়া হবে। এক দিনে মোট দুটি নতুন বল দিয়ে ম্যাচ খেলানো হবে। দু'দলে একাধিক পেসার খেলাবেন তিনি। জিম্বাবুয়ের কন্ডিশন মাথায় রেখে একাডেমীর যে উইকেটে ঘাস রয়েছে সেখানেই ম্যাচ খেলানো হবে। মিরপুরের মাঠে নতুন ঘাস লাগানোয় সেখানে এ ম্যাচটি হচ্ছে না। তবে ১৬ জুলাই থেকে শুরু হওয়া চার দিনের ম্যাচটি মিরপুরের মূল মাঠেই অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।

আজকের এ ম্যাচে জাতীয় স্কোয়াডে থাকা ২০ ক্রিকেটার ছাড়াও একাডেমী থেকে কয়েকজন পেসারকে ডেকে নেওয়া হবে। দু'দলে মোট ৯ পেসার খেলানো হবে। যেখানে জাতীয় স্কোয়াডে থাকা রুবেল হোসেন, শফিউল ইসলাম, নাজমুল হোসেন আর রবিউল ইসলাম শিবলু ছাড়াও দেখা যাবে একাডেমীর চার পেসারকে। জিওফ লসনের উপস্থিতিতে এ ম্যাচে খেলবেন একাডেমীর পেসার মুক্তার আলী, কামরুল ইসলাম রাবি্ব, আলাউদ্দিন বাবু আর আল আমিন।[/বাংলা]

The NewAge report got it wrong. There will be a new ball change after the 45th over. First 45 overs using Ball 1 and Second 45 overs using Ball 2.

There is a 4-day game against BD-A/Academy starting on 16th July at Mirpur.

The preliminary squad of the Bangladesh National Team will play two practice matches with the BCB Academy team at the BCB Academy ground. The first match will take place on Saturday. The match will start at 9 am. The second encounter will be held at the same venue on Sunday. This time, a total of five pacers will play for the National Team. The selectors' panel will take three pacers among them for the Zimbabwe tour.
Meanwhile, the selectors for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team are thinking of taking another pacer along with Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour as Shafiul Islam has just recovered from fever. They do not want to take any chances with only two pacers.
A member of the selection committee said, “It was almost confirmed that Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain would make room in the Zimbabwe bound squad. We are falling in trouble as we have to take another pacer now.”
“However, it is not a problem. We will select one more pacer on the basis of performance and experience,” he also said.
It is known that the selectors are thinking of selecting either Russel or Nazmul. They did not think much about Robiul as he has not enough experience than the other two. Robiul played just one Test match against England last year. But he did not show his mettle in the game. On the other hand, Russel has more experience than Nazmul as he played six more Test matches and 52 ODI matches. And from this point of view the possibility of inclusion of left-arm pacer Syed Russel is more than Nazmul.
Meanwhile, Russel played in the minor county cricket and took ten wickets from four matches. From 2005, Russel did not get a chance to play for the National Team.
Bangladesh team will play one off Test match which starts on August 4. Then the Tigers will play five ODI matches.

ম্যাচ অনুশীলন বেশি হয়নি। তাই ১৪ মাস পর টেস্ট খেলার আগে প্রস্তুতি ভালো করে নিতে আউট হওয়ার পর ইনডোরে একাডেমী দলের পেসার আলাউদ্দিন বাবুকে নিয়ে আলাদা করে অনুশীলন করেন। পরে বোলিং মেশিনেও অনেকক্ষণ ব্যাট করেন ইমরুল।

এরই ফাঁকে বলেন, "বাজে আউট ছিল। অবশ্য প্রথম দিকে বেশ চাপে ছিলাম। কিন্তু একটা চার মারার পরই চাপটা কেটে যায়। কিন্তু অফস্টাম্পের বাইরের বল ছাড়তে গিয়েও পারলাম না।"

জিম্বাবুয়ে যাওয়ার আগে বেশি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলার প্রয়োজন অনুভব করছেন ইমরুল। তিনি বলেন, "আমাদের বেশি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলা প্রয়োজন। আজ সব মিলে ৫ ওভার উইকেটে ছিলাম। কাল হয়তো সারাদিন ফিল্ডিং করতে হবে। ব্যাটিং অনুশীলন সেভাবে হয়নি। সে কারণে বেশি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেললে সুবিধা হতো।"

ম্যাচে বেশি ব্যাটিং করতে না পারার ঘাটতি পুষিয়ে দিতে ইনডোরে ঘাম ঝরান তিনি। আশায় বুক বেঁধেছেন, হয়তো জিম্বাবুয়েতে ভালো কিছু হবে।

প্রতিপক্ষ হিসেবে জিম্বাবুয়েকে শক্তিশালী হিসেবে দেখলেও বাংলাদেশকেই এগিয়ে রাখছেন তিনি। জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে অতীত ইতিহাসের কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে ইমরুল বলেন, "আমরা জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে বরাবরই ভালো করি। আশা করছি এবারো ভালো কিছু হবে।"

বুলাওয়ের উইকেট নিয়ে ধারণা থাকলেও হারারের উইকেটের ব্যাপারে একেবারেই অজ্ঞ ইমরুল। তবে ধারণা করছেন, টেস্টে ঘাসের উইকেট বানাতে পারে স্বাগতিকরা। সে কারণে দেশে ঘাসের উইকেটে আরো অনুশীলন করতে চান তিনি।

সূর্য্য মামাকে ধন্যবাদ দিতে পারেন জাতীয় দলের ক্রিকেটাররা। লাল এবং সবুজ একাদশে বিভক্ত হয়ে দুই দিনের যে অনুশীলন ম্যাচ হচ্ছে তার খুব দরকার ছিলো। জুনায়েদ সিদ্দিকী এবং মুশফিকুর রহিমের ব্যাটিং দেখে মনে হয়নি ১৩ মাস পরে টেস্টের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ খেলছে জাতীয় দল। প্রধান নির্বাচক আকরাম খান খেলা দেখে রীতিমতো মুগ্ধ। “কে বলে বাংলাদেশের টেস্ট খেলার প্রস্তুতি নেই। ভালো হচ্ছে।” তিনি আসলে কি উদ্দেশে এই মন্তব্য করেছেন বলামুশকিল। হয়তো খেলোয়াড়দের উজ্জীবিত করতে প্রশংসাবাণী দিয়েছেন।
উইকেটরক্ষক ব্যাটসম্যান মুশফিকুর রহিম ৮২ রানে অবসর নিয়ে বাকিদের ব্যাটিংয়ের সুযোগ দিয়েছেন। চেষ্টা করলে তিনি হয়তো নিজের ইনিংসটাকে শতকে নিয়ে যেতে পারতেন। জুনায়েদ সিদ্দিক শতকের দুইরান দূরে থেকে আউট হয়েছেন। শুভাগত হোম ৬৫ বলে ৪৫ রান করেছেন নয়টি চারের মার দিয়ে। মাহমুদউল্লাহ’র অপরাজিত ৭০ রান এসেছে ৭১ বলে। সাতটি চার ও ছয়টি ছয়ের মার ছিলো মিডলঅর্ডার এই ব্যাটসম্যানের ইনিংসে। আব্দুর রাজ্জাকও ইনিংসের শেষপর্যন্ত খেলে ২৮ রান করেছেন। দিন শেষে স্কোর সবুজ একাদশের স্কোর দাঁড়ায় চার উইকেটে ৩৬১ রান।
প্রধান নির্বাচক খুশি হলে বাকি দুই নির্বাচকের অখুশি হওয়ার কথা নয়। মিনহাজুল আবেদীন নান্নু দুপুুর পর্যন্ত মাঠে ছিলেন। যাওয়ার সময় তিনিও সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করে গেলেন। দিন শেষে ৩৬১ রানের স্কোর জাতীয় দলের নির্বাচকদের আরো বেশি স্বস্তি দিচ্ছে।
যদিও কোচ সারওয়ার ইমরানের বিশ্লেষণ তৃপ্তির ঢেকুর তোলার মতো নয়। তিনি মনে করেন,“ব্যাটিং মোটামুটি হয়েছে। বোলাররা হাপিয়ে যাওয়ায় সেরাটা দিতে পারেনি। ব্যাটসম্যানরা সুযোগ নিয়েছে। ভালো বোলিং হলে ব্যাটসম্যানদের জন্য খেলা অত সহজ হতো না।”
আব্দুর রাজ্জাক যখন অপরাজিত থাকেন এবং সীমানার বাইরে বল পাঠাতে পেরেছেন তখন সারওয়ার ইমরানের কথার যুক্তি আছে। বোলিং অতটা ভালো হয়নি। যতটা ভালো হলে ব্যাটসম্যানদের চাপের মুখে পড়তে হতো।
রোববার প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচের দ্বিতীয় দিনের খেলা হবে একই মাঠে। এক ইনিংস করে খেলা হওয়ায় দ্বিতীয় দিনে ব্যাট করতে নামবে লাল একাদশ।

our Test batting has improved more quickly than our ODI batting.
good consistency from Ryad,Junaid,Mushy ,Tamim in tests ,we hv nothing to worry against Zim.
only if Sakib & Imrul join these 4 we will become a solid test bttng side.

</td></tr> </tbody></table> ঢাকা: জেমি সিডন্স যে জুনায়েদ সিদ্দিককে একটু বেশি পছন্দ করতেন তা অনেকেই জানতেন। এনিয়ে ক্রিকেটারদের মধ্যেও হাসি ঠাট্টায় থেকেছে। কিন্তু জুনায়েদ যখন নিজে থেকে বলেন সিডন্স তাকে অনেক সুযোগ দিয়েছেন তখন বুঝতে হবে কোচের কৃপাধন্য পেয়ে জাতীয় দলে নিয়মিত খেলার সুযোগ পেয়েছেন।

সিডন্স চলে গেছেন এখন তো কোচের আর্শিবাদ পাবেন না। পারফরমেন্স দিয়েই জাতীয় দলে টিকে থাকতে হবে। আসলে জুনায়েদকে জাতীয় দলে ফিরতে হবে। শাহরিয়ার নাফিসের কাছে হারিয়ে ফেলা জাতীয় দলের তিন নম্বর জায়গাটি পুনরুদ্ধারে আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করছেন রাজশাহীর এই ব্যাটসম্যান। বলছিলেন,“ হ্যাঁ, উনাকে (জিমি সিডন্স) অনেক মিস করছি। অনেক সুযোগ দিয়েছেন। আমি হয়তো উনার প্রত্যাশা প্রত্যাশা পূরণ করতে পারিনি। জেমি নয়, চেষ্টা করবো নিজে কিছু করার।”

জাতীয় দলের হয়ে শেষ একদিনের সিরিজে খেলা হয়নি জুনায়েদের। যদিও এখনো তিনি টেস্ট দলের সদস্য। সর্বশেষ ২০১০ সালে ইংল্যান্ড সফরে ছিলেন তিনি। এরপর কোন টেস্ট খেলেনি জাতীয় দল। বাদ গেছেন অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে ওয়ানডে হোম সিরিজে। বাংলাদেশ দল যখন ঢাকায় আন্তর্জাতিক সিরিজ নিয়ে ব্যস্ত, জুনায়েদ তখন ‘এ’ দলের হয়ে দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সফর করছিলেন। ৯৬ রানের একটি ইনিংসও আছে তার। যদিও বলা হয় জুনায়েদের স্বার্থের কাছে ‘এ’ দলকে জয় জলাঞ্জলি দিতে হয়েছে। বড় একটি ইনিংস খেলার পরেও তাই সাজঘরে ফেরার পথে কেউ হাত তালি দেয়নি। এ দলের সফরসঙ্গী একজনের কাছ থেকে জানা গেছে বাহবা না পাওয়ায় সাজঘরে ফিলে কেঁদে ফেলেছিলেন জুনায়েদ। সেই থেকে জাতীয় দলে ফেরার ইচ্ছেটা প্রবল থেকে প্রবলতর হয়েছে। সেকথাই বলছিলেন জুনায়েদ,“আমার জন্য প্রতিটি ম্যাচই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যেহেতু আমি দলের বাইরে আছি। যেখানেই খেলি না কেন প্রতিটি ম্যাচে ভালো খেলার চেষ্টা করি।”

শনিবার দুই দিনের প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচেও ভালো একটি ইনিংস খেলেছেন জুনায়েদ। দুই রানের জন্য শতক বঞ্চিত হয়েছেন। এনিয়ে খানিকটা আক্ষেপ আছে জুনায়েদের,“শেষ তিন চারটা ইনিংসে অনেক সুযোগ এসেছে। ‘এ’ দলেও আমি ৯৬ রানে আউট হয়েছি। তারপরে জাতীয় লিগের ফাইনালেও ৮৬ রান করে আউট হয়েগেছি। অনেক চেষ্টা করছি বড় ইনিংস খেলার। কেন না ২০, ৩০ এ অনেক আউট হয়েছি। ওই জন্যই ফিটনেসের ওপর জোর দিয়ে কঠিন পরিশ্রম করেছি। মানসিক ভাবে আমি চেষ্টা করছি যাতে বড় ইনিংস খেলতে পারি।”

রোদের তীব্রতা বেশি হওয়ায় প্রায়ই মনোসংযোগ রাখতে পারছিলেন না বলে জানান জুনায়েদ,“হ্যাঁ, আমি চেষ্টা করছি আমার শতভাগ দেওয়ার। প্রচন্ড গরমে নিজের সঙ্গে নিজেকে লড়াই করতে হয়েছে। আমি যখন চিন্তা করছিলাম না আমাকে ফিরে আসতে হবে এবং বড় ইনিংস খেলতে হবে। তখন রিদম ফিরে পেয়েছি।”

so i guess tomorrow, the Red XI will get to bat for 90 overs? they should have made this a 3 day game so each team could have 135 overs to bat and all lower order batsman would get enough time in the middle.

Junaed makes a point

The GP-BCB Academy ground doesn't look like the perfect setting or size for even a practice match but for Junaed Siddiqui, any game of cricket that would help regain his place in the national team is welcome.

The left-hander made 98 out of Green XI's 361 for 4, falling agonisingly short of a century when he top-edged a drive off Nasir Hossain to spoon a simple catch to Rokibul Hasan in the covers.

In the searing heat, it was as much a physical test as it was a mental one but Junaed, having batted for almost five hours, it was slightly unsatisfactory to get out in the nineties.

"I feel bad after getting out like that," he said. "It has happened a few times in the last 3-4 innings. I made 96 for the A team and also 80-odd in the National Cricket League final.

"I have prepared myself mentally to play big innings. It was a fight with myself though the setting is different, I need to make a comeback. All the matches are important to me, be it for the A team or even here in this ground," said Junaed.

Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to bat first but saw Imrul Kayes edge one to wicketkeeper Sahagir Hossain for 13. Junaed and Shuvogoto Hom Chowdhury added 76 for the second wicket before the youngster, batting fluently on 45, gave Mohammad Ashraful a wicket off his first ball.

Junaed and Mushfiqur then batted out the second session and the partnership ended when the Rajshahi batsman's 195-ball knock, laden with 17 boundaries, was ended. The duo added 141 for the third wicket and after the skipper retired after making 82 off 143 balls, the scene was set for Mahmudullah Riyad and Alok Kapali to bat out the rest of the afternoon.

Instead, Kapali gave Sahagir an easy catch off paceman Robiul Islam for a duck after an 11-minute stay.

Riyad, on the other hand, took the aerial route a number of times, ending the day with six sixes and seven fours in an unbeaten 70 off 71 balls. He could have had more but the rules of this game cancel out any six down the ground.

Robiul was the most successful bowler on show with two wickets while Nasir and Ashraful picked up one each.

It was the perfect test to see how the seamers would fare but other than Robiul's tight spell, none of the others could leave an impression on a wicket that kept really low at times.

Left-arm spinner Sohrawardi Shuvo bowled 14 wicketless overs, flinging up at least one short ball each over.

Good to see Zunaed, Mushy, and Mahmudullah scoring runs. However disappointed that Imrul couldn't make an impact. Hopefully he performs next time he bats. Also it looks like it'll be hard for Shuvo to beat out Razzak. So now the other team gets to show their worth. Interestingly, Ash and Rock, are both on the same team. Let's see how they do.

my guess for Day 2 is Ash scores big. dunno who else is on this team.

Kapali gone for a duck, can't believe people want him in the side still...he's worse than Aftab even. good to see Rahim do well and Riyad too. Not sure if Hom is ready. Expecting big ones from SN and Naeem as well.

Oh yeah, no Shakib or Tamim as they're still in england.

My rough guess is it's SN, Saghir, Ash, Rock, Naeem, Nasir as the other team's lineup. Hope that all do really well.The more competition, the bigger headache it is for the selectors and the better for our cricket.

জাতীয় ক্রিকেট একাডেমি মাঠে প্রথম প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ দেখে সন্তুষ্ট ইমরান বলেন, "প্রথম দিন ব্যাটিং ভালো হয়েছে। আজ বোলিং ভালো হল।"

জিম্বাবুয়ে বধের পরিকল্পনা করার আগে বাংলাদেশ দলের সবলতা-দুর্বলতা দেখে নিতে চেয়েছিলেন ইমরান। প্রথম প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ থেকে সেই ধারণা অনেকটাই পেয়েছেন বলে জানালেন তিনি।

ইমরান বলেন, "প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ থেকে অনেক ব্যাপার স্পষ্ট হয়েছে। এগুলো নিয়ে কাজ করতে হবে।" তবে ম্যাচ চলাকালীন সময়েই কাজ শুরু করেন তিনি।

প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচের দ্বিতীয় দিন রোববার জাতীয় ক্রিকেট একাডেমি স্টেডিয়ামে আলো ছড়ান এই দুই খেলোয়াড়। লাল দলের নাসির অপরাজিত থাকেন ১০১ রানে। খেলায় এটিই একমাত্র শতক। অন্যদিকে সবুজ দলের পক্ষে সানি ৪ উইকেট নেন ৪০ রানে।

ম্যাচ শেষে নাসির বলেন, "এর আগেও প্রাথমিক দলে ছিলাম। কিন্তু কখনো জাতীয় দলে খেলা হয়নি। এবার একটি সুযোগ চাই। কঠোর পরিশ্রম করছি, আশা করি সুযোগ পেলে কাজে লাগাতে পারবো।"

দলের অন্য ব্যাটসম্যানদের যেখানে রানের জন্য, উইকেটে টিকে থাকার জন্য লড়াই করতে হয়েছে সেখানে বেশ সাবলীল ছিলেন নাসির। নিজের ব্যাটিংয়ে সন্তুষ্ট নাসির বলেন, "আজকের ব্যাটিং নিয়ে সন্তুষ্ট। দলের বিপদের সময় ব্যাট করতে নিয়েছিলাম। যেভাবে খেলতে চেয়েছিলাম সেভাবেই খেলেছি। অনেক পরিশ্রম করছি, আজ তার ফল পেলাম।"

এক মাসের কন্ডিশনিং ক্যাম্পে থেকে ফিটনেসের বেশ উন্নতি হয়েছে বলে মনে করেন। তিনি বলেন, "এক মাসের কন্ডিশনিং ক্যাম্পে থেকে বেশ উপকার হয়েছে। প্রচণ্ড গরমের মধ্যেও ব্যাট করতে কোনো সমস্যা হয়নি।"

লাল দলের নাসিরের উচ্ছ্বসিত প্রশংসা করেন সবুজ দলের সানি। তিনি বলেন, "নাসির আজ দারুণ ব্যাট করেছেন। অন্যদের রানের জন্য লড়াই করতে হলেও বেশ সহজেই রান পেয়েছেন তিনি।"

প্রথম দিন ব্যাটসম্যানরা ভালো করলেও দ্বিতীয় দিনটি বোলারদের। প্রথম দিনের ব্যাটিং পিচ কী দ্বিতীয় দিন বোলিং পিচ হয়ে গেল? তা মনে করেন না সানি। তিনি বলেন, "পিচ ঠিকই ছিল। বোলাররা বাড়তি সুবিধা পায়নি। নাসির তো রান পেয়েছে, শতরান করেছে। পিচে কোনো সমস্যা ছিল না। পেসাররা আমাদের ভালেঅ একটা সূচনা এনে দেন। তা ছাড়া প্রথম দিনের তুলনায় দ্বিতীয় দিন বল একটু ঘুরেছে।"

অনেক দিন পর বল করতে নেমে এখনো নিজেদের ছন্দে পৌঁছতে পারেন নি বলে মনে করছেন সানি। তিনি বলেন, "জাতীয় লিগের পর এই প্রথম বল করলাম। প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে নিজের বোলিংয়ের ৬০ শতাংশ করতে পেরেছি।"[/বাংলা]

[বাংলা]বোলাদের দাপট দিয়ে শেষ হয়েছে প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ। দুই দলেরই এক ইনিংস করে শেষ হওয়া ম্যাচ ড্র হয়েছে।

জাতীয় ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামে শনিবার টস জিতে ব্যাট করতে নেমে সবুজ দল ৪ উইকেটে ৩৬১ রান করে। জবাবে দ্বিতীয় দিন লাল দল ৫৯ ওভারে সবকটি উইকেট হারিয়ে ২২৪ রানে গুটিয়ে যায়।

দ্বিতীয় দিন ব্যাট করতে নেমে শুরুতেই হোঁচট খায় মোহাম্মদ আশরাফুলের দল। ১৩ রানের মধ্যেই সাজঘরে ফিরে আসেন প্রথম তিন ব্যাটসম্যান। উদ্বোধনী দুই ব্যাটসম্যান শাহরিয়ার নাফীস (৪) ও সগির হোসেন (৪) রার্নে খাতা খুললেও শূন্য হাতে বিদায় নেন ৩ নম্বর ব্যাটসম্যান রকিবুল হাসান।

জাতীয় ক্রিকেট একাডেমি মাঠে রোববার দুই দিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ শেষে সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, "তিন চার দিন আগেই আমরা দল ঠিক করে রেখেছি। এক ম্যাচের উপর নির্ভর করে দলে কোনো পরিবর্তন আসছে না।" তবে কবে নাগাদ দল ঘোষণা হতে পারে সে ব্যাপারে কিছু বলেন নি তিনি।

তিনি বলেন, "আমরা শুধু একটু দেখে নিতে চাচ্ছি। খেলোয়াড়দের সমস্যা কোথায় সেগুলো দেখছি আমরা। কারো হয়তো পেস বলে একটু সমস্যা রয়েছে, সেটা এখনো আছে কী না তা দেখে নেয়া হচ্ছে।"

প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ দেখে সন্তুষ্ট আকরাম। তিনি বলেন, "প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে আমরা সন্তুষ্ট। যা চেয়েছিলাম তাই হয়েছে। ব্যাটসম্যানদের 'অ্যাপ্রোচ' ভালো ছিল।"

তিনি বলেন, "দুই মাস আগেও খেলোয়াড়রা অনেক ক্রিকেট খেলেছে। ভাবনা ছিল একদিনের মেজাজ থেকে টেস্টের মেজাজে ফিরতে কতটা সময় নেবে। প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ দেখে ওই শঙ্কা কেটে গেছে, প্রথম দিন ব্যাটসম্যানরা ভালো করেছেন।"

প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ না হওয়ার চেয়ে একাডেমি মাঠে খেলাকে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে করছেন আকরাম। তিনি বলেন, "খেলা না হওয়ার চেয়ে এটা ভালো। এতে খেলোয়াড়রা ম্যাচ খেলার সুযোগ পাচ্ছে। ম্যাচ খেলার অভ্যাস গড়ে উঠছে।"

প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ ছাড়াও পেসারদের প্রসঙ্গেও কথা বলেছেন প্রধান নির্বাচক। তিনি বলেন, "আমাদের কয়েকজন ভালো মানের পেসার প্রয়োজন। বর্তমানে স্পিনারদের বেশি ব্যবহার করা হয়, তারা সাফল্যও পাচ্ছেন। পেসারদের আসার জন্য একটা কিছু করতে হবে। দেশের বাইরে তিনজন পেসার নিয়ে খেলতে হয়। দেশে দুজন পেসার নিয়ে খেলি। অনেক সময় নতুন বলেও স্পিনার চলে আসে।"

নতুন পেসারদের বের করে আনার জন্য একটি ক্যাম্প হতে পারে বলে তিনি মনে করছেন। তিনি বলেন, "পেসারদের জন্য একটা ক্যাম্প হতে পারে। এ ব্যাপারে বোর্ডকে আমরা চিঠি দিয়েছি। কোনো কিছু চূড়ান্ত হয়নি। আয়োজনের দায়িত্ব এখন বোর্ডের।"

তিনি বলেন, "মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজা, শফিউল ইসলামরা এখন দেশের পেসারদের 'আইকন'। তাদের দেখে অনেকেই পেস বোলিংয়ে উৎসাহী হবে। তাদের বের করে আনতে আমরা একটা ক্যাম্পের কথা ভেবেছি।"

[বাংলা]লাল দল সাকুল্যে ৫৯ ওভার খেলেছে। অল-আউট হয়েছে ২২৪ রানে। শনিবার সবুজ দলের ব্যাটিং দেখে যতটা খুশি হয়েছিলেন প্রধান নির্বাচক আকরাম খান। রোববার অতটাই প্রাণহীন ছিলেন মোহাম্মদ আশরাফুল, রকিবুল হাসান, শাহরিয়ার নাফিস, নাঈম ইসলাম, নাজমুল হোসেন, রুবেল হোসেন ও সৈয়দ রাসেলের ব্যাটিং দেখে।

লাল দলের পক্ষে যিনি ১০১ রানের অনবদ্য ইনিংস খেলেছেন সেই অপরাজিত ব্যাটসম্যান নাসির হোসেন আসলে জিম্বাবুয়েতে যাচ্ছেন না। যারা যাবেন এবং খেলবেন তাদের ব্যাটিং দৈন্যতা নির্বাচকদের কপালে চিন্তার ভাঁজ এঁকে দিচ্ছে। শুধু তো মুশফিকুর রহিম, মাহমুদউল্লাহ রিয়াদ এবং জুনায়েদ সিদ্দিককে নিয়ে জাতীয় দলের একাদশ নয়। বাকিদেরও তো রান করতে হবে।

অভিজ্ঞ ব্যাটম্যান মানে তো সেই পুরনো বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেট। যখন অনেক কষ্টেসৃষ্টে একটা মোটামুটি রানে পৌঁছাতে পারতো। যাদের ওপর ভরসা করে জয়ের স্বপ্ন দেখেনি কেউ। কদাচিৎ জিতে গেলে ক্রিকেট পন্ডিতরা বলতেন আপসেট। দেশের ক্রিকেট অনুরাগীরা তাকে যুক্তি দিয়ে বৈষম্য হিসেবে দেখাতে চেষ্টা করতেন। এতো সেই পুরনো দলের ক্রিকেটার।

ওহ শুধু ব্যাটসম্যান কেন বোলিংয়ে যিনি বেশি উইকেট পেয়েছেন তিনিও জিম্বাবুয়েতে যাচ্ছেন না। মো. ইলিয়াস ১৫ ওভারে ৪০ রান দিয়ে পেয়েছেন চারটি উইকেট। শফিউল ইসলাম ১১ ওভারে ৩১ রান দিয়ে শিকার করেছেন তিন ব্যাটসম্যানকে। আব্দুর রাজ্জাক থেকে থেকে পিটুনি খেয়েছেন। ১৩ ওভারে ৬৯ রান দিয়ে দুটি উইকেট পেয়েছেন।

Nasir stands out

Nasir Hossain and Elias Sunny gave an impression of their abilities during the final day of the practice game at the GP-BCB Academy ground yesterday.

Both all-rounders stood out on a day when the more serious contenders for place in the national side couldn't make the most of an opportunity to bat all day.

The Green XI, led by Mushfiqur Rahim, won by 137 runs after Mohammad Ashraful's Red XI were bowled out in 59 overs for only 224 runs.

Though the pitch and conditions on Sunday were similar to the first day when Junaed Siddiqui batted for more than five hours, Shahriar Nafees, Sahagir Hossain, Rokibul Hasan, Nayeem Islam and Ashraful fell cheaply within the 24th over.

After Rubel Hossain removed Sahagir in the fourth over, Nafees followed suit when he edged one off Shafiul Islam for four.

The wiry paceman then had Rokibul plumb in front when the right-hander completely misread a fast length ball. Ashraful and Naeem added 26 for the fourth wicket before both offered soft catches, leaving the match redundant.

Ashraful struck five splendid boundaries in his 52-ball 22 but as soon as left-arm spinner Sunny came to bowl, he gave Mahmudullah Riyad a simple catch at slip.

But Nasir decided to make the best of his first Tigers camp by hammering 18 boundaries and a six in a forceful three-hour essay. Along with Sohrawardi Shuvo, who made 29, he added 60 for the sixth wicket and remained unbeaten till the end. He reached his century off 120 balls, ending on an unbeaten 101.

Zimbabwe demands $30,000 for 2-day stay

Zimbabwe asked for an additional $30,000 for two days’ expenses prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board to drop the idea of sending the national team in advance for next month’s Test and one-day series, officials said on Sunday.

The BCB was keen to send the Tigers two days earlier on July 25 to facilitate

them playing a four-day warm-up match instead of scheduled two-day game before the one-off Test begins.

The visitors were ready to bear the expenses from their exchequer.

Why is this such a big deal? They aren't being a 'nice' host. For two days they are asking for 30K, so why is it so much? Not all the boards are self-sufficient like BCB. Look what happened to SLCB.. they cant even do a T20 tourney without India whereas Chittagong arranged a whole tournament in Dubai paying for the entire staff, cricketers etc. Zimbabwe doesnt have much money to begin with and they dont want BD to practice to beat them... Heck, its only Bangladesh that will allow opposition teams to practice in the center wicket or even allow them to come 15 days before the tournament starts to acclimate themselves.... Not all the countries are that 'Hosting' to hose themselves!!

ফিটনেস বাড়াতে জাতীয় দলের রানিংয়ে গতকাল স্লেজ নামে নতুন একটি ট্রেনিংয়ের সাথে পরিচিত হলেন ক্রিটোরররা। দুইদিনের অনুশীলন ম্যাচ শেষে রানিং করার সময় ক্রিকেটাররা ভিন্নমাত্রার এই ট্রেনিং করে। স্লেজ নামের ট্রেনিংটি মূলত দৌড়ানোর গতি বাড়ানোর জন্য কাজ করে থাকে। ভারি একটি বস্তুকে পিঠের উপরে রশি দিয়ে বেঁধে দৌড় দিয়েছেন ক্রিকেটাররা, কালই প্রথমবারের মত অনুশীলনে স্লেজ নামের এই ট্রেনিংটি যোগ হয়। প্রথমে তিন থেকে সাড়ে তিন কেজি ওজন হলেও ধীরে ধীরে এটিকে দশ কেজিতে উত্তীর্ণ করা হবে। তবে দশ কেজির বেশি দেয়া যাবে না বলে জানান বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের (বিসিবি) ডাক্তার দেবাশীষ চৌধুরী। ‘ফিটনেস ট্রেনিং এবং দৌড়ানোর গতি বাড়ানোর কারণেই স্লেজ নামের এই ট্রেনিং করানো হচ্ছে। তবে দশ কেজির বেশি দেয়া যাবে না কারণ এর বেশি দিলে তাদের ক্ষতি হতে পারে।’
শুধু স্লেজ নয়, পিঠে প্যারাসুট লাগিয়েও দৌড়ানোর গতি বাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করেছেন ক্রিকেটাররা। নতুন এই অনুশীলনে এগিয়ে অবশ্য পেসাররাই। বিশেষ করে ব্যাটসম্যানদের তুলনায় বোলারদের কাজে লাগবে বেশি। নতুন অনুশীলনে অবশ্য সবচেয়ে বেশি পয়েন্ট পেয়েছেন পেসার রবিউল ইসলাম শিপলু। অন্যদের তুলনায় তার ফিটনেসও ভালো বলে জানালেন সহকারি কোচ সারোয়ার ইমরান। ‘রবিউল ম্যাচে দীর্ঘক্ষণ বল করতে পারে। তার গতিও বেশ ভালো’। বিসিবির ডাক্তার সাময়িক ফিজিও হিসাবে জাতীয় দলে কাজ করছেন। তিনিও রবিউলের গতি নিয়ে বেশ প্রশংসা করলেন। ‘শাহাদাত হোসেন যেমন টেস্ট ম্যাচের জন্য বিবেচ্য হলেও কখনো তিনিও হাঁপিয়ে উঠেন। তবে রবিউল নিয়মিতভাবে বল করতে পারেন। টেস্ট ম্যাচের উপযুক্ত বোলার তিনি। যদিও একজন পেসারের ছন্দের পাশাপাশি ফিটনেসও বেশ জরুরি, বিশেষ করে টেস্ট ম্যাচে পেসারের দম থাকা দরকার। স্লেজ নামে নতুন এই অনুশীলন বোলারদের অনেক সহায়তা করবে। পাশাপাশি ব্যাটসম্যানদের জন্যও উপকার হবে। কারণ, রানিং করার সময় দৌড়ানোর গতি থাকা প্রয়োজন।
পেস বোলারদের ফিটনেস সমস্যা দীর্ঘদিনের। ছন্দ নেই, ফিটনেস ঠিক নেই বলে দমও হারিয়ে ফেলতে দেখা যায়। সে তুলনায় পেসার শাহাদাত হোসেন রাজিব, শফিউল ইসলামের ছন্দ অন্যদের তুলনায় বেশ ভালো। কাল সহকারি কোচ সারোয়ার ইমরানও সেটি স্বীকার করেছেন বটে, তবে কাল তিনি আলাদা করে তরুণ পেসার রবিউল ইসলাম শিপলুর ফিটনেসের বেশ প্রশংসা করলেন। বিশেষ করে, টেস্ট ম্যাচে একজন পেসারের যেটা প্রয়োজন শিপলুর ভিতরে সেই গুণাবলী রয়েছে। ম্যাচে যতক্ষণ খুশি বল করুক না কেন, শিপলুর মুখে কোন ক্লান্তির ছাপ থাকবে না। দুইদিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে রেড একাদশের হয়ে ১২ ওভার বল করে ৩৭ রানে নিয়েছেন ২ উইকেট। তরুণ এই পেসারের বোলিং দেখে কোচ মুগ্ধ। পাশাপাশি শফিউল ও রুবেল হোসেনেরও প্রশংসা করেছেন।
মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজার ইনজুরির কারণে গত বছর ইংল্যান্ড সফরে দলে সুযোগ পেয়েছিলেন ৪০টি প্রথম শ্রেণীর ম্যাচে ১২৪টি উইকেট পাওয়া শিপলু। সাতক্ষীরার এই বোলার একাডেমি ও দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা ‘এ’ দলের হয়ে ভালো পারফর্মেন্সও করেছেন। মাত্র একটি টেস্ট খেলা এই পেসারের জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে সুযোগ থাকবে যদি নির্বাচকরা ম্যাচে তিনজন পেসার খেলান। ফিটনেসের দিক দিয়ে যেহেতু অন্যদের তুলনায় শিপলু বেশ এগিয়ে তাই পেসার হিসাবে তার দ্বিতীয় টেস্ট খেলার সম্ভাবনাও উজ্জ্বল। স্লেজ নামের নতুন ট্রেনিং পেসারদেরও ভালো করার ভূমিকা রাখবে। প্রধান নির্বাচক আকরাম খান অবশ্য পেসারদের নিয়ে একটি ক্যাম্প করার কথা ভাবছেন। শফিউল, মাশরাফিদের মতো যেন আরো পেসার বের হয়ে আসতে পারেন।
দীর্ঘ ১৪ মাস পর জিম্বাবুয়ের মাটিতে টেস্ট খেলবে বাংলাদেশ। টেস্ট ম্যাচকে সামনে রেখে পেসারদের নিয়ে আলাদাভাবে কোচ কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন। সেখানকার বাউন্সি উইকেটের জন্যই পেসারদের দিকে নজর দেয়া। পেসাররা যেন ঠিকমত ছন্দ খুঁজে পায় তা নিয়েও কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন সহকারি কোচের দায়িত্ব পাওয়া ইমরান।

dude chill out! The last time he played test was last year! We all know that he improved in ODIs last year. He played less test and who knows maybe he will improve if he gets more chance..... who do we have without him? Its not wise to try out new young players in foreign soil, specially when its not spin friendly at all! Razzaq has lots of experience in that field so he has a good chance of performing.

বাংলাদেশের জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের চূড়ান্ত সূচি অনুযায়ী, ২৮ জুলাই জিম্বাবুয়ে পৌঁছে বাংলাদেশ দল বিশ্রাম নেবে ২৯ জুলাই।

তিন দিনের প্রথম প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে মাঠে নামবে ৩০ জুলাই। খেলা হবে হারারে স্পোর্টস ক্লাব মাঠে।

এক মাত্র টেস্টটি শুরু হবে একই মাঠে ৪ অগাস্ট।

পাঁচ ম্যাচের একদিনের সিরিজ শুরু হবে ১২ অগাস্ট। খেলা হবে হারারে স্পোর্টস ক্লাবে। পরের দুটি ম্যাচও হবে একই মাঠে, ১৪ ও ১৬ অগাস্ট। প্রথম ও তৃতীয় ম্যাচ হবে দিন-রাতের।

[বাংলা]জাতীয় দলের পেস আক্রমণের নেতৃত্ব কাঁধে তুলে নিতে প্রস্তুত বলে জানিয়েছেন রবিউল ইসলাম।

রাজধানীর শের-ই-বাংলা জাতীয় ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামে মঙ্গলবার অনুশীলন শেষে পেসার রবিউল ইসলাম বলেন, "আমি আত্মবিশ্বাসী। ভালো বল করছি। জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে দলে থাকা না থাকার বিষয়টি নির্বাচকদের উপর নির্ভর করছে। তবে আমি প্রস্তুত।"

বাংলাদেশ 'এ' দলের দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সফরে দলের পেস আক্রমণের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন রবিউল। সুযোগ পেলে জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরেও তা প্রমাণ করতে চান। তিনি বলেন, "দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা সফরে ভালো বল করেছি। ওখানে উইকেট ছিল পেস-সহায়ক। প্রচণ্ড ঠাণ্ডার মধ্যে খেলতে হয়েছে। পিচে সুইং ও বাউন্স, দু'টোই ছিল।"

এর আগে কখনো জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে যাননি রবিউল। উইকেট সম্পর্কেও কোনো ধারণা নেই বলে তিনি জানান।

উইকেট সম্পর্কে একটু ধারণা দিতেই তিনি বলেন, "ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে টানা বল করেছি। জিম্বাবুয়ের পেস-সহায়ক পিচেও ভালো করতে পারবো।"

আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটকে খুব কঠিন বলে বর্ণনা করেন তিনি। নিজের অভিষেক সম্পর্কে বলেন, "প্রথম টেস্ট খেলি লর্ডসে। ওই ম্যাচ খেলার আগে কয়েকটি প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে খেলেছি। সেগুলোতে ভালো করেছিলাম। কিন্তু টেস্টে মোটেও ভালো করিনি। অভিষেক বলেই হয়তো øায়ুচাপে ভুগছিলাম।"

ওই খেলায় ২৩ ওভার বল করে রান দেন ১১৯। তবে কোনো উইকেট পাননি।

এখন নিজেকে অনেক পরিণত বলে মনে করেন তিনি। বলেন, "ওই টেস্টের পর অনেক পরিশ্রম করেছি। এখন আমি অনেক পরিণত ও আত্মবিশ্বাসী।"

মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজা ও শাহাদাত হোসেনের অনুপস্থিতির পাশাপাশি দলে বোলিং কোচ নেই। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে কোনো নেতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়বে কি না, এই প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি বলেন, "আশাকরি কোনো সমস্যা হবে না। ঢাকা প্রিমিয়ার ডিভিশন লিগ এবং প্রথম শ্রেণীর ক্রিকেট খেলায় মাঠে নামার পর থেকেই কোচ হিসেবে সারোয়ার ইমরানকে পেয়েছি। তিনি আমাদের সঙ্গে জিম্বাবুয়ে যাচ্ছেন। সুতরাং কোনো সমস্যা হওয়ার কথা নয়।"[/বাংলা]

Against England at Lord's 2010. He went wicketless, but did get a run out of his bowling.

Robiul eyes second chance

Pace bowler Robiul Islam said on Tuesday that he does not want to be a part of the group of players who have failed to prolong their careers beyond their debut in Test cricket for Bangladesh.

So far, 59 players have represented Bangladesh in Test matches and among them seven were never picked in the side after their first Test while two others had been axed after a second chance.

Anwar Hossain, Ehsanul Haque, Faisal Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Bikash Ranjan Das and Robiul Islam are the players who have only played one Test match for the Tigers while the Test career of Mohammad Selim and Sajidul Islam ended after a second attempt.

Among this group, only Robiul and Nazmul have a realistic chance to claim a spot in the Test squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe in August.

Right-arm fast-medium bowler Robiul played his only Test at Lord’s last June against England and was discarded immediately after his 23 overs in swinging conditions failed to produce any wicket.

However, with the national team’s pace battalion weakened by the injuries to Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Shahadat Hossain, Robiul is expected to be given the nod.

Robiul is confident that he will be able to perform better this time round if given the chance as he is much better prepared to cope with the rigours of Test cricket.

‘I am confident that I will perform well if I am selected,’ Robiul told reporters at the Sher-e Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.

‘I was a bit nervous on my debut, more so because it was at Lord’s. I bowled well in the three practice matches in England but I did not expect to perform the way I did at Lord’s,’ said Robiul.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released the itinerary on Tuesday for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe where the Tigers will play one Test and five one-day internationals.

The tour will kick off with an earlier proposed three-day warm-up game as BCB failed to convince their Zimbabwean counterparts to make it a four-day affair. Zimbabwe Cricket has demanded additional money for the fourth day but BCB found no reason to pay extra money.

The lack of match practice can be an issue for the Tigers when they will make their return to Test cricket against Zimbabwe after more than a year's break. The team was supposed to tour South Africa before going to Zimbabwe for playing the longer-version game but it was cancelled citing that it would not be feasible trip for the team while the current inclement weather condition also made it difficult to play the proposed practice matches at home.

There was a lack of proper planning from the concerned authorities. Chief selector Akram Khan was also concerned about the lack of practice matches but the former captain was optimistic about the tour.

“The overall condition is not bad but the boys didn't get enough opportunity to play practice matches as we are going to play Test after a long gap,” said Akram while talking with reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

It will however also be a big challenge for Zimbabwe, who will play their first Test match for more than five years as they withdrew from Tests in January 2006 after senior players boycotted the side in a dispute with the cricket authority in the country. Despite this, Akram rated Zimbabwe's preparation highly.

“As far as I know Zimbabwe played longer-version matches against Australia A and South Africa A as part of their preparation for the tour. And they are going to play at home, so it will be a big challenge for us,” said Akram.

“But still I am hopeful about my team because we have been playing good cricket for the last few years. We have problems with our pace bowling department as our few frontline bowlers are now injured. The pacers will get an advantage from the Harare wicket, so we definitely miss the service of the top bowlers,” he added.

The selectors are expected to announce the team on Thursday.

“We will consider specialist players for the 15-member Test team,” said Akram.
