View Full Version : Wrong/Funny/Weird use of English in BD.

First of all it's a fun thread, it's true that English is not our mother tongue(for the majority ;) ) so it's quite normal to make mistakes.
Let's find out the funny or annoying side of English words (or expressions) used in Bangladesh.
Here goes :

In BD we always say "complain" even if it's used as a noun,should be "complaint" ( বছর খানেক আগে আমি নিজেও ... যাইহোক )
"Problem" ke "Poblem" bola :-D
"motor cycle" na bole "honda" bola
pronouncing "G" as "Z" ,example -> intellizent
"speed" ke "spreed" bola :lol:

can't remember anymore, ekhon apnarao ektu share koren.
"share" is perhaps one of the most common verb used in BD now a days which I find a bit annoying.

What i never understood was the switching of J and Z or S and Sh

If you cant pronounce something, i can understand it. But its odd when someone can pronounce s, j and z and then proceeds to say "Arzentina", "Brajil", "Shiddons", 'Ziraffe"

Thanks for clearing up this enigma. When i was a kid, i was used to think Lamandish (as i heard it pronounced) was an English word, however i found no trace of anything even close to that word as implying an idiot.

Thanks for the correction bro :)

Ramazan is only used by Bengali's really, most other people would call it by the real arabic name which is Ramadan as mentioned in the Quran.

Ramazan is used by the entire sub continent + Iran. Just like "Namaz/Namaj"

Namaz also comes from Farsi. It isn't the correct term really, it should be Salah.
