True.

Confidence is a big factor in cricket. Zimbos are really confident now. We barely cross 200 marks regularly every innings. So it would be a tough job to win the series.

I expect that we will lose an early wicket. So, we need a right handed batsmen to face vitori and jarvis. Moreover, I think 3 pacer is a must on this pitch. In the test, pacers (zimbabwean though) got good movement than any of the spinners did. And when our 2 pacers (rubel & shafi) seemed to struggle, its better to have a back up bowler Nazmul.

Vitori won't be that much effective in ODI, this is my guess. :)

If our pacers bowl the same kind of trash as they did in test, then I won't think playing 2 or 3 pacers would make any difference.

The matter of fact, all of our bowlers bowled trash. Even Shakib, razzaq kept bowling on leg side, short pitched balls and pacers bowled all over the place. But its a new ball game. Hopefully they will bowl better line and length in ODI. :)

I have a feeling shakib & Co. will go for 3 pacers.

So, they are not bringing in Alok Kapali, Syed Rasel or anyone just Shamshur Shobho for the ODI series? With the seaming wicket, I wouldve hoped they thought of Rasel, if he was fit enough to join the party.

The Mesoamerican ballgame or Tlatchtli in Náhuatl was a sport with ritual associations played since 1,000 B.C.[1] by the pre-Columbian peoples of Ancient Mexico and Central America. The sport had different versions in different places during the millennia, and a modern version of the game, ulama, is still played in a few places by the local indigenous population.

The rules of the ballgame are not known, but judging from its descendant, ball, they were probably similar to racquetball.[2] where the aim is to keep the ball in play. The stone ballcourt goals (see photo to right) are a late addition to the game. This later addition of the game changed the game entirely though, since an immediate win could be attained from them by tossing the balls in the ring, or points could be scored by simply tossing the ball so that it touched the ring.[1]

In the most widespread version of the game, the players struck the ball with their hips, although some versions allowed the use of forearms, rackets, bats, or handstones. The ball was made of solid rubber and weighed as much as 4 kg (9 lbs), and sizes differed greatly over time or according to the version played.

The game had important ritual aspects, and major formal ballgames were held as ritual events, often featuring human sacrifice

The association between human sacrifice and the ballgame appears rather late in the archaeological record, no earlier than the Classic era.[52] The association was particularly strong within the Classic Veracruz and the Maya cultures, where the most explicit depictions of human sacrifice can be seen on the ballcourt panels – for example at El Tajin (850-1100 CE)[53] and at Chichen Itza (900-1200 CE) – as well as on the well-known decapitated ballplayer stelae from the Classic Veracruz site of Aparicio (700-900 CE). The Postclassic Maya religious and quasi-historical narrative, the Popol Vuh, also links human sacrifice with the ballgame (see below).

Captives were often shown in Maya art, and it is assumed that these captives were sacrificed after losing a rigged ritual ballgame.[54] Rather than nearly nude and sometimes battered captives, however, the ballcourts at El Tajin and Chichen Itza show the sacrifice of practiced ballplayers, perhaps the captain of a team.[55] Decapitation is particularly associated with the ballgame – severed heads are featured in much Late Classic ballgame art and appear repeatedly in the Popol Vuh. With the Aztec version of the game, the skulls of losing teammembers were even placed in a 'skull rack' besides the field, and their blood was offered as 'food for the gods'.[1] There has even been speculation that the heads and skulls were used as balls.

Strong batting lineup no reason not to score 300+ which is the key in this wicket
300+ in Harare!!! You got to be kidding. Tests and ODIs have different scores and i cant remember the last time a team scored more than 280. One of the pitches there is a 220-230 and the other a 260-70 pitch. The key will be to bat first, there is a 80% chance that a team batting first will win that is if they dont slog but go at 4 runs an over

What I heard, it was supposed to be a flat track. That's why I said 300 if we can go with an extended batting line up.
And it happened. Wasn't it in Harare when u chased down 320+ score courtesy of Tamim's 150 and Coventry also scored 194?

If I remember correctly, all teams batting first in last year's tri-nations featuring Zim, SL and Ind lost the game at HSC even at Queens. Even in the games against Ireland except for one which Zim lost after a middle order collapse. What I know is 300+ is gettable, but at the same time it can be chased down with ease as the wickets out there are pretty flat.

The India, SLanka triangular was played at queens and only the last 3 games were played in Harare. The recent triangular against Auz A and SA A i think only twice did a team batting second win because the wicket slowed down big time in the afternoon. Queens is the runs wicket, Harare has less runs. I am certain no team will score 300+ in the first 3 games.

Ja, 300+ is tough to get, but it is gettable. It only takes a century, 3 half centuries and a slog from the lower order to get it. In the test match the wicket held up nicely for FIVE DAYS, what about in a single day? Well as you say, none of THESE teams can get 300+ as both batting line ups don't look strong enough, but you never know man.

^wow that's great news! I was just thinking of what the 11 should be and I had Hom and Nasir in there and dropped Riyad. Its a good decision in my opinion. Its time to see what those 2 have to offer for us. Riyad has already had time to show his skills at the highest level and while he's been decent, he definitely hasn't cemented his position. Best of luck to Hom and Nasir.

But Lalla will play as he has very good records against Zim. Robiul should be replaced by Nazmul as he would be more economical. Then again, Robiul is capable of providing early breakthroughs. Catch 22 here.

Yes its sad, but you have to take into consideration that we have a new coach and you need to impress the coach forgeting about the past. The TEST was the 1st opportunity to impress the new coach. Where Ash utilized the opportunity, Riyad failed to present his case the opportunity he got.

Looks like Nasir showed enough to get coach's attention and someone need to go. And this time most likely it will be Riyad.

That's the way it worked in professional sports. You need to perform at the right time to get the break that you may think that you deserve.

Its seems like its not our friendship day today. Have to disagree with you...AGAIN. A proven performer should not be retained in the side on the basis of impressing a new coach. I'm not saying Riyad is a Tendulaker or Dravid but would they have to impress the new coach before they are selected.

Again, you're penalising Riyad for his poor show at an one-off TEST match for ODI here. He is one of our better performers in recent ODIs. I don't see the logic. Myabe, the fast has got to me!

PS- Its the captain who is supposed to have the major say in picking the playing XI...not the new coach.

Based on my interpretation on what we are hearing, it looks like TEST perforamnce MAY have played a role selecting the 1st ODI team. Riyad's postion in the team was not rock solid in the team anyway. Riyad has some success and some failures, I don't think Riyad falls under "proven performer".

Again, you're penalising Riyad for his poor show at an one-off TEST match for ODI here. He is one of our better performers in recent ODIs. I don't see the logic. Myabe, the fast has got to me!

I am not penalizing anybody and I also know that TEST is not ODI. But I also know that Riyad's position in the team is not rock solid and he need to impress the new coach to get more playing time.

btw I wouldn't complain if Riyad is in the team. I am happy as long as Nasir is in the team, with or without Riyad.

PS- Its the captain who is supposed to have the major say in picking the playing XI...not the new coach.

I think things have changed from Siddon. I think Law is more involved in selection of the final 11 than Siddon used to be. I think you will seee more evidence in future. He is gradually putting his authority there.

Is it good or Bad for Bangladesh cricket, thats a different discussion.

I think it should be Hom vs Riyad for the #6/7 spot and Nasir vs Razzak for the #8 spot. I think it would be hard on riyad to get the chop after that knock against Australia but its not like Riyad has won us matches with his batting. And at many times during games, when we needed to push the run rate up, he's struggled to up the tempo. Bottom line is that he has to bat at #4 or #5 to have enough time to settle in. The problem is since Ash and Shakib are occupying those spots, Riyad has to go down to #6/7 which is tough for him since he takes time to settle in. So should try to look for a guy that come in at 6/7 to come in and takes less time to settle in. If Sohel bhai is right about Hom, he could be a good fit for us.

I am not convinced with his List A records. Again we are picking a ODI player based on his FC records. :(

If he should have been in the squad then it had to be in the test match first. We are doing the same mistakes over and over again!!

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have played each other 31 times in the last five years, with Bangladesh winning 23 of those encounters. Overall, they have clashed 51 times, with 28 victories going the way of Bangladesh and 23 wins to Zimbabwe.

Shahriar Nafees's batting average against Zimbabwe is 62.41, almost double his overall average of 33.34. Three of his four hundreds came against them, including his highest score of 123.

Ray Price's best bowling figures of 4 for 22 came against Bangladesh in January 2009. His highest score with the bat, 46, was also achieved against Bangladesh in August that same year.

i say drop Razzak and bring in Nasir!!!

Nasir wont do do worse with the ball than lalla and his batting at number 8 will be BONUS:D

Drop Robiul, brin gin Nazmul and keep the rest as the test match.

cant drop lalla..its odi and vs zim..so razzak is a auto choice in any given pitch

dont agree with mahmudullah being drop though..this guy was given an opportunity for the 1st time in the middle order in the last odi and he did preety well..no point dropping him based on one test match..odi and test are whole different ball game

Even though he scored 68 of 61 ... He quit during the most important part of the Run Chase and than scored freely when the match was out of reach and there less pressure.

I would also say that SN did wilt during the Run Chase as well, as he couldn't come to terms with bowling but he did make a effort to try to up the RR but failed.

Still too much turnover in the team and I don't like it

If Hom and Nasir are chosen than they better be given a full run of games.

Your bangla's probably 50 times better than mine, I'm from a different city in Bangladesh all together :D.
I'm from Syhlet, so I speak a different dialect. It is almost completely different to Shuddho Basha...

e.g. ''Dactar ashar purbe rugi mara gelo'' in Syhleti is ''dactor awar ageu rugi mara gese'' which translates to '' before the doctor came, the patient had died.

Sorry to bring this up again, but does this mean people from Syhleti find it difficult to communicate with people from Dhaka? Which Bangla dialect is considered standard? Last but not least, which dialect gets you the chicks?:-) I'm asking all this because I speak Brazilian Portuguese and I find it difficult to communicate with someone from Portugal or Angola so I was just wondering if it's the same in your case. Unless Riyad has an injury he is an auto choice after Shakib, Tamim. Other than that, the only change we are likely to go through is drop a pacer and take Nasir/ Hom. But i really hope Nazmul plays instead of Rubel

Well, Riyad has played well, but this should be his only opportunity should he fail for we now have back up who are willing and more than ready to take his place. For now, Shakib, Tamim, Riyad and Imrul make a decent core if they can keep it consistent.

I know it has been stated before but the management seriously need to start selecting certain players for certain formats only :-

Imrul Kayes only for ODIs. He is not Test class or at least not ready for Tests. His batting average is lower than Abdur Razzak!! He can be selected for the A team when they play 4 day games to improve in that format.
Junaid Siddique only for Tests. This guy was one of the best performers in Test cricket last year for Bangladesh, but still the management make the moronic decision to drop him for Nafees. Imrul should have been dropped for Nafees, and then either Nafees or Junaid could have opened, with the other coming in at one down. Again he could improve his one-day game by playing for the A team in that format.
Abdur Razzak only for ODIs. This guy is awful in the longer format, even his domestic record is ordinary so why is he being picked for Tests? If another SLA is needed alongside Shakib in Tests then Suhrawadi Shuvo should be given the opportunity. He has had exposure to International cricket by playing some ODIs and also has a very impressive first class record, which includes a handy batting average.
Jahurul Islam, once he gets fit again he should be considered for Tests only as he been very impressive in that format in the domestic games, whilst being relatively ordinary in the one-day game.
These are the main ones but if there are others who seem to struggle in one format whilst succeeding in the other then the same should apply to them.

Bd will definately lose today. Why?

1.Our bowlers aren't performing well and Zimbo's got really good bowlers.According to cricinfo we got 6 left handi.Vitori and Jarvis both are really good find for Zimbo's and they did really well in test match. We also seen how good they are against left handi,so this will be a really good plus point for them.

2. Zimbo batsman did well in test match and looks like they are in really good form vs our inconsistents batsman, lagle lagse naili Gillie Gillie Putu Putu.

Hope I am wrong.;):)

BTW if bd lose this series it's all Zeezhan and the 1 opened thread called"who will score first 200 for bd" is fault".Both of them should be given BC Gonno Dulai.:)

on topic, I do not think Vitori/Jarvis are so much better than Rubel/Shafiul. I think playing too many ODIs have hurt their attacking instincts, specially when our pacers are playing a containing role for the past 10-12 months. I am sure if exposed to proper first class cricket, Shafiul/Rubel can outclass Vitori/Jarvis. The difference shown in the harare test was mainly due to the preparation in my opinion.
