August 9, 2011, 09:17 AM
I am involved with a charity organization run by students of different Universities called ‘Communiy Action’. Among many of our projects one is called the ‘Action: Piyaju-Beguni ‘in which we collect donations and share our iftar with thousands of street children throughout the month of Ramadan in different areas of Dhaka city since 2009. This year we also have included Chittagong and Sylhet in our action list. This year, starting on 5 August, we have successfully distributed iftar to around 1000 street children at Dhanmondi, Rayerbazar, Mohammedpur .

An Iftaar with a Difference– Action: Piyaju-Beguni 2011 (Day 4)
Posted on August 10, 2011 by S.M Bargeen Alam Turzo

Action: Piyaju-Beguni 2011(Day 4) was simply a blast, an experience of a lifetime. In spite of the heavy rain and terrible traffic conditions, I had high hopes of completing the action successfully. And that was made possible by the fantastic actioneers who did a fabulous job and made our action a success. Altogether there were nine of us who pulled off the whole event in Rayer Bazar on 8th August.

However I faced few problems in the morning including a shortage of fund. So the bottled water had to be excluded from the menu and it was just the Biriyani for the kids. Luckily the kids did not seem to mind the changed arrangements at all and their broad smiles were proofs of that. It was just like Saifullah Mithu bhaiya said during the meeting- that this action is a mixture of hard work and a lot of fun with your friends which ultimately gives inexplicable satisfaction. That is exactly what I experienced today.

Our aim was to cover most of the Rayer Bazar area and distribute 150 packets of iftaar. The task was simple as we got the Biriyanis packed from the restaurant. All we had to do was to distribute the food among the kids. We started the distribution from Buddhijibi Smriti Soudho and then made our way ahead.

The iftaar distribution went very smoothly. The actioneers managed to gather the kids in a straight line and I heard one of the kids saying cheerfully,“সোজা হয়ে দাঁড়াও… সোজা হয়ে দাঁড়াও!!” Our rewards were those priceless smiles of sheer joy that we got from the kids upon getting the food. Just the innocent smiles were more than enough to make us feel that all our hard work has finally paid off.

Action:Piyaju-Beguni has been an extremely rewarding experience and I think it should not be missed by any actioneer. I can guarantee that the time spent on this action will be among the best times of their lives and leave them with some beautiful memories to cherish.
