koi= it is a "fish name"

Haa ZimSlog pay attention....

Koi - A Japanese word, meaning Koi, a type of red/white landscape pool living, decorative fish.
Koi - A Bengali word, meaning Koi fish (Koi maach), not the same Japanese Koi here man, totally different animal all together...Silver Black, best known for it's fried taste in eastern BD.
Koi - A Bengali word meaning 'Where'..a variation of the word 'Kothai'? Like 'Oi Shala, Tumar matha Koi?' = 'Hello dear Brother-in-law, Where is yo head?'

Now add an 'H' to the word 'Koi' and it becomes 'Khoi'

Khoi - A Bengali for a type of puffed rice, we eat it.
Khoi - A Bengali word for nose booger, we DO NOT eat it.
Khoi + Doi = Famous Bengali dish, ask for it next time you are in BD...ask for for it on demand!

Kuhu Kuhu - The sound a Bangladeshi bird species Geni Kokilia deltabengalies common name 'Kokil' makes in Autumn...'Koohoo koohoo or Kuhu kuhu...also known as the sound made by post puberty young baloods!!

Ohh ZimSlog, I advice you to buy A.T. Dev's common Early, Ancient and Modern Bengali + Sanskreet for Beginners and a copy of The Horo Laal Roy Bengali Beakoron that is grammer for yuo ASAP! Buy them on e-bay, amazon 24/7...

Though not Bangla but widely used in everyday life in Bangladesh:

As salaamu 'alaikum (peace be unto you). The Arabic word "salaam" in Bangla/Sanskrit translated as SHANTI. Como "Om Shanti". :)

Al hamdu lillah - All praise to God. "Hallelujah" could be the Judeo-Christian equivalent. Praise in Bangla PROSHONGSHA (pro shong sha). So you could do proshongsha of your hobu Bangladeshi bou in Bangla now, too. :)

hahah good ones goru. He is just messing with some 'street' bangla. But ZimSlog dont dare using those with a Bengali girl, it can get you killed...

bhai/vai (phonetically very similar) means Brother.
bon (pronounced like loan with a b) means Sister.

Bangla (or Bengali) is relatively easy to learn, the words can be easily spelled phonetically in english and the nouns/verbs are mostly not gender specific or singular/plural specific (I find this to be biggest hurdle when trying to learn a sentence or two in spanish or french for example)

Yeah I noticed Bangla is not all that difficult compared to latin languages. The sentence construction is not as complicated as is the case in Spanish, Portuguese etc.

Zimslog bro, since you decided to marry a Bangladeshi girl and decided on having Bangladeshi Shoshur/Shashuri (Father in-law, Mother in-law) you need to learn few other Bangali things along with the language...

this is a Bodna...do you know what it is used for?

Watch this...

...okay, dhonnobad, I guess :-)... marrying a Bangladeshi girl is going to be tough, I'm not Muslim. most of the Deshi families here in Zim don't allow Christian-Muslim marriages. I don't know why, but it really hurts because I've had a few relationships with girls of Bangladeshi descent and all of them have ended in me being chased away by the father because,"I didn't deserve these wonderful jewels". I'm not giving up mate, I will marry a beautiful Deshi girl and live happily ever after...

:wow: ZimSlog bro, i thought you are a 34 year old married man...:umm: no wonder why your wife is so strict about your online forum activities..she has my 100% support now! :D

Thanks for welcoming me to your forum. I'd really like to tell you my real name, but I'd be in deep trouble with my wife. Not so long ago my life my taken over by these cricket forums and I paid little attention to my wife and family. She made me promise that I'd never post on any cricket forums and to make sure she hid my laptop so that I couldn't get involved again. I'm doing this behind her back and if she finds out I'm screwed! I hope you understand. Trust me, Amar bou khub raagi manoosh!
