Siddons backs sakib

MUMBAI, Sept. 8: Former Bangladesh coach, Jamie Siddons believes that the selector should not be banned to enter the players' dressing room. Stuart Law, the new coach was alleged (by deposed captain Shakib Al Hassan) to have shown his displeasure over the presence of selector, Habibul Bashar Sumon and the tour observer, Shafiqur Rahman Munna (also the Bangladesh cricket Board director) in the dressing room during last Zimbabwe tour.

Speaking exclusively from Wellington, where he is a coach now, Jamie Siddons said, "I believe a selector should be allowed to visit the dressing rooms and sit in there to discuss or chat at times but should not make it his home during a game".

"I have never understood the reasoning behind having an observer with the team and especially not in the rooms. This is a blatant mistrust of the coach and players and is never a positive", he further added.

"Occasionally you will get someone like the cricket Operations Chairman, Enayet Hossain Siraj but more often it is someone that just is in the way and offers nothing at all to the tour. This member of the touring party should be another coach or massuer", said Siddons.

Siddons also praised Shakib's captaincy. "He (Shakib) is the only person to lead the side. Not one other player in the side apart from may be Ash is willing to take it on as they know there is no support around them and they will be blamed for any results".

"A captain must be consulted on everything regarding the team and must be listened to when he speaks or raises an issue. This does not happen with Shakib or any other captain at present! He is a great thinker and is also the team's best and most respected player, perfect credentials for a captain", Siddons signed off.

I didn't want to comment on him. but his tone in that sentence sounds familiar, "if Tamim doesn't score, we can't win" ...... His excellency has damaged Sakib and Tamim by such statements and by breaking the confidence of the rest of the guys. While Law took the name of almost half of the team. Wheather they are or not, but that instills confidence in players and the team. Law, very rightly used the situation to inspire, but this guy is always trying to provide personalized service at the cost of the team. Here is the difference between a coach and layman. Even Ian Pont who has seen the team closely, never hinted such things in his recent comments on BC.

We all know Shakib is capable, why does he have to say that nonsense about the others? This guy has damaged us and we are still suffering due to him, and then he comes out again with such rubbish.

I agree. It is the cause of JS where Shakib is today. A humble, upright player to look upon to a arrogant and no-care player. JS should be accountable for downfall in the WC.

JS's statement does not help in Shakib's cause. It will make him more arrogant; probably adverse effect to his career. His opinion was not sought for.

Former Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons has come out in support of Shakib Al Hasan, the recently-sacked national captain. Shakib, Siddons said, has the 'perfect credentials' for a captain, but lacked the support required to lead the team.

"He [Shakib] is the only person to lead the side," Siddons, who now coaches Wellington in New Zealand, told Bangladesh newspaper, the Independent. "A captain must be consulted on everything regarding the team and must be listened to when he speaks or raises an issue. This does not happen with Shakib or any other captain at present. He is a great thinker, and is also the team's best and most-respected player, perfect credentials for a captain."

Shakib and his deputy Tamim Iqbal were axed earlier this week following Bangladesh's poor performance during last month's tour of Zimbabwe, with indiscipline being cited as one of the reasons for their removal. Shakib has always had strained relations with the board, having questioned team-selection more than once. Current Bangladesh coach Stuart Law had expressed surprise at Shakib's removal and said he had the respect of his players.

Siddons had coached Bangladesh between October 2007 and April 2010, and moved to the Wellington job after his contract was not renewed following a disappointing World Cup and home series against Australia. Siddons and Shakib worked together in the capacity of coach and captain for close to two years, barring brief spells when Mashrafe Mortaza took charge.

The selectors have not named a new captain, triggering speculation about who could be ready to take over. Mushfiqur Rahim, who has played 24 Tests and 98 ODIs, and is one of the few players who is a regular part of the national XI, is tipped as a frontrunner for the job. Siddons, though, said he did not think the players were eager for the post. "Not one other player in the side apart from maybe Ash [Mohammad Ashraful] is willing to take it [captaincy] on. They know there is no support around them and they will be blamed for any results."

Siddons also said he did not understand the need to have a selector or observer in the dressing-room during matches. During the tour of Zimbabwe, Siddon's successor Stuart Law had reportedly expressed displeasure over selector Habibul Bashar and 'tour observer' Shafiqur Rahman Munna's presence in the dressing room.

"I believe a selector should be allowed to visit the dressing-room and sit in there to discuss or chat at times, but should not make it his home during a game," Siddons said. I would prefer him to be a specialist number 4 and give up keeping to balance captaining and batting. Jahirul can come in for batting, as he showed at lord's with Mushy still being there.

i don't know if mushy has anything to do with shak/ti axing, but he becoming skipper sure won't do any good to jahirul or anamul's cause......mushy has never been a great performer (barring a few consolidating innings in low scoring odis), with batting or keeping...his batting averages will prove he ain't even an average keeper all rounder of modern day games let alone a great one....his place shouldn't be secured in the team specially with jahirul or anamul around...but he becoming captain, bd will have to live with a second string team for long...
