They are not necessarily the best players in the team. But, calling TIK or SAH as cool is like calling the polar icecap black!

From previous evidence it has to be Naeem and Ryad surely! because these are the two guys that can keep a cool head during a big chase and go along quietly with their test match batting. They are special because anyone else in their position would be foolish and become hot headed in order to try and keep up with the asking run rate.

Surely there must be more objective criteria for determining who the most 'cool headed' player is. On what basis are Naeem and Mahmudullah more 'cool headed' than Shakib and Rubel? The posters above have only considered batsmen, but bowlers have to keep a cool head when bowling at the death as well.

So, what would this criteria be? For Batsmen: The number of not outs? The number of times a batsman has been the team's highest scorer in an innings? The number of times that a batsman has been not out when the team successfully chased a score? What else?

For Bowlers: The amount of runs they give in the final/penultimate/death/powerplay overs? The strike rate and number of wickets they have/take in any of those passages of play?

Would Tournaments and the World Cup and the matches therein be weighed more heavily than ordinary matches because of the pressure factor?

(I'm not considering Tests in the above, just ODIs. I don't think we've drawn, let alone won, enough matches to justify calling anyone 'cool headed')

Shakib is not a cool headed player. The way he bats now-a-days, seems like he would kill everyone on the field if he had sword instead of bat. Shakib may not be expressive like any other hot headed players, but that does not serve him as 'Cool headed' player. Shakib and Cool is an 'Oxymoron' and i have mentioned it in this thread (http://banglacricket.com/alochona/showthread.php?t=38109).

My vote is for "Mushy" and "Riyad". Both of them have played some calm and matured winning innings for Bangladesh specially, Riyad in WC 11 against England.

Now, that's a very good question.I didn't think about any criteria actually. In the team I find Riyad and Naeem to be more calm, composed and cool headed as I didn't see them getting aggressive in any situation. Having said that, I would like them to bring some aggressiveness in their approach.

On the other hand Tamim, Shakib, Mushy, Rubel, all of them are aggressive players and that's perfectly alright. Mushy doesn't look that aggressive while batting but he looks very aggressive when he is keeping (of course the aggressiveness didn't work for him quiet well.. he makes way too many mistakes). I personally like the aggressive players more and I would like to see them cool headed at the same time. But somehow our aggressive players loses their cool very often :( .

But you are right, there should be some criteria to judge their coolness which will make it easier to pick the best one.

Naimul bhai, how many times have Mushy and Riyad played calm and match winning innings? Riyad in WC 11 against England and Mushy in the T20 against West Indies - what else? I know I'm not the only person in BC who could reel off a number of examples of Shakib doing the same with bat and ball.

More importantly, a cool headed player should be able to fight against insurmountable odds. Mushy did that recently against Zimbabwe, when he scored his first ODI ton but in practically every series since he scored 50-odd* against England in WC 2007 to the 67* in the first ODI in the recently concluded West Indies series, Shakib has performed in such a manner with bat and ball. No matter what his on-field antics have been and the allegations against him off-field, his performances reflect a certain steeliness in his performance (even despite the occasional rash stroke). If Naeem and Riyad, who come below him in the ODI batting order, had shown a similar steeliness more often, we would have more ODI wins.

Naeem is cool-headed when we chase a lot of run and when asking run rate more than 6.00, he scores at the strike rate of less than 30.

Then I look him so cool!!!!!

I simply meant that was a match winning innings in the context of the game. (Without detracting from Shafiul's initiative seizing, decisive innings) He didn't get out at an inopportune moment like our other batsmen when Shafiul was seizing the initiative and provided a measure of stability at the other end.

(In any case, I only mentioned Riyad because so many of the posters above have said that he is the player with the 'coolest head' - on what basis though?)
