According to Inqilab...

1. Bidyut (If not fit, Hannan will replace him)
2. Kapali.
3. Sumon
4. Rajin
5. Ash
6. Mushfiq
7. Sujon
8. Pilot
9. Rana
10. Rafiq
11. Tapash

March 5, 2004, 04:04 PM
Hannan should have been included at least as backup keeper, asuming the report is correct.

March 5, 2004, 04:06 PM
now we need groundsman not batsman lol the play wont happen withoout them

March 5, 2004, 04:40 PM
Sujon Again?????????????

March 5, 2004, 04:49 PM
take me i can play better than sujon or even other who will score ducks

March 5, 2004, 05:04 PM
I don't think Kapali's in the team

March 5, 2004, 05:29 PM
I think we do have a chance. Since it is very likely to rain, we might face a target lot smaller and just might be lucky.

However, I dont see us winning a full 50 over match.

March 5, 2004, 05:57 PM
What is sujon adding to this team ? He is easily replacable by Mushfiq. If you look at the team, batting is considerably weakened by bringing in Sujon in the mix.

We really don't have any all rounders in the team. Rana is a bowler but his batting has been showcased so far, his bowling was toothless. Mushfiq is a bit of both and does take wickets from time to time. Sujon can't bat and his bowling is a joke (he used to be good at it but we can't pick players based on what they did 4/3/ or even a year ago).

As always, for bangladesh, I am always happy to be proven wrong and in the end, whatever team we pick, we'll have to behind them 100% (up until they lose - then we can tear them apart, eheheh).

March 5, 2004, 07:40 PM
One thing we are ignoring that who will star the bowling with Tapash with new balls? Is it Shujon or Mushfique? Will they be able to fully use the new ball? I am afraid that they really can do that. If we can not control the first 15 overs of the game (if Zim bat first) then we may be out of the game at the very first stage
Hopefully this time Shujon will be able to show something that he was looking for a long long time

March 5, 2004, 07:46 PM
Mushfiq will start. However, I hope, if Sujon sucks in bowling this match, it will be Tarek from next match.

March 5, 2004, 08:19 PM
i still think that we should play with at least 3/4 specialist bowler in ODI's. where we have only Tapash and Rafique as a specialist bowler well may be Rana too? Are we going to fight with so many so called allrounder?

March 5, 2004, 08:53 PM
Team should be:

3 quicks if you include Mushfiqur, strong batting with Kapali at 6 and Mushfiqur at 8, many part time spinners to fill the overs of number 5

March 5, 2004, 10:22 PM
Hannan is definitely a much better batsman than shujon.

The question Kintu is: Is Mahmud's bowling going to be a lot better than a 10 over combination of Kapali, Ashraful and Rajin.

(Assuming Rafiq, Rana, Mushfiq & Taposh get 10 each)

This argument should conclusively prove that Mahmud sits and Hannan plays.

March 5, 2004, 10:34 PM
Come on guys... give sujon a chance. After all we keep talking about how close we came to beating Pakistan... but never WHY we came close.

March 5, 2004, 10:46 PM
I am giving Sujan a rope. He can either hang himself with it (again) or use it to climb out of the hole.

i'm a big sujon fan and really want him to come back if possible. but not straight to the the top 11 of the national team. i don't believe his performance deserve to be anywhere close to national team now. i'd be happy to have him back but after proving himself in the dhaka league. at this point i'd rather have hannan in the team as opener and not sujon.

I agree with u , let's give Sujon a strong rope. I'm sure he will suck today and bring us down if he plays.

Hairay...Bangladesh! We have better players right there in Zimbabwe and we are not using them.

This time , if we loose, I will have more anger on our selectors including Arafat Rahman with due respect for his good work on other areas. He is the intrumental for bringing Sujon back and cause this misery.

March 6, 2004, 12:29 AM
geez... u r STILL being harsh to the poor bloke. Come on!!! He is ur own Country Man.

March 6, 2004, 12:41 AM
Dude...we want a win!!!

We cant afford now to give someone this kind of 'bonus' for his past contributions. I agree that Sujan played excellent during our last ODI win against Pakis. But those are history now. We need to look forward and bring win for us. I'm just a fan like all of you. And I am sure, we all want win.

Country agey, torpor favour to a countryman.

Last Sept. I travelled all the way to your place , Cairns to cheer the team.......

We cant take those dis-hearted feeling anymore. This time we are playing Zimbabwe, this is the time for a WIN!!!!

hey guys, it's good to be back to banglacricket.

anyways, i really think having alok as an opener might really come out to be a good thing. in case u guys didn't know, alok will be opening with either bidyut or hannan. he'll be able to play his natural strokeplay, and hopefully will come out of the slump.

i'd love to see sujon play good, but i'd rather have alamgir playing.

March 6, 2004, 01:17 AM
alok kapali opening - what kind of drugs are being passed around, I'll have some.:)

if they need an opener (why do they need an opener, who is injured??), then rokon is the opener, not kapali.

I agree with h_fan, we need genuine quicks so manju or tareq/alamgir would have gotten the second seamer slot. Manju is an effective one day player. sujon has no business taking that slot.

and rana vs kapali for number 6? why wouldn't you take rana on current form?

that lineup from inquilab is a nonsense team and I can't believe dav whatmore would be fielding this. those inquilab sports writers are simply delirious from attending too many jamaat raves

March 6, 2004, 01:18 AM
From Cricinfo "Bangladesh, meanwhile, have recalled their former captain Khaled Mahmud, in place of Alok Kapali, who damaged his forearm while batting in this week's abandoned match against Zimbabwe A.

Is this true?

March 6, 2004, 02:04 AM
ummm rafiq vai, is marijuana okay? :D

but seriously, according to www.prothom-alo.com dav whatmore was supposedly moving kapali to the opening spot. damn i'm confused. now there's a report in cricinfo saying that kapali wont even be playing!! good god!

anyways, sorry guys for my mistake earlier. i guess that report was wrong.

Dude...we want a win!!!

I think with so many conflicting reports, and so many changes, the dream of a win is completely useless.

The two experiments that I am observing:

1. Kapali to open

2. Monju not in the final eleven

And prothom Alo's report also saying that Kapali is thought to be a long-term opener for Bangladesh in ODIs, which means that if he fails once or twice, he will still continue to open in another One Day series or so. I am saying this because the 1st and the 2nd ODIs both are gonna be washouts, so then Dav won't find too much time to experiment, and there'll be more experimenting in the 3rd, 4th and the 5th ODI in Harare. And only 3 ODIs are not good enough to learn something from experimenting.

Furthermore, Monju is not in the final eleven of Dav's mind, instead, Prothom Alo reports that may be Tareq will play in the first ODI, and also from the Inquilab as the first thread of this topic said, Sujon can play in place of Monju. Without Monju, we have only one pace bowler who can bowl at the end of an innings, and that is Tapash. Mushfique, Rana are not experienced enough to bowl at the end of the innings, or doesn't know how to bowl blockhole balls. Surprisingly, Tapash can bowl that ball only after 1 year of his debut, so that was a plus point for Bangladesh; but now as Monju is not in the 1st choice of two new ball bowlers of caoch Whatmore, we're in the process of finding yet another bowler who can restrict the opposition batsman. I am not counting Rafique, because it has been observed earlier that spinners in particular usually don't do well in Zimbabwe.

March 6, 2004, 04:27 AM
well... r they playing the same team for the 2nd ODI?

March 6, 2004, 02:21 PM
By sending Kapali in as an opener, we are simply putting an end to the career of another promising youngster...

March 7, 2004, 03:24 AM
i, too, hate the idea of experimenting with our players. but this could turn out to be a good thing for us. sending kapali to open will let him play his natural aggressive game. usually he comes to bat at number 5, most times having to settle the innings after the team have lost early wickets, restrickting him from playing strokes.

then again remembering al shahriar scares us even more.
