Welcome to the official BPL T20 thread of the Chittagong team - All The Best to our pride.

My 2.2 cents for the Chittagong team @ BPL T20

1. Tamim (icon player / ctg based)
2. Md. Nazimuddin (ctg based)
3. Aftab Ahmed (ctg based)
4. Faisal Hossain Decans (ctg based)
5. Chris Gayle (o/s)
6. Dirk Nannes (o/s)
7. Mithun Ali (wk) [originally from Sylhet but I would pick him at any cost]
8. Nafees Iqbal (ctg based)
9. Shane Warne (o/s) Captain and Coach/Mentor
10. Mosharraf Hossain Rubel (originally from Dhaka)
11. Rajat Bhatia or Andrew Symonds (o/s)

All the o/s players are kind of freelancers so they should be free during the tournament

... Go the Chittagong! :notworthy:

A mystic lavish green hilly land
With Saints, blue ocean and sand

To give this dampen world a fight.

Sad and departing ships are honking

To turn around the life like a swivel.

interstingly, I was just watching an interview at NTV by Lutfur Badol, the owner of Chittagong Cyclones.. per him, they said the cost of $21 million dollars was too much for them to bear and the ROI was simply not there in BD cricket. That's why they didnt bid this year. He fears that the people who are associated with BPL now does not have the experience with cricket and may leave if they soon find that there is actually no way they can get the $21m. in 6 years. And if BCB is not successful, BPL can also become a one year flash...He also fears that spot fixing can be an issue at this tourney...

I would like to call on the BCB to call on Game On Sports to add a Fenochacolak team as the 7th BPL franchise. Fenochacolak, you ask? Feni, Noakhali, Chandpur, Comilla, Lakshmipur!

Spin attack looks lethal with Murali and Azmal... but the pace attack is a little thin... although Bravo and taylor combo is capable of wrecking havoc...but it it is the absence of a third quality seamer that might hurt them if one of these guys get injured.
Overall a strong team along side Khulna in this competition

Not a bad squad to have. Batting is ok. Can score 200 on their day and can even get bundle for 50. Spin is their bet. Murali will be available for all the games so 99% sure he will be the highest wk take if not Shak. Pace attack is crap. If Taylor gets injured then Reza and Bravo Zia have to share the new ball. god bless.

one thing i didn't get it, why did they bought 5 spinners??? and hardly any seamer?

-Strong Top order batting
- Strong Middle order batting
-Strong spin attack
-OK pace attack

Really confused about Ajmal and Razzaq's status, it seems these two are playing for 2/3 teams. If my memory serves me right I'm pretty sure both of them were bought by Chittagong. But many of the team lists showing Ajmal playing for Dhaka and Razzaq for Rajshahi, BPL governing council needs to clear this up.

Good team none the less. Clearly we are not the strongest but our CTG team will do the same as the Rajsthan Royals of the 1st IPL.

My best XI (in batting order):

Tamim Iqbal (Icon player + VC)
Shamsur Rahman / Nasir Jamshed
Lendi Simmons / Shoaib Malik
Zahirul (wk)
D Bravo
Foisal Decans
Mahmudullah (C)
Farhad Reza
Ziaul Islam
Murali
Jerome Taylor

IMO this is the best XI. I prefer Mahmudullah than Tamim as captain, but most certainly TI will lead the squad...

Spin Bowling: Would love to pick Arafat Sunny or Enam jr but Decans and Mahmudullah (and maybe S Malik) can carry the spin department with the aid of the Spin guru Murlai.

Pace: Clearly the weakest part, but having said that - spin will be the key factor in this tournament. Also Jerome Taylor can destroy any batting line-up in his day. I believe he will be the fastest bowler in the tournement (unless Barishal picks Dirk Nannes). Zia lost his pace a bit but an asset in Lower order. Farhad Reza is also in good form.

Top Order: TI is the key player, no doubt. There are no top notch fast bowlers in other teams (No Dirk Nannes!!) - which is a big PLUS for Tamim's success. I prefer Shamsur as the second opener than pick a 5th O/S player (i.e Nasir Jamshed). And I will pick Lendi Simmons as number 3, his backup is K Cooper. Not sure why Shoaib Malik? His recent form is CRAP. If I have to plate the 5th O/S I will pick K Cooper or Nasir Jamshed instead of Malik. I will be missing two local players in top order: Nazim Uddin and Aftab.

Middle Oder: Strongest part of the team (along with Tamim factor). Experienced and steady with Bravo, Decans, Mahmudullah and my best pick Zahirul. Zahirul surely will catch some attraction in this tournament.

Lower Order: Will do great with Farhad and Zia's power hitting. Watch out for Zia - he can hit distance.

Go the CTG Kings!

It now seems that it was Kevon Cooper of Trinidad who was bought, and not Tom Cooper of the Netherlands...

If that's the case, then Cooper should be able to bolster the seam attack. He's a tricky medium-pacer who is also a hard-hitting lower-order batsman, to come to the crease when there are about four overs left in the innings.

"We have appointed Dean Jones as our technical director and Michael Bevan as our batting coach," said Samir Q Chowdhury, chief executive officer of Chittagong Kings.

The Australian duo will team up with former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mahmud, who has been appointed head coach of the franchise.

The inaugural edition of the BPL, which is based on the successful Indian Premier League model, will be held from February 10-28.

LOGO UNVEILED

The franchise also unveiled its team logo and introduced the team management to the press through a colorful ceremony at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Samir Q Chowdhury, coach Khaled Mahmud and team manager Nasir Ahmed were present on the occasion.

Samir Q Chowdhury said: "I hope the Chittagonians will hold the Chittagong Kings logo close to their hearts and support us throughout the tournament."

Nice job getting Bevan as the batting coach. Young players + Tamim can learn lot from him. He was the best ODI specialist in the 90s.

Its all about publicity. Thats why you see all teams were literally fighting to get Afridi and Gayle. They just want the name.

I would love to see Gordon and Viv in BPL. Presence of Viv will have supplementary allure for sure

At Prothom Alo or somewhere they were calling Chittagong team a team of 'Juddahporadis'... funny and irrelevant as it sounds, I couldnt fathom how the current government will even allow SQ Chowdhury's son to form a team. I have no doubt about his wealth as they have been rich for generations...its a matter of how they can justify the ROI for such enormous investment. Probably they can sell team jerseys or stickers to make up for the costs....

You don't get pal. They do not need to make money, they have enough. All they need is gain publicity among new generations.

After all, Foka and Saka are simply hated by their countrymen. So, their generation next needs make some positive impact in the society to erase that notorious legacy.

Well as Asif mentions, he is not Salauddin Qader Chowdhury's son.. He probably is Gias Kader Chowdhury's son. And I dont think there are any war crime allegations against Gias Q.Chowdhury (yet).

By the way, not that I lived there for too many years but if you are from Chittagong you would know that Raujan area is pretty much owned by the Salahuddin Kader Chowdhury and you cannot go against him but personally havent heard anything notorious about Gias Qader or Samir Q Chowdhur for that matter. They have been away from the limelights and minded their own business,,,

I think we're 1 batsman short. We need strong top order batsman and I don't think Jamshed or Simmons will do well in this format. I think Khulna have been wise buying Jayasuriya and Gibbs. Amonsgt the Bangladeshi batsman we have 3 in form players in Tamim, Riyad and Jahurul so hopefully we can put decent runs on the board. But I've got a feeling during the big matches that our batting and the lack of an x-factor type player that Dhaka Gladiators have is going to cost us. I don't think this team is capable of chasing 160+.

Dean Jones arrives Sunday

Staff Correspondent

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones will arrive on Sunday to take up the post of technical director at Chittagong Kings during the Bangladesh Premier League, said a press release on Friday.

Jones, a member of the Australian World Cup winning squad in 1987, was considered as one of the greatest one-day batsmen for his aggressive batting.

He will arrive on a Malaysian Airlines flight and will

be an integral part of Chittagong Kings in their build-up to the cash-rich tournament beginning on February 10.

Michael Bevan, another Australian, is also due to arrive shortly as he has been appointed as the batting coach of the Chittagong side.

Khaled Mahmud will be the head coach of the team that faces Duranto

Rajahahi on the opening day of the Bangladesh

Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Former Australian cricketer and batting coach of Chittagong Kings, Michael Bevan, will be focusing on how to boost the run-rate through singles and doubles as he thinks that would be the key to success in Twenty20 cricket.

Even though he arrived on Saturday night, Bevan did not miss the opportunity to watch his skipper Mahmudullah play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in a Dhaka Premier League match between Abahani and Gazi Tank Cricketers on Sunday.

‘You have to boost the scoring rate not only by hitting fours and sixes but also by the number of balls that you play for one and twos,’ Bevan told reporters at the SBNS.

‘The first thing is that you have to score a little bit quicker. I think in Twenty20 cricket you need a number of options,’ said Bevan. ‘You need to be flexible about how you are scoring runs. That’s Twenty20 cricket but it also depends on the condition what strokes you need to play,’ he added.

Looks like no Simmons and Malik. Good news about Malik. No one wants him. But cant say that about Simmons. Anyways there are lots of players up for grab. I would go for Nannes if possible

CK is not the only team going pink!
SThe theme may have been pink and fuzzy but make no mistake, the inaugural KFC Twenty20 Big Bash League is already brimming with competition and rivalry.

Big Red and Bing ... cheers mate.Source: FOX SPORTS
Sydney Sixers made their arrival on the scene of Australia's newest T20 innovation aboard a pink stretch Hummer that had taken the team through a tour of the city, announcing to cricket fans that something was changing in the landscape of their beloved sport.

The journey started at a familiar location, the lavish vehicle sidling into the SCG grounds where Brett Lee, Stephen O'Keefe and the rest of the Sixers stars were sipping pink champagne, of course.

Glitz and glamour ... Sixers style.Source: FOX SPORTS
It was a nice touch; a reminder that, despite the new colours and names, this is a team with a firm hold on tradition.

In front of the storied Members Stand, the Sixers toasted to a successful new era at what Dominic Thornely proudly calls "the home of cricket".

"The blokes we've got playing in this team all love playing cricket at the SCG and that's why they chose to play at the Sixers," Thornley said.

"And there are some big plans at the SCG, some big things that we haven't seen done in cricket before and it's really exciting."

New South Wales stalwart and Australia legend Brett Lee agreed.

"There will be a few touches added on for the spectacle of playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground so we expect big things from (our fans) and they expect big things from us," Lee added.

"Our aim at the Sixers is to put a showcase of entertainment together and we'd really like to put on a show, be the ones that can turn up the heat and enjoy it out there."

If the show they put on is anything like the good times that were flowing in the back of the Hummer then Sixers fans are in for a treat.

When captain Brad Haddin joined the party en route to the launch festivities, it is fair to say the Australia wicketkeeper was taken aback as he walked into a smoke-filled vehicle to be greeted by not just his bubbly-sipping teammates, but pom-pom shaking cheerleaders and the sounds of Lady Gaga blasting out of the speakers.

And so they made their arrival, fittingly, with "The Edge of Glory" as their soundtrack.

If there's something the Sixers want to impress, before a ball is bowled or a boundary is cleared, it is that these are the rockstars of the Big Bash League – pimped up and tricked out to reflect their status in a city that will, for the first time, be home to two rival franchises.

And have no doubt; the enmity is already brewing.

The Sixers' arrival at the Big Bash launch was put on hold with the roaring Harley-Davidsons that carried cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder to the red carpet, taking centre stage in what may well be the first sign of gamesmanship.

But when it comes to promoting a rockstar image, what better man than Lee to have at the helm of the fledgling franchise? A bona fide pop idol in India, Bing has already set about defining the image of his new team.

"We're actually magenta, that's our colour," Lee insisted.

"Although we did arrive in a pink Hummer, we're actually classed as the Magenta Men."

Only worry is Tamim's form. He needs to find himself as quickly as possible and live up to his big name. On the contrary, MUllah Riyad was a pleasant surprise. Never knew he could be that agressive. Jahirul was a pure joke. I hope it was just the pressure of trying to live upto his big price tag from the very start and he bounces back strongly.

Didn't you see his interview with Danny Morisson? He said he was injured and might not play today's game as well. They'll decide after the fitness test. If he doesn't pass, he'll be fit in a couple of days. He looked upbeat in general. I don't think there's any fall out with management. I think his injury is genuine.

Before this competition, I was thinking that Khulna and Dhaka would be the best teams but here we are at the half way mark and their the best team. What's great about them is how good the local players have been for them and also the international players are relatively low key. Once Tamim comes back and if he can hit some big scores, they could be really tough to beat.

I wonder who the team management will drop when Tamim returns. Everyone is playing well except Murali. Jahurul is automatic choice because he is the only keeper we have.

My lineup:

1. Tamim
2. Jamshed
3. Jahurul
4. Roy
5. Riyad
6. Ziaur
7. Bravo
8. Reza
9. Cooper
10. Sunny

hmmm, Some very interesting news :D

Bangladesh Premier League franchise Chittagong Kings have reportedly sacked their technical director Dean Jones after his alleged fall out with team’s icon player Tamim Iqbal, sources said on Sunday.

Jones was involved in a bust-up with Tamim during a pre-match warm up earlier in the tournament, which, media reports said, is partly responsible for Tamim’s pro

longed stay on the bench.

Kings officials, however, denied the sacking of Jones claiming that they had an agreement with him only until February 21.

‘Jones’ contract expires on February 21 as he has a commitment in India. Any report about his dismissal is untrue,’ said a team spokesman.

Meanwhile, Jones was fined Tk 15,000 by match referee Mike Procter after their match against Duronto at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday.

He was handed out the fine for entering the field of play during their strategic time-out in violation of the law.

The ICC law does not allow any officials to enter the field during the course of play or even when a team calls a time-out, other than the players and substitute fielders.

Ok, why Riyad is always so clueless about his team??? I've have been noticing for the last 2 matches that whenever he was asked what are the changes they've made he couldn't say anything. Always fumbling, forgot the name of his team mates:smh:. That just says he is not as involved with the team selection. What I've noticed that most of the team management is not involving their captains in any kind of decission making or having faith in their captains. We've seen Sylhet and Barishal already changed their captain. Riyad seems like just following the order. Only Shak and Mushy has control over their team !! About Mash not sure. Anyways my point is, it's not a good sign. The team management should have faith in their captains.

It'd be sad if Dean Jones has indeed been sacked for not getting along with Tamim. Team unity is more important than star players. And Chittagong were top of the table without the help of Tamim. Bhai let me say the first person to get sacked from any team is the coach. Coaches come and go but players have the luxury of being around long after any coach has gone. Just see what's happened to Dean Jones with Chittagong Kings.
Team officials' statements are no better. They ruled Tamim out of the tournament only for him to play the very next day. Can't guarantee anything unless it comes directly from the mouth of the man himself, Dean Jones. And there is no smoke without fire.

Good to see they got Taylor. Time to bench Jahurul. He was a real disappointment in the BPL. His approach is completely wrong and didn't expect that from him as I thought he was a smart batsman. 1 thing I like abt CTG is that they arent over dependant on their foreigners... enamul, sunny, reza and even riad gets to bowl through their overs and in the batting department the local batsman are in good position, whilst most of khulna's top order and middle order batsman are foreigners..

In addition to that, he's too scared to bowl most of the times. He would come in to the attack only when the situation is favourable. He doesn't back himself up as a bowler.
With Brendon Taylor coming into the side from the next time, hopefully the batting line up will get their act together.

and some people have been saying Tamim is a selfish player.. right.. when did they see Tamim playing a slow knock just to boost his average???

to be honest, ive seen it once against Australia in 2011. Shakib was doing the same

Tamim might not seem a team player, nor does Gayle or Pollard. But they play their game and however they play it, it doesnt matter because they can win you the game.

But doing a bit batting practice in an important match thinking that it wont hurt because your team has got a good start just like Taylor is called selfishness. Your goal is not to cement your place in the team, its to win matches. Thats where heroes are made.

The simple equation for Chittagong Kings to qualify.

In Sylhet vs Khulna

If for example Khulna bat first and score 120 and Sylhet gets to the target before 15.3 overs Khulna will have NRR of 0.07 which is <<< 0.078 of Chittagong Kings.

Basically whatever Khulna scores batting first Sylhet will have to get them before 15.3 overs

Tamim and Shakib played it that way because they/our team were traumatized by their 58 and 71 performances during the WC11. I thought they did it to get their self-confidence back.

I think Tamim didn't win us a game yet...(hmm..I might be wrong though)

154 against Zimbabwe. The highest by any Bangladeshi in an ODI.

Also in test he may not have won us any game, but his innings saved our faces in challenging conditions where many people questioned Bangladesh's right to play with the big boys.

Yeah that's what I thought as well .. As far as I remember Australia already had posted more than 300 runs and BD started to lose early wickets while chasing.. So Tamim and Shakib were playing a face saving match that day...

Who actually has won us a game other than Ash and Shak :( ... Mushy did it once in a T20.. So we actually don't have solid match winners... That's the reason we always lose :(

I know this might sound a bit weird, but on this day what are the players doing. They might not be practicing and even if they do they wont be serious. Perhaps watch the matches

And it hurts, as a CTG fan, not to see ur favourite player in the team play despite your other players are playing crap

I'm going to say something a little controversial here, as much as I like Tamim (a great test player and a very good ODI player) he's not exactly set the world alight in T20 cricket. Nonetheless, I think we'd all love to see him play for CTG.

So far, CTG have been my favourite team in this tournament (though i like Mashrafe's Dhaka too). Some real good batting and as someone else said a side where the locals contribute as much as the overseas players.

I reckon they could win the BPL this year...

I dont think CTG can blame themselves, they did nothing

Its stupid BCB that has done it wrong.

But If CTG management forced BCB to make the decision, then its different

I was joking around about the guy(abu2abu) who posted before you...the one who said, Chittagong were a contender to win the competition - whereas until a couple of hours ago, we ALL thought Chittagong were knocked out of the comp.

Even if CK wins the championship, there'll be an asterisk next to it. Barisal should've played in the semi.

Even as a CTG fan I think BBs deserved to qualify ahead of CTG

But then again, whateve happens happens for the good and Im sure that next year BBs will have Gayle in the whole tournament and they will bring the stadium on fire(HOPEFULLY NOT LITERALLY AFTER THE CONTROVERSY)
