HARARE, March 10 (Reuters) - Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore said his team's eight-run win over Zimbabwe in their one-day international on Wednesday was no fluke.
Bangladesh ended a five-year drought after totalling 238 for seven and then restricting Zimbabwe to 230 for nine. It was only their fourth victory in 83 one-day internationals.
"This wasn't just a flash in the pan, they fought back like tigers to win this match," Whatmore told Reuters.
"The team is used to being behind...under pressure and trying to fight their way back into the game. In this match they got on top and they were driving the game."
He added: "It's been a long time, particularly for the public of Bangladesh and the team. I've been on board since June and that is long in itself and a lot of the players have been around for a lot longer than that."
Whatmore said: "We got a total that was defendable but also attainable by the opposition and we fought back very hard to win."
Whatmore, a former Australian international, was sacked by Sri Lanka just under a year ago. He had previously guided Sri Lanka to their 1996 World Cup victory.
