Calcutta: Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on his spinners, Shakib-al Hasan and Sunil Narine, for the Kolkata Knight Riders’ five-wicket victory at the Eden on Friday.

“The Rajasthan Royals started off well… But the way our spinners Shakib and Narine bowled was top class… They got us back in the game… Especially, when Shakib took two wickets in an over, it turned the game around in our favour,” said the Knights’ captain.

“Later, in the innings, Shakib also played a crucial knock with the bat… There were very useful contributions from Jacques Kallis, Manvinder Bisla and Manoj Tiwary too… They kept the scoreboard ticking and hit the occasional boundaries.”

Gambhir said he always remained confident of the victory. “We always knew that this is a wicket where a score of around 140-145 would be difficult to chase. But then we have the firepower in our batting and a good amount of experience as well.”

Shakib was elated at his maiden Man of the Match award in the IPL.

“Yes this is my first Man of the Match award… Hope there are many more to come.”

The left-arm spinner said he enjoyed bowling and batting on this wicket. “I knew if we put a partnership together, winning wouldn’t be a problem. We’ve seven-eight guys in the team, who are matchwinners. We knew our gameplan and stuck to that.”

Samuels could be dropped. His batting hasn't been good and that should be taken in to account since he's a batsman 1st. They already have Matthews, Smith, and Ryder who can bowl. Having Tamim opening with Ryder could be a dangerous opening pair.

I wouldn't lose hope. Samuels hasn't played very well. And don't see the need to have 4 foreign allrounders. Smith, Matthews, and Ryder can all bowl. Plus Samuels at his best will just give you a 40 ball 40. Pune also has issues with their top order. So Tamim might get a look.

Shakib didn't do that bad to be honest, he can't get everyday handful wickets. The pitch was more suitable for Narine or Mendis type bowlers or lets say slow medium pacers..Look at even Bhatiya he got 2wkts for 14 runs. So the pitch was not totall for spinners, players like Narine, Mendis I consider them as slow medium pacers..

I don't think Shakib will do something like that.. He has never done that in IPL.. he didn't stay not out even when there was only 1 over left.. his T20 batting worries me :( .. yeah it has to do with his batting position but still I would prefer him to rotate the strike more than slogging./..
