Former national skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul will be approached by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to take the role of the head coach of the BCB National Academy, said a top official on Tuesday.

Aminul is currently working as the development officer of the Asian Cricket Council in Malaysia and is all set to receive the proposal soon as the Academy is currently running without a head coach since October 2011.

‘We will approach Aminul for a three year contract for the post of the head coach of the Academy,’ AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters on Tuesday.

‘We need someone immediately and he would be the appropriate choice as he had developed his cricketing knowledge by working with the ACC,’ said Kamal.
Earlier, Australian Ross Turner left the position in October 2011 due to health reasons after joining in April on the same year.

This is the best move by BCB in recent times. Bulbul is one of the finest we have ever produced. We need his expertise badly.

If he accepts the terms offered to him....do we know what's being offered?? BCB doesn't have the history of offering a good package to a local coach...won't be bad if he joins the academy.....IMO

Could go either way. He's had some decent experience working for the ACC in China, Malaysia, etc., so he's obviously done some development work at the ground level, but the main academy of a Test playing nation is a whole new ball game. All the best to him.

But when the main academy of test nation hardly has a coach it should work better.

Bulbul would be a great choice. What's needed at the academy level is continuity and stability. We've had a terrible time hanging on to foreign coaches outside the national team setup. They come with multi-year contracts and depart after six months. That helps no one, except for the coach who makes out like a bandit (tax-free, US-dollar salary).

I don't think foreign coaches can impart significantly more cricketing wisdom than someone like Bulbul. And even if they can, the fact that they leave after such short stints more than offsets these benefits.

I really hope Bulbul takes the offer. It's about time we start utilizing our ex players. If it not Bulbul I would have no problem Pilot taking over the Academy.

I was lucky enough to meet him one day in Sri Lanka where he had come for a coaching training program. He said it is his dream to become the head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team one day. I am thrilled BCB are trying to get him for an academy role, and hopefully it will pave the path for bigger things one day.

Really admire the guy. Very ambitious, focuses on hard work. Probably one of the best batsman our country ever produced.

Absolutely correct. Time to tap into our cricket legends. Given the plethora of left arm spinners, Rafique is a must have back room staff plus academy coach

ya agree. I'm also a bit skeptical about his technical ability to handle the job. Could have been beter if he would start with an age group. His job is china didn't have anything to do with the technical aspects, he was more of an ambassador of cricket to popularize the game in china, than to teach them serious technical matters. I would prefer him to start with an age group and then be gradually promote him upwards if he was doing a decent job. Academy needs a very technical person ... To make things easy for the national team coach.

He ll probably have specialist coaches working under him. Ross Turner and Ruwan Kalpage were heading our academy before. Do you think these guys had better technical ability?

Btw did he accept the role? Any news on that?
