Well after his first year at Worcestershire he told in an interview he would have been much happier if he was playing near London as most of the people he knows are in London.

ESSEX

Overseas player: Alviro Petersen (South Africa, start of season until mid-June); James Franklin (New Zealand, for Twenty20)

Possible signings: Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor says he hopes to join Essex for Twenty20, but the county are yet to comment.

Other news: Australia international Peter Siddle had signed to play Twenty20 for Essex but was forced to pull out after he picked up an injury on Australia's tour of the West Indies. Essex have scrapped the Southend Festival for 2012, with matches being switched to their Chelmsford headquarters.

In county circuit you are allowed to sign maximum 4 overseas player through out the season.

Only one overseas player per match can participate in County matches (First Class).

Only one overseas player per match can participate in CB40 (One day tournament)

However in Friends Provident T-20 Two overseas players per match can participate.

Shakib Al Hasan, ranked number one allrounder in both ICC’s ODI and Test rankings, is all set to play for an English county outfit this season.

Shakib’s agent confirmed on Saturday that the allrounder is in talks with the county championship division two side Essex.

Essex, relegated to division two back in 2010, is currently fourth in the points table.

Shakib has primarily been offered a three-month contract. However, the allrounder, currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders, has asked for a curtailed schedule of one and a half months.

“Shakib has been playing non-stop for the last two seasons, and it is normal to feel stressed out at this point. Though he is happy with the county prospect, he has asked for a curtailed schedule,” said his agent.

The 24-old-allrounder played two seasons for Worcestershire county back in 2010, 2011 and played out a pivotal role in their promotion to the first division in 2010.

Essex-er jei obostha, I guess they need him bad!

Essex: 54/6 in 27 Overs.

As Shakib said in an interview, in the IPL the players travel so much from different city to city so they don't have that much practice time. County cricket on the other hand has a lot more gaps in their schedule and therefore the players have time to practice and fine tune their techniques with some top quality coaches. I know Shakib wants rest but he should really take advantage and play. It would be great if he could play in the FC's.

It would also be great if Tamim could get a county club. He has the credentials and also needs the practice.

And why is that? He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He's an established star and everyone in IPL knows it well....it's not his fault that KKR management is having brain farts and not giving him enough matches...

There is no doubt about Shakib's ability but playing more First Class matches makes you better player. Shakib is one of the best spinner but he has under achieved with his bat for his standard and that's where he can improve more by playing more FC matches. I think Shakib can bat longer and score big hundreds.

Ian you were a former coach and player of essex, did you play with or coached law when he was with essex?

Even though there is only 7 years between me and Stuart, our careers never overlapped. I retired from FC cricket at 27 and he would just have been starting out in Australia at that time.

When Stuart did come to Essex in 1996, I was commentating for BBC Essex covering the matches, and interviewed him a few times.

Stuart left for Lancashire in 2002 after he should have been given the captaincy at Essex but wasn't. Essex had a policy of not appointing an overseas player as captain of their county. Lancs did appoint Stuart captain and he went on to finish his playing career with them in 2008.

I was coach at Essex between 2004-2007 when he would have played against Essex for Lancashire.

I have made my recommendations to Essex. I am guessing it will be down to all parties to work something out if there is a will to do so. He would certainly be a good asset to have at Chelmsford where the pitches will likely be flat and turn later in the season.

How long before Essex announces the capture of Shakib? He said 2-4 days, and it's well past that now.

Screw KKR, at least he'll get proper chances at Essex.

I dont think he will get a chance for a while as alviro peterson is in the squad. Alviro will probably be playing most of the matches until the SA vs ENG series starts. Then we can see shakib in action cuz James Franklin is utter crap lol

^ I'm sorry, who is this Alviro Peterson you speak off? Some wannabe KP? pfft.. Shakib > "Peterson."

Alviro will join South African squad before the test match. We won't see Saffers allowing him to stay with Essex after the team arrives in UK as they will play few practice match. As for James Franklin he only signed T-20 contract and Essex or any other county team can field 2 overseas players in domestic T-20 comp.

If BD is to tour Zim for the tri nation T20 (as per the news) when will Shakib go for county? Also they might go for the euro tour from there...

Since those are not official matches, I think Shakib should be allowed to play in county instead.

Agreed with Habib. This will give someone else chance to practice.

Well, if sakib plays in county instead, it will free up chance for someone else! and at the same time sakib is being exposed to better quality cricket, two birds killed with 1 stone :D

that is considering everything goes accordingly

Essex close in on Twenty20 Cup replacement

Essex are closing in on signing a replacement overseas player for this season's Twenty20 Cup.
The Eagles initially signed Australian Peter Siddle, who has since been ruled out through injury.
Coach Paul Grayson was tight-lipped on speculation that Bangladeshi Shakib Al Hasan was the target.

"I can't give you any names. We've identified a player we'd like to bring to the club, we need to get this person in very quickly," he told BBC Essex .

"The visa and work permits need to be sorted out. He's a very good cricketer."
All-rounder Shakib, 25, is currently playing in the Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders and featured for Worcestershire in the Twenty20 competition last season.

I wont mind him getting a chance in T20s. I mean at the end of the day he has to work less, and its T20 where he is still lacking. And with the t20 world cup coming Id rather have him being involved in T20s.

The reason why Im bringing this point out is because if you have a weakness in an area, you try to work on it. Sakib is a brilliant cricketer in ODI and T20, but is yet to establish himself in T20s. So I wish he also concentrate on T20s. I know FC may be good for him but he is a seasoned player. Its the other mediocre players in the team who really need to get involved in longer versions more often

Essex's T-20 is getting sold fast. They are expecting complete sell out for all 5 home matches.

There is no confirmation about Shakib's signing for them. Don't know what to do.

Yeah that's when there was no matches confirmed for BD.. But now with some international matches here and there and with the possibility of getting selected for SLPL he might change his decision ...on top of that he did(still does) want some time of his own after the IPL..
