View Full Version : F1 2012 Season

May 23, 2012, 07:30 AM

There usually used to be a thread for F1 almost every season. Noticed no one has opened one for this season so far, took the opportunity to do so before the Monaco GP this weekend.

So far, we've got five different winners for the five races that have been held so far. Seems to be the most open season..

Hamilton could've done better with his season, but due to certain strategy mistakes from the McLaren and certain violations of rules during qualifying he missed out on a lot of points..

The Mercedes team looks to have made massive improvement from the previous season, with both Rosberg & Schumi putting in decent performances.

Lotus Renault with Kimi & Grosjean seems impressive with Kimi putting all his experience into it after an absence of 2 years in F1.

Ferrari is putting in mixed performances with Massa struggling to put even decent laps during qualifying and getting a lot of criticism.

Redbull drivers haven't got off to a great start to the season, struggling with the front wings and their machine looks a lot off the pace than their previous season. Vettel is punching though, but the team leads the constructors championship.

Grandprix's so far:
1. Australian GP - Button, Vettel, Hamilton
2. Malaysian GP - Alonso, Perez, Hamilton
3. Chinese GP - Rosberg, Button, Hamilton
4. Bahrain GP - Vettel, Raikkonen, Grosjean
5. Spanish GP - Maldonado, Alonso, Raikkonen

1. Sebastian Vettel - 61
2. Fernando Alonso - 61
3. Lewis Hamilton - 53
4. Kimi Räikkönen - 49
5. Mark Webber - 48
6. Jenson Button - 45
7. Nico Rosberg - 41
8. Romain Grosjean - 35
9. Pastor Maldonado - 29
10. Sergio Perez - 22

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg the fastest in Q1.

May 26, 2012, 07:44 AM
Vettel on radio to the crew: "My car is jumping like a rabbit" :floor:

May 26, 2012, 07:51 AM
Massa the quickest in Q2. Button can't make it to Q3. Who'd have thunk?

May 26, 2012, 08:10 AM
Mad mad Q3. Schumacher takes pole but he already got a 5 grid place penalty, so starts 6th

May 26, 2012, 08:14 AM

Go Webber go... Hoping him to win it, although Mark is 1 of the least lucky driver all time.
History of Monaco says except Massa, every all others managed finish win from pole position.

6 different drivers winner from 6 races will be exciting season.

May 27, 2012, 04:24 AM
For some reason, I'm more excited about the Monaco GP than the IPL final.

For some reason, I'm more excited about the Monaco GP than the IPL final.

As always in Monaco, pole position is particularly important on the Monaco circuit as the track is so narrow and winding, making overtaking opportunities few and far between. And the walls are so close that you cannot afford to make any mistakes or you will be in the barrier and your race will be over. On the other hand, tyre degradation is usually quite low in Monaco, and this year Pirelli's decision to bring the two softest tyres the 'soft' and 'super-soft' will make things much more challenging for the teams. Webber needs a clear start. Rosberg also starts the race with two sets of new super soft tyres. McLaren might actually be one of the better cars with a heavier tank and under race conditions. Vettel who currently sits down the grid but has an option to start on the harder tyre. It should be a thrilling race.

May 27, 2012, 06:44 AM
I have a feeling either Webber or Rosberg will win this.

May 27, 2012, 07:14 AM
Well a crash in the first half of the first lap is always interesting.

May 27, 2012, 07:21 AM
Probable rain forecast in 15 laps time

May 27, 2012, 08:50 AM
What a race. Congrats Webber. Impressed with Vettel's performance!

May 27, 2012, 09:25 AM
Woo hoo .. Webber wins..:applause:

May 29, 2012, 12:55 AM

June 10, 2012, 01:38 PM
Wish Alonso finishes on the podium.. And Kimi too

June 10, 2012, 02:35 PM
Sad one strategy hasn't worked for Alonso. From 1st to 5th in no time.

June 10, 2012, 02:37 PM
Lewis wins. 7 different wins in 7 grand prix.

June 10, 2012, 03:21 PM
Amizing Canadian race & 7 winner in 7 race! Lots of passing also. Despite early pit flip gain by Alonso, Hamilton was constantly ruling the circuit with high speed, with result fooling terrible pit strategy by serially both redbull, rosberg and alonso. Lotus seems serious contender this year as well, hoping Kimi/Grosjean do better in next race.

June 11, 2012, 03:02 AM
Can't stand Hamilton.

June 24, 2012, 01:22 PM
What a win by the local Alonso from Ferrari. And a smart hard tyre 1 stop strategy by Schumecher & Webber.
Very exciting Valencia race. And very unpredictable. The best race of the season so far.

June 25, 2012, 10:02 AM
Yep, that was an exciting race . And the celebrations from Alonso, wow!

July 6, 2012, 09:25 AM
Lotus F1 has announced that it will be joining forces with The Dark Knight Rises at this weekend's British Grand Prix, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's movie trilogy. As a result, the cars, driver helmets and overalls of Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean will feature the film's logo, along with exposure inside the outfit's garage.
Will love to see the batman tank roaming in Silverstone circuit burning tyres. :)

July 6, 2012, 10:01 AM
Wow didn't know that. Didn't follow practice.

July 7, 2012, 06:51 AM
Its raining, YAYY!

July 7, 2012, 06:54 AM
Okay the circuit is too wet looking at the FP3 highlights!

July 7, 2012, 07:08 AM
Hope Massa is this fast during Q2 & Q3

July 7, 2012, 07:53 AM
Rains for atleast an hour. Qualifications has been red flagged atm.

July 7, 2012, 09:40 AM
Alonso on pole

July 7, 2012, 10:11 AM
Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher three most experienced drivers at top three to start; this race should be interesting with this hoodoo weather condition in Silverstone tomorrow.

July 7, 2012, 10:37 AM
YAYY Alonso :)

But expect MSC to play the race of his comeback. Just got a hunch.

July 8, 2012, 08:06 AM
Alonso is driving like a champion. Meanwhile Kobayashi has driven over his crew mates in the pit!

July 8, 2012, 08:25 AM
Webber has overtaken Alonso. Hope he hangs on to P2..

July 8, 2012, 08:30 AM
Webber, Alonso, Vettel, Massa, Kimi..

July 8, 2012, 09:34 AM
Very very exciting race indeed. A supereb #1 result for the Ausie there to hang in there with Alonso whole race and clean cross him at depth of race. Tyre function unpredictability gives this year's F1 championship keeps in even steven, but for constructors race Lutus just catapult McLaren there today with speed. They are very consistant and deservs GP title(s).

July 8, 2012, 09:55 AM
McLaren

July 21, 2012, 09:02 AM
Hockenheim is back. I like this circuit even after renovations (with controversially big reduce the length), it still feature lot of straight zones where drag races are held now. In video games, racing enthusiasts can yet taste the previous circuit race with awesome ultimate full speed of long tree line view drags. Another reason Ike this, new grand stands are designed by Mercedez in a way to have a good visibility for fans and tv viewers with maximum numbers of angels (close shots to eagle-eye views).

Well the qualification today was all about the Germans (3 out of top 4), and tomorrows race will feature three world champions starting in top three places:- Alonso, Vettel & Schumacher. This must be exciting.

July 21, 2012, 09:18 AM
I missed Q3 but was glad to see that Alonso snatched the pole.

Actually excited to see how Vettel will tackle Alonso tomorrow. And hope MSC puts up more than a fight.

July 22, 2012, 12:27 PM
1. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
2. Jenson Button (McLaren)
3. Kimi Räikkönen (Lotus)

Very well composed dominating pole to podium result by Alonso with almost no struggle here. Race was eventful though for unusual way the grid starts & ends. So no German in top three; A full race battle by Button against the German drivers with success came back to championship point table while having dissapointing season so far. Bad luck for Redbull; 5 place penulty makes 3rd place qualified Weber had to start from 8 and a controversially passed by lapped-behind McLaren's Hamilton holding Vettel, later after-race penalty demotes him for crossing 2nd placed slow paced Button at final lap from outside sideline. Exchanged some cold conversation with alligatiom & defence by both pi$$ed off drivers at each other entering prize ceremony makes it eventful.
F1 really getting heated among the drivers at mid season. :)

July 23, 2012, 03:10 AM
So glad Kimi got promoted to third, that dude is working his socks off post the comeback

July 23, 2012, 05:32 AM
I also thought Lotus would ve got a win before mid season, they got really fast cars and highly experienced side. Yeah offcorse naughty boy Kimi is consistant in tops of point table deserves at least one GP victory this year. So far Alonso & Kimi is most consistant in gaining points despite early development struggle by engineering team.

July 28, 2012, 08:29 AM
Hamilton, Grosjean, Vettel, Button, Kimi, Alonso, Massa, Maldonado, Senna, Hulkenburg.

Expected. Lewis has been fast through out the weekend. Good to see the Lotus up there!

July 29, 2012, 09:23 AM
L Hamilton's Hungarian GP victory put McLaren Lotus Ferrari all close together at 2nd place for constrator's champinship. Really Lotus doing much better as season maturing. Kimi & Grosjean at #2 & #3 starts showing dominance now. I'm dissapointed with Redbull's Webber's pit performance being 2nd in driver's championship, although a tricky pit by Vettel kept push down Alonso at depth of race for 4th place.

September 1, 2012, 10:47 AM
Button, Kobayashi, Maldonado.

Finally F1 returns after a month break!

September 2, 2012, 09:09 AM
Button Vettel Kimi. Grosjean caused a huge collision in the first corner that took out Hamilton and Alonso

September 9, 2012, 06:33 AM
Hope Massa can do something significant today.

September 9, 2012, 09:06 AM
Hamilton, Perez, Alonso, Massa, Kimi.

Good race.

September 22, 2012, 08:26 PM
The Singapore Grand Prix- F1 Racing under flodlight is back.

Qualification result: Hamilton grabs the pole making behind Maldonado & Vettel.

September 23, 2012, 02:28 AM
McLaren grabs 4th consecutive pole, first time since Mika Hakkinen in 1999!

Hamilton is on fire. But I think Vettel will come good.

Also looking forward to Maldonado-Hamilton duel.

September 23, 2012, 02:31 AM
McLaren is simply quicker than everyone else out there atm...

September 25, 2012, 12:01 AM
ekbar jodi live ef-huan dekte petam...jibon sharthyok hoye jeto...boss.. o boss! singaporey gechen naki F1 dekte? :D

September 28, 2012, 04:04 AM

He will leave McLaren at the end of the season...Schumacher will leave Mercedes to make room - the new No.2 at McLaren will be Sergio Perez

September 28, 2012, 07:30 AM
Meanwhile, Schumacher's management were seen to be in "long" talks with Sauber, though nothing is confirmed yet.

October 6, 2012, 11:47 PM
Backing RedBull for a 1-2 finish

October 7, 2012, 02:35 AM
Vettel, Massa, Kobayashi.

Championship lead blown wide apart. Vettel just 4 points behind Alonso, who btw crashed out in Turn 1.

Great result for the local hero, Kobayashi. Held off Button in the final laps.

October 13, 2012, 01:09 AM
Korean GP qualifications:

Webber, Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, Kimi, Massa

October 14, 2012, 02:55 AM
Vettel. Webber. Alonso.

Vettel takes the championship lead from Alonso.

October 14, 2012, 03:10 PM
Backing Hamilton to finish top 3... of course as long as he doesn't do anything too reckless

October 27, 2012, 04:34 AM
Vettel. Webber. Hamilton. Button. Alonso. Massa. Kimi. Perez. Maldonado. Rosberg.

Bit of a blow to Alonso ahead of the Indian GP race tomorrow!

October 28, 2012, 08:12 AM
Great drive by Vettel and Alonso. Webber held off for the third spot after a later surge by Hamilton. Meanwhile, Massa has yet another decent outing which ensured a year at least at the Scuderia Ferrari.

Vettel builds on the lead as expected, but Alonso's second position finish means that Vettel will only have the Spaniard to compete with for the title with three GP's to go. Exciting.

November 3, 2012, 02:49 PM
Vettel to start from back of the grid after not having enough fuel post the qualification. Great news that for Mr. Alonso.

Hamilton seemed to be very quick. Favorite to win the GP probably.

November 4, 2012, 10:13 AM
What a brilliant GP. Great driving from Kimi, Alonso and Vettel.

November 17, 2012, 08:20 PM
Austin GP qualifications:

Vettel, Hamilton, Webber, Grosjean, Kimi, MSC, Massa, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Maldonado

Sad day for Ferrari Scuderia and Alonso. Lotus Renault putting in strong performances towards the end of the season.

Vettel favorite to win the GP and championship.

November 19, 2012, 05:00 AM
Hamilton. Vettel. Alonso.

Ferrari have done well in this GP. Vettel leads Alonso by 13 and we are off to Brazil. YES! :)

November 19, 2012, 10:46 AM
Hamilton congratulations man my favourite driver shame though he's leaving McLaren and taking a risk with Mercedes .

November 24, 2012, 12:54 PM
Brazilian GP Qualifying

Hamilton, Button, Webber, Vettel, Massa, Maldonado, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Kimi, Rosberg

November 25, 2012, 12:48 PM
Congratulations Vettel on winning the third consecutive championship. Well fought, Alonso! Just 3 points.

Brilliant as always, Interlagos!

November 25, 2012, 12:55 PM
1) BUT, 2) ALO, 3) MAS, 4) WEB, 5) HUL, 6) VET, 7) MSC, 8) VER, 9) KOB, 10) RAI.

Youngest triple world champion. But heartbreak for Alonso who had a brilliant season with that mediocre Scuderia Ferrari.

Third time's the charm

November 25, 2012

There have been tears, tantrums and tribulations along the way, but in Brazil Sebastian Vettel finally made it three out of three. Looking back at the record books in 20 years time, young F1 fans may be led to believe that Vettel had it all his own way in the early part of this decade, and while that was true in 2011, it couldn't be further from the truth this year.

For the first time since 2009 Vettel did not start the season with the best car and it took Red Bull 14 rounds to truly nail the performance of the RB8 around the time of Singapore. When it got it right, Vettel duly won four races on the trot, a feat unimaginable earlier in the season and the key to his title success. But it is the period before that that is most telling; the period when Vettel didn't have the best car.

The story starts before pre-season testing when technical directives further limited the team's use of exhaust gases and called for more strenuous tests of flexibility for the front wing. The directives came relatively late and had a significant effect on the burgeoning RB8 in Milton Keynes. The car that turned up to pre-season testing, therefore, was not exactly the car Adrian Newey had in mind when he first laid pen to paper and was, in essence, a compromise. Moreover, it was a big departure from the RB7, which had been based around the team's expertise in exhaust blowing, and had different driving characteristics.

The youngest triple world champions not his fan but that's something you can easily be proud off! Can't believe Alonso missed out yet again and Hamilton my favourite driver is leaving McLaren which is a big mistake!
