anyone got views on the squad for this series?

My XI would be

Tamim
Anamul
Junaid
Mushy
Shakib
Nasir
Mahmudullah (only ebcause he's vice captain and i cant see many other alternatives)
Mashrafee
Nazmul
Razzak
Elias Sunny

I think they should drop Shakib if these matches are just practice matches. So Shak can play T20 in England if he get good deal from county team.

Nah i think they should play shak. I see your point but this series is only a few days, and against one very strong opposition and one equally as good opposition as us. That's good mathc practice bro. Personally, i think its better than playing county. In county he will get maybe one/ two games in 5 days, in this series he will play like 4 games in 5 days. More match practice.

It's not official probably because SA wants to try out their entire squad. So most likely there will be 2 extra players on the game. So they can substitue players and try out other batsmans and bowlers. They did this in warm up games before world cup 2007. I remember when we beat NZ in 2007 in a warm up game, there was 13 players on the playing squad.

Wait, why wouldn't these matches be official T20I matches?

Several reasons I think:

- Cost. One does not need all the paraphernalia and cameras etc for an official T20I
- Allows more flexibility in team selection - the goal is preparing for the World T20 and so they might want to have 13 men teams.

But if this series is broadcasted on tv, then the broadcaster has to bear the cost anyway including commies.

Rather i think, Zim board could have earned $$$ from sponsors and media partners if it was official series.

That's still a good team. Their pace bowling department is still strong with Tsotsobe, Parnell, and De Lange. The batting also has good batsmen like Levi, Amla, Du Plessis, Ingram and Duminy. We should still be able to give a good fight to them. Looking forward to it. We should name our team soon as well.

Don't think Parnell & Tsotsobe will get into the XI, they will go for three pacers in Morne, Steyn & De Lange.

Morne and Steyn will bring their A game in T20 world cup, they don't need to practice. Parnel, De lange and Tsobe will get games in this tpurnament. I think SA will be more interested in using Tahir and Peterson and van der. Remember the world up is in srilanka.

IPL does not merit a players quality and talent!

De Lange won't play due to better players in South Africa bowling Department Already.

But he has the potential of being a excellent player.

Ajfar
June 2, 2012, 09:48 AM
^ exactly since when did IPL performances become the sole decider of the quality of a player. Plus how many games did he exactly play? De Lange was killing it last year when he played for SA, than Philander came in and the rest is history. De Lange is young he's got time to grow. Like MSM bhai said De Lange probably won't make the T20 squad but not because he is crap but because SA already have enough quality fast bowlers in their line up.

IPL is a good indicator of a player's T20 form. It has nothing to do with his class or anything. He bowled crap in IPL, so it's highly unlikely that he would be picked over good T20 players like Tsotsobe, Morkel and Steyn etc. (who were top notch in IPL, mostly)

DISAPPOINTING NEWS !

What is ironic about this series is that it’s going to be an unofficial one with no recognition from the ICC! Hence the matches will all be unofficial Twenty20 affairs which will not be recorded in the International Statistics of the players and the teams! Another pity of this series is that there will be no broadcast of the matches on any of the TV Channels! Perhaps, the Series could well be played without a TV or a Third Umpire as well. This Series is more of a warm-up for the three teams prior to the upcoming T20 World Cup 2012 in Sri Lanka.

I'd say the games will have Twenty20 status, but not T20I status. Cricinfo will definitely cover it no matter what status it has. Hopefully Neo show it on TV but I haven't heard anything about that. It's a pity about the T20I because right now Bangladesh don't even have a ranking because they haven't played enough games.

Before BD joined in to make it a tri-series, the 5 T20 were not going to be broadcast. However, according to Dean du Plessis(the visually impaired commie), BD's inclusion means there just might be a chance of live TV coverage even though ZC are struggling financially. So, let's hope Dean's right and we get live TV coverage.

Zimbabwe tri-series to be televised
Firdose Moonda
June 8, 2012
The unofficial Twenty20 tri-series between Zimbabwe, South Africa and Bangladesh in Harare this month will be broadcast on television, even though it was initially thought the series would not be televised.

South African broadcaster SuperSport confirmed they would screen the seven-match event live, as part of their commitment to both Cricket south Africa (CSA) and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). The rights have also been sold to Bangladesh television.

"We are proud partners and want to showcase the talents of youngsters like Chris Morris, Colin Ingram and Richard Levi," Brandon Foot, head of acquisitions and legal for SuperSport, said. "With South Africa's tour of England also due, I've little doubt that interest will be at a premium, notwithstanding the unofficial status."

Organisation for the series finally appears to have come a full circle as it graduated from a five-match bilateral event between South Africa and Zimbabwe to a tournament that also includes Bangladesh.

Although the Zimbabwe board had said the costs of television production would be too much for it to bear, the inclusion of Bangladesh eased some of the monetary concerns and paved the way for the series to be broadcast. The matches will be without official status because the competition is outside the Future Tour Programme.

South Africa initially requested the tour as part of their planning for the World Twenty20 and named a young squad without regular captain AB de Villiers. Bangladesh asked to be part of the series after their request to play ODIs in South Africa was turned down by CSA, who said they could not accommodate any additional matches. ZC then restructured the event so South Africa would still only need to spend a week in the country to play four matches.

While South Africa will use the series as part of the build up to the full tour of England starting in July, for Zimbabwe it is a rare opportunity to play competitive cricket before the World Twenty20. Zimbabwe have not played since their January tour of New Zealand and only have this series and a triangular A series against South Africa A and Sri Lanka A in July.

Zimbabwe's scheduled hosting of Bangladesh in August was postponed because of maintenance work on the pitches in Harare and Bulawayo. Bangladesh were also in danger of not playing enough matches before the World Twenty20. After their Zimbabwe tour was pushed back, Bangladesh tried to engage South Africa for a series, but were rejected. They have since secured matches against Ireland and Netherlands.

I dont really favor having Big letter 'BANGLADESH' on chest or in any part of Jersey. Neither support having big size Sponsor logo (having NEWAY was disgraceful) or name also. As long as there is no dress code, designers have more liberty to use the space; any modern fassion jersey that potrait Bangladesh Cricket Board with smart use combination of base color of green, red, yellow.. and sensible use of sponsor's recommandations is good enough, I recon somthing that grooms well with brown skin, and touch of a desi collectable item what else a fan can ask. :)

What do you mean? I saw 8-10 people from BD training.

They normally practice in group 2-3 groups.

Grant Luden: Works with them as a fitness training, which gets done in the gym.

Jason Swift: Fielding

What you have seen was the practicing in the net. Apart from bowling and batting coach the other two don't have to be there unless they have nothing to do.

What's the big brouhaha about this series anyway. It is unofficial and stars need not show up.

Sarcasm off.

Because we are super excited to see the other players performance apart from 1 or 2 key players !!! I personally want to see Anamul making a statement and wish Mominul got a go !!! The time has come where we want to see team BD to rise rather than depending on 1 or 2 players !!

We'll need to replace Shakib with 2 players: a reliable batsman and a reliable bowler. I don't see Aumi and Sunny as adequate subs. Aumi has highly inconsistent technique and will probably crumble under pressure again. Sunny, though a hugely underrated bowler, can't bat at this level in any format. Rumman would've been the best replacement IMHO.

Without Shakib in the lineup Mushfiq will now become the key in the closing stages of the t-20 games. I hope Nasir can give Mushy the support he would need during high pressure chases. Hoping to see good performances from Tamim, Anamul, Nasir, Mushfiq and Ziaur in the batting department
Expecting nothing from Ash, Mahmudullah and Junaid

I wonder who will bowl the death overs now that Shak is not there. Before we had the option of bowling Mash out early while the ball is swinging. Razzak would have to step up and take the responsibility i reckon.

Sahara withdrew from sponsoring India Cricket in February. They are a business - there is always a profit motive tied to most philanthropic acts. Sponsoring a sports team is not philanthropy though. It's great marketing especially as they are breaking into new territory. The goodwill value from having sponsored is immeasurable.

Well Ziaur's power hitting is well known. He was in the squad for first ever T-20 WC. Kahaled Mahmud Sujon has given another life to his cricket when he started to play him as an opener.

As for his bowling. He was fast medium bowler but I think he got injured and now only bowls at medium pace. He was rarely used for DOHS.

I have seen him bowl a over or 2 for Chittagong Kings. Not sure need see more to make any comment.
