Dhaka, June 4 (bdnews24.com)—All is set for the second Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to roll onto the ground from Jan 17 if Bangladesh Cricket Board allows.

The date for start of the second edition of the Twenty20 cricket was twitted on Monday on the BPL's official twitter account.

"We want to start the second BPL from mid January," said BPL Governing Council Member Secretary Mohammad Alamgir.

"The Governing Council considers the time to be perfect for beginning with the game. It is still a proposal. It will require permission from Bangladesh Cricket Board," he added.

The first BPL was held in Dhaka and Chittagong last February. Dhaka Gladiators won the title for which six teams had fought.

Alamgir said preparation for the second edition was being taken beforehand for avoiding the flaws reported during the first tournament.

Hope they learnt from their mistakes and make it a bigger one this time around.

I want home and away system but looking at stadiums, it may not be possible this time. However, i want least 4-5 venues (Dhaka, Ctg, Bogra, Sylhet, Khulna) for BPL 2.

When/where did the BCB say that the franchises had paid all of their dues? I hadn't come across any such announcement...

Well as per this Pakistani source (http://boxscorenews.com/bcb-still-keen-on-touring-pakistan-mustafa-kamal-p38709-68.htm) 2nd June, M. Kamal seek apology for delay and stated, “To my knowledge, players and staff have been paid but there are some payments still outstanding. If any players or coaching staff have not been paid then they need to contact the organisers as soon as possible. The fact is that we have held such a tournament for the first time and the delays have been due to the required clearance from the Government, primarily due to 2 reasons. The first is one is the fact that these are foreign currency payments for which special clearance is required. The other reason is that there are tax considerations for all international players involved in BPL"

"I apologize for any delays due to some issues but looking to the next edition of the BPL, it’s the BCB that will sign the contracts with players directly and the payments will be made promptly on the due date without a problem.”

Afterall,it's a agood news. Though first time they make problem to pay the player, BCB should learn a lesson from that and take necessary steps for next season.

Higher scale for foreigh players again. This self inflicted inferiority complex should go. I understand that local players might not be worth more than foreigners on average. But let the freakin market/ aution decide that. What's the point of an auction then? Only in Bangladesh do you racism on its own people!

We should write a petition to BCB to get rid of this two scale system for foreigners and locals. It an be demoralizing for local players.

Unlike the first edition, the cash-rich tournament will spread out to three grounds this time and the matches will be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Chittagong’s MA Aziz Stadium along with the latest inclusion of Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Nasser Stadium.
Two other venues, Sylhet divisional stadium and Shahid Kamruzzaman stadium in Rajshahi, will be used for warm-up matches only.

considering that BPl player salary is no longer in the FICA agenda ( http://www.thefica.com/en/current-issues)...that BPL paid at least the foreign players...locals however have some settlements to be resolve (some of the icon players from last season wont get their full dues for sure)...having said that the locals would still appreciate bpl..since any money is better than no money (no bpl, nothing extra in the pocket)....this going rate for cricketers for leagues can be considered inflated due to ipl)...however, it is still good money in bpl considering that it is only a 3 weak gig for int players who doesn't have any commitments at that time..the money is still more than competitive compared to other gigs baring ipl.....

If they have an opportunity, I'm sure they will take it. That little money is still big enough for a 4 weeks long tournament and about 10 matches. But BPL needs to ensure that they conduct the tournament professionally. Players shouldn't have problems with facilities during the tournament and payments are sharp on time.

Gibbs has a point... Logistical mess, that means, arrangements are not coordinated well in advance, all last moment things make considerable botheration for the players. They should understand that they need to be of international standards, it's not a divisional tournament.

^ Well look atTrego and Gibbs as a player. Gibbs has played in IPL, Big Bash league. Even now when he is not exactly in his prime people still want him in their team. As for Trego who exactly knows him? I never heard of his name until last CLT20. Trego and Gibbs probably have completely different set of mindset/standard. While Trego might see BPL as a place where he can earn some extra money, Gibbs will see it as it's not worth the trouble for him, he still has other options.

Things are getting ugly. Start date of 17th is uncertain according to inqilab. Dhaka and Rajshahi teams activities are suspended by BPL governing committee.

I think most teams should be suspended for non payments. They should just look for new franchise now. And please don't limit the auction price, it's not really an auction anymore....with 150K you are not going to see any superstars anymore...

Ajfar
October 28, 2012, 09:03 AM
^ if they don't limit the auction price it will get out of control like last season. Franchise owner see this as a popularity contest. They want to show off more than what they have. Why else would the buy players with so much money but not intend to pay them? Because they love to show off that they have a lot of money while its happening. But don't care about the fact that they are ruining our image when they don't follow through with their words.

The important thing is that's its run and organised properly, helping our Cricket and players plus financially benefiting the Cricket board so that they can make Bangladesh Cricket succeed. It was so obvious that the first season of BPL was rushed which is why there was payment issues but as long as you sort that and plan properly for next season then its fine. The money may not be nowhere near IPL but I doubt players abroad will still refuse the money the BPL is offering now because that's still a lot even I would play in BPL if they were offering me that amount wouldn't you? the key factor is that at least we have a franchise base T20 tournament unlike some countries ;)
