Explanation is Rana played for the first time in the ODI in series, so he wanted to do well.
Hannan also knows that he position in the 11 is only for the fact that Shahriar is in injury. So he wanted to do well.
Just for their own interest. Not much of team spirit, I think.

I know. But the problem is in this case what we generally consider "Outside" is in effect quite the opposite. There is no outside ppl. the manager, the selection board these are all has to act as one single unit while performing their duties separately. Our team is very new and considering the ppl incharge there, I would assume they are not enlightened as one should be to bear such responsibilites. They should posses both the skills of Administration and Leadership. We are in the verge of a new era (at least in cricket). The players are merely a small part of the whole picture. I know how sujon drew his authority if he did at all, he must have used his influence everywhere to stay on the team. Now why should there be any such influence be effective so that a player like him be allowed to stay? This is the problem of administration. And unfortunately ppl like sujon will soon be holding the position of being one of the administrators himself. At that point if he makes the same mistakes then we are doomed. So while you are watching the game dont forget to look at the bigger picture.:duh:

I believe it will not be the case. The incident whatever it was did not touch Rana, who would bowl today. I wish he can get some wickets to impose pressure on Zim Batting line. Taposh might also continue his good bowling despite all the things.

Sujon is the problem. Some may argue, then what happened for the openers. They were immune from the incident. Being selected in the team, they were happy to show their performance. For rest of the team it was not the case.
We will hear lots of theories...

rooting them out is not the solution for you can never root out such ppl. It is for them to become more enlightened. They have to realize that it is not only about them it is for the greater glory of the team. ppl make mistakes and if they dont learn frm those mistakes then we just have to wait for there will be someone who will come forward and take all the responsibilty behind the scene without being concerned abt any recognition.

Ok..here is the deal.
1. Rafiq is sent home.
2. Sumon seems to have fitness problem, not sure caused by what.
3. Sumon is not a 'good' captain because he cant 'handle' the team.
So....(yes..some drumbeat...) we need CHACHA back as CAPTAIN....
sasharif
March 14, 2004, 06:27 AM
Let's wait for the fact to see what transpires. There is no point of arguing among ourselves with out knowing the fact. Although Khaled Mahmud does not deserve a place in the team, blaming him for every thing is not going to solve the problem. On a more optimistic note, Canada defended 180 against us in the WC 2003, Kenya defended 169 against WI in WC 1996. We can do too. One thing however puzzles me, if Bashar is fit why he comes in no7? if he is unfit why is he in the team at all?

March 14, 2004, 06:33 AM
As a fan I can accept 2-1 loss. I think it is a realistic reflection of the relative strength of 2 teams. However, I can not accept the way our batsmen surrendered to day after such a solid start. Lets hope after 27.2 overs the pitch became unplayable. So, Zim should collapse as well. pity we haven't got Rafique for what ever reason.

I thought Sumon came to bat at 7 because he is a specialist batsman who has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders; and since the openers scored a lot of runs and stayed for a lot of overs, so we had to put in who were not only in form, but also capable of hitting a few boundaries quickly - as in Ashraful?
sasharif

Ths thing is: at this point we cannot defend the remaining runs if Zimbabwe but on the overs. We need to attack with whatever we have, and if that requires a gamble of trying different bowlers, so be it. However, it should be backed up by aggresive fielding.
