Preview: Zimbabwe Twenty20 triangular series 2012
Zeeshan Mahmud

Pybus spoke about teamwork over ego, Ashraful is back with his sjambok and a million-dollar swagger, and the team as a whole is a point where it is about to peak. One only associates a serene image of a jacaranda surrounded Harare Sports Club with gabled pavilion. Planning a mayhem on the track may require much premeditation but will Bangladesh be up for it?

You mean the Afrikaaner words?

Thanks everyone.

Since the Afrikaaner topic is mentioned, and given the large fanbase in South Africa, is there an 'official' forum where we can perhaps bring invite the members and exchange thoughts as well as ask for some native Saffers to shed some light on the slangs?

too much unnecessary use of vocabulary. Doesn't make an article unique. I really hate it.

You mean this paragraph?

#takethat South Africa

One can vividly recall some flurry of drives and cuts that Ashraful dispatched Kleinveldt and M. Morkel before succumbing to sledging and throwing away his wicket to Botha (http://www.espncricinfo.com/rsavbdesh/engine/match/350347.html?batsman=24667;innings=2;view=commentar y). While Ashraful might not be the closet vrotbek but to get on the nerve of the sneeudier, he has familiarized himself with some Jo'Burgian Afrikaans. Only if he could distinguish his skyf from skief with some vors and meelie meal, in his stetson hat, gold rimmed monocle and tux, the country as a whole, could have moved on to the next phase:
I found it fun and enjoyed learning Afrikaaner phrases. There's a glossary at he end of the article. I too had to look them up. Anyway - some like these kind of literary artifices and some don't. Yes, it is quite subjective.

Do not worry bhai, you have me on the forum I'll help you with the slang. After all Zimbabwe and South Africa speak the same kind of slang...

Thanks for speaking your mind.

Actually since BC is a fan based site and thus we have more lax, I intentionally went for a topsy-turvy spin (such as this line itself!). Note: Not all articles must conform to a CI-style of formality neither should we have to follow their standards, ie if you are comparing and contrasting. They are more professional journalist.

We could've easily cut the fluff and wordplays, but due to the zany nature of BC, it was meant to be read as a fun piece.

Thanks for reading! :)

I enjoy the variety you bring in through the humor and the wordplay... it adds flavor to mundane cricket matters. People looking for straight-up/formal articles can always go to cricinfo to satisfy their needs.

good job!

I'm a bit of a vrotbek, and with a lot of laaities on this forum, most of the sledges might not be appropriate. I'll try to think of some less offensive ones.

Excellent... I think one of the best in BC so far. CI previews are so boring and bounded by formats... I stopped reading those... Thanks

While I can understand why some people may have found this a little hard to follow, I think it's worth the effort in the end. In fact, you could ask the the wordplay James Joyce-esque. Yes, I quite like that idea, this article is BC's Ulysses...
