Inshallah..Afghanistan is not going to be like Qatar. They fought well with Sri Lanka (just lost by 4 wickets) and got a huge win against Qatar. So our Junior Tigers will need to play well. But Inshallah they'll do it.

Afghans have an outside chance of winning...if we do win big, it will be a good thing to carry forward. Hope we bat first.

We need to choke the Afghanis with spinners. May be we should bench Abu Haider and taken an extra batsman for the match.

Anamul's joining this squad right??? Zim tour is over so i c y not!

I don't think so...the squad is probably fixed, although ICC should allow inclusions for players who were absent due to national or other higher level duties.

Aslam finally gets going...a boundary! 21-0

Bangladesh's openers punishing most things loose, batting within themselves, a good contest brewing

Eshen
June 25, 2012, 09:56 PM
For the first time, we see an SLA in the team - Nasum Ahmed, in place of Abu Haider. The team got plenty of spinners. I would have taken an extra batsman in place of Naeem Islam.

CI: Salman Hossain's been holding the innings together, played some good strokes, but has been forced into defensive mode. Bangladesh will want him to go on and post a big one

He was into defensive mode from the word go. He should have been little more positive to avoid putting extra pressure on Soumya to score quickly.

Naimul_Hd
June 25, 2012, 10:32 PM
100 up for us.

They should aim for around 210-220.

100 up for us.

They should aim for around 210-220.

they're already at 4 an over...they should aim for 250 minimum, 275 if the big hitting works out down the order.

TigerEz
June 25, 2012, 10:36 PM
200 or 230 is not a defendable score against the afghans.....they have good batters ...so have to get t o260 or 270!

Eshen
June 25, 2012, 10:48 PM
He was into defensive mode from the word go. He should have been little more positive to avoid putting extra pressure on Soumya to score quickly. But Shoumya got out defending! He loses his wicket to offies pretty regularly, don't see how we can blame Salman here.

Naimul_Hd
June 25, 2012, 10:49 PM
they're already at 4 an over...they should aim for 250 minimum, 275 if the big hitting works out down the order.

They have scored 33 runs in the last 10 overs. And the way both batsmen are playing with SR of 38 and 58, i hardly see them start hitting in the next 6-7 overs. Again, if those 2 batsmen get out within 40 overs, can't see later order banging from the start.

So, instead of targeting 250 now, they better target 220 first and if possible, push it to 240 mark.

As i write, Salman gone. :(

It's probably not the quality of the bowlers, but that the pitches are underprepared and making it hard for the batsmen to time the ball well. Shoumya did talk about the issue in his interview.

If a team scored 370 plus runs in one match, how do they get only 240 against Afghanistan? Granted, Qatar was pretty much a bad bowling machine practice session but I expected that Bangladesh would score 270 plus score against Afghanistan, especially at the U19 level. I certainly hope that Bangladesh can defend this total with the variation it has in bowling... Otherwise, I am will be really shocked if we lost semi spot to Afghanistan.. at T20, I can accept a defeat to associate teams but in ODI, a loss requires some serious deliberation and consequences!!

A very good example of bias crapinfo:

When India gets bundled out for mediocre 176 against a weaker Nepal, this is what crapinfo has to say. A very few words:

"India have been bowled out for 176, a good bowling effort from Nepal bowlers, Vishwakarma and Bhuban Karki taking 3 wickets each. For India the top scorers have been Chand and Aparajith. Join us in some time for the chase."

Just a single line praise for the Nepalese and nothing about the embarrasing Indian batting collapse.

But when Bangladesh puts up 240/9 against Afghanistan, this is what crapinfo says:

43 runs off the last three overs have brought Bangladesh right back up and they've posted a very challenging 240. Afghanistan may indeed chase them down, it remains a good wicket for batting, Afghanistan's captain has asked for the light roller to be put on during lunch, just wanting to smooth the track down further. Thanks for logging on, join us again in 40 minutes for what promises to be an exciting few hours

Or it could be that they will keep the wickets and start slogging in the last 5 overs to overcome an easy total of 240?

Afgan boys are mentally much stronger and Bangladeshi boys are much more experienced... its now an even game, Had Bangladesh scored 300 runs, AFG had no chance but with 240, its less than 5 RPO and with some slogging, SEMI is now Afghanistan's to lose and Bangladesh's to earn..

I heard they have some Pakistanis in their team too, is that right?

with just 21 overs left, they probably wont be able to dismiss the Afghans...need to tie them down with our spinners.

The rain ruined our spin attack strategy. The ball must be slippery and pretty much impossible to grip. I sense the [] crowd in Mirpur and Mohammadpur getting ready to celebrate with Pak-Afghan hybrid flags.

:floor: Apparently, people that are refered as afghan are born in afghanistan. however, people refered as afghani or afghanistan in full are most from pakistan?.. confused, how does it work?:D

I feel we lucked out on DL...only 20 runs reduced on the target...although I guess its because our tail enders batter better than our top order.
