Could have had a one day match in Khulna, if they would play the first 4 dayer in Dhaka and then move to Khulna...somehow bcb can't take even these matches nation wide...

This is good to hear our plyers who are out of national team have a lot of match. BCB should make the matches play all over the country sothat yong guys all over the country can have watched the match and inspired themselves.

Travel expenses, player fatigue, time constraint two city travel is good. Another team can travel to Sylhet/dhaka. British teams can have direct flight. :)

will the match against Bangladesh A carry First Class status?

I hope we select guys like Rabbi, Al Amin, Anamul for the A team and not less heralded players.

Any matches by academy or hp unit does not get a FC status.

well, looking forward to the series. Id back BD A team to win because the Windies have a strong first XI but anyone outside their first XI arent that great. Guys like thompson, charles, baughh are outclass to the likes of gayle, russel, pollad, bravo

yes you are correct when you say this, WI can put together quite a good first XI but their bench players are horrible, i think they have a couple of decent pacers coming through but overall their bench strength is shocking.

Good to see Taskin being fast tracked like this. Ratul's exclusion comes to me as no surprise. Shouraubh will be in the Academy side for sure as will Shoummo and Liton.

Clearly Anam/Enam has been promoted to senior duty. His selections in AC and ZIM tri series indicate that. I'd still like him to play for the A/Academy sides still. Maybe he will.

Momin was in the A team and by far the top bat in the India tour, surely he can't be relegated to the Academy side. Perhaps selectors have senior team aspirations for him already also.

Excellent. We need more tours like this at least 3 a year. Gives an excellent opportunity for youngsters and fringe players.

Also in the 90's we used to have tournament for the A teams. That too could give our guys a lot of experience. Even India plays a 3-4 team tournament- India, India A, India B, India Under 19. The event is well publicized, covered on tv and gives emerging talent excellent opportunity to prove themselves.

Those who missed out should have been there probably gonna work with McInnes in the academy unless BCB have some other plan, which i doubt so nothing to worried about.

Plus, there is a 4 day game vs Academy team so i'm 100000% sure Anamul, Mominul, asif, SoSa, Shabbir, Abu Jayed, Gazi, Babu, etc will be there...

yes you are correct when you say this, WI can put together quite a good first XI but their bench players are horrible, i think they have a couple of decent pacers coming through but overall their bench strength is shocking.

Hi bang fans, looking at this statement i can't really agree with it to be honest, the HPC squad are effectively a collection of some of the best youngsters around the region, most have already established themselves in all formats for their countries but the academy offers them extra training and more matches to hone their skills, plus it's run by coaches from English county teams from the likes of Middlesex who worked with Steven Finn, Oign Morgan to name a few,

The group on this tour are the second bunch, the first group was a success and developed the likes of Shannon Gabriel (who just got four wickets vs England in his first test), Kieran Powell (just scored a ton against NZ) and Devon Thomas (who has also played for the WI senior team against Bang at the last world cup),

Many of the other youngsters from that first HPC group are in the A-team that just took India-A apart recently, an India team including senior internationals like Rohit Sharma, Pujara, Tiwary, Saha, Mukund, Rahane and Rahul Sharma amoungst others , HERE (http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/562897.html) is one of the scorecards,

In all honesty i think this second group who'll be playing in this tour are very talented, the Captain is an alrounder named Carlos Brathwaite who has very good stats with both bat and ball and has been hailed as someone who could finally get Sammy out of the senior team, he averages 21 with the ball and 27 with the bat in 13 first class matches, one of those knocks was an 81 not out vs England lions, he also has 50s vs Bang-A already,

Another name to look out for is the Jamaican Sheldon Cotterrell who is a VERY FAST left-arm pacer who a lot of people in the caribbean are excited about, he can swing the ball and is quite aggressive so it will be interesting to see how he does, in the batting department there is Kyle Hope who is very stylish, Keddy Lesporis who is a grinder and has a habit of getting 50s, Jermaine Blackwood who is just getting his big break now after impressing for the Jamaica senior team in the limited games he's played for them and Andre Fletcher who already has an A-team ton vs India under his belt and has played for the WI one day and t20 senior teams already,

There are some other decent pacers too like Jason Dawes who looks a little like Kemar Roach but still a little raw, and Miguel Cummins who is a abit of a mystery right now because he hasn't played a lot for Barbados yet, the left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul who captained the A-team to victory against India has been drafted in late to replace opening batsman Johnson Charles who is with the t20 world cup squad, so he'll provide the spin with a young Trinidad leggy named Yannic Cariah, who got 13 wickets for Trinidad last year in his debut season aged just 19,

All in all i expect it to be a tough series and may the best team win, these games can only benefit both Bang and WI in the long term, i'm confident that our boys can do well but i do still remember the tough time your A-team gave our lads last year in the caribbean, we just about won the four day series when a then unknown Sunil Narine got us over the line by hitting a 40 not out,

Hopefully you guys will be able to give regular updates because i've been told that the west indies Twitter won't be doing live updates i'm afraid!! .

Welcome to the board Windiefan! Thanks for your invaluable little report on your boys. We hope it will be a good tour for all parties!

Here's the squad:

Sagicor HPC Squad 2012

Marlon Barclay – Trinidad & Tobago (LHB)

Jermaine Blackwood – Jamaica (RHB/Right Arm Off Spin)

Carlos Brathwaite – Barbados (RHB/Right Arm Fast Medium)

Yannic Cariah – Trinidad & Tobago (RHB/Right Arm Leg Spin)

Johnson Charles – St Lucia (RHB/WKT)

Sheldon Cotterell – Jamaica (RHB/Left Arm Fast)

Miguel Cummins – Barbados (LHB/Right Arm Fast)

Jason Dawes – Jamaica (RHB/Right Arm Fast)

Andre Fletcher – Grenada (RHB/WKT)

Dawnley Grant – St Vincent (RHB/Right Arm Fast)

Trevon Griffith – Guyana (LHB)

Kyle Hope – Barbados (RHB/Right Arm Off Spin)

Jahmar Hamilton – Anguilla (RHB/WKT)

Keddy Lesporis – St Lucia (RHB/Right Arm Off Spin)

Kjorn Ottley – Trinidad & Tobago (LHB/Left Arm Chinaman)

Jomel Warrican – Barbados (LHB/Left Arm Orthodox Spin)

Fletcher and Carlos have been in and out of the Windies limited overs teams, the former due to issues of form, and the latter due to injury. I'm not sold on Johnson Charles and Keddy Lesporis, whom I don't think are good enough, but were only selected because they come from the Windward Islands, the home region of the current WICB administration.

The rest of the squad have only just started their FC careers, so it's early days where they are concerned. This tour should separate the sheep from the goats. Cotterell has made a decent start in the winning Jamaica team, but Blackwood and Dawes are just on the fringes of that strong side. Barclay has made a good start at Trinidad, but Ottley and Cariah are in and out of that side. Cummings, Hope and Warrican are yet to make an impact for Barbados, and the same can be said for Griffith at Guyana.

As for Hamilton, the jury's still out on him as a keeper/batsman....

just for the record i'm not saying there isn't talent, but talent needs to translate into consistent performance, something that is lacking in WI domestic cricket and we are yet to see it at the international level in the last few years (besides the regulars e.g. gayle, chanderpaul, roach etc, although russell is newer and doing great). i've known about carlos brathwaite for awhile and thought he was a really good prospect and heard about cotterrell to. jason holder is also a good prospect. as far as spinners go WI has lots of them atm, and they have good stats but they've got to back them up.

in regards to knocking sammy out of the national team, if andre russell can't do it i don't think anyone can, that guy is as talented as anyone and has been performing.

the problem is in the past the WI team has been incredible, if you were to make an all time team for each test country the WI team would be a strong contender for being the best team. when you have such amazing fast bowling greats and you see whats happened to WI fast bowlers over the last 10 years it's hard to see them getting back to that level atm and when it comes to batting WI has had some giants in walcott, weekes, headley, worrell, lara, chanderpaul, hunte, viv and then you see how recent yonger batting talents have developed.

anyway, to look at WI bench strength just see the team that BD beat in their test series win. like i said, not saying talent isn't there but it has to translate into consistent performance.

but by the sounds of it things are improving and on the up so that's great to here and we are eager to see how this series goes. good luck to both teams.

I think thats very harsh, Lesporis is a young batsman who has done well for Winwards in the four day competition over the last two years, yes he's not Darren Bravo but he's making his way up in the game and this is what the HPC is there for, to IMPROVE the young players, not everything has to be "political".

Dawes are just on the fringes of that strong side. Barclay has made a good start at Trinidad, but Ottley and Cariah are in and out of that side. Cummings, Hope and Warrican are yet to make an impact for Barbados, and the same can be said for Griffith at Guyana.
Dawes just played a full season for CCC alongside Holder and Mcclean and he done ok, i'm not sure he'll be playing for Jamaica again anytime soon, and lastly Cariah is just unlucky that he plays for Trinidad who already have Narine and Kantasingh, if he does well for HPC though i'm sure he'll be fine.

Again i can't agree, Darren Bravo averages in the 40s at international level, Narine has been a sensation, Rampaul has done well over the past few years and Samuels is coming into his own now, even Deonarine has knuckled down and is looking good, so we're not just relying on the old regulars anymore like you suggested, we've got some serious talent coming through now and it's just a matter of nuturing them the right way, tours like this will only help in that department imo,

in regards to knocking sammy out of the national team, if andre russell can't do it i don't think anyone can, that guy is as talented as anyone and has been performing.
The problem with Russell is his bowling has gone backwards since he broke through in 2010, it's ok for the limited overs but in test cricket i don't think it's good enough, Brathwaite on the other hand is quicker than BOTH Sammy and Russell, and i firmly believe he has the potential to take wickets at the heighest level, he's also very good with the bat aswell which is the only thing thats keeping Sammy in the side because the coaches want someone to add runs down tail,

the problem is in the past the WI team has been incredible, if you were to make an all time team for each test country the WI team would be a strong contender for being the best team. when you have such amazing fast bowling greats and you see whats happened to WI fast bowlers over the last 10 years it's hard to see them getting back to that level atm and when it comes to batting WI has had some giants in walcott, weekes, headley, worrell, lara, chanderpaul, hunte, viv and then you see how recent yonger batting talents have developed.
To be fair our 1980s team could be considered to be the greatest test team to have played the game, so the current players are always gonna come up short when compared to them, we've been to the bottom of the gutter over the past ten years thats for sure but right now we see hope in the new youngsters coming through, Darren Bravo, Narine and Powell amoungst others all look very good right now,

anyway, to look at WI bench strength just see the team that BD beat in their test series win. like i said, not saying talent isn't there but it has to translate into consistent performance.

In all fairness that 2009 series isn't relevent NOW, we've moved on since then and to be honest that wasn't even the second best team we could have put on the field, looking at it it was just a mish mash of third rate players and a few talented youngsters, that wouldn't happen now though and our A-team is proof that we've got some damn good reserve to call upon now.

But yeah i'll say it again good luck to both teams, i've always admired the passion of the bang fans and the fact that they turn up to support their team game after game despite results not always going their way!! .

Welcome to the board Windiefan! Thanks for your invaluable little report on your boys. We hope it will be a good tour for all parties!

Just as an FYI...Gowza is actually not a Bangladeshi...he's an Aussie who just happens to know every domestic player from all the Test nations, lol!

Thanks for the welcome sir, i'm happy to share a caribbean point of view during this tour, i'm looking forward to this just as much as the t20 world cup to be honest, probably more now after our warm up match against Sri-lanka today!! .

darren bravo, narine, samuels and deo are all in the national team so they aren't bench strength, they've broken through into the main team already. also samuels is 30+, deo is 29, ravi is about to turn 28 so they're in the middle of they're careers, they should be performing, they've been around the team awhile, although when you look at their stats they're doing ok but if that's the best after chanderpaul and gayle are gone it will be tough.

again, i'm not saying there isn't talent but they need to develop and perform consistently, better than they have been (ravi a 35 average in tests s/r of 72, deo averaging 29 with the bat in tests, 31 in one-dayers - they're ok but not quite up to the mark). in saying that you can say the same for the youngsters and even the older ones (late 20s/early30s) in a lot of the teams atm aren't up to standard. zim, BD, WI, NZ, SL, aus, india's pacers. the whole of cricket atm is going through a transition phase. pretty much every team except for SA and england are in that phase and clearly the incoming players still haven't hit their strides yet.

Well in THIS (http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-west-indies-2011/engine/match/535999.html) test vs India last year we had no Chanders or Gayle and still managed to put up 590 and draw the game, SIX of those players (Brathwaite, Barath, Edwards, Fidel, Bishoo and Baugh) would be considered "bench" players right now as they didn't even play against NZ, so i'd say our reserves are much better than people think, plus only Brathwaite and Bishoo from that bunch played for the A-team that beat India aswell.

Yeah i agree many teams are in transition, but we're far from being the worst imo, infact i think we've had a headstart of many teams as our youngsters have been forced to develop in tough environments, Brathwaite for example was just 18 years old in that India series i posted above and he got 50s against the likes of Ashwin and Ojha coming at him on spinning tracks and fielders all around the bat.

LOL yeah that was a crazy game indeed!!, i remember being very nervous about it aswell, many of our fans felt we would be beaten, i don't know what happened really, i think Bang might have caught us on a very good day, remember it was only a year earlier that we rolled out England for 51 at Sabina Park in a test match which won us the series, but you did get some revenge in the one day series we played last year so all is not lost!! :D .

yes there is definitely talent there but let's look at their consistency. barath averages 23 in tests, brathwaite 21, edwards 39, bravo 44, powell 25. so a couple of them have done really well, the others are not players that could be relied upon, certainly they've had good performances but they haven't managed it consistently enough to be relied upon. certainly there is talent, but also certainly those averages and that consistency will have to be improved upon.

Yeah i totally agree, the key thing is their ages though!!..

Brathwaite= 19
Barath= 22
Bravo= 23
Powell= 22 (he just got his test first ton)
Edwards= 27

So bar Edwards many of them have the potential to vastly improve and play for another ten years or more, thats why i'm hopeful that our future is bright, same thing goes with the bowlers like Roach, Gabriel, Holder, Narine etc, their all 24 or below.

of course age is a major factor and the WI guys have plenty of it! for sure if they keep playing a lot of them could play for another 15 years even. talent certainly is there, and they have the time to improve. btw your knowledge on the WI players is very much welcomed here, always like to hear about any player more indepth.

Not a bad squad overall. Asif should have really made it but he does himself to blame for being so poor in the U19 WC. Hope he works hard after being dropped. Likewise for Noor. He hasn't done much to warrant a place.

It will be a big test for Anamul and Mominul who are looking to be in the national team in the near future.

I think thats very harsh, Lesporis is a young batsman who has done well for Winwards in the four day competition over the last two years, yes he's not Darren Bravo but he's making his way up in the game and this is what the HPC is there for, to IMPROVE the young players, not everything has to be "political".

I actually agree with Gowza that the bench strength is something that's yet to be properly tested...I hope the guys do well, but I'm worried about them. I think the FC stats say it all:

Charles - 17 FC matches, ave 19.32 (bat)

Griffith - three FC matches, ave 9.20 (bat)

Barclay - four FC matches, ave 29.33 (bat)

Fletcher - 44 FC matches, ave 30.93 (bat)

Lesporis - 21 FC matches, ave 24.48 (bat)

Blackwood - one FC match, ave 12 (bat)

Hope - 10 FC matches, ave 22.31 (bat)

Hamilton - 16 FC matches, ave 21.96 (bat)

Ottley - six FC matches, ave 14.90 (bat)

Warrican - three FC matches, averages 16 with both bat and ball

Carlos - 13 FC matches, ave 27.31 (bat) ave 21.69 (bowl)

Cariah - five FC matches, ave 26.23 (bowl)

Cotterell - 10 FC matches, ave 30.38 (bowl)

Cummings - one FC match, no impact

Dawes - 14 FC matches, ave 35 (bowl)

Grant - no FC matches

A couple of things strike you about this squad....

1) Aside from Fletcher, everyone else in the side has played less than 22 FC matches. That means their short of experience, and playing in Bangladesh might be quite a challenge for them.

2) Aside from Fletcher, the batsmen average under 30 in their limited FC careers to date.

I don't think we're looking at any future Brian Laras in this squad, but hopefully a few of the batsmen will develop some consistency which will allow them to cement a place in their regional teams. Maybe Cariah will improve as a spinner, but my main hopes for this tour are to see some progress with some potentially good pacers - Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Dawes, Sheldon Cotterrell, and maybe Miguel Cummings.

But that has been the problem with West Indies cricket in recent times...we can produce a few good bowlers, but the batting cupboard is very bare indeed.

Considering the talent (or lack thereof) pool of our upcoming players, I'm expecting to lose the series pretty easily. We'll put up a decent fight with ineffective spin bowlers on our slow, low pitches, but ultimately, good players will overcome our sissy bowlers. West Indies have a much better talent pool than they had 5 or 6 years back, well ahead of our's.

That's a pretty decent squad, only negative is the lack of pacers, would loved to have seen Al Amin and Abu Jayed in there too but it wasn't going to happen considering they were not even picked for the Academy side.

My XI would be:-

1. Shahriar Nafees
2. Imrul Kayes
3. Anamul Haque
4. Naeem Islam
5. Roqibul Hasan
6. Mominul Haque
7. Farhad Hossain
8. Dhiman Ghosh (WK)
9. Enamul Haque (Jr.)
10. Shahadat Hossain
11. Nazmul Hossain

Although the bowling unit looks weak I was forced to choose only two pacers as the only other pacer in the squad was Kamrul Islam Rabbi who had just been dismantled when playing for the academy against this WI side.
Nazmul, Shahadat, and Enamul are going to have to do the bulk of the bowling, with support from Farhad Hossain, who has excellent all-round stats in domestic first class cricket (yea I know it's closer to picnic cricket) and Naeem can be used to provide rest to the other bowlers.
On the other hand batting looks very strong with Dhiman batting down at 8 and Enamul and Shahadat, who are no mugs with the bat, produce a strong tail.

Holden, having just 3 full time bowlers would not be good enough to take 20 wickets. You need to have at least 4. And looking at our recent results, we need 2 SLA's in order to bowl out the WI. So I would drop Farhad from your team and add Saqlain. I agree with the rest of our squad however. Let's hope we can do better than the tour of India.

Holden
September 19, 2012, 08:58 PM
Fair point Tiger444, like I said the bowling is weak but that's because of the limited choice in this squad. I chose Farhad over Saqlain as I don't think there is that big a difference in what they bring bowling wise and also Farhad has other advantages.
Farhad actually has a very similar bowling average and strike rate to Saqlain Sajib, and also an offie would add variety to Enamul's SLA. Farhad is also a consistent top performing batsmen in domestic cricket and so would bring a big advantage over Saqlain in terms of batting.

Farhad's only a part time bowler though bro. Look at last years NCL stats. He bowled about 100 overs whereas Saqlain bowled about 370 overs. So to rely on Farhad to bowl all those overs and rely on him as a batsman is being defensive IMO. I would have Saqlain in there and have Naeem bowl some of his offies.

The difference is that some of our bowlers in the HPC can already make the transition to the A team, and possibly even the senior team, right now, such as Permaul, Cotterrell and Carlos. But none of the batsmen are ready for that transition - not even Fletcher. Hope has come on a bit, but if he finds his way into the A team on the basis of 60 runs at an average of just 30 in this match, then it shows an even greater paucity in the A team batting cupboard than I thought....

Our players should be using matches like these to stake a claim to the A team, to move up another level, especially those batsmen who are in the 23-24 range, and who should be reaching maturity soon. Yes, they haven't had much FC cricket, but how long are we going to wait on them to get FC experience? Our domestic season is already only half as long as it should be. We can't wait on these guys to reach 28 to get the FC experience they need. Fletcher, Hope and Barclay should be delivering at this level, the way Permaul and Cotterrell delivered. Instead, the averages of these three batsmen in this match in the 23-24 category are as follows:

Fletcher - 35
Hope - 30
Barclay - 27.5

Not the kind of performances to merit a promotion....

In contrast, both Permaul and Cotterrell showed that they deserve to be in the A team too.

What "level" though? you mean the level thats sees these batters facing TEST SPINNERS in their own backyard? well i'd say both Fletcher and Hope did ok then, we can't just expect them to turn up in every single game, but even so i'd say 200 and a 50 in two matches is more than good enough from Hope, the boy is indeed a talent and with a good first class season i'd think he'd be put into the A-team, i'd also say Hamilton done himself justice aswell in that second innings, it's a work in progress at the end of the day, they've just been with the academy for a few months so lets wait and see how they are by the end of their term shall we?

Anyway i think we can take a lot away from those two four day matches, Cotterrell certainly put his hand up and i believe he will be in the A-team sooner rather than later, it will be big contest between him and Delorn Johnson to see who makes it into the WI senior side first, Permaul of course was impressive too, so i'm ok with how things are going even though i was disappointed with the defeat,

Also just a word about Charles, bang fans the kid who just hit 80 against england would have been playing for this hpc team if he wasn't in Sri-lanka!!.. i think you might have gotten off a little lucky there!! :D .

Yeah HPC won by 53 runs

HPC 234/10 & Bang-A 181/10

Really it was the two gems in our bowling line-up that done all the damage, the much hyped Cotterrell got another 4fer and Permaul once again got in the wickets and claimed his third 4fer and 20th wicket of this tour, Cotterrell started like a house on fire and got two wickets in his first two overs to remove the openers, so it was always gonna be an uphill task but to their credit Bang did rebuild and responded strongly, Nafees was hitting boundries for fun and him and Islam were going well together, but then Islam fell to spin and Cotterrell got Nafees in the very next over and the writing was on the wall from there, suddenly the spinners took hold and it was a very big struggle after that,

Been some good games in this tour though and at least the bang batsmen have been tested by some quality spin and pace, those experiences can only help them in the long run imo.

Promising and upcoming players are not for A team, they are for Academy or HP. I find the team very close to be the best A team we could have. Well we could argue with 1/2 players, but that doesn't make a big difference.

Thats how the selectors work it out. The oldies/failures/have beens ie (Nafees, Rock and to an extent Imrul) are all in the A team so the selectors can see if they still have what it takes. But the young up and comers ie (Asif, Soumya, Shabbir, Nur) are in a different team because they are trying to prove their worth and are still in a learning curve. But Anamul is in the A team because he isnt far off from the national team.

I really want Nafees to do well again. If he finds form then we have an option for the #3 position alongside Jahurul and Anamul. So there will be competition there. I reckon Nafees at his best is much better then Jahurul. As much as i like Imrul im not too sure where he is headed. Will he return to the team as the opener or will it be someone else? I doubt Ashraful will play ODI's so ill leave him out of the equation. I think Nafees could quite possibly open the batting with Tamim and Anamul bats at #3. Or perhaps Jahurul will fit back into the team.

Fighting for the openers/#3 spot
Imrul Kayes
Shahriar Nafees
Anamul Haque
Jahurul Islam
Mohammad Ashraful
Junaid Siddique

Its a tough choice from who to pick but id take Ash & Junaid out of the equation. This series is a good indicator to who can prove their worth.

Gowza
September 30, 2012, 11:12 PM
imrul imo has a chance of coming back as the ODI opener, he's clearly not a longer format player at this point so in tests he is a no no but he managed a 61 in the last one-day A team match playing as opener. i to would knockout ash and junaid. nafees potentially could be good, he's shown it in the past just isn't consistent, jahurul we haven't given enough exposure to figure out quite yet imo and anamul has his u19 and domestic records backing him.

i think mominul is in the equation for the #3 spot, unfortunately he got injured but i'm sure he would have played had he not and he's been the leading A team scorer recently so i definitely think he's a possibility at #3.

i'm a bit worried anamul hasn't scored many runs in this A team series yet though, some good scores in this series should have ensured him a spot in the next national team series and an extended run in the squad imo. what i didn't like is they batted him so low in the 4-day game, in ODIs and t20!s he might play as keeper but i don't think he should in tests, he's needed much more at the top of the order, in tests they should play dhiman as the keeper, anamul at #2 or #3 and mushy in the middle order.

well marshall ayub was a once up coming prospect, then he went missing for a few years and he's been back this year doing ok. plus he bowls legspin so he is a player worth investing in imo. sabbir and kapali haven't done to much of recent times, so i'm not that surprised that marshall ayub was selected ahead of them. but sabbir and kapali are 2 good legspin allround talents. taskin was obviously selected due to his u19 exploits and his pace and height (basically selected on potential, which in BD isn't uncommon because let's face it, not's not not like BD players have incredible domestic records, usually A team and national team selections are based on potential with the hope that they can develop their skills and learn more consistency at the international level).

out of all the players playing for Bangladesh A, like Gowza said, I think Imrul could come back as an ODI opener and Naeem Islam for a Test Slot...that is if those slots are available...otherwise, No one really impressed in this tour. Anamul may have to wait a little longer...

From this tour, we can tell that the A team still doesn't get enough regular tours which is one of the reasons why we're seeing this team not gelling very well. This group shoud be practicing together more and playing more so that they can get better as a team. The main problem is obviously the fact that our domestic system is just not doing a good enough job in preparing our guys for the highest level. If we don't continue to improve our cricket, there will always be talented players coming and going but not achieving their full potential.

Now moving on to the players that have a shot at making the touring party for the series against the WI. Imrul should stay on as our opener for ODI's, but shouldn't be our opener for T20's and Tests. Mominul will most likely be picked for all forms of the game after being the most consistent batsman in the A team games for a while now. SN, Enamul and Naeem have shots at making the Test team. Anamul also has a chance for being there for all 3 formats. The rest I would say have little to no chance of making the team against the WI.

Dhaka, Oct 2 (bdnews24.com) - Bangladesh A won the final one-day match against West Indies High Performance Centre by nine wickets on Tuesday.
Electing to bat, the visitors were shot out for just 54 in 18 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Only two batsmen managed to reach double figures - Keddy Lespori (15) and Yannic Cariah (11 not out).
The home side romped to victory in 8.4 overs losing only the wicket of Shahriar Nafees. Besides opener Soumya Sarker had to retire hurt after pulling a hamstring.
The two Haques , Mominul (25) and Anamul (23), then rattled up the required runs.

This is A team, playing some WI HP team. That really doesn't say that he has matured for the National team. Having seen his attitude in the field, I'm not at all hopeful that he can turn into a high performing pro at this level ever. He is he'll of a lousy guy in the field, shows his approach to the game in early days.

Well, there is no harm keeping him in the A team and Academy or HP unit, if he can develop that attitude and change. For the time being, there is no point even keeping Shahadat outside and taking him in the national team and ruining his future, if there is any.

Gowza

at this point better to keep abul in the A team or academy team, give him development, surely his on field attitude can change but in terms of the national team that doesn't really matter to much because he's not ready for the national team, except...oh wait he'll be selected anyway probably. if a player is clearly not giving it his all on field i think there should be disciplinary action taken.

see this is what i'm saying, anamul out for 17, agian failed to make a decent score. i'm high on the kid, i've been high on him and rallying for him to be fast tracked into the national team but when you have this sort of A series and the one chance you got for the the national team was a flop (despite being unofficial), it makes it really difficult for the selectors to pick you.

his current status is this: performs superbly at the u19 level, performs really well in domestic First-Class cricket, average for A team, no good in his only chance for the national team. true his national chance was t20 so you can kind of disregard it to a degree, but you can't disregard these A team performances, that's what they're for, do well in A team=ready for national team call, do bad in A team=not ready yet. i realise saying that make it's very theoretical but in has to play some factor if not a big factor for a young up coming player when they're trying to move onto the national team.

Good to see Naeem playing consistently. Akram Khan also pointed him out the other day on his performances. So no doubt he's close to a come back.

The problem I have with him is that he's another Riyad type player. Both are part time bowlers who would not make it in the team solely on their bowling skills, both are very suspect against the new ball which is why their not good options in the top 4, both take a while to get settled in before they're settled in, and both have had multiple chances but have not really flourished. I don't want to hear the excuse that Naeem batted too low either, so did Nasir but he consistently performed which is why team management forced him up the order. So Naeem doesn't really offer much on the table in my opinion.

That being said, we still rely on Shakib and Tamim so much and besides Nasir, nobody else have really stood up and raised their hands. So the key is for Naeem, if he comes in for the WI tour, is to play consistently and prove he can take his game to the next level. If he can do that, then that would be a great outcome for us.

I don't rate Naeem's bowling much. His ball just doesn't spin at all. Although on sluggish pitches like ours, it's OK.

Naeem, Riyad, and Nasir are all part time spinners at best. All aren't good enough to bowl long spells. That's why it was a mistake not to try Sohag in this A team series. We should try to have more variety in our attack and not just depend on SLA's and part time offies.

How come Shohag Gazi and Al Amin could not get a single game remains a mystery!

It's sad to see we have no one besides these proven failures like Naeem, Rock, Junaid, Ashraful etc. The standard of our bench is shocking both in terms of batting and bowling.

Bangladesh A won by 4 wickets. Really disappointed with Anamul's form he may have blown his chance to debut against the West Indies in November.

Way too early for Anamul to be introduced in the full colours. But, he could be part of the squad tho. Just for grooming only.

Naeem...is a nothing batsman. And, i dont think one or two good innings against a HP side changes that fact. He needs to learn the basics of batting first at the NCL level for a year or two. I had the misfortune of watching him live at the Oval in London. He was embarressingly poor!

Abul could be a genuine prospect for us. He has pace, bounce and aggression...what all the fast bowlers need. He is still very young in terms of grasping the art of fast bowling (which isnt an easy task). This boy could regularly bowl into the early 140Ks in time. Usually fast bowlers and the leggies need time to master their arts. It is quite amusing to read some of the comments here about Abul -as if tho BD is teeming with Waqars, Wasims and Marshalls. Get a grip guys! :)

What do you mean by form?? He has to first show his ability in T20 and then you can say lack of form for a poor performance... Except in BPL I haven't seen him doing anything in T20s... He needs to prove him worth first, beyond U19 level... Till now he is highly over rated by everyone in BD.

I'd also bring Anamul in to the team but for grooming purposes only. I wouldn't throw him in to the national team matches yet, still seems he's not quite ready yet.

And I agree with Naeem. I'd rather have Mominul in the squad than Naeem. We already know what Naeem has to offer for the team. Since Mominul's been 1 of our best A team batsmen, why not give him a go and see what he has to offer?

Also agree with Abul. He seems like a good prospect but clearly has a ways to go before he's ready to perform in the national team. Let him play Academy/A team matches and in the mean time bring Nazmul in.

Very funny... Bring him in the team for grooming?? I thought you need to groom a player before bringing him in the team..

Was Mominul's performance something outstanding type?? It was average performance and against the top teams he will perform bellow average.. So he doesn't look any better than Nayeem type players... Why to bring him in then??

Also agree with Abul. He seems like a good prospect but clearly has a ways to go before he's ready to perform in the national team. Let him play Academy/A team matches and in the mean time bring Nazmul in.

How is Abul different than Shahadat? If those can be considered promising then what's the fault with Shahadat? He has pace and aggression too. Additionally Abul is extremely lazy for his age. How does he look promising I don't understand, of Shahadat wasn't promising!!

We people are too much into bring in and drop him attitude. We shouldn't even talk about this unless the guy is outstanding with his performances. It's always better to continue with the current lot until we have that outstanding one. Chopping and changing will only make us more unstable..IMO

Very funny? What's very funny to you about my suggestion of bringing him in. Seriously this is the last time I'm ever responding to you. Why do you feel the need to always bring people down to prove your point? You've done it to me and to others and it's really uncalled for and immature.

I never begged you to respond to me. if you make a comment in a public forum, have the nerve to get responses. It's really funny... When you say he isn't ready yet and then suggest that he should be brought in the team...I would only say that about a guy, if he was my Bhatija...

And you bring a person in the team and you won't throw him in the match...hahaha .. isn't it funny?? We bring in players in the team for what?? :)

shahadat was talented and did have potential, but he's lost it a bit, no longer bowls at that pace, at least not very often. abul is still early in his development, we can save him, i think shahadat is a bit far gone but you never know as he is still young.

This is just annoying. If Mominul or Anamul dont get into the national team then who else are our prospects that we can look onto? No one by the looks of it. Anamul hasnt been performing now but i can almost guarantee that he will score a hundred to 'get out of form'. Mominul has been consistent for the A team. Anamul and Mominul are probably the only 2 batsmen that we can look towards for the national team. Without them there is absolutely no one...

Ss, tasamul, sabbir, shuvagata, asif, farhad hossain. There are other prospects, they surely aren't as talented as anamul and mominul, it's not a question of them being a prospect for national call up it's whether they are ready or not, a not so good A team series surely puts doubts in people's minds.

Let's not quickly jump into conclusions, remember, Cricket is a process, not an event or two. Many qualified English/Australian players do not make it to the national team until in their mid twenties, so let these guys keep developing, let them play more quality oppositions, let's give them the best preparation for international cricket, so that they are ready to step up their game to the next level.

they will all vanish like last nights lassagne. Ill put my finger on SS and give an outside chance to S. Hom or Asif to break into the national team.

LOL so many options to choose from.

.

Bringing in an young and upcoming player into the FULL squad and NOT playing him isnt a new concept! It facilitates such player -who has been identified as special talent- to mingle with senior professional players and staff members i.e the Headcoach/Specialist coaches and have access to top flight training. Grooming -in THIS sense. Hope it makes a little more sense now.

Of course, only a genuine prospect should/could be introduced or groomed in the full national squad. Most will agree that Anamul (even Mominul) is a real prospect for a full cap. :)
