This should go on a FAQ. There's a few threads on it. Do a search. The rules stipulate that you have to be 19 on or above a cutoff date PRIOR to the WC.

^and associate teams get a 1 year bonus on top of that stipulation to even the field a bit more. so for the 6 minnow teams its really a U-20 team.

SL's batting looks very weak. They scored 158 runs chasing 192 against India and only 188 runs against Irish bowling attack. Our bowling performance has been good so far. I expect our bowlers to restrict them as tightly as possible.

I say, if we win the toss, bat first. Score around 230-240 and then make them work hard to pass the target. As our batting is vulnerable too, we better NOT bat last.

thats right. on paper SL have one of the worst batting, but one of the BEST in bowling attack so if we bat first, score 230+...and if we bowl first, don't let them cross 150.

Bangladesh captain Anamul Haque, whose side will meet Sri Lanka at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Saturday, said his side will be aiming for consistency. “The objective is to settle down quickly. I am putting emphasis on focus as many of our boys haven’t toured that much and I have seen that some may actually get overawed by the experience. We are also looking for consistency which is still not there in our performance. We have been making the odd contribution but not doing it as a group on a regular basis.

“I am sure everyone has set personal goals but we all have the common desire of seeing ourselves in the final,” Anamul said.

From daily star :
U-19s start campaign with SL test
Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Under-19s launch their campaign in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup today when they face off with Sri Lanka Under-19s at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

They will seek to avenge their Asia Cup defeat against their Sri Lankan counterparts when they meet in one of the four opening day fixtures of the 16-team biennial competition.

Bangladesh had a disappointing performance in the Asia Cup in Malaysia where they were eliminated by Afghanistan and Sri Lanka during the group stage, the consequence of the failure being major changes made by the board in the aftermath. New captain Anamul Haque and head coach Sarwar Imran have pointed out that it was not a full strength team which played in the Asia Cup and were optimistic of a good performance in the World Cup after the return of some key players who had missed the Asia Cup due to injuries.

And the encouraging fact is that the Bangladesh team have had enough opportunities to acclimatise to the condition as they reached Australia early to play two unofficial practice matches against the West Indies Under-19s and Papua New Guinea (PNG) Under-19s, besides the two official practice matches against their Scottish and South African counterparts.

Anamul's side lost against West Indies and South Africa in the warm-ups, in which their batting appeared to be unsatisfactory, though they won against PNG and Scotland and their loss against group rivals South Africa was a close affair.

Captain Anamul Haque said his side will be aiming for consistency.

“The objective is to settle down quickly. I am putting emphasis on focus as many of our boys haven't toured that much and I have seen that some may actually get overawed by the experience. We are also looking for consistency which is still not there in our performance. We have been making the odd contribution but not doing it as a group on a regular basis.

“I am sure everyone has set personal goals but we all have the common desire of seeing ourselves in the final,” Anamul said.

The Bangladesh captain and coach expressed their desire prior to departure to play in the Super League and for that they have to win at least two group games.

Bangladesh have been placed in Group D along with Sri Lanka, South Africa and Namibia.

The two top sides from each group will qualify for the Super League stage and the two bottom-placed sides from each group will compete in the Plate Championship. The Plate final will be staged on August 24 in Brisbane while the Super League final will take place at the Tony Ireland Stadium on August 26.

Bangladesh's second group match against South Africa will be held tomorrow and the third and final group encounter against Namibia will take place on August 16

Looking at his recent stats , he hasnt done anything special barring that 6 wicket haul against the Irish. He is an offie and I think our boys are more than capable to milk him for atleast 45 runs in his ten over spell , considering India scored 60 runs of his spell.

August 10, 2012, 05:59 PM
If BD are to reach the QFs then this match is a must-win. SA will bring their A game tomorrow and they are definite semi-finalists (at least) in these conditions and we don't stand a chance against them. On the other hand, our pace attack can exploit the relatively weak SL batting line-up on these pitches, and if our batsmen apply themselves better than they have done so far we should be able to outbat the Lankans. However, given the recent performances and the lack of mental fortitude demonstrated by this bunch I won't be surprised at all if it's another first-round exit for us.

Looks like idiocy pervades all levels of Bangladesh cricket.

I really don't like the approach of Bangladesh Under-19 management, over the past 10 years. They have always tried only to win. Thus, they have always overloaded their teams with spinners. Under-19 is an opportunity for young cricketers to show their potential, and for national teams to scout for future talent. We have a ton of spinners in the national team. What we don't have is pacers. Even if a pacer does not look like they will be the spearhead of the national pace attack in two years' time, it definitely is valuable letting them play as many games as possible in the Under-19 tournaments, and it will least give them the best possible chance to shine as a NCL pacer in near future. Not everyone needs to be a superstar.

The spinners only do ok at this level because other countries have not played against decent spinners too much. Once they do, they will smash these spinners in five years' time even if they make it to our A-teams etc. With pacers on the other hand, we need as many as possible in the national circuit.

Once again, under 19 level is for nurturing talent, not specifically for finding superstars.

I disagree...at every level you want to win. Warm ups, and practice matches and dead rubbers are the only places to experiment with lineups. U-19 teams want to win the Cup, they're not just a feeder for the national team. However, individual players should more content on gaining as an individual rather than say winning series here and there.
