SA women touch down
Sports Reporter

The South Africa women's cricket team arrived in Dhaka yesterday to play three one-day internationals and as many T20 internationals against their Bangladesh counterparts.

All the matches will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur where cricket returns for the first time since the planting of the new grass.

South Africa will play the matches as part of their preparation for the ICC Women's World Twenty20 to be held in Sri Lanka in September-October.

The one-day matches will be held on September 6, 7 and 9 and the T20 matches are scheduled for September 11, 12 and 14.

Bangladesh women's team captain Salma Khatun already expressed her optimism about a good showing against South Africa as she said that her team is confident after the Ireland trip.

Finally!! This is how teams should travel. Wear clothes that's suppose to be comfortable specially when you are in the plane for so long, unlike men cricket players who have to be all tip top and tuck their shirt in and wear dress shoe. Who came up with that rule anyway.

What's in the pitch?

Nothing much I'd think.
Saffers are really weak in spin + jet lag + completely new conditions.

Our batting isn't strong, esp opening pair (as suggested by the team manager).

Bangladesh women stun South Africa
Thu, Sep 6th, 2012 3:47 pm BdST

Dhaka, Sep 6 (bdnews24.com) - Bangladesh women's cricket team defeated South Africa by two wickets in the first one-dayer on Thursday.

South Africa posted 75 all out in 34.5 overs after being put into bat. In reply, Bangladesh reached the target in 37.3 overs with 2 wickets in hand at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 76 for victory, the home team stumbled initially, losing Sharmin Akhter (0) and skipper Salma Khatun (2) within 8 runs.

Lata Mondol then bonded with Ayesha Akhtar (5) for the third wicket adding 20 runs, Rumana Ahmed (2) for the fourth wicket for 11 runs and Farzana Haque (5) for the fifth for 17 runs.

These small but vital partnerships advanced the team total towards the target. Although the dismissal of Lata (31) and Farzana with the team total on 56 produced panic for Bangladesh.

Even more alarming situation arose when Lujhat Tania (3) was sent back quickly.

Ritu Moni (12 not out) then combined with debutant Tazia Akhter (1) for a 12-run eighth-wicket partnership that guided the team home.

Although Tazia was dismissed when Bangladesh were on 72, Ritu ensured there no more hiccups.

Sunette Loubser returned with figures of 3 for 32 for South Africa.

Earlier, South Africa got off a bumpy start losing 3 wickets on 5 runs. Marizanne Kapp (11) and skipper Mignon du Preez (24) made a 37 run fourth wicket partnership to attempt and steady the rocking ship.

Marizanne's dismissal with the total on 42 quickly saw Yolandi Westhuizen (3) and Preez returning to add to the anxiety.

Shabnim Ismail (9) and Sune Luus (15 not out) added 21 for the seventh wicket partnership. After Shabnim was sent back on 69, South Africa lost their last 3 wickets within 6 runs; resulting in the team's dismissal with 92 balls to spare.

Khadija Tul Kubra (3 for 8 in eight overs) and Rumana Ahmed (3 for 10) stood out among Bangladesh bowlers.

Both teams meet again for the second match on Friday at the same venue. The third and final ODI is on Sunday.

Following the one-dayers, there are two T20 internationals on Sept 11 and 12 in Dhaka.

Dhaka, Sep 7 (bdnews24.com) - South Africa levelled the three-match ODI series against the Bangladesh women's cricket team with a four-wicket win on Friday.
Chasing a modest 180-run target, the Proteas reached home with four balls to spare at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Bangladesh won the first match on Thursday by two wickets.
The tourists rode on their lower-order led by Dane van Niekerk (45 not out off 64 balls). She struck three fours and a six during her stay at the crease.
Marizanne Kapp (39) and Shabnim Ismail (24 not out) gave Niekerk good support.
Alison Hodgkinson hit a patient 33 off 64 balls after the South Africans slumped to 33 for 4 after just eight overs.
Jahanara Alam was the most successful Bangladesh bowler with 3-35. Salma Khatun took 2-25 and Khadija Tul Kubra one wicket for 33 runs.
Just like the previous game, Bangladesh made another shaky start to their innings as they lost three wickets inside the first 15 overs.
But Lata Mondol (52) and Farzana Haque (55) steadied the ship with a 70-run fourth-wicket stand.
Player of the match Niekerk bagged 2-30, Sunette Loubser 2-26 and Shabnim Ismail 1-35.
The third and final ODI is on Sunday.
Following the one-dayers, both teams will switch their attention to two T20 internationals on Sept 11 and 12 in Dhaka.

Our girls showed the exact characteristics shown by the boys before.
Win the first match, come agonizingly close of winning the 2nd one but then snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and then collapse on the third one.
All to familiar for the fans.

But nonetheless, this was some extra ordinary display by the girls.
No one would have thought that they could do this against the mighty Saffers.
Very well played girls.

Now go win a T20.

BD women was 12/1 in 4.5 overs. Due to rain, according to D/L method, their target was set to 73 in 13 overs.

This rain actually helped us where we just needed 57 runs off 46 balls. we might have struggled to achieve 106 runs in 20 overs :)

Anyway, Congrats to BD women team for winning the 1st T20 match and leading the series 1-0 ! :flag::flag::flag:

I'm so proud of this team :D They've played very well so far, even though we have a long way to go. Sometimes I get a bit too hopeful & think we'll bring the cup home before the men do :p Anyway congrats to the ladies, now let's try & win the next match. Salma Khatun is freakin amazing! :D

They might Antora (Insha Allah)! You never know ;)

Women team is realy playing good. They lost O D I 2-1 now 1-0 ahead in T20 series is good performance. Our men team can not perform that good vs S A men team.

Congrats girls.

our women team just got ODI status and its their 3rd T20 match whereas for men team, we got ODI status in 86 and Test status in 2000 but still our men's team get beaten by test country's club team.

Men team better pull their socks up and justify all the investments and efforts done by board and loves of fans !

However, saw the news clip. Really glad to see people coming, making noises and supporting the girls. This will give them a lot of confidence and urge to perform.

We actually didn't officially have ODI status until after the ICC trophy win, but yeah, we did start playing ODIs from the 80's. Anyways, jara Afghanistan ke trophy diye ashe tader kotha bole ei thread noshto kore kono labh nai.

A bit surprised (pleasantly of course) by how fast our batswomen scored in this game, given that batting is still our major concern.
