Shakib, Tamim wont be retained?

Rifat H
January 30, 2013, 11:54 PM
^ Shakib was retained by KKR but pune released Tamim. So no Tamim in 2013 IPL . Nasir, Mushfiq and even Gazi deserve to be in that list .

January 31, 2013, 12:05 AM
I am in a way glad that they arent.. And it aint no grapes are sour.. They might as well just play domestic or PSL than being benched at IPL. Even Shakib gets few matches,, Mushfique and Gazi wont get anything. Nasir didnt get a single match at SLPL... so for our players, yeah they are losing out the money but other than that,, if we can't get to see them play what's the point?

It's disappointing considering even a cricketer from Ireland is in the list. If our players had any pride then they would take it as extra motivation to work harder and improve their skills so that at ICC events we can really show we are not as bad as we used to be. 2014 WC would be a good time to make a statement with the talent that we have.

Its got nothing to do with the skills of our player. In fact i bet IPL clubs would welcome Bangladeshi participation to boost support. Our big brother just doesnt want any tournament to take a slight shine of theirs. So we have to face the consequences!

Anyway no harm for us. Not much our guys can learn by warming the bench. In fact its a waste for Shakib to play for KKR as well. Better for him to sort out his own game instead of wasting time there. At the moment he is having a torrid time with bat and ball.

al Furqaan
January 31, 2013, 02:48 AM
Probably a good thing. If our players get their BPL money...its more than they would ever earn in IPL. Players don't get paid for warming the bench. So Nasir probably didn't get any money from SLPL if he didn't play any matches.

Our guys should just focus on NCL and BCL, to be honest.

^NCL and BCL should focus on generating competitive and quality cricket worthy of being called FC and List A first :)

I'm all for our guys and if possible, teams playing FC and List A in India, Sri Lanka and other places where their lives won't be in mortal danger.

When a player is in the squad, he gets the money whether he is there in playing XI or sitting on the bench. That is the way contracts work for all these leagues (IPL, BPL, SLPL, BBL) or any other

Presently I don't think many IPL teams would be buying many players as all teams have their hands full. So it is good no player is there. As some pointed out he can contribute to the domestic circuit, as he will be getting a fair share of money from BPL. Nothing to be worried about

As a poster above said "What is IPL"

Bid deal! we have a full series with Zimbabwe anyway and hopefully we will raise it to 3 test matches because of our lack of International Cricket. IPL is what ruins Indian Cricket and wastes too much time, this is another blessing in disguise for us.

Yeah just checked that it clashes with our tour to Zimbabwe but I hope this Kamal guy for once does something for Bangladesh Cricket and raise our Zimbabwe matches - 3 Tests 3/5 ODIs and 3 T20s.

IPL snub blessing in disguise, Pakistani players not coming blessing in disguise, PSL not inviting/BCB not giving NOC will be future blessing in disguise. I beginning to wonder what we will do with all the surplus of blessings we are getting from our neighbors. Can we trade it for some commodity like respect and good reputation?

I know, Shakib is eoungh to grab most of BD attention towards IPL. I understand their hands are full and most Indians franchises dont feel much attraction over Bangladeshi performers. But imo atleast SRK's Calcutta could've one more Bangla input (maybe just for show) in their side to boost Bangladeshi viewer number to watch IPL. IPL doin a strategic mistake in business here by sidelining us.

What's so fuss about IPL? We have seen how did it harm India in the longer versions. Sehwag is now out of their team and Gambhir is awaiting the same fate. We should pay attention to longer versions instead of these circus shows.

The answer is obvious man common. If he refused for sake of argument then I don't care how talented he is, needs to be punished as country comes first not pointless IPL where he's not treated right and sits on bench more than half the time. He's already a rich man and earning from BPL and various sponsorships and contracts from board so no need for him to play in IPL.

Out of question. He is a player under contract with BCB. Unless BCB releases him he cannot play in any other competition while national team plays.

BTW Shakib plays best when he plays for the national team. He loves the feeling of playing for the national team. So this kinda question won't raise at all.

These Indians know that Bangladesh are becoming a force in Cricket and know we could actually challenge them finally in a series. Their bowling attack is much much weaker than West Indies and only have better batsman than us but if we can bat properly and as a unit from 1-11 then we can beat them in an ODI and/or Test series I can guarantee you that. Their old talented players have retired and are starting to retire, become slow and old, losing hair etc and their young guys especially those replacements are really nothing special. Its no secret that India are afraid of our Cricket team now. Like I said before, this is a blessing in disguise and will allow our players to focus more on first class and A games and their Cricket will just go the dustbin.

And to think that IPL increases players ability, wrong!! Pakistan isnt playing in IPL or have their own T20 league but due to their very strong domestic infrastruure, they are still one of the best teams. West Indies do have T20 league but it isnt as flashy as Indian ones.. So the question becomes, other generating money for the teams, BCCI and players.. did it actually do any good for the quality of the game or the national teams? I seriously doubt it..

Yeah, Ravindo Ashwin getting 2.00 million dollars is a good thing but he is by no means a better player than Grayemm Swann or Syed Ajmal or even Shohag Gazi for that matter.. So, seriously, BD players not being in IPL hurts our players finances ( BTW they do get more money than any other star sportsmen in the country) but it matters less on BD team as a whole.. my 2 cents

You serious? I enjoy watching Big Bash more than IPL. I enjoyed IPL from 2007-2008. Don't enjoy much after 2009. Only watch the KKR matches because Shakib plays. Besides, Not taking a single Bangladeshi in the auction means. Less viewers from BD. And there's SLPL coming after IPL. Plenty of BD players will be selected by most franchises. Be on the lookout for that.

2 tests, 3 odi and 1 T20 will take a month at least, and I'm sure no IPL team would be eagerly waiting for the Tigers to join them in the later stage of the tournament to make some earth shattering difference.

I think the IPL is great. Kevin deserves to be on the list, but our guys haven't really done anything great in this format yet. Hey, we still have Shakib and Tamim and who knows, maybe someone like Nasir will sign a last minute deal even if he ends up warming the bench for the season.

Players get chosen not really for their cricketing ability but more for their marketability. Who will draw in more crowds? Unfortunately, even if many of the Bangladeshi players maybe far better than many of the foreign recruits in the IPL, the natives really do not know much about our players.

Have you not seen the surprise (and disbelief) with which so many Indians react with when one tells them Shakib is a #1 world all-rounder and a match winner or Tamim is a world class batsman in his own right, not to even speak of our bushel full of mesmerizing SLAs and other spinners. And the franchise owners themselves are a microcosm of the native perceptions. It's Nasir who?

They would, unfortunately, rather see (or hire) a Tom, Dick, and Hariharan over a Tamim, Dickens, or Hasan.

We are not sexy. Not much of a marketing draw. Yet.

This might be bit unpopular idea, but except England-NZ series FTP showing open window for IPL to all other nationals. What if BCB decides to postpone this bilataral series after understanding with Zimbabwe Cricket to move it to June or afterwards and let our stars to perform in India, like Srilanka & WIndies did. Clearly we got a huge gap in internatinal calandar to adjust between end of March after Lankan series & October NZ series, IMO previous BCB head missed the trick here, kept too much busy giving preference to tour Pakistan.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will take a call on Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal's participation in the Indian Premier League after discussion with the team management as the tournament clashes with Bangladesh's tour to Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe tour commences on April 13 and ends on May 12, while the IPL is scheduled between April 3 and May 26.

Shakib and Tamim, who play for Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors respectively, will have two windows before and after the Zimbabwe tour during which they can play four matches for their franchise. However, the players need a No Objection Certificate from the board to participate in the IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders, the franchise that Shakib represents in the IPL, remain hopeful that the player will be available for the sixth season.
"It is slightly unclear at the moment. We will have to wait and see," Venky Mysore, the Knight Riders' chief executive said.

However, he pointed out that franchises were always prepared for such scenarios. When the player signs the contract, the NOC clearly mentions that the player's availability is subject to the ICC's Future Tours Programme or any last-minute tours arranged by their country's board.

Mysore also ruled out the option of KKR seeking a replacement for Shakib in case he missed out due to the Zimbabwe tour or if he failed to recover from his shin injury.
Pune Warriors, Tamim's franchise, have also decided to monitor the situation before they make a final decision. "We are aware that he might miss a good part of the tournament. But, at the moment, we will have to just wait," a Warriors official said. The official did not rule out the team seeking a replacement for Tamim.

Even if they can't make it to Zim series due to injury then they should NOT be given NOC to play in IPL too.

Condition should be given to Tamim and Shakib that, if they want to play in IPL, they have to play against Zim series too. After the Zim series, they can play remaining matches in IPL.
